  • From the moment you first lay your eyes on Cathedral Caverns' huge entrance, which measures 126ft wide and 25ft high, you know that you're in for a treat.
The cave features Goliath, one of the largest stalagmites in the world, measuring 45ft tall and 243ft in circumference. In 1953, Jay Gourley began exploring the cave and soon after opened it as a tourist attraction for people around the world to see.
Gourley adopted the name "Cathedral Caverns" after his wife's first visit to the cave, where she said the beautiful formations of stalactites and stalagmites made it look like a cathedral.
When you first enter Cathedral Caverns, you can see and hear Mystery River, which flows the entirety of the cave. The cave stays around 60 degrees year round and stretches over 2 miles long with all of its paths.
So grab a light jacket and head to Woodville, AL to take a tour yourself.
