Honda CRV : Rear Door Lock Actuators / Latches
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- In this video I bring you along as I have a go with some Honda CRV door latches. The reason we are replacing them is because they are really loud when they lock and unlock. However they still work. At any rate the customer wants new ones so here we go. -Enjoy!

Hats off to Jason, the world’s most eligible bachelor. Without him doing the tires and brakes and other stuff, we wouldn’t get very many diagnostic (my fav) videos from Eric. I am a software engineer and I find the logic you use to fix cars endlessly fascinating. I am addicted.
To be truthful Eric’s diags along with tech. education helped me start my own garage. I learn more from UA-cam techs than school ever taught me. Messed up huh? Lol
Great way of looking at it, and don't forget Josh doing his thing over in the other part of the shop so Eric has time for this :)
Better than any detective show I reckon.
Engineers are a joke. They only know how to make the job 10 times harder and take 10 extra steps that are unnecessary. Experience and common sense will beat any engineer every time and every engineer is always "shocked" when they find out that the book they learned from was wrong .. this isn't a personal attack but I work around about 5 software engineers and about 15 engineers so let's just say I've had plenty experience with engineers.
@@every-istand-ophobe6320 And them with you.. pretty sure they love working with you...
Every tool has a hammer side. Except screwdrivers. That's a pry bar. 😆 classic Eric O. Love it
Except they do.
Only bent screwdrivers are pry bars. Straight ones are chisels. :-P
Any tool’s a hammer if you use it wrong enough.
I have certainly used screwdriver handles as hammers before!
Eric O - "every tool's a hammer"
Also Eric O - "don't drop my torque wrench"
If anything were to break on my car and I found an Eric O video that covered it, I would feel like I won the lotto. Some lucky bastard is going to love this one. Thanks for doing what you do!
About to do actuators on my daughter's 09. Excellent timing mr O!
That is how I discovered this channel. Did a search on here for a P0 code and one of his videos popped up. Been a subscriber ever since.
. . . I would feel like I won the lotto-until Eric O. found my teenager’s weed stash in the back door pocket. Oh, well-better him than Trooper Friendly’s canine pal, Sniffty.
Looks like two of us love this one for its repair guidance.
I had a grand caravan where the window wouldn't go down, and various other issues with the drivers door. Broken wiring between the body and the door. Down to the exact color wire that was broken in his video! Multiple times I have been working on a car, and something jogs my memory about a SMA video. Quick search, and bam, he has done it before me!
When the screwdriver was too big and you said "If I had a nickel every time I've NEVER heard that..." Hilarious.
My dream…AVE and Eric O fix a car together.
“Downtown Charlie Brown” hahahaha.
Love it
Down here in Indiana we call that left handed kool cigarettes or liberal cigarettes
SMA gets the work and we get a video because the customer can't do anything but smoke that crap.
@@harrylister804 those darn kids smoking that devils lettuce
You talked about when you son was little. I had my 5 year old granddaughter out in the boat yesterday and was letting her steer. After a few minutes she started asking what everything was and what it did. When we got to the throttle, her eyes light up when I explained what it did. We were going along a few more minutes, when all of a sudden, the boat took off like a rocket, my wife fell off her seat and my granddaughter is all smiles and laughing. She loves going fast.
When putting a screw back into plastic or wood, I always turn it backwards until I feel it drop down into the pre-existing threads. I haven’t had a problem with the screw trying to cut new threads since I started doing that 30 years ago. Well, as long as I was putting the same (right) screw back in. Lol.
A young mans first tool box is a rite of passage. Got mine wnen I was 12 and was expected to know how to use and care for the tools.
Great video Eric!!!
I change door lock actuators often
Never seen anyone take the time to show in as much detail as you just did.
This has got to be one of the best channels on UA-cam. A true real-world mechanic. (His superhero tagline would be "well there's your problem lady")
Eric and Mrs. O had a groovy time that night...💨👍
Mr O ramps the whole entertainment value up a notch this time around.
watching Braves baseball pre game and get a sma notification - sma wins every single time
My son's Honda CR-V (2007) had the same issue, and I was able to change the back door actuators and was able to fake my way through the front passenger one as well, all thanks to the detail in this video. Nice walkthrough and entertaining commentary.
Nice!! A new SMA video to watch while hunkered down for the hurricane!
I'm Ridin with Henri
Its only a CAT 1. Here in Louisiana we had 6 of them last year
Only a Tropcial Storm now here in New England.
Thank you! My 20-year-old daughter just used your video to fix her noisy locks. The actuator died years ago when it was still my husband's car. No more embarrassing loud locks!
