Great show Pete, one of my favorite bands of all time, and one of the only classic bands that comes to the UK every year and play out of their skins every time.Last year they had no support and played for 2 1/2 hours, amazing night.
I just wanted to thank you for all the great and positive content you put out. Watching your video reminds me of hanging out and talking music with my friends.
Great, great ranking! Y&T is a fantastic band wich I have followed for over 35 years. I never gave up on them and bought their 90:s albums at release! They have always released music with lots of quality, and never dissapointed me.
The absolute number one is "Earhtshaker". The album is one of my all-time favorite albums. That record rocks from start to finnish, it's hard rock classic!!!
I still love the Yesterday and Today albums. Leonard Haze is a beast and has a killer left foot, an amazing single bass drum player. I still think that those albums have "heft"(the Pete Pard of standard of production: "heft" lol) I agree.
No matter how great their catalogue, and Earthshaker really is a GEM - must have for every serious rock / metal fan - the true genius of Dave and co can only really be experienced in a live performance!
Totally agree... I dont miss them when they roll in...saw them over 15 times....one of the best was a standing ovation for like 9 minutes after I believe in you in Chicago area. Brought dave to tears....
Hello Pete , was always going to be earthshaker, remember hearing when it first came out and absolutely loving how not american it sounded if that makes sense. Saw them a million times in u.k especially 1982 at Reading festival and Newcastle Mayfair, also have several yesterday and today live recordings from the us on cassette. Keep up the rankings because it keeps me sane during pandemic, even if I rarely agree with your choices. Subjective of course.
One of my favorite bands. Dave Meniketti has to be the most underrated guitarist & vocalist of all time. Black Tiger, Mean Streak & Earth Shaker are drop dead classics. This band should have been huge. I still listen to them on a regular basis. They still tour every year.
Great show Pete, and thank you for including also the "older" and the "newer" albums. Just need to get those first albums of Yesterday and Today, never heard them. I had the great pleasure of seeing Y&T's show here in Sweden in October last year, and I must say that we were amazed about the quality of Dave Meniketti's voice, he really had the full power intact which is more than we can say about other ageing artists. And his handling of the guitar was absolutely flawless... very, very impressive. He also seemed to be very happy about his companions in the band, you could feel that he enjoyed playing and singing together with them all. Hopefully their band-harmony can bring them to write some new music, I'd love to see a new album.
New to the channel. Born in 82 and I love anything and everything by bands that i classify as sunset strip rock n roll bands. Anything from WASP, L.A. guns, warrant, whitesnake, poison you name it. I'm glad I found your channel. Even though we have different tastes I am coming to you for good 70s recommendations. Cheers to my friend pete
THANK YOU SO MUCH PETE PARDO FOR YOUR EXCELLENT RANKING AND ASSESSMENT of Y & T's studio albums! You inspired me to write a little paragraph here 3 hours ago about the work of this great band. Now I want to go back to search out those Y & T albums that are missing from my collection. I need to find them and BUY THEM ALL! I really enjoyed listening to this segment! It takes me back!

Pete, thanks for this show and helping bring back a movie memory. About the time you mentioned the song Summertime Girls, I had to take a break from the show for other matters so I played that song to keep show in mind. It sounded like part of a song from the 80s Val Kilmer movie titled Real Genius. Always found his role in that movie entertaining. After doing a bit of research, found out it was that song. I see the SoT archives have a top ten sings of Y&T so will be watching that after getting through your content of the last few days. Thanks again, Pete. Your show remains must-see content.
I love that you cover so many genres! There's a ton of stuff I like that you don't cover...but there's a ton of stuff you have introduced me to. Thanks, Pete..keep up the good work!!
Saw them supporting AC/DC at Hammersmith in 82. Phenomenal. In a later interview Dave cited these as his favourite gigs so happy I was there at the right time. Three of that line-up sadly no longer with us.
I have run into Dave Meneketti a couple times at a Grocery store here in Santa Clara ( CA ) a couple times over the years. He couldn't have been more cool, or down to Earth :)
That's always great to hear! When I worked for a Music Magazine in the 80's I met Def Leppard and Queensryche when they toured together! This was in 1988 during their "Hysteria" and "Operation Mindcrime" albums. Def Lep & Q were both GREAT performers and great people! Both bands spent a LOT of time in the backstage area meeting their fans and it was very exciting for everyone. I have photo's from that time that are priceless to me. DL Guitarist Steve Clark was shy & quiet but posed smiling for an awesome pic with a young teenaged fan. Every time I look at it I think she couldn't possibly look any happier! Good times.
