Right turn on red. Sitting in my car waiting for the traffic to clear enough for me to enter a road from 0 to attain 55, a car honks. My son said time to go mom. I replied, I’ll go when it’s safe for me. I told him if I get into an accident those people won’t visit me in the hospital. The won’t pay for my increased insurance rates. They just want me to go even if it’s not safe. Fast forward 25 yrs. My son was driving and a car blew their horn. He looked a me briefly and said, I’ll go when it’s safe. I looked at him and he said, they won’t visit me in the hospital, they could care less if I’m safe or dead. I smiled thinking, wow, he gets it. You have to judge for yourself wether something is right for you or not.
I don’t wear “real” clothes in my house. I get clearance pants/shorts(sometimes they’re actually pj’s) and wear them inside. This saves my real clothes the wear of being worn & washed so they last longer. A $4 clearance pair of pj pants is also more comfortable than a $30 pair of jeans for cooking/cleaning/paying bills/etc.

I stopped buying gifts, period. Need to fund my retirement vs. buying stuff for other people when they can easily afford to buy what they want for themselves. No gift exchanges as adults is a relief.
When I used to work, I stopped participating in gift exchanges because I was purging my life. I had stopped collecting and reduced buying. Co-workers could not understand, looked at me askance and repeatedly asked if my decision was religion-based. 😄 Even though I lived a faith-based life (and I don't think they knew that), of course, it was not based on that. Rather than give a long explanation, I simply and kindly said that I'd decided not to. I was somewhat annoyed because I felt that my refusal to join should have been enough. It was a challenge for me to not participate, but I stood my ground. I would get the shivers (and not in a good way) at the thought of having to bring home a huge, white teddy bear or one of the other useless things that they exchanged and thought were so cute. 😱That thought, alone, strengthened me! 🤣
I love your list. I have stopped attending after work dinner meetings. My time is valuable too and I don’t want to get home from work at 9 pm just to attend a sales pitch!
I quit attending lunches, at work, years ago. If the company expects me to do that, the company can pay for my lunch. But they don't do that, and the never-ending work lunches are not included in my budget. I'd rather eat my own food, at my desk, and watch youtube or read a book.
I agree with you on all 19 things. I think it has something to do with getting older, it took me 56 years to learn all of this though so you are ahead of the game.
I agree with not taking a shower everyday but alternating washing up/sponge bath. When you're at home all day and especially on the computer most of the time, it's not needed and is a waste of water. It's also a waste of time and product if you clean your shower after each use. Don't recall if you mentioned it but under these circumstances, clothes don't need to be washed after each wearing either. They're not dirty. Tossing most clothes daily in the dirty clothes bin to be washed is a waste of water, product, time, effort and unnecessary wear and tear on equipment. Thanks for your tips! I'm glad that you shared that you don't care what others think about you and your practices. 👍🏽💐 Prepper Princess shares good tips for frugal living.

I used to wash my hair twice a week since a child. Wavy hair should not be washed everyday. Nowadays I wash every 2 weeks, then I do not need any conditioner. I also cut my own hair, do not dye my hair (saves both money and exposure to chemicals) I once went to buy some products for damaged hair for my sister. The attendant at the store walked up to me and said: You do not need that, you have really healthy hair. I was stunned, that person is in the business of hair and noticed my hair from a distance away.
Hello! For me “ the best things in life aren’t things” 😊 as a minimalist, I like to admire but not to possess and the best gift I love to receive is TIME 😊🤗🤗🌷🌹🌺🌻
Same here. I love being a (cozy) minimalist, and dread when someone says “I got you something” and I know it’s going to be just taking up space in my home. Concert tickets, dinner out, a special home cooked meal, these I love and cherish memories of.
Better late than never, I quit ignoring my health. The best thing I bought recently was a Waterpik. I’m 68, and just had dental surgery ($$$). I started using a Waterpik again (after many years w/out one). I’m shocked by how much stuff brushing alone left behind. Taking care of my teeth saves money on health bills, as poor dental hygiene can lead to heart disease, among other non-mouth medical issues.
I shop mainly online now. I only shop places that offer free returns. I do shop on Amazon. Buy if I get something I am not 100% pleased with, I return it. It doesn't matter if it was only $5. It goes back.
I do wish Amazon was easier for me to return. I have to travel 20 minutes in an awkward direction to return something. It would be super nice if I could just put it in my mailbox with the flag up 😂
We have done a lot of these things over the last 5 years. We have a special needs 17 year old daughter and doing smaller, cheaper things sometimes makes sense for us too
I thought I was the only one that shampooed twice and condition once. We had to move to a smaller place in the middle of 2020 due to a change in landlord, so I have to change my showering schedule because of the way the apartment was set up. So I shower at night and every other day. I recently decided spend money on quality shoes because I am on my feet a lot at work. I had sticker shock, but I had to remind myself that it will be worth it if my feet are happy. I quit shopping as often. I used to shop for pleasure, but now I actually hate it. I stopped buying home decor. I stopped being offended or respond to haters. I look it at this way; I do not have to attend every argument I’m invited to. I stopped watching television and the news, but I do watch youtube to learn things and stay informed.
