@@mariomedina311 I think it's more like skating in the 90's you had your favourite styles. koston was very different to Thomas but they both were street skating and both insane. Same with the freestyle variations it's all fun to watch and you just lean in on what your flavor is.
I have run really low rates with no expo for a good while now. Recently I've upped my rates but still no expo... Mine are currently in the 600-700 range.... I've ran really high rates in the past (1200) as well... The thing I've found through all of it though, and no matter how good you are, high rates result in a lot of corrections, because no matter how good you are you will over rotate and have to correct. That over rotating can happen at most any rate point, but the likelihood is much higher as the rate value increases. I'm glad to see you out making content again and love to see people buck the trend and do their own thing. Keep ripping brother!

Everyones flow and style should be personal, i love the low and fast as hell stuff but i cant do the zero expo, my fingers shake to much😂 so i adjusted. Same with high rates i found i was mid sticking it to roll and if i lowered the rates i could just bang it to the end and hold for .5 sec and i know itll alway be level, then I can focus on trying not to hit things in between 🤣🤣🤣

I run no expo but i run low rates. It gives me 100% control and buttery footage. I kinda feel the opposite of you i saw that at 750° i watched 3 full packs and i never hit the edge of my stick. So i felt like i was just cheating myself out of resolution. But i can still do any proxy trick anyone can. I feel it makes me faster if the quads slower if that makes sense. And on saves it actually makes me less bobbly and i save it more. But its w.e anybody wants to do. Just saying you dont HAVE to have high rates to do it. Its wichever works for you.

There isn’t anyone (that I’ve seen) banging out the stuff I am as tight and close to sheet as I am except for maybe less than 5 bros. Not sure if your comment about “anyone” had me lumped in or not. I’ll also go out on a limb and agree, I can 1000% pull any stunt I want at significantly lower rates, even in the 400 range. However, this leave zero room for error or ability to spot your next line when you’re flying 60mph in a highly congested environment. I run 50+ uptilt and don’t speed ramp period. I keep it 100 with everything I do. I’ll also go out on a limb and challenge someone, anyone to replicate some of the stuff I’m pulling, even Lumpy (he was one of my first subscribers btw). I can say this, because I’ve worked tirelessly learning every trick there is to learn. There isn’t anything I won’t try or can’t pull off…maybe😜. To the core, my rates are in line with the speeds I fly proportionate to the proximity of hard object I fly around. Again, I ain’t the king of FPV, but I can about guarantee you not too many folks are in the same zone. Again, no hard feelings as I say in the video, rates are very personalized. And that it doesn't work for everyone but those people can still get it done in other ways. We don't even really do the same shit so I could say that in the other direction too so that's irrelevant but you're kind of a monster so what I'm saying is yes, all that is true for you. But alot of people can't do it and maintain control. So it's okay for them to fly lower rates if they need too as well, they can still do anything.

Give it a go. For some just starting out those rates are very hot. If you find yourself whipping it crazy like, just start dialing it back until you find the sweet spot. Thanks so much and hope you have a great weekend!
Love it! Personally I feel like locking yourself into a singular way of flying limits your overall skill set and just kinda makes for a stagnant experience in Fpv in general. I see a lot of people quit Fpv and I really think it’s because it gets boring when u don’t mix it up 🤷♂️.
I'm no expert quad flier but I can fly them, I learnt to fly RC planes by myself, had no idea what expo was so I didn't use it, I have to use high rates on Helis otherwise I crash, I've alway went high rates on Planes. No expo on my Emax 6s Buzz or my 1 & 2s Whoops. No expo on my more 3D planes, I use brain/finger expo. I do use expo on WW2 Warbirds now as it help with scale (ish) flying. I run high rates as well 1200 in fact, what I found is the rate determines how far you rotate when you go from center to taping the outside and back. A rate of 600 gives you 90 degrees or rotation and 1200 gives 180 degrees of rotation. This give you nice clean moves without the overshoot that you have to learn to correct if you run at 700, 800 etc.
It’s all science! I don’t see overshoot as a fault. “We” all like to see tricks and lines laid out perfectly strait but I’m a realist for sure. In order to do some of the more technical tricks really tight, you gotta run higher rates. Agreed and thank you!

