I've been traveling into and out of LAX for years (since 1991) and IMHO LAX is the biggest building site I know that has its own airport. Every time I go there I am confronted by a massive population of diversions, Jersey barriers and building sites that never seem to have anyone working on them. The diversions also constantly change from trip to trip so that, when you thought you knew your way to a particular car rental company or long-term car park, on the next trip you are on a "magical mystery tour" trying to locate it taking into account the latest set of diversions and your rental car's NAV system not being updated accordingly.
I've lived in the LA area for over twenty years and have only used LAX once, and now avoid the airport like the plague. Other local smaller airports like Burbank, Ontario, Orange County, and even Santa Barbara are a joy to use in comparison. I'd like to make sure that anyone from another country visiting LA for the 28 Olympics to know that you can fly internationally into another big city like San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, and even Dallas and take a connecting flight into these smaller LA area airports and your travel experience will be a whole lot better than flying directly into LAX !
It's been a long time since your one experience of LAX, I'm guessing. It's NOT like it was in the early 2000s or the 2010s or even in the early 2020s. Many of the works projects have been completed, and have actually made a huge difference to how the airport is. Yes, there's still work to be done, but it's really no worse now than most other busy airports worldwide.
A lot of that is going to have to do with cost though. People flying internationally are generally not going to spend hundreds maybe $1,000 more to fly into Burbank just to have a more pleasant experience.
@@chrome_vlogs Yeah, sure. Moved here in 1953. You do you. Know your LA history before you comment. There is still no Metro rail connection directly into the terminal area. So, at best, you will have a "people mover" to get you to Metro. Good luck with that. World class airports have seamless trans-modal transportation not horrible kludges like LAX.
I live in south Orange County, to go to LAX I take the train to L.A. Union Station, then the FlyAway bus to LAX. Stroll into the check in area, stroll toand through security, stroll to my gate and chill. The real hassle is coming back from outside the USA and going through customs. It is far better than it once was. Then FlyAway bus to Union Station, then the train home. It would be great to have Amtrak and MetroLink service the airport directly, like they do everywhere else in the world. Although I have chatted with some interesting people on the bus. The other issue is AeroMexico (international) you have to go NOT to the international terminal, but Terminal 2, then back to the International Terminal for security and to wait for the flight.
that last time I had to pick someone up at LAX it took over an hour to drive the last mile. It may handle 75 million passengers, but it was made to handle 25 million. Perhaps the people mover will help.
Reducing traffic in LAX is easy. Enforce a $500 fine and tow for anyone parked picking up/dropping off. 90% of the traffic is a result of people parked in the middle of the road waiting to pick someone off.
In Anchorage, Alaska they have a parking lot about a mile from the airport that you can park for free while you wait for your party to call when they are ready to be picked up. In the summer the float planes take off right by the parking lot.
@@Chris_at_Home Most airports have a waitng area like this. LAX calls is the cell phone waiting area. No one uses it. You'll see people parked right in the middle of the cross walk waiting for whoever to get their baggage.
I have high hopes for the future of LAX. Lot of pessimists in the comments but at least LAWA is doing something / anything to improve the current operation. That being said, terminal 9 and concourse 0 have been scrapped until after the Olympics because they won't be able to finish them in time.