Just happened to be noodling on my guitar whilst watching this....at 18:15, Pete sings the Meanstreak riff in the right key....perfect pitch! Haha! Awesome band!
My wife and me saw them on February 29th. Dave still sings and plays guitar as good as ever. The rest of the band is really good and they do justice to the original songs.
Dave Meniketti’s solo album from 1998 “On the Blue Side” really showcases his prowess on the guitar and is loaded with heavy blues/metal tunes that IMHO rivals anything he did with Y&T. The tone used by him on this album is epic,,,,,,,,
Great band that I listen to a lot still today! 1,2,3 can change any day: Earthshaker/Black Tiger/Mean Streak 4. Struck Down 5. In rock we trust 6. Yesterday & Today 7. Ten 8. Musically Incorrect 9. Down for the count 10. Contagious 11. Endangered Species 12. Facemelter

Can't wait to watch this when I get home from work. Love this band and back in 82 one of the first bands I loved when I was growing up discovering music other than Kiss. Criminally under rated group. Still think Forever is one of the best rock songs ever
Such an underrated band. Always hoped they would get bigger. They couldn’t be put in a musical category and I think that hurt them as far as sales. Their 80’s live you tube videos really show the quality of Meniketti’s voice and guitar. Sadly, Dave Meniketti is the only classic member alive. 1 Mean Streak(Mean Streak song is a stone cold classic) 2 Earthshaker 3 In Rock We Trust 4 Black Tiger 5 Yesterday and Today (debut) 6 Contagious
Well, here in the Bay Area, ( and I don't agree with this mindset, myself... ) what seemed to hurt Y&T's career was A&M releasing "Summertime Girls" which kinda wrecked their momentum as a Melodic Hard Rock band after the highly-successful Meanstreak record, and made them seem that they were getting "soft" and Commercial. Kinda like what happened to Billy Squier with the whole "Rock Me Tonite" Video fiasco that basically tanked Billy's great music career.
Got to chat with Dave and his wife on the monsters of rock cruise-one of the nicest most humble dudes ever! Still has all the vox and chops live-hasn't lost a beat!
without question one of my favorite bands. The first album is a masterclass on hard rock drumming, courtesy of Leonard Haze. have seen the band numerous times and they never fail to deliver the goods. Dave is one of my favorite six-stringers
Saw Y&T last night in Reno, Nv. Criminally underrated band, especially live. Dave is ageless, voice sounded great and he’s such a great bluesy lead player. Check ‘em out if they play near you.
Great ranking Pete. You are spot on with the order. Very underrated band. I found them by accident thanks to Columbia House cassette club (yes I'm old) when they shipped Ten to me by mistake. I got hooked and love the many eras of the band.
I’m a huge Y&T fan, my friend turned me on to them in the 80’s and have loved them ever since. I absolutely love the Ten album, it’s a classic from star to finish with Ten Lovers being the top song of the album. Down for the count was mid 80’s was a fun album. Summertime Girls was a fun song, All American Boy is also like Summertime Girls, a fun commercial song. I never got too into Endangered Species to much. In Rock We Trust was a great album, Don’t Stop Running, Lipstick and Leather is cool. Musically Incorrect, like Endangered Species, I didn’t listen to it much. Contagious is AWESOME, loved this album, Contagious, Girl Crazy, City, and I loved Rhythm or Not, a very cool, kinda dirty, misogynistic song. The first two albums, I never really got into these two albums. Black Tiger was a great album, Meanstreak, awesome album. I would disagree with your number one pick but I agree Earthshaker is an awesome album. All in All your picks were great, love Y&T. Most underrated rock band from the west coast, being from NY originally I can understand when a local band hits it big on the east coast, like another favorite band of mine Blue Öyster Cult, very big on the east not so much on the west coast. I like your rankings, keep up the good work. \m/ Stay Metal \m/
Always been my fave band along with BOC. I adore "in rock we trust" the most. Earthshaker and meanstreak are up there as masterpiece albums too. Black tiger is really underated too.