It was Heart , Blues Traveler, then you whistled Hello my baby by Tin Pan Alley
This is car repair with a touch of music trivia. NICE.
And can't forget "No One Knows" by Queens of the Stone Age.
That wasn't Tin Pan Alley. Everyone knows "Hello My Baby" was done by that bullfrog in the Merry Melodies cartoon. Sheesh!
Hey there viewers and welcome back to the self made auto channel 😀.
Sounds like you actually said it this time.
I built a toolbox almost exactly like that when I was 14 or 15 when I began helping my dad in construction during the summers. I had it for many years and gave it to my best friend when I moved from my first house. That brought back memories good and bad.
Yes, and the stickers from a bygone era..... Classic.
Had to work through the night. Waking up at 2PM my time now, having a cup of tasty coffee and watching a new SMA Video.
That makes all the bad stuff from last night worth it.
Excellent training video, good lighting, good camera access/angle, good sound quality and detailed teaching commentary, combined with both wit and humour. Thank you. ******
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff! Helped me fix something that drove my parents nuts for two years in about an hour. Can’t thank you enough!
Loved watching you put all the piddly crap back together without testing it. Been there, never turned out right, had to go tweak something.
Missed the little white donger tho. gonna be a comeback..
Door Lock Actuators can be a mother lover to fix or replace. Glad the master is working on the customers car.
That's nice of you to call Eric a "master". Actually he is a good DIYer, NOT an ASE certified mechanic. He actually says this in one of his earlier videos.
@@dancahill9122 I call him a master, because almost shops and dealerships can't find a vehicles problem and sends it to Eric to fix.
Eric is in the groove today!
I just posted above about that. You don’t have to use drugs to enjoy life people!! I’m the same way as Eric. It doesn’t hurt to be in a good mood and joke around. Life’s to short to be miserable my friends!
South main auto videos have saved me thousands of dollars my first one was timeing belt/ water pump on a Honda pilot
No years old tool box would be complete without an Isky Racing Cams sticker ! Back in the day, one of the best available.
Ed Iskendarian-The Camfather.
@Chuck Kirchner Crane Cams in my day.
Where's the "Thrush" and STP stickers??
Comp Cams and Isky are the top brands from what I know of. Back in the day, many of the other brands wouldn't live long or destroy cam hardware.
As always Mr. O we appreciate, or at least I do, not wasting time in the video with looking up factory torque specs and tightening all screws and bolts down to stated specs. And much like you, any repairs I do, I always look up and torque down to specs when nobody is watching.
'Back when i liked cars before the general public ruined it' there was never a more true statement!
Thanks for making this job look easy. Your running commentary is the icing on the cake. Thanks also to Jason your trusty sidekick in this madness.
Great video Eric. The humor in this video is awesome, and you’ve came a long way on UA-cam. Congratulations man, you’re the best.
True and honest about the oem parts and the job to get her done, your the man bro salute to a true mechanic who deserve she best and much blessings to you and your family
Good day a new SMA and new pine hollow.
So I just put in New wheel bearings and struts in my 07 dodge caliber from watching your shows. Thanks you for the education. 🙂
'Downtown Charlie Brown'. 🤣🤣🤣 Eric is too funny. You never know what will happen in his videos, which is why I like this channel
Hey man, great video. My biggest issues were the removal and then replacing of the unit around the window track. Your advice to slide it in from the bottom was spot on, cause there really a'int room to turn and remove/install. I was beating my head on that one for a while, then I found this video. Also the metal rod detach with the retaining clip was tough. Anyway, I conquered the beast, and for a 2008 with 224K, saving the money was totally worth it! Thank you and stay busy!
Hi Eric, Thank you for sharing your toolbox. I made a wooden toolbox in 4h. Still have it to this day
I always appreciate how you make sure that the screws and bolts are torqued to factory spec once you are done showing us how the job is done.
Eric O.: "It's inch-pounds for these door fasteners, NOT foot-pounds, you wackjobs!"
How to make the job less stressful ,leave your weed for your mechanic .....good job Eric O and the lovely Mrs O .
That was great - thanks Mr O. And we got to see Mrs O too!
You're a comic ,real entertainment ,was chuckling away at every quip you made 🤗🤗
The Phillips vs JIS screwdriver bit really hit home for me. My RC airplanes have little screws everywhere... and they are "Phillips" BUT they are not a #1 Phillips or a #2 Phillips. They are like a #1.25-#1.5 Phillips. I always chalked it up to crappy chinese quality control; until I discovered a "#1 JIS" was the correct size! No more stripped little tiny screws! That is the ONLY time I've ever needed to differentiate between Phillips and JIS. LOL Thanks Eric O!
