@Craig Ward I had to come back too. It's crazy how he ( Troy McClure) had a fish fetish before Kanye West (Gay Fish).

Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such shows as The Simpsons season 3, and season 4...
I wish youtube had the option for a sadface. Disliking the comment isnt quite right. Your joke was very funny. It just also makes me sad :(.

In this day and age, this would actually happen lol.
Maybe it'll be a prediction to one.
Were the 90's that different?
so why hasn't it?
We all love legitimate theatre....
No I think the songs would offend someone.
Zaius' deadpan expression throughout the whole song is what fucking cracks me up.
Yeah, he looks like he’s just bored and annoyed with the other apes dancing around him
The thought of Phil Hartman in a booth singing these lyrics really tickles me
“I love you Dr Zaius!”

- Song breaks
Fuck, I miss oldschool Simpsons
Nothing in old school simpsons is nonsense, dumbass. Jist cuz you may not understand some of it doesn't change the fact everything was meticulously thought out and planned. Nothing was left to chance.
Old Simpsons had dumb cameos too. Peter Frampton, Smashing Pumpkins, the Rolling Stones, even Paul and Linda McCartney were some dumb cameos just to have cameos.
The one *everyone* missed was in the beginning of this very clip. Mac Parker, Troy's agent, was voiced by an uncredited Jeff Goldblum.
@@MrParkerman6 I know it's been a year, but this is pretty ridiculous. Not only is it laughable to imply that something in an animated show could be "left up to chance" but you also clearly didn't understand my entire point regarding the term "nonsense". Oldschool Simpsons, while funny, creative and well-written as probably never an animated sitcom before or after, had their fair share of absolute nonsense and were richer for it. In this very clip you have breakdancing apes, in "Cape Feare" you have Sideshow Bob repeatedly stepping on rakes to enhance the runtime of the episode (not making this up, that's the genuine reason), in "Duffless" you have Chief Wiggum explode after colliding with a tree, and the entire conception of the Sea Captain was because the writers wanted to have a character using "sea talk" for no good reason other than that they thought it was funny. None of these things make sense outside of the show's universe but the show is much funnier because of it. Something being nonsensical doesn't make it bad, as Lewis Carroll, Terry Pratchett and yes, oldschool Simpsons writers will happily attest.
@@nopejoeandangie Hahahaha peter Frampton's bit was brilliant with the talkbox "do you feel...
Like . We. Do"

'I hate every ape I see, from chimpan A to chimpanzee' may be the greatest line in the entire show

There is now an entire generation that has grown up watching "The Simpsons" and yet probably has no idea who Troy McClure is.
feel sorry for them to be honest
I grew up in the 90s watching the Simpson's and I was never quite sure who he was portraying . I figured just Hollyweird guys in general
I always thought they were parodying Troy Donahue. He was a generic, middle of the road movie star from the sixties who was washed up by the end of that decade and relegated to guest starring on crappy TV shows.
@@sardonicus76 you are right, I looked it up. Doug McClure and Troy Donahue and a dash of Phil Hartman makes up the Troy McClure character. I know who Hartman was but never heard of the other two guys.

Troy's agent was MacArthur Parker voiced by Jeff Goldblum. If that's not a Weird Al Yankovic reference, I don't know what is.
I never knew that. Now I can't unhear it!
I can even hear the patented Goldblum Pause
What next? The agent getting Troy to appear in a musical based on The Elephant Man? Er ...
WOW! that's actually incredible, how did I never know that
davincent98 Would've been funnier with "Uh" and "Um" every few words.
This was just great writing by people who knew what funny is. Hartman also had the perfect voice for this character like what he says the movie or the planet.
The Simpsons at its best! The composer, Alf Clausen, was fired recently. That's sad. BTW, that's Jeff Goldblum as the agent on the phone.
Phil Hartman was one of the most versatile actors EVER. GOAT.
Like Jay Bauman once said, he was funny even whenever he was just standing there not doing anything.
Simpsons taught me more than school ever did. Seriously, whenever a historical question or fact comes up I'm always like "simpsons referenced that" and reenact the scene to all who'll listen. I'd never seen planet of the apes before this either, I was like 8 or 9 years old
I don't think anyone realizes how genius this is.
Yeah no one realizes it, I guess that's why it became one of the most popular bits of The Simpsons, since its debut!

By accounts, she had a serious drug problem and was high at the time of the murder. The exact details are sketchier, but she was badly messed up.
She was abusive emotionally per Joe Rogan, and Phil was a very nice, supportive guy
Andy Dick gave her a bunch of drugs that sent her spiralling into a relapse. John Lovitz grabbed him and smashed his face into the bar at a club after he joked about it

That RHYME was lazy, Dr. Zaius!
dude literally had 3 people walking circles around him and bowing after that, maybe the apes have lower rhyming standards?
Well, he is mostly just standing around while the other apes repeat his name over and over.
This is better than a movie - WHY?!
Of course-it's legitimate the-a-ter
The funniest parody they ever did by a mile. I just wish I'd had a chance to see the actual movie first. I ended up seeing it for the first time maybe a year later, I was 13 or 14 I think. So, it kinda made the ending a lot less of a shocker.
I can't really blame THEM for that, I mean, the movie was almost thirty years old by then, FIFTY now. Though I wish all the box sets of those movies and VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray covers didn't put the statue on their covers and in their menus and shit. That's kind of a dick move.
I'm not saying the movie needs a spoiler alert, but they shouldn't so blatantly go the other way, either.
I probably saw this episode as a kid hundreds of times. I watched it for the first time in 20 years and I could still remember that song. This is when The Simpsons were the best thing on TV

R.I.P to the great Phil Hartman. So, much talent gone too soon
This is one of those scenes that I remember watching (and laughing) so vividly even though it was like 20 years ago
Honestly one of my favourite Simpsons moments in the whole show
Can't decide whether the breakdancing was totally irrelevant , or absolutely necessary...
This brings back memories. I had a CD called Songs in the Key of Springfield with a bunch of Simpsons musical bits and this was one of them along with "Baby on Board" and "Stonecutters".
So it was actually Earth all along then? Wow.
This spoiled it for me when I was a kid.
I remember seeing this before I saw the actual Planet of the Apes movie, and then I finally rented it and thought it was gonna be a light hearted musical. Damn was I wrong.
Wow, he really CAN sing! And I'm not talking about Troy McClure.
Hartman was also a skilled illustrator and designer. He designed a lot of album covers (especially for Crosby, Stills, and Nash, hence David Crosby's appearance as Lionel Hutz's AA sponsor) and according to Jon Lovitz spent a lot of time at the Groundlings drawing when he wasn't performing. Genuinely a modern Renaissance man.
Back from the time when the Simpsons was the best show on TV.
That's Jeff Goldblum as his agent on the phone!
What? 😮
The music in this used to be so so good.
You have to admit.
