People say the white tanks collect algae. You can paint them black. Black plastic will last about 2 years. I have water, but i still want to collect more. But I will build a small room on the corner, put tanks inside, put filters on the back wall of the house.
Meta roofs are bad too. The rain doesnt clean my roofs off. I see a greasy silt or oily film in the rain barrell. They are old roofs, but they still shed this rainbow film. I don't ever plan to drink it.

algae growth is a thing..might consider paint the totes or covering them with contractor's black plastic
dig a systern, it's work but "well" worth it ✌️
If would have them underground you could keep them from freezing easier. Plus, you wouldn't have those tanks so visible...

I've tried to catch rain water, I get tired and the neighbors think something is wrong with me
Actually, collecting water off of a shingle roof is no good because of the chemicals in shingles, I've seen drip lines eat through bushes...
