1. Stock exhaust (muffler, tips, and mid muffler/resonator)
2. Custom exhaust (Magnaflow Universal Muffler #14803 w/ stainless steel tips, and mid muffler/resonator delete)

Making this video was the best and worst experience. :S

-how to blur a license plate in style (cloning)
-how to use to the PiP feature
-how to compensate for processing issues with color correction
Worst:
I dropped my MBP off the TOP my car when I was shooting the second set of footage. :( WEAKKK!
I wasn't recording for half the footage I thought I was shooting.
Neighbors called the feds because apparently driving up and down a street looks "suspicious."
All in All: MPB received a few scratches.. Law enforcement is now jealous of my sweet exhaust note.. And, I'm pretty proud of the final product. Not to shabb.

Thanks for your response. The 2.5l Jetta does have 2.25" pipes, and I just put the 14805 magnaflow on mine. Sounds great. It's a little dronie between 2500-3000 RPMs, but otherwise sounds super exotic.
@MikeGallis No resonator here, the mid-muffler/resonator was replaced with straight piping. The guy at the shop said that the exhaust note was not really altered by simply adding the Magnaflow Muffler. So, he deleted the resonator to get the note I was looking for. :)
Not a dumb question, to me at least. I'm not even certain. I just had some guys at a local exhaust shop hook me up. But, from my understanding, all they used was some straight piping to replace the mid-muffler/resonator and the actual muffler (I used the Magnaflow Universal Muffler #14803).
For my jetta all i did was cut off the 2 muffler boxes and straight pipe it. the tone is really good and changes at 3k revolutions, but as the guy in the video said. you have to talk over the sound. This was one of the better videos ive seen of jettas with exhausts.

This set up replaced the stock muffler and exhaust tips with the Magnaflow muffler. And, to really get a change in exhaust note, I had to remove the mid-muffler/resonator and replace it with straight piping.
Sounds great but for the 2.5 I would recommend AWE Tuning

The exhaust sound is pretty dominant in the cabin while cruising. On the highway, 65-70 mph, you'll maintain significant drone, though not intolerable. But, you do have to somewhat talk "over" it.
I hit up a local auto shop and they had it in stock. I'm sure if you google "Magnaflow Universal Muffler #14803" you find some sites that sell it.
That's a good question! Unfortunately, I'm not extremely well-versed with the technical aspects of exhaust system modification. I simply had a local shop hook it up. Perhaps, an adapter was used, I'm not certain. Sorry! Ask a shop; they'll know how it works!
deleting the resonator is what really give you a different exhaust note. otherwise, the difference is almost undetectable, with just a muffler swap. I got it done for $250-275.

As far as which mod may boost power more, I'm not entirely sure.. It's my understanding that unless you get a full custom exhaust system, you won't see any significant horsepower gains.. like my setup is: the removal of the mid-muffler/resonator [replaced with straight piping], and removal of the rearmost muffler + tips [replaced with magnaflow muffler and tips].. and with this mod, I only shaved a tenth off my 0-60.. which could easily have been a fluke.
@jjohnkane Thanks, man! Since this video, I have upgraded the low-beams to HIDs, and have purchased a light tint film for the headlamp lenses (which I hope to install tomorrow).. Soon, I'll create a flickr album to keep people updated..

I would get that error code all the time with the HID lights I had installed (and, they would actually shut off). But, once I got the DRL feature removed on the car's computer and installed a Euro Light switch, I stopped having that problem.
Only the muffler was changed. And, the only thing I did to the rest of the exhaust system was remove the mid-muffler/resonator and replace it with straight piping.
the 2006 does. I have the 08 and depending on the website you go to, I get anywhere from 170-185 hp.

Hey, I ended up returning to stock after a year because my parents thought it was a disturbance to our subdivision; you could hear it from the house as soon as I entered the neighborhood. I loved the sound, it definitely optimizes the exhaust note of the Jetta's unique straight 5 cylinder. My only grievance was that it had a fair amount of highway drone. You had to talk over it, somewhat.
+Austen Vail The sound that makes me sick is a Honda with a fart can. If I had a nickel for each one I have ever seen I would go buy a brand new Audi A8 with that cash!!

@Imamonkee108 so, I really don't know, man.. the intake will def. boost some power, but I don't know which exhaust mod will complement it better. I'm certain the magnaflow muffler will def. enhance the exhaust note, though! :D
I am just now realizing (years later) that when I did the 0-60 test/cabin sound, that I was by no means on a flat straight-away. So much for the scientific method. LOL!
So all you did was put a MF 14803 on it and that's it?

@radrohit5 Yea the intake does a so-so job, but im looking for a more fluid flow, if you get what i mean. Muffler will probably do some since the stock one "wines." I may just settle for a full on exhaust with a bolt on cat, who knows, im still keeping my options open (on a budget ahah).

I have a 05 2.5 jetta, and i run a 7.9 0-60 basically stock. Just a muffler and a air-filter. I thought 2006 2.5 had more HP
I've been looking for a turbo for my 2.5L VW Jetta (2010). I don't wanna go with a c2 stage 2 turbo, but a turbo kit I've pieced together on my own. Are there any tuning devices for this model?

Right, which never made sense since the 150hp newer 4cylinders do it in 8.4 seconds. 20hp = .1 second?

So that Magnaflow muffler has 2.25" inpipe diameter. Does that mean the 2.5 Jetta has 2.25" exhaust piping throughout? I'm looking to do the same with my '08 2.5L Jetta which I thought had 2.5" pipes, but now I'm not sure and can't find an answer to...
I was pretty sure the 2006 2.5 had 150hp stock.

I'm looking at a magnaflow exhuast for my 2.5, but the only results i'm finding are catback systems with single port exhausts...most of the videos on here have two port exhausts like yours. does anyone know if it makes a difference? This sound is pretty much what i'm hoping to achieve, going to take the resonator out once it's all done

I didn't have it installed for more than several months, but I never got a noise complaint/violation. I also live in a small town in Georgia, so I'm not sure how much that factors into it.

That's a great question, man! I'm sure there will be some difference between the exhaust notes of the two engines, but I can't definitively tell you how exactly it would sound.
do you have any resonators on this or just straight pipe?
would this sound the same or similar to the 14815 model? It looks basically the same except the tips are different so I'm not sure if that would effect the sound or not, or if the mufflers themselves are different or whatever
I'm not certain. But, as long as the muffler construction/design is the same the exhaust note should remain unchanged.

When I had it installed, the mechanic said the muffler swap alone did not do much to enhance the sound, or change it at all for that matter. So, it sounded like a resonator delete was key to make a real difference in the exhaust note.