Ive been racing tinywhoops in velocidrone and came to very similar arguments. Having high rates no expo gives such a responsive smooth feeling. I went back to my 5in quad rates and felt an immidiate ick, like I wasnt connected to the quad at all. One major downside is it amplifies any nervous jitters or fatigued haphazardness.
With actual rates expo just moves the "kink", doesn't mean you lose the center stick input. You just get a broader center stick region if anything it gives you finer control in the center, if its too low you can raise center sensitivity to compensate, you can still have jittery flying with expo, the guys who want the buttery smooth video use stabilization in anyways so I don't think they use expo for the masses, just for the feel they want. Expo is just a matter of personal preference. I don't use expo on yaw but I do like some on pitch and roll. another thing to consider is gimbals, Lite gimbals have less throw so already have less space to work with than full size gimbals
@@minimaistor you’re correct, and I agree with your comment. Thanks for taking the time to explain. The expo I’m referring to is stick or physical gimbal expo added in your radio. I also understand all of these adjustments can be made in software. I run Kiss but fly everything for work including radios with larger gimbals. Also agree expo doesn’t remove all the jitters but definitely helps those who can’t control finer mid stick movements. Just wanted to add context to why I run the higher rates as it applies to my style. Another earlier comment was made about being able to achieve similar results using slower rates. I agree in that, yes you can fly slower rates and perform similar tricks but much is lost in video. The camera doesn’t give a good representation of how close a pilot, me in this particular case is flying to objects and the ground. Been at this a hot minute and know from many hours that slower rates in highly technical situations with stick expo at high speeds usually doesn’t go the way you’d expect. Again, really appreciate that feedback! Invaluable!
@@PhantomFPV oh yea no one should ever use the expo on the radio for drones, that really will ruin the control-ability of the quad completely and that comes down to much more technical details which are pretty boring. As for the rates part I use 800max or 850, don't remember(actual rates). I wouldn't be comfortable doing what your doing with anything lower ( I already can't, yet) its one of those "just because you can doesn't mean you should" situations. The wide FOV we love for FPV freestyle conveys speed but definitely doesn't convey scale and only those who know, know and understand.

I’ve been tuning a very long time but recently took a course with PIDToolbox that truly opened my eyes to the possible and what a properly tuned machine feels like. As well as understanding all the various settings and functions Betaflight has to offer. With Kiss I usually run a preset then make small adjustments based on sound and performance. Sick rip man like always i run 50% expo i have shakey hands and fingers when doing tedius shit so the expo helps the shake a little so you dont see it in the footage but i never looked at it like that running no expo you have full control i like that so im going to try a few packs with no expo cause i like having full control see how it goes my rates are not that high though i run 900 degrees so lets try this thanks man 👍👍👍👍
I've watched you for years. None of this is applicable for me as I don't have this level of talent. No expo = my ham fists causing me to crash into proximity obstacles. Low rates, I can't get tricks in. High rates, no expo + your brain = great flights. I am missing one of those!

Ive gotten where im used to no expo and like it. My rates arent as fast as yours but im not flying as fast as you. I am slowly speeding up and raising the speed of my rates to match my speed. But i personally feel like my style and speed are coming together.. im 3 years in not 10+. My point is i agree. Your rates match your style and speed. Which i think is what you are saying lol.