I have quit complaining my self to others and society expectations on ware I should be at this point of my life we are all different and have different paths in life.

Love your positive attitude and energy! I don’t cook every night either…plenty of lighter options or salad and leftovers. You don’t do a lot of things I don’t do. Cheers!
We quit life insurance! Every 5 years they raise premiums thinking were gonna drop dead soon, lol. Our kids are grown, house paid off, we don't need life insurance proceeds for a surviving spouse. Instead, we prepaid our funerals. Not only saving money, but relieving our kids of heartache of making these decisions once we're dead. They can simply grieve & not fret over trying to figure out 'what we would want'.
One of the best choices I have ever made was having life insurance on my child. When he died unexpectedly, I was able to take the time off that I needed to take care of myself and my living child without the pressures of working. I would strongly advise you to reconsider.
@@MaterialGirl453Life insurance is only needed to cover expenses if you can’t. None of the other posters need it b/c they can cover expenses without it.
@@dizzysdoingsThat’s unfortunate and I’m sad you are in that situation. Use your negative experience for good by advising women to know their financial situation and not rely solely on the husband taking care of it. Too many people don’t know what to do or just don’t and hurt their family unnecessarily by not providing for them should they pass away.
I shower every other day and wash my hair once a week I used to live in outback South Australia and the water was bore water full of minerals so it was bad for your hair so I only washed once a week usually on the weekend and when I went into town once a month I would have a bath and wash my hair in real water
Hi Sara, I came across your channel recently and became an instant subscriber. Love your outlook on life :) As for me, I absolutely agree with all your points, plus during the pandemic I quit hairdressers (for obvious reasons) and then decided not to go back, when it was available again. After initial horror ;) I learned to like my hair in their natural colour, as for wearing every day. And for holidays and parties, I bought myself a good quality wig, that looks always fresh and stunning, for the price of one visit into the professional hair salon #lifehack
I quit cooking every night too! I do cook extra most nights and freeze leftovers. Then on the nights I don't have energy to cook I'll heat up leftovers.
Yes, the first one buys into the fifth one for me, there's some things I won't buy online like shoes/boots/backpacks/rucksacks/water proof coats and a few more things. Used to be able to buy in person once then get replacements online but if you are buying not garbage that is years later and your item often either no longer exists or has been changed and not always for the better. Name brands are no guarantee of quality these days regardless of the inflated price so some things have to be viewed in person.
Yes! I agree!! The joy is - there are brands that will replace an item if its poor quality. You may need to spend a little more money but at least the replacement won't cost as much.
Hello, I'm a recent subscriber to your channel but have watched many of your videos already. I really love your channel and your tips! I listen to them early in the morning when I do my daily walks around my neighborhood and always look forward to them. I'm going to try to apply some of these tips, thank you! Your look is stylish too, love the glasses so I was happy to hear you have quit critiquing yourself. Cheers and stay well!
Thank you so much. I truly appreciate your kindness. From the bottom of my heart - and I hope I can help you on your journey. Thanks so much for watching!
ALDI will refund your purchase price if you try an item and don’t like it so it’s worth it to see if a store brand is good. For instance I prefer their brand “Olive Garden” salad dressing to the name brand and it’s much less. I use it on salad and in crock pot meals so $2 / bottle is a big deal.
I relate to your tip about borrowing money. We just finally pulled ourselves out of debt. Borrowing money from family, even if they aren't charging interest, is just as bad! I constantly felt like there was a rope around my neck. And even though my bil was kind enough to loan us money, he (of course) is going to want it back, and I felt that and I absolutely hated that feeling! It does ruin relationships in my opinion. Even if you pay them back.
If I cook chicken, I rarely have it the next day. I cook steak or burgers. Then use the chicken another. And so on. I love leftovers but not the same day after day. In-between you could have a no meat dinner, salad or breakfast for dinner.
What is everyone doing with all the money saved? Being spontaneously generous is the best thing sbout money saved. Giving more to charity or upgrading experiences - totally worth it.
All great tips, most of which I follow too. I do know myself well enough to know that if I lost ten pounds I wouldn't be thinking about buying an Apple watch. I would be thinking about buying a big luscious cupcake! Oops! Off topic! 🤣
Thank you Frozen Pennies! First time I came across your channel. Very simple and down to earth advice. And I work with people with special needs. Hats off to you👍❤️
We moved & had to get a new Refrigerator fast & with shortages locally we got a smaller one it's a down grade but holds enough food & helps cut back on wasting any food plus on power. We jokingly call it European sized but they have shorter small ones just like ours but bigger than a hotel or dorm room.
