MASSIVE Tidepool EELS w/ FISHERMAN'S LIFE! Catch & Cook

- I'm back folks...and I am a doctor! After nearly a year of hiatus I have earned my PhD in archaeology! Just because I was gone does not mean Diane and I did not adventure and film though. Get ready for a whole lot of footage and fun!
I have been leading workshops on stone tool making, bone tool making, friction fire, shell ornament making (using all stone tools), and wild plant and mushroom walks for years. That's why I think guiding some coastal foraging, crabbing, and fishing would be so much fun! However, a guides license is not free, so I think I will lead a few stone tool making workshops, ethnobotany walks, and friction fire making workshops first to generate the capital for the guide license. If you are in the Bay Area and interested in attending, please send me an email at catchncookca@gmail and we can set some dates! Stoked to be back!
Remember, this comeback video was filmed last month when bivalve shellfish were not in quarantine. They are (May) currently in quarantine and should not be consumed at the moment. Call the Biotoxin Information Hotline for a weekly updated pre-recorded message on what areas are safe to consume crab, lobster, mussels, clams, and scallops. 800 553 4133

Hello all! My guide service is up an running! I am still formalizing the website, but have been already taking clients out intertidal foraging. Yesterday my client had two massive eels and ten legal rock crabs in two hours! email me at catchncookca@gmail to get on the calendar! Low tides are booking up quickly! Hope to meet you soon and get you on some good wild foods and/or teach you some survival skills (stone tool making, friction fire, bow and arrow making, etc.). - Cheers, Kevin
"im back baby!" -Kevin!!!
ohhh mannn
If you start guiding, I would 100% want be a customer
Me too!
Same here!
Same! I've always wanted to go do this kind of thing but I don't know where to start
I'm out of Santa Rosa and would pay for this as well
I'm also in norcal and will totally pay for this.
The two of you make a good combination. Hopefully we see more collaborations
You're an absolute legend, Kevin! Please keep posting - the mix of fishing and foraging is so informative and your easy-going vibes are the ideal match for the content. So glad I found the channel!
Thank you so much Daniel!
Glad you're back brother! Now let's get to learning our land.
I am so glad you are back! Congratulations on your PhD! I also think your guiding idea is a great idea. I was just thinking you would be great at it while you were going around explaining the plants prior to mentioning it.
Thanks!
Lilburtney, I've had a flood of recent emails reserving spots and requesting guiding so I'm not sure if you were one of them, but in case you were not, I am now an official guide! I am currently taking individuals and groups out for coastal foraging, freedive spearfishing, edible plants, mushrooms, survival skills, etc. I'm still setting up the website, but in the meantime if you want to book something, my email is catchncookca@gmail. -Cheers, Kevin
thank god ! I missed you soo much Kevin and Diane, so happy to have you back... I live in Pa. I'm 70 yo and live alone so you tube is what I watch and missed your videos ...please keep them comming and Congrats on your accomplishment 'DR. KEVIN' LOL BE SAFE AND BE WELL
So happy to see you out and about again. Keep those old ways alive. You do our county proud!
"Nature's toilet paper " that's so evil 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Subscribed after watching you from Matt's video, and waited for this upload ever since. Looking forward to all your future uploads. Congratulations on finishing your dissertation, that stuff is HARD!
Welcome back, Dr. Kev! Great video. I hiked past probably half a mile of thimbleberry the other day and had no idea the leaves were good for anything. Time to go back!
A few minor corrections for the viewers:
• Wild radish is Raphanus sativus (not A. triquetrum)
• Nasturtium is Tropaeolum majus (not U. dioica)
Thanks for catching them. My software crashed in the process so I guess those species names got re arranges somehow. A. triquetrum is the three-corned leek, and U. dioica id stinging nettle. Cheers!
had a good laugh at the OG ugly stik lmao
Until next time keep old faith alive. Miss you Kevin

However if I lived there and was physically able (which I’m not) I would be out there in a heartbeat. Thankyou for thinking of me. I wish you every success Kevin. Michelle
I found your channel a while back and was so disappointed that you weren't uploading, glad to see you back.
Finally! Been patiently waiting for your uploads. You bring an engaging perspective to an otherwise common subject. I'd book a trip with you if you opt to do the guide thing.

Congrats on your doctorate! And welcome back, missed your videos!
Goom morning !!! Full watched !! Have a great day !! See you around !
Stumbled on your channel during your hiatus and was kinda sad you stopped. Glad you’re putting out more content!
Oh yeah, doing the guiding is something you will make a hell of a killing at too, and do so damn well with, helping so many people quickly learn while having fun rather than just the usual books & tests. Anywhere here on the west coast is also the perfect location to do so too, since there is so many people here, including many of us who'd absolutely seize any opportunity we'd get to go on a guided trip or a few with you.
I never expected to see Nasturtiums just having at it in the wild like that either, nor did I realize it was edible. I know the three cornered leek is most often here in Oregon known as Wild Onion. We've always known of Miner's Lettuce up here too, however I've recently heard more younger people call it something else, but I don't recall what that was. I never knew that Pineapple Weed was Chamomile. That's incredible. I also never knew that fir/fern hybrid looking plant was Yarrow! Wild to find that out. It's so soft to pet too! haha.
The fun part for me is when I happen to bushwhack or even just skitter through understory anywhere, I only pay attention to where I am going, my surroundings in regards to bearings and then if each place I step is safe to do so. That means I push right through, into, under and over plants like Poison Oak and Stinging Nettle. It's bearable for me despite it being also a annoyance, but the only real plants I watch out for and avoid going through unless I have no choice are the thorn bushes. Berries are like barbwire to cattle for me.
Trippin' Outdoors, I've had a flood of recent emails reserving spots and requesting guiding so I'm not sure if you were one of them, but in case you were not, I am now an official guide! Thanks!
Wow! A long time waiting for more episode and more learning from you. Welcome back!!
Creative editing ..or just how it turned out- not even 2 minutes in and huge Monkeyfaced eel! Love it that instant satisfaction. Never wait with these "fish" instantly put in bag or stringer, then think about hook get it now or after gutting either way bag it first, as Fishermans life showed they toss that hook fast.. lost to many that way.
That was just how it was. I happened to try a good spot first and landed that one within the first few minutes. Matts got the biggest of the day though a little later. A great day!
Good to see you back Kev. Definitely think you should start guiding.
Amazing video Kev! looking forward to so much more.
Wooo glad you're back! Would happily take guided foraging courses from you!
Thanks! I will be in touch soon!
Been waiting for this since Fisherman's Life video.