1500 thumbs up in the first hour....incredible, also a mechanic that knows what JIS screws are, even more incredible. Keep up the good work Eric. The best to you and yours!
I do appreciate the extend you go to show us how it's done.
The sma trifecta:
Door fingernails✔️
Door grass✔️
Door mold✔️
Dont forget the bad of oregano!! Oh, wait, that would be a what... a quadfecta?!!!!
I am glad that I'm the only one at home while I'm watching this video. The Tommy Boy reference had me laughing FAR TOO LOUDLY!!! Thanks Eric!
The final moves the the door handle install...your are the magic man😉👍🏻
"You don't grunt, ya ain't gonna git it." Truer words were never spoken.
I love the rust protection of a Toyota and Honda, great cars. Just ordered my pull over hoodie!!!
Thank you for the video. My 2008 Crv has 219,000 miles and I have to replace the rear door lock. The last set has lasted since I bought it with 96,000 miles, 9 years ago (Dealer replaced for free).
Eric, When you're gone young mechanics will pray to your toolbox for strength and courage.
Eric was on point today! I usually get a chuckle or two (or three, or four......) from each of his videos, but he was on a roll today. Good stuff.
Dovetail joint construction on your tool box...nice!
My wife's CRV has the same problem on one rear door. It still works and I just tell her to live with the noise. If it still works, I ain't fixing it. However, I have saved this video in case another door starts adding to the noise. Thanks, Eric. Great tutorial that gives me confidence I can do it myself if the time comes.
You can practice on your wifes car.
Dang Eric! Was on a job and almost missed your new vidya! Watching it now my friend! Did a brake job on a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer today. It was crazy how stuck those rotors were for a 2017! Got out the ole 6lb mini-sledge. I’m a mobile man without the luxury of big nasty. Lol. Only big nasty I got is a sledge and upstate NY muscle. Haha thanks for another Spielberg! 😆
Hey, Mr. O. That kind of repair doesn't use your detective work like most other repairs, but it has its own kind of challenge. Thanks for taking care of the camera so as to let us see what you are doing. It is a big help. Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!
Screwdrivers - also known as chisels, punches, scrapers, pry bars, retrieval tools (if magnetized) drills for soft materials, panel removers, paint stirrers, awls, and many more uses.
As well as scribers, props, gouges, levers, and my favorite, throwing knives, especially into wallboard. A multi-tool, all in one!
One of the few tools that get names. At work, we had the heavy duty large one named "The Persuader".
Caution on screwdriver package: "Misusing tool voids warranty. Not be used as any of the above except as a screwdriver. If you need the other tools, go back to your toolbox or go buy one, ya loser!" :)
Yeah and if you were my dad, hitch pins for the tractor. At least that was he used my brand new set of Craftsman "professional" screw drivers for when I was a teenager, haha.
occasional back scratcher
WERA SCREWDRIVERS ROCK!!!!!!! Lazer etched blades are the bomb for not stripping screws. Great choice Eric!!!
This is perfect. I gotta do it on my CRV. Thanks Eric!!
Remember and fasten the blue clip back in over the actuator rod😉
Any time!
I saw the flatulence extraction hose in the background. So nice of you to keep a toot free workplace.
Hey, nice dovetail work on that tool box! That's impressive craftsmanship! Funny thing is that it doesn't suprise me seeing how you go about cleaning up those rusty heaps people bring you before reassembling them! Attenton to detail and quality work are scarce attributes nowadays! 👍
It's a shame, but I find that the extra mile is often a lonely and desolate place.
I find it refreshing to see people like Eric (and Richard) out there with me ! ! !
You can't beat experience with fiddly jobs like this. Is it me or is Eric getting funnier ? Always a bonus when Mrs O appears no matter how briefly.
That's too big. If I had a nickle for every time I didn't hear that!! Nice one Eric :)
Eric O. is "efficiency in motion", "smooth as silk", both taking apart and putting back together. Been putting off working on a Dodge door because the talent may not be there. What did he say, "if I can do it.......????.." Well maybe. Thanks for sharing!
From A to Z and actuators in between SMA does it all.
I watched this with great interest... my daughter has a 2008 CR-V with the big 2.4. If this happens to hers I know I will get the lead on the job.
Nice job Eric love the tool box too cool stuff
Thank you sir this is going to be a lot easier on Monday when my part comes in to replace this myself instead of taking it to a dealership and pay them outrageous labor rates which I used to work at a dealership Chrysler Jeep and Dodge dealers for 20 years and thank you and have a wonderful weekend
"Donger" Eric's word for what us southerners call a "Dodad" LOL!
