The statue of Robbie Burns was a movement in the mid 19th century that hoped and worked for the idea that all cities in the British Empire, did have a statue of Burns. The one in Sydney was formed by a group that used to meet on the 4th floor of the Gowings Building [Market and George Sts], and originally was to grace the Royal Botanic Gardens, but now stands next to the entrance to The Domain.
11.13 - Tony's standing outside 163b Palmer st. Where I once lived in 1979 and across the road from the squats where our Punk band used to rehearse for our gigs at Frenches up Oxford st.... chortle . .
I know this is nitpicking and I might also be wrong, but the address on Palmer St where Tilly Devine lived is technically in Darlinghurst, south of Woolloomooloo. A longer doco that covers Darlinghurst and the suburb south of it, Surry Hills, would be even better. Plenty of good tales from the Razor gangs era in those suburbs as well. And also Balmain, west of the City. Lots of old pubs and notorious crims who around lived there back in the day too.
When I was a kid in the 60s I used to go to the North Sydney Pool for swimming competitions, often at night. It was bloody cold, and obviously still is. We deliberately lost races so that we could go home.
My grandmother told me she once spent a night in the cells with Tilly Divine when she (gran) was a teenager. My gran and some other girls had been arrested at a union protest. Apparently when Tilly found out they were in on their first arrest, and what it was for, she was really nice to them and made sure their night in the cells was less unpleasant than it otherwise might have been.
Dunno if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the new series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf lately :)
So are pubs ! And he’s in them all the time , Harry’s is an iconic, probably the most iconic place in the area , in all the tourist guides and featured in countless documentaries.
Were the people whom Tony come up to so casually throughout the video aware that they would appear in a documentary? Some of them even let him come in willingly.
It's all about interpretation, isn't it? I just watched that moment (and now I am scrolling through the comments while an ad plays), and I saw it differently. Tourists being forced out of the way by a loud Englishman waving his arms about.
Young sir,” ’e sez. “You, too, in sheer amaze Look upon this, and hark to other days, An’ dream of this fair city’s early start, In which (’e bows) I played my ’umble part - My ’umble part - a flagpole an’ a tent.” “Come orf!” sez I. “You was a fine ole gent. Reel nob. I’ve read about the things you did. You picked some site.” (’E bows. I dips me lid).
❤️ love the way you involve complete strangers to assist in the tales you are telling!❤️
Seems to to always use whites. Should use some native abos too :)
Thank you for your positive energy going towards your fans. I like your work of a Great historian.

The dog at 8:29 is very interested in the proceedings! LOL.
14:13 - Classic old Australian pub, with tiles inside and out - made it easier to keep clean, but unfortunately made it look like a toilet.
I remember drinking beer in that toilet in the 1980s...
Lived around there in the 70 s añd 80s.

You are easily my favourite Pom, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.
I think we can start calling you "Aussie Tony"
cheers! mate.
We used to see the Eternity on the pavements when we were young.

Crawl vs Side Stroke - It's almost as if no one had worked out that you could actually run instead of skipping.

Roger Rogerson as a Darlinghurst Dectective use to run protection for heroin dealing in the Tradesman’s Arms back in the 80’s
Ironically the houses they saved for cheap hosing are now worth millions.

I visited there in 1988...any old friend there?
Got some weird town names over there. Bunch of O’s in them
A tourist once quipped... "yes, I know how to spell Wooloomooloo...I just don't when to stop."
Why no Harry's cafe de wheels ?
It could be seen to be promoting a business, so ABC/BBC wouldn't play or would edit out.

At 3 in the morning with a belly full of ale it is a place of wonder and fulfilment.
Tassie, the best place on earth..
I agree 💯 Pete from Devonport

I'm sure all the 'casually walking up to people' is planned well in advance.
