I think it’s a huge congrats to Pete Howlett. When a large brand such as Kala, recognise the skills of an innovator and are willing to embrace the design, enough to be taught by the master luthier designer himself . It’s worthy of a documentary. Kala are in a place to be able to bring the instrument to the 4 corners of the Ukulele globe. Gladdens my heart. Well done to all involved. Thanks Alex for show casing. Have a great week.

I just got one delivered from Kala today. Beautiful to look at. Light, with a slim profile. Easy to play. Crazy long sustain. And really surprisingly loud. Pretty much perfect.

A friend in my uke group has one of these, and I got to play it a few weeks ago. It’s a sweet instrument! Sadly, I had to give it back.

I tried some of these at GNUF a couple of weeks ago.
    BLOWN
    A
    WAY!!!
Everything you say is true, but you forgot to mention how tactile they are, it's like holding a piece of sculpture. Pete was there, and I had the honour of talking to him. He said he had designed them for a woman's physique, and I can confirm that they are very comfortable to hold, and fit me beautifully. I wish I hadn't had to give it back...

I think I would love this in a concert. Gives me something to aspire to. I have to keep practicing. It really is awesome!

As beautiful as it is, I'd struggle to pay this price for a Kala, a Pete Howlett absolutely I would (and have) - I have owned a Kala and it was lovely, but always saw it as a stepping stone instrument, before getting something special. Hope they do sell well as Pete has done so much for the ukulele scene.

@catburn3 - An instrument is what it is, and should be judged on its merits: how well is it built, what type of materials are used, how does it sound, rather than your preconceived ideas about the brand Kala.
It is this type of brand snobbery that allows Martin to charge thousands for a soprano uke that isn't any better than instruments a quarter of the price.

Personally, love the unique tone, not crazy about the looks . . .

My man playing it in the intro looks like he’s gonna to plug it into a 5150 and chugga chugga

What are the strings used for the two wound strings?
Edit1: Oh they are listed in the SUS website as "D'Addario wound C and G strings", any idea of their gauges?
Edit2: OK I found out the D'Addario NYL019w 0.19" wound C string also from the SUS website haha.

Just for your reference I measured that string with a caliper and it's actually much heavier. More like an NYL025W. I recommend this or an aluminium wound C for best results

    It sounds a bit twangy.

Exactly! It made me think of a cross between banjo and guitar.

Are wound strings required? I can’t stand that squeak of metal strings. If it can be all carbon strings I’d be so happy!

It's a shame there will never be a left-handed version.

You don't know that... Pete was willing to make me a lefty version once upon a time but it didn't happen. It is entirely possible and they are made to order.
Would you like me to enquire? 🙂

@@SouthernUkuleleStore Ah, I was told by someone that Kala wouldn't be making one. Yeah, maybe Pete would. I better not ask until I'm ready with the cash in hand, but thanks!

Pete won't be making any more Revelators... I wasn't suggesting asking him. But Kala are pretty game to play around with different woods so maybe a lefty

  • @diegoasalinas

Do play lefty therefore all the chords are upside down.

    • @SouthernUkuleleStore
      @SouthernUkuleleStore  Рік тому +2

Is that a question? Sorry, I can't quite tell.
Yes I am left handed, yes that portion of the sound samples in this video was played upside down

@SouthernUkuleleStore Apologies for the grammar. I'm a lefty, too. I'm new to the ukulele, and your way of playing caught my curiosity. Your knowledge you share is great and much appreciated. Thanks

All good. If you want to see me play natural lefty - check out my @ukeswithalex channel. Good luck on your journey fellow lefty 😆
