That was absolutely fantastic Tony. I'm a second generation Townsvillian, meaning I lived here between 1984 to 1994 and because this place has always been in my heart moved back in a failed attempt in 99 and now a successful attempt 20 years later. I own my own place and semi-retired. You showcased and researched a small pocket of Townsville and your presentation was absolutely wonderful. Thank you. This place is a great place. I hope this vid gets 100,000 more views because you sold the town to me and I live here. Well done :)
As someone whose forebears lived in Townsville, and who now lives in Castle Hill New South Wales, right next to the suburb of Blacktown, this is all a bit trippy. So glad he's been through there and gets to talk about it.
Trivia: During the war, I believe it was Douglas MacArthur who suggested using the rock from Castle Hill to create a stone bridge/causeway from Townsville to Magnetic Island. His reasoning was that his troops in Townsville were idle and needed some exercise. This may or may not be an Urban Myth.
The figure on 'Castle Hill', was called the 'Saint', according to my Grandparents. As they were visiting Townsville , during the early to mid 1960s. The original Artist , would have to been in his 80s.
a little slight of hand here. JCU came into being in 1970 and the painted stick man (the saint from the 60's British TV show was already long there. It was there when we moved to Townsville in 1965. But it was the college students that painted it from the institution that I guess did become JCU that painted the Saint. If this gentleman did it post 1970 then it was a makeover of the original.
Made me homesick, great work😁
Stumbled upon your videos, "its alright, just talking to myself, I'm not mad" so many chuckles. Great series Tony!
I agree Bridie
Wow when did he come to Townsville?! I would have ran out the door to get his autograph.

I feel like you do this far better than an Aussie. Stay here Tony. Forever.
There's already a Blacktown in Australia.
Yeah I live there!
What you might call " a cunning plan" I lost it with that line. 🤣🤣🤣
Had to have a smile when Tony mentioned the 'cunning plan'. I wonder how many people know the significance of it to him. 😄😂

I'm a middle age Townsville local and the story of the Uni Student's painting the Saint originally in the 60's, is true. He told you he did it 😏

22:24 "CUNNING PLAN"
I'd have called it Chazwazza.
A lot of the weird place names in Australia are indigenous names.
yep another town visitied,,, another beer gulped down... what an aussie.
This city used to be nice and welcoming but now its turned into somewhat of a warzone with all the crime
Townsville, so bogan even the hills have tattoo's...
Your not alone in the name change, my friend who lives there wants it changed too
Would be a great place but for a certain demographic
I wish he wouldn't fake all the audience and randoms in the street, if he didnt do that then his show would be alright.
I really don't know why your'e bothering either, Tony. What's your game? I can't see it.
