Thanks for the video!! The info about removing the plastic anti-theft shield was helpful to me. Also, the info about the plastic tabs that hold the rods in place was helpful. I took the assembly out and replaced the actuator on my bench.
Thank you for video. I did this with my Dad. He's handy I did alot of light holding. Make sure you get the correct actuator. There is a left and right one. The mechanic probably keeps a pair. I told the honda dealership what door and still got the wrong one. On the part is stamped S6A-L and S6A-R check before you leave cause thats not the part number and there is no L or R in the part number. If you take it apart find you have the wrong one you can't shut the door to use your car and it stinks to put back together broken. Its a finicky job. All the plastics parts feel very breakable. But you can do it
Great video… our rear door doesn’t lock or open…and the horn doesn’t work too…just replacing the actuator, fixes both problems and the horn?…and are u in the Los Angeles area…please..,
I'm having a issue with my 08 Pilot. On my front driver side door lock, my key goes in no problem even turns left and right but doesn't unlock the door. When turning the key it has no tension as if I was turning it in the air. It's the only Key entry on the car. I've had to have someone come out and open it for me 4 times already. I've had it a month and the key fob died, then I left a light on, then the battery died so each time I had to have someone come out and open it since I can't use the key itself. Any ideas what it could be? Works perfect with the fob. Only work I've done regarding the handle is replacing both clips that connect from the inside door handle (the circle on the handle that the clip connects to broke when I first tried to fix the opposite side of the rods clip) and the clip that fits into the locking mechanism that's on the actuator that locks the rod in place. Was broken when I bought it and I wasn't notified that the previous owners rigged it with a wire instead of just replacing the clips.
Hi Emmanuel, I'll be honest I cannot remember how that second rod came off. This video was 4 years ago. Im sorry but I can't tell you as I just don't remember. I suspect that it's held on the same way as the others.
be sure you can unfreeze the three screws holding it all in place without stripping them before bothering to take the door panels off. lessoned learned. had to put back together unfixed
If the powe door lock doesn't work with key fob AND from the power door lock button on the driver's door. Then its possible the actuator has failed. If it works with the button on the driver's door and not with the key fob. The its not the actuator.
So right now I can’t open the door from the inside so I have to open the window and open from the outside, I’ve noticed the key fob remote doesn’t unlock, manually from outside it unlocks, where should I start? Please help 😢
Go see your automotive professional. Diagnostics need to be done. It does sound like you have two issues happening. The lock actuator and the inside lock rod system is faulty.
I have a question i have a 04 pilot I to open the driver side with remote and did not open and i tried with the key did not open. Every time i push the botton makes noise.
I would suspect that is more than the actuator. The door panal will have to be removed. The inside parts will need to be I inspected to locate the issue at hand.. there a few rods and plastic clips that hold those rods in place. If they break that can also cause what you are experiencing.
Hey Steve great video I’m having trouble with my 2008 Honda Pilot power locks the problem is when I touch the key fob twice for all the doors to open it locks immediately it also happens when I touch the switch driver or passenger now when I pulled on the plunger manually from the front passenger side the doors all lock but I can pull the plunger on driver and the two rear passenger and they stay unlocked where should I start my troubleshooting repair it’s driving me nuts nobody seems to ever have had this problem or a fix can you help brother thanks
I'll be honest.. what u are describing is extremely rare. I suspect u have a body control problem. A scan tool with factory software capabilities might be needed to see what signals are happening. You also might be having more than one malfunction that compounds the issue. This could also be a reprogramming issue. At this point I'd send it to the dealer for diagnostics.
Thanks Steve for sharing the video. I am struggling with disconnecting the rod at the top of the mechanism that goes to the outer door handle. The end of rod has a slight notch around it and there is a plastic ring holding it in place. I have tried pulling it very hard after I moved the securing tab out of the way but it's not coming out. Any tips there will be greatly appreciated.
The sun... if you get it warm it will make it easier. Or try some WD-40 or similar (not too much) Sometimes its easier to disconnect the other end of the rod too.
What can I do if the door lock actuator got damaged with the door closed? I have that problem with my Honda Pilot and the door does not open its stuck.
that shouldn't be the actuator, the motor( actuator) only moves the lock from lock to unlock. if you cant manually unlock the door, and then open the door from the outside or the inside, then you have a latch issue. the door panel will have to be removed. Most likely by damaging it. Then the latching will have to be operated from inside the door. in your case it's very rare to not being able to open the door from both the inside AND the outside handles. I highly recommend the dealer at this point.
You jump around to much explaining the process. Start from the beginning where you actually take it off and replace the part, and then put back the door. You confused me!!
Hi, yes I've had a few ppl say the same thing on a couple of my videos. Only thing I can say is I'm a Automotive Technician first. That's how I make my money. The videos isn't even a hobby. The problem I have is time. I sell my time and skill. Ppl don't want to pay me for filming their car. They want me to spend as little time possible fixing their cars. I apologize you got confused in my video. If you have any questions I'll try my best to answer them here.
Doesn't seem too tricky, how much do mechanics usually charge to replace these? And is the back seat doors any different/harder? Thanks for all the info!
The left actuator costs about $90 the Right costs $115 (for reasons???) Thats Honda parts I'm in Ontario Canada dollars. I find if you take the cost of the part and add it to double the price of the part thats about your bill pay some tax on that. It would not surprise me if the bill was around $300 for a door. Kind of stinks but i imagine that a Mechanic like the one in this video could have her done in an hour or less and be confident about the job so might be worth it you don't have the time.
Thanks for the video!!

Those are two separate issued.
I'm located in Tacoma, WA.

Front or rear door?
Could you please explain how you freed the second rod?
Hi Emmanuel,
I'll be honest I cannot remember how that second rod came off. This video was 4 years ago. Im sorry but I can't tell you as I just don't remember. I suspect that it's held on the same way as the others.

I have had that happen. But yes if you are in the rest belt of the country or have vehicle that was in the rust belt I'm sure that can happen.
if you were using a #2 phillips screwdriver instead of a JIS crosspoint screwdriver, strippage is very likely to occur.
My door FOB stopped working on the back passenger door but it will open all the other doors. Is this an actuator problem?

I cant answer for other mechanics. I belive I charge 1.2 hours. The front and rear doors are different. But not so much that its need to noted.

Can’t get the 3 gold screws off
Might need a "impact" driver set. A special driver that u hit with a hammer.

Thanks Steve the only problem is your left out taking out the door handle
