The thing I find infuriating about the OC is how the developers were somehow compelled to include several dozens locked chests on each area that take 5-10 seconds to open each and have basically nothing inside due to the randomized loot scaled to your level. If you are not playing rogue you are basically forced to pick Tomi as your henchman.
I totally agree it would have been a easy fix by changing the loot table just a little bit. I think it came down to they didn't understand DND rules and character builds. Even a potion of healing of some sort is the most valuable loot if you think about it. Powering through the layout and not having to stop would have served them a better purpose in the feel of OC.
Gotta say I really didn't expect to see the OC here, but as usual excellent content. Most people rarely talk about anything other than how inferior the OC is to SoU/HotU, so it's quite refreshing to hear someone finally mention some good things about the main campaign. Btw have you ever thought about reviewing any of the nwn2 modules?
Thanks for the comment. Yeah. Nw2 will be on this channel as well. Not sure when but I know there are some really sweet remakes on that version I want to check out.
I like the OC. It has many memorable moments and the only con is the bloated dungeon design in-between those moments. But I have finished it like 4 times with different builds over the years. Also I fucking love Aribeth! And Gringnaw is da bomb!
The OC gets shit on way too often. Sure it's not the most original, but a base campaign like that HAS to be your classic adventure, and frankly it's fine. At least they spared us the chosen one/prophecy crap they gave us in BG.
Oooo I recently learned that someone basically did a full module remake of this campaign under the title "Androeroica" with the goal of making something inclusive to minority parts of the community like LGBTQ+ and Native peoples, but it looks like it might just be an upgrade in general in gameplay with balancing and in writing via making the dialog more human and actually having companions talk to each other instead of running on autopilot template energy, and that def seems called for on the campaign with the plague blanket filler quest. I'm def curious how that is considering the old fan sequels of the Wailing Death and the upcoming new one on the way for this thing.
I just love the music section you included! Beautiful aspect that is not mentioned often..

And the henchmen do also have some quests for the player.

Interesting. Hadn't heard of it. When I revisit the OC might want to try this variant. Thanks. 🤙
