Whenever I'd complain about the cold my Pop would tell me that the heat is in the work, and he'd send me out to cut and split wood. Cut enough wood until you think you have enough and then cut as much as you did the first go around. Then keep quiet about being cold again. Ha, Ha, Ha. Thanks for bringing back fond memories from my good old days.

Tip: a metal pail filled with rocks set on your stove can be a great source of continued heat long after the fire goes out , on cold nights can be placed under the bed to warm it .. ( heat outside the first few times as heated rocks can explode do not use river or creek rocks )

Hey bud , not one to dive into your business , noticed you bearing down on your bow saw , a no-no from experience . Saw one handed and let the weight move your saw down the log . Putting weight on your saw will not only dull it quicker but will also warp your saw blade rendering it pretty much useless . Grew up using a bow saw to saw all our wood ( up to 8 cords a winter ) and if we were careful we could cut 2 cords of wood per saw blade . Just saying ....
I have no problem taking advice from someone who has experience like yourself. Normally I don't push down on a saw that hard, I guess I was getting cold. Thank you for your feedback 🍻👍💛✌🙏

I am a sociable person but I do like my own company and never feel lonely, this would be an ideal vacation for me. With plenty of wood, hot tea and a good book of course. I've actually done -30 (it was probably colder than that but had no way of measuring since our primitive thermometer didn't go that low) in a tent with another person for one night. That was in my younger days. We were well equipped and survived ok but I never did it again. There was no fire
You can use a metal bucket and a Coleman lantern for heat. Put the lantern in the bucket and then on top of a heating pad. The lantern heats the bucket and the bucket radiates heat. It got us through a freezing night in Canada in an unheated camper van one fall. Maybe not for extreme cold but did fine at about 25 -30 degrees F.
If you ever want a “Gourmet” beverage to warm you up in the cold. Brew 1 liter of strong black tea with a cinnamon stick,a couple whole cloves and 2 spoons of honey. Once it’s brewed add 3 shots of rum(preferably Stroh 80 proof).

When using a wood stove I've found that a vent from outside to the stove's draft reduces the amount of cold air sucked in through cracks etc and the room heats evenly.

Thank you very much. Good question- I wear extra reflective gear to make sure I'm seen. Hunters or poachers will sometimes shoot at anything big and dark moving through the forest. 🙏👍✌🍻

It certainly doesn't look like you got very warm in there with this little stove. Before you were getting ready to go to bed, we could still see your breath! Obviously you wouldn't freeze to death, but you couldn't be very comfortable!

Thanks for the response I thought it was either chicken necks or some type of pork. Sharing something interesting with you, I visit my sister in Calgary Alberta Canada in 1989 and it was -45 degrees below zero and my sister told me not to breathe the air directly which I did and it felt like needles in my lungs lol 😮☺️. I experienced single-digit temperatures before in Dallas where I grew up but Calgary weather absolutely shocked me. Again thank you for a very enjoyable and realistic video 🙏. Looks freezing in that cabin you need to insulate it that fire heater wood stove should heat a room twice the size but it was that cold in there you could see your breath I dread to think how cold it must be during the night

You can use old pieces of fire hose on the edges of your door and door frame. It works awesome. And is a great insulator.

@@Thelonelyscavenger Yeah, I seen it was home made. 11 yrs., I would be looking for another cabinet of the same gage metal, and get a new one built. This time you can do, what you may have wished to do, after you put it in and used it a few times. If there was any !
I found that keeping a damp rag and cleaning the blade periodically allows the saw to cut easier.

It can get to +23 Celcius if I keep the door closed for a long time.

Wouldn't the cabin get warmer if you had an insulated pipe from the outside to feed the stove intake?
It would help draw in fresh air instead of using the air in the cabin. I had considered that but now I have a bigger stove

It certainly doesn't look like you got very warm in there with this little stove. Before you were getting ready to go to bed, we could still see your breath! Obviously you wouldn't freeze to death, but you couldn't be very comfortable!

Thanks for the response I thought it was either chicken necks or some type of pork. Sharing something interesting with you, I visit my sister in Calgary Alberta Canada in 1989 and it was -45 degrees below zero and my sister told me not to breathe the air directly which I did and it felt like needles in my lungs lol 😮☺️. I experienced single-digit temperatures before in Dallas where I grew up but Calgary weather absolutely shocked me. Again thank you for a very enjoyable and realistic video 🙏. That's a good question. I don't normally split wood inside except when it's really cold. But yes it probably would annoy the weasel. Thanks for the question 🙂✌️

Next time you build a sled use old skis for runners, I built one and put a 2ft by 6ft box on it. was very easy to pull.

Looks freezing in that cabin you need to insulate it that fire heater wood stove should heat a room twice the size but it was that cold in there you could see your breath I dread to think how cold it must be during the night
Its quite comfortable in my cabin. I am going in and out through the day which will cool it off. When I stay overnight the door stays closed.
