Thank you Hilary. I love this, and your clear and patient teaching skills make it such a pleasure to learn. I have been avoiding any of these capoed tunes for a time now... and then our friend Jack Hannigan reminded to use a pen top for the high key. I kept breaking strings tuning it up to A. Anyhows, I am using a key, and it's great :) Off to practice now. Thanks again.
Thanks Hillary for all your dedicated banjo lessons over the years, you have been a wonderful resource. This tune was one I wanted to learn, will miss you on this UA-cam , will check out your new videos for further lessons. Again thank you
Hi Hilarie, Thanks for this. I am thinking becoming a Patreon subscriber, but I am wondering if you also have tab available for your tunes? My mind works better with duplicate types of instruction. :)
You're so welcome! I'm leaving the old ones up on UA-cam, but if you want to access the new ones (and other helpful stuff) my Patreon costs $4/month and is here: www.patreon.com/hilarieburhans :-)
thanks for this lesson, you play in such a mellow, gentle way! I don't know if you take any request, but should one day s lesson for Hills of Mexico (Mexican Cowboy) appear here, it would make my month! All the best, take care
Again nice job. Would you tell us sometime about your banjo that you use for this tune and others. How do you get that wonderful "plunky" sound. Love the lesson!
Richard Bernier The “Plucky “ sound you hear is called The cluck. She uses it a lot. There are videos on you tube describing the technique. Basically, you mute the picked string immediately after striking it with the following finger.
Richard Bernier Good one. I was intrigued too! My best guess is to create a softer sound? .. I know she stuffs a piece of foam under the pot where it meets the neck for this purpose.
@@MrHacienda1 It is a bit of foam. It just mutes some of the overtones. There's a little piece of tape on the bridge, too, that you probably can't see. As for the banjo itself, check it out here: hilarieburhans.com/my-banjos-and-gear/4594741076 Thanks!
I like how you told the story of the brave squirrel hunters, and how you played this nice-sounding tune.
thank you, Ethan! I live only a couple of hours away from Cincinnati and hadn't actually heard that story before I read it on an Ohio history website.