Great band, Cinderella, and Tom Keifer stuff is STELLAR! Cinderella, along with Ratt, Tesla, Dokken, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Love/Hate, Mr. Big, Warrior Soul, and Saigon Kick (to name just a few) were unfairly lumped in with shit hair metal bands who cared more about eyeliner and mascara than riffs and musicianship! Would absolutely love to see Cinderella reunite-all their albums are packed with great tuneage. take care.
@@treffbennett6534 Cinderella's first album is Glam Metal, their later albums are Blues/Hard Rock. There's no music genre as hair metal,, that term was invented in the 90s to ridicule 80s Hard Rock Bands, thats why you have all these 80s bands lumped in that made up genre.
Love these guys, my top 3 1 - In Rock We Trust 2- Black Tiger 3- Mean Streak... My number 1 is the first time I saw them in concert and it has just stuck with me ever since. Nice Job Pete!!! keep up the fantastic work.
I was introduced to this band by a friend in 1984 who gave me "In Rock We Trust" on cassette to listen too and I never looked back. This was my favorite album and Masters and Slaves my favorite song from this album.
1. In Rock We Trust 2. Earthshaker 3. Black Tiger 4. Mean Streak 5. Ten 6. Musically Incorrect 7. Endangered Species 8. Contagious 9. Facemelter 10. Down For the Count Great analysis on the 2 mid-90's albums. I always thought "Fly Away" was Dave Meniketti finding his inner Robin Trower. And they're still a fantastic live band.
One of my favorite bands of all time. Mean Streak, was when I got into them the title song was all needed to hear and I was hooked, they got two albums out of just songs of rarities that you got to get fantastic stuff can't believe that never made it to album.
As a longtime Bay Area guy, I go way back listening to Y&T and seeing them live. I've never understood why they never really broke through huge. Dave Meniketti's talents deserved better. My Top Five: 1. Mean Streak 2. Earthshaker 3. Black Tiger 4. In Rock We Trust 5. Contagious
Good band. Nice review of their career output. My personal favorite is "In Rock We Trust". As a further suggestion along these hard rock lines, I have two other bands which I don't think Pete has covered previously, and these two bands are personal favorites of mine. The two bands are Great White and Kix. Both bands have a long history and, among hard rock circles, are talented, well-respected acts. I have not heard Pete discuss any of these bands previously, so I am not sure if he is super familiar with them. I think both bands are a bit underrated, and given the great job Pete does with all his album reviews, I would be interested in hearing his take on the discographies of these two bands.
I saw Y & T live 3 times and also met dave and phil, they are great and cool guys to talk and one of the best live bands so the best albums are the live ones, i myself love the albums 10 from 1990, musically incorrect from 1995 and black tiger from the early eighties, i saw them twice at sweden rock festival, a band that is invited twice to sweden rock festival in less than 10 years is not an underrated band but a great band, thanks pete for ranking this great live band.
Glad to see this one. I was lucky enough to go to an album signing right after Black Tiger came out and had that and Earthshaker signed by the entire band at Tower Records in Mt. View, CA. Amazing only Dave is with us from original band. They got way too radio friendly on some of those later albums seeming to search for that commercial hit. Dave has those perfect rock vocals. Very underrated.
Thanks Pete, I’ve seen this band many times. An East Bay band. 1 Black Tiger 2 Earthshaker 3 Mean Streak 4 Yesterday and Today 5 In Rock We Trust 6 Down for the Count 7 Ten 8 Contagious 9 Musically Incorrect 10 Facemelter
I love Y&T, I Discovered them about the same time I discovered Tygers of Pan Tang back in the early 80's. They were really cool to jam to with your buddies and friends back in the 80s.
OH YES! LOVE THIS. Y&T ONE OF MY FAVORITES. UNDER RATED. TEN MEAN STREAK EARTHQUAKER YESTERDAY AND TODAY BLACK TIGER IN ROCK WE TRUST CONTAGIOUS! DOWN FOR THE COUNT 2 ALBUMS WITH RARE B SIDE UNRELEASED TRACKS! FACE MELTER! I'VE TRAVELED TO CA OVER THE YEARS WHEN THEY PLAY ALL OVER LA AND ORANGE COUNTY SO I CAN SEE THEM MORE THAN ONCE. ITS' WORTH EVERY PENNY. DAVE IS ONE OF THE NICEST GUYS TO TALK TO NO ROCK STAR ATTITUDE.