I’m a flow style flyer and I can also do the cool kid tricks like rubic and trippy spins but I don’t like being told how I can and can’t fly so I went back to flow style flying. I don’t value likes either I just like my footage to be watchable most people don’t like flip and fast turns all the time and we do make content for people to view or we wouldn’t upload
I imagine this is how street style skateboarders felt in the 90’s when pipe was the main and biggest show. I actually know this as fact because I was a street skater in the 90’s all the way through the 2000’s when street started to become more popular than pipe because of its diversity and technical versatility. You 1000% have never been told how to fly on this channel because even in the video I specifically say your style and how you fly is up to the individual pilot. I’ve always maintained that. Yes we upload for views because we want to share our art with the world. Just so happens my art is a little more abstract than others. Again, I did make a stab at flow because IMHO it is the most basic and easiest form of freestyle, but we’ve placed it on this godlike pedestal. When 99% of UA-cam channels are uploading indistinguishable flights from one another, that is a clear indication to me that flow is something everyone can master regardless of skill level. (This is a general statement and how I view the specific style not a condemnation for doing flow. We all have to start somewhere.) Flying very fast and technical, I don’t ase too many of those uplands. Food for thought. Unlike any other sport in the world, FPV defines “pros” by self proclamation or subscriptions. This is frustrating because FPV is no longer “just a hobby” for me. I’m all in. However, I agree this is not the case for most as generally, people are doing it for fun and as a hobby. Which is why I clearly state it’s up to the pilot to decide their setup and style. Lastly, as an example, I started adding tricks on tricks or combos like the rubik matty, the double flip matty, and the inverted yawspin matty because I found the regular matty to be the easiest and most over used trick in the industry. It’s like the hand plant was to pipe. If we keep doing basic shit, our hobby at a “pro” level will always remain basic. Generally people take my comments as directed at them personally. For me, if I didn’t call you out specifically by name, I’m speaking in the general sense and shouldn’t be taken as such. Im using 940 with no expo. I found your video very interesting because most people say you need to use expo, I guess it depends on the person, for most people they might not have the dexterity to control no expo and then there are gifted individuals that can 👌
@@ronaldcphotography it’s definitely a feel or somewhat subjective topic. I used to obsess over my footage but wanted to get away from stabilization and expo. Stability because I didn’t like the mushy video appearance after editing and expo because I like small movements. Expo really forced me to use more of the stick than I felt necessary. Nice I was always wondering if I needed expo as well I fly 1000 roll and pitch 1150 on yaw 0.35 expo. I think I'll try carrying down. I'm new in the hobby but you're one of my favourite pilots too. Anyway have a good day 😊

Love it! Personally I feel like locking yourself into a singular way of flying limits your overall skill set and just kinda makes for a stagnant experience in Fpv in general. I see a lot of people quit Fpv and I really think it’s because it gets boring when u don’t mix it up 🤷♂️.

I'm no expert quad flier but I can fly them, I learnt to fly RC planes by myself, had no idea what expo was so I didn't use it, I have to use high rates on Helis otherwise I crash, I've alway went high rates on Planes. No expo on my Emax 6s Buzz or my 1 & 2s Whoops. No expo on my more 3D planes, I use brain/finger expo. I do use expo on WW2 Warbirds now as it help with scale (ish) flying. I run high rates as well 1200 in fact, what I found is the rate determines how far you rotate when you go from center to taping the outside and back. A rate of 600 gives you 90 degrees or rotation and 1200 gives 180 degrees of rotation. This give you nice clean moves without the overshoot that you have to learn to correct if you run at 700, 800 etc.
It’s all science! I don’t see overshoot as a fault. “We” all like to see tricks and lines laid out perfectly strait but I’m a realist for sure. In order to do some of the more technical tricks really tight, you gotta run higher rates. Agreed and thank you!

Ive been racing tinywhoops in velocidrone and came to very similar arguments. Having high rates no expo gives such a responsive smooth feeling. I went back to my 5in quad rates and felt an immidiate ick, like I wasnt connected to the quad at all. One major downside is it amplifies any nervous jitters or fatigued haphazardness.

How’d that work for you?
With actual rates expo just moves the "kink", doesn't mean you lose the center stick input. You just get a broader center stick region if anything it gives you finer control in the center, if its too low you can raise center sensitivity to compensate, you can still have jittery flying with expo, the guys who want the buttery smooth video use stabilization in anyways so I don't think they use expo for the masses, just for the feel they want.
Expo is just a matter of personal preference. I don't use expo on yaw but I do like some on pitch and roll.
another thing to consider is gimbals, Lite gimbals have less throw so already have less space to work with than full size gimbals