@@Loveitdownunder I like Dave Jones' (EEVBlog) description of bad solder joints:
"Dryer than a dead dingo's donger"
Anyone else here that always points back to Eric O when he tells you, you can do it? 😋
Greetings from Norway - great channel! 😍
Great video! I have the exact same model screwdriver but in a flat blade. I wish I had the whole set.
Who else smashes that thumbs up before they even watch the video? Thanks again Eric for another awesome video!
The Music Trivia was awesome!
Side note. Love your content. Thanks for showing us how it’s done. Glad your your here.
Love the original tool box tour! :)
My first project in Auto Shop was a valve job on my Buick Straight Eight. That toolbox is Way Cool.
Eric, this is exactly the video I needed for doing the non-working interior door handle of the same side door on my Honda Fit. I've checked the handle and the cable head is on so it must be the lock side that's bad and now I need to remove the lock and replace the cable and you've given me the the way I have to take the lock out with the tricks to doing this.
I did my 2013 Lexus a year ago. Hardest part was getting the door panel back on. 🤣 I struggled with that.
Hello Eric, thank for this video! I had previously tried removing those 3 screws that attach/hold the actuator to the door and gave up until I could get myself an impact driver. I came across your video today and heard you say that have to grunt as you push and turn on those screws and it worked like a charm. I am a new viewer and subscriber now. Thanks again!
Lol that random bag of weed at 4:20
There was no chemical confirmation, oregano❔❓
Eric O. said it was a nickel bag !
@@dennishayes65 My hearing is declining, probably weighed the contents off camera👌🌿
I must admit you are an excellent mechanic. I have not seen you throw a tool yet. I do it at least once on every project.
Nice to see the Og Tool Boss Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
A good tip when replacing door latch thingmabobs: after your done always manually push the latch closed and make sure your door handle works before closing the door lol. Would suck to close the door to then find out something went wrong and it’s stuck closed.
I should have read ur comment first. Forgot to attach the rod to the the assembly. :/
Napa sticker on the old toolbox. Still not a sponsor way back when.
Napa was NOT a sponsor before NOT being a sponsor was cool.
Thank you Mr.O for all that you do for us viewers. And Mrs. O your awesome aswell hun. Thanks for everything you do for us
Good kid gone Bad sticker on tool box 👍
You did an excellent job and no blood.
I remember when I was a kid and mom would tell me I was not to touch something. I would make a mental note of how the item was placed and touch it anyway when mom was not looking. I would put it back exactly how I found it. I still do that to this day when I repair something, It is very hard to tell if I took something apart and repaired it.
You naughty boy; you good mechanic.
I've seen your work !
Had to change the driver door lock actuator on my wife's old Dodge Journey. The only reason I was able to figure it out is because I work in an auto factory, and I spent just enough time on the door line to have a general idea of how the whole thing is put together. Great video!!
Hahahahaha! Just set that to the side...now we know how they put up with that noise for so long.
Wow, there’s a Willy’s Carburetor and Dyno Shop decal on your wooden tool box, they are just right up the road from me in Mt Carmel, IL!
Will never break again since it’s now been crystallized.
This is the funniest video so far. Just love the "just bought a F250 6.0" description----same kid comes by here a week later hitchhiking.
Lmao, I've been trying to remove that exact shaft from the plastic clip in my 96 Corolla (trying to fix central locking). It will just NOT come out, damn thing. You make it look so easy as well hahaha
You’re pushing it the wrong way
@@sweetwilliam49 Yeah probably, I've got to get back in there and try it again now that I've seen someone do it. Couldn't find a video of it last time, so I wasn't sure I was doing it correctly
@@sweetwilliam49 Push it anti-clockwise.
@@TheTimtam112 been a while but I think the clip snaps down on the rod. I believe you have to push it up. Look for the open end of the clip push it in the opposite direction
Heart,of course !!! Ann and Nancy wilson what talent !!!
If you have a 6.0 and it's bullet proof that only means that you got rid of it lol.
How true
Or its for sale.
Funny, shows the quality of the mechanics. We had fleets of them in f350-550. Once you know the issues and you repair them they are excellent engines.
Great great video. Just finished my door latch. You rock my friend…
I knew the weed baggie was going back in the door pocket, but I chuckled at the Shhh
I just love all that plastic on modern cars. What could be more durable, pleasant to the touch and downright attractive?
Great Video today Eric... Love to watch you work with your endless words of wisdom... Keep it up... btw how is vinny??? he still around?
Thanks for the video, look’s like you were having a reaally good day.👍😀😀