Adore this band. Earthshaker, Black Tiger, Mean Steak, Down for the count, In rock we trust and Ten are simply brilliant. Whenever I need a pick me up, Anytime at all is always a go to, melodic but kick ass.
Bought recently Earthshaker,Black Tiger and Mean Streak .Had Mean Streak on cassette when came out never a huge fan of this band at the time but definitely like a lot more now.Love Pete's accurate guitar vocal intro to Mean Streak.
1. Mean streak 2. Black tiger 3. In rock we trust 4. Earthshaker 5. Down for the count 6. Struck down 7. Ten 8. Contagious 9. Yesterday and today 10. Endangered species 11. Musically in correct 12. Facemelter
Y&T rules! They were the last band I saw live in February before the pandemic. Menketti still kicks ass on vocals! Your ranking is pretty spot on I think.
Great band and I was so happy to finally see them live this past January. What a great show and Dave sounded perfect and showed his sense of humor with stories and joking about. The only thing that sucked was two drunk guys. One was annoying and the other kept bumping into my dad and I and so my dad got pissed and almost threw down. Anyway, loved them for many years and wish they would start recording again.
My first exposure to Y&T was when I was a kid i had this giant concert poster from Germany that advertised an Ozzy live show and at the top it said that Y&T where opening.
Just ordered the box set of their first 5 albums plus a live disc. Couldn't beat the price, so thanks again Pete for another band I only had a best of from. But like you say a best of collection doesn't always have a bands best songs!
another great show! thanks Pete. How about some cutting edge rock like the Cars, Boston, Zep, Point Blank, Shooting Star, Kansas and the like?! Timeless and important don't you think?
My top 10 1. Black Tiger 2. Earthshaker 3. Meanstreak 4. Musically Incorrect 5. In Rock We Trust 6. Endangered Species 7. Facemelter 8. Contagious 9. Struck Down 10. Ten
What a band. Leonard Haze, what a tremendous drummer. His right foot alone was amazing. Menikettis tone was just rock. Jimmy Di Grasso also a great drummer. Earhshaker and Mean Streak for me. Remember seeing them support AC/DC in the UK on Back in Black tour. What a great night.
You mean the For Those About to Rock tour. The NEC gig on that tour was my introduction to Y&T, went out straight away and bought Black Tiger. Although it is incomplete check out the AC/DC tour history website, it says that ticket cost me £6 !! Love Y&T 🇬🇧🏍
YES!!! Love these guys I grew up in Northern CA and they were THE hard rock band. The first 5 albums are hard to beat. I don’t have the others except Facemelter (which I really like. The song Blind Patriot has a great chorus). I have a couple live releases as well. I need to search out the other CD’s I am missing. So of the ones I have I will go 1 Black Tiger 2 Earthshaker 3 Struckdown (not as good as the others but I still love it for the nostalgia I have for it) 4) Meanstreak 5) Facemelter 6) Yesterday & Today Again, I need to search out the rest.
Y&T probably the most underrated band ever

Always been my fave band along with BOC. I adore "in rock we trust" the most. Earthshaker and meanstreak are up there as masterpiece albums too. Black tiger is really underated too.
The two unearthed volumes are pretty darn rockin.
Great show again Pete. Ranking the albums of Cinderella would be a good show 👍
That would take 10 minutes since they only have 4 albums
@@seancsehil7081 😁😁😁😁😁😁
@@seancsehil7081 Pete's ranked plenty of bands with four albums, and less.
'In Rock We Trust' was one of my early metal albums. I discovered their previous stuff after that album. Love Black Tiger!
Eartshaker my nr 1. One of the first hard rock albums I bought back in the early 80s.
In Rock We Trust is my number one album. Great band. Always listened to them back in the day.
Love these guys, my top 3 1 - In Rock We Trust 2- Black Tiger 3- Mean Streak... My number 1 is the first time I saw them in concert and it has just stuck with me ever since. Nice Job Pete!!! keep up the fantastic work.
Brilliant band, saw them on the Mean streak tour.