The expo I’m referring to is stick or physical gimbal expo added in your radio. I also understand all of these adjustments can be made in software. I run Kiss but fly everything for work including radios with larger gimbals. Also agree expo doesn’t remove all the jitters but definitely helps those who can’t control finer mid stick movements. Just wanted to add context to why I run the higher rates as it applies to my style. Another earlier comment was made about being able to achieve similar results using slower rates. I agree in that, yes you can fly slower rates and perform similar tricks but much is lost in video. The camera doesn’t give a good representation of how close a pilot, me in this particular case is flying to objects and the ground. Been at this a hot minute and know from many hours that slower rates in highly technical situations with stick expo at high speeds usually doesn’t go the way you’d expect. Again, really appreciate that feedback! Invaluable!
@@PhantomFPV oh yea no one should ever use the expo on the radio for drones, that really will ruin the control-ability of the quad completely and that comes down to much more technical details which are pretty boring. As for the rates part I use 800max or 850, don't remember(actual rates). I wouldn't be comfortable doing what your doing with anything lower ( I already can't, yet) its one of those "just because you can doesn't mean you should" situations.
The wide FOV we love for FPV freestyle conveys speed but definitely doesn't convey scale and only those who know, know and understand.

I’ve been tuning a very long time but recently took a course with PIDToolbox that truly opened my eyes to the possible and what a properly tuned machine feels like. As well as understanding all the various settings and functions Betaflight has to offer. With Kiss I usually run a preset then make small adjustments based on sound and performance. Sick rip man like always i run 50% expo i have shakey hands and fingers when doing tedius shit so the expo helps the shake a little so you dont see it in the footage but i never looked at it like that running no expo you have full control i like that so im going to try a few packs with no expo cause i like having full control see how it goes my rates are not that high though i run 900 degrees so lets try this thanks man 👍👍👍👍

Ive gotten where im used to no expo and like it. My rates arent as fast as yours but im not flying as fast as you. I am slowly speeding up and raising the speed of my rates to match my speed. But i personally feel like my style and speed are coming together.. im 3 years in not 10+.

I’m a flow style flyer and I can also do the cool kid tricks like rubic and trippy spins but I don’t like being told how I can and can’t fly so I went back to flow style flying. I don’t value likes either I just like my footage to be watchable most people don’t like flip and fast turns all the time and we do make content for people to view or we wouldn’t upload
I imagine this is how street style skateboarders felt in the 90’s when pipe was the main and biggest show. I actually know this as fact because I was a street skater in the 90’s all the way through the 2000’s when street started to become more popular than pipe because of its diversity and technical versatility.
You 1000% have never been told how to fly on this channel because even in the video I specifically say your style and how you fly is up to the individual pilot. I’ve always maintained that.
Yes we upload for views because we want to share our art with the world. Just so happens my art is a little more abstract than others. Again, I did make a stab at flow because IMHO it is the most basic and easiest form of freestyle, but we’ve placed it on this godlike pedestal. When 99% of UA-cam channels are uploading indistinguishable flights from one another, that is a clear indication to me that flow is something everyone can master regardless of skill level. (This is a general statement and how I view the specific style not a condemnation for doing flow. We all have to start somewhere.)
Flying very fast and technical, I don’t ase too many of those uplands. Food for thought.
Unlike any other sport in the world, FPV defines “pros” by self proclamation or subscriptions. This is frustrating because FPV is no longer “just a hobby” for me. I’m all in. However, I agree this is not the case for most as generally, people are doing it for fun and as a hobby. Which is why I clearly state it’s up to the pilot to decide their setup and style.
Lastly, as an example, I started adding tricks on tricks or combos like the rubik matty, the double flip matty, and the inverted yawspin matty because I found the regular matty to be the easiest and most over used trick in the industry. It’s like the hand plant was to pipe. If we keep doing basic shit, our hobby at a “pro” level will always remain basic. Generally people take my comments as directed at them personally. For me, if I didn’t call you out specifically by name, I’m speaking in the general sense and shouldn’t be taken as such.

Im using 940 with no expo. I found your video very interesting because most people say you need to use expo, I guess it depends on the person, for most people they might not have the dexterity to control no expo and then there are gifted individuals that can 👌
@@ronaldcphotography it’s definitely a feel or somewhat subjective topic. I used to obsess over my footage but wanted to get away from stabilization and expo. Stability because I didn’t like the mushy video appearance after editing and expo because I like small movements. Expo really forced me to use more of the stick than I felt necessary. Love watching different styles, I always think Stingy on steroids when I watch yours ❤ No expo, stock rates myself. Prefer the linear feel. Every input on the sticks changes the quad the same amount no matter where I'm throwing it from