I was introduced to this band by a friend in 1984 who gave me "In Rock We Trust" on cassette to listen too and I never looked back. This was my favorite album and Masters and Slaves my favorite song from this album.
1. In Rock We Trust
2. Earthshaker
3. Black Tiger
4. Mean Streak
5. Ten
6. Musically Incorrect
7. Endangered Species
8. Contagious
9. Facemelter
10. Down For the Count
Great analysis on the 2 mid-90's albums. I always thought "Fly Away" was Dave Meniketti finding his inner Robin Trower. And they're still a fantastic live band.
Glad to see some love for Y&T
One of my favorite bands of all time. Mean Streak, was when I got into them the title song was all needed to hear and I was hooked, they got two albums out of just songs of rarities that you got to get fantastic stuff can't believe that never made it to album.
great ranking Pete keep that way
Great show Pete.. With you on the top 3👍
In Rock We Trust was my first intro to them. Probably my fav studio album by them.
Great show about a band worth to discover 🚀🌍👍🏼
As a longtime Bay Area guy, I go way back listening to Y&T and seeing them live. I've never understood why they never really broke through huge. Dave Meniketti's talents deserved better. My Top Five:
1. Mean Streak
2. Earthshaker
3. Black Tiger
4. In Rock We Trust
5. Contagious
I love their Unearthed albums.

I love Y&T, I Discovered them about the same time I discovered Tygers of Pan Tang back in the early 80's. They were really cool to jam to with your buddies and friends back in the 80s.
The first song/video I saw was Mean Streak, still my favourite.
Midnight In Tokyo is the best song for me.

Love it when you do the 80s bands.
Gotta say, fan since 1984, In Rock We Trust is awesome, and possibly underrated generally speaking...
I always loved Y&T's live album "Open Fire", played that disc over and over!
Face melter is in my top five. Best production of all the albums.
Top 3
1. Earthshaker
2. Black Tiger
3. Meanstreak.
Earthshaker was the first one I ever heard and is still top of the list.
Loved these guys from way way back. Still have the VHS Live from San Francisco.
Glad Dave turned down the Ozzy gig.
My first exposure to Y&T was when I was a kid i had this giant concert poster from Germany that advertised an Ozzy live show and at the top it said that Y&T where opening.
Saw them in Cardiff in 83, got on the stage with them and was swiftly removed lol. Great band.
Great job as always, I would love to hear your thoughts on Blind Guardian and how you would rank their albums
Good list, 1-2-3 in any order you just can't go wrong. Love this band, saw them twice in 82 and 83
One of my all-time fav bands.
Just ordered the box set of their first 5 albums plus a live disc. Couldn't beat the price, so thanks again Pete for another band I only had a best of from. But like you say a best of collection doesn't always have a bands best songs!
Looking forward to Agitation Free. What a nice surprise!
Black Tiger, Meanstreak, Earthshaker, Contagious, In Rock my top 5
another great show! thanks Pete. How about some cutting edge rock like the Cars, Boston, Zep, Point Blank, Shooting Star, Kansas and the like?! Timeless and important don't you think?
I've done shows on most of those, please check the playlists. Not The Cars though...Point Blank is coming.
As I've already said in one of the previous videos, Y&T's Earthshaker is, together with Riot's Fire Down Under, the best heavy metal album I know.
Also, they released a DVD documentary called On With The Show. Pete, if you don’t have it, I think you would enjoy it.
I learned a lot about a band here I wanted to learn a lot about for some time.
My top 10
1. Black Tiger
2. Earthshaker
3. Meanstreak
4. Musically Incorrect
5. In Rock We Trust
6. Endangered Species
7. Facemelter
8. Contagious
9. Struck Down
@@stewy62 I stand corrected. £6??? I saw them at Mcr Apollo. 2400 seats and 2 bands at their peak.
YES!!!
Love these guys
I grew up in Northern CA and they were THE hard rock band. The first 5 albums are hard to beat. I don’t have the others except Facemelter (which I really like. The song Blind Patriot has a great chorus). I have a couple live releases as well. I need to search out the other CD’s I am missing.
So of the ones I have I will go
1 Black Tiger
2 Earthshaker
3 Struckdown (not as good as the others but I still love it for the nostalgia I have for it)
4) Meanstreak
5) Facemelter
6) Yesterday & Today
Again, I need to search out the rest.