Recently stopped getting acrylic nails done… having to go every other week for a fill … wasting time on a day off. Spending money that is just totally wasted. Doing my own nails .. just short and neutral colors. My nails still look nice and they are healthy! I still go get a pedi about once a month.
Hi, just found you this evening and thanks for some fab tips! I've quit buying books and now go to a beautiful old library in my city. I love the architecture and the staff are so helpful and friendly and the resources are FREE! I don't have any cable or Netflix either, so I get DVD's at library for FREE to watch as well😊
Back in ‘70s I stopped buying paper towels, we use bar towels. Back in ‘80s stopped buying lunches out, we use leftovers or (break down a Costco chicken/ freeze for the week). Back ‘90 one meatless meal a week.
I shower twice a week at the gym. I have a membership and try to use what I can of it. I work 12 to 16 hours of physical work so Epsom salt baths between showers work. Not everyday but when my body is sore.
I do the same. And, I use different cards for different things. They don't give the same cash back on everything. Having more than 1 card ensures that I don't run into trouble if something happens to one, especially if I'm traveling.
@@sharonkemerer2799 I have 4, but 2 are store specific, Lowe's and TSC. I have horses and chickens, so that card has saved me a lot of money. They used to have an extra 10% off quarterly. Before I got the card, I could only get as much as I could pay for then. Once I got the card, I was able to buy extra and had an extra month to pay for it. That helped a lot. I'd save quite a bit.
Capital district in NY orders Duke's on Amazon but available in Rochester and points west like Illinois and Indiana. Walmart here did have it for a while during Pandemic.
I agree with you on most things mentioned even though I live in another country in very different conditions. What you're saying sounds like perfect common sense (which is rather hard to come by now). I was surprised to hear about the hair-washing tip though. Doesn't everyone apply the shampoo twice? It even says so on the bottle! There's even an anecdote about how adding one word "Repeate" on the bottle doubled the sales
I've already agreed with myself that I will only go out once a month. So I've put that money aside which is $30 bucks. I already am using my chicken I put away while using my food saver which has already paid for it self two fold...or three fold...😊
Showering everyday as a woman over 50 isn't a good idea anyway as our skin loses oil and becomes dry so every other or every 3 days is good, and in between days just wash the personal bits sponge bath style.
I think I agree with some things but I love how a quick shower refreshes me lol. Maybe I won't take a shower if I'm not feeling well, but I like to shower every day.
#5. Here’s another reason to stop sending checks in the mail. Last December I mailed two checks. One for $18 to a charity. My bank caught it a couple of weeks later when someone had “washed” the check, erasing everything except my signature. $18 turned into $8800. The second check was for my car insurance. I didn’t know it had been stolen until I got a notice from my insurance carrier cancelling my coverage due to non-payment. I have ALWAYS paid my bills, in full, on time (845-850 consistent credit score is proof). You also save money because cancelling a check costs $35 each time.
@@saraconklinfrozenpennies thank you. I’m very lucky, because my bank caught it before I did, and refunded the $ back to my account. I’ve seen several news stories in which banks refused to refund anything. Not good PR, guys.
I am also trying to reduce my carbon footprint, so I've started using products with less packaging. I buy shampoo and conditioner bars either at my local Friday night market or on Etsy, they last a lot longer than products that come in a plastic container. They are wrapped in paper. I am trying making my own toothpaste, body lotion and facewash with easy to find ingrediants. I don't have a difficult beauty routine, even at 62, so I use bar soap from Dollar Tree for my body and my face. I do splurge a little on face lotion, but only because I can't seem to get the mixture right and it comes out too oily.
I live on the opposite side of the country from my family, so to be able to use messenger to talk to them. That is the only time I use Facebook. If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have it.
I think that's what they are for but, sadly many people run them up just get buy for a short period of time. I was in that position a long, long time ago. Now, gratefully, I am able to do like you do. I put stuff on my 1 card that I was going to pay cash for. I then pay it off with that cash when the bill comes in. It feels wonderful!
Great video. I like what you said about the mayonnaise. I feel the same way about Heinz Simply Ketchup. The other brands were such a let down. I'll save in other areas.
I have and many others have switched from Hellman's mayonaise to Duke"s mayonaise. Not as oily but great flavor.. If you see it in your stores give it a try.
Really good video. I generally feel the sme way.. Do what's right for you. There will always be those who are critical. But I could care less. Thank you . Subbed ❤

Stopping negative self talk is so important. I used to say myself "Ugh, I am so stupid" all the time. Now, to be kinder to myself, I say "Well, I am a silly goose!" Calling myself stupid constantly wasn't good to my mental health, but saying I'm a silly goose suggests that it while I made an error or mistake, nothing is so bad that it can't be remedied.
I like this. I also think that saying the action was silly is even better. This way its not about you but the action that happened. it deflects the negative and doesnt make it persoanal. Thats what Im working on - Well that was silly... what do you think?
I used to do that too after I left a verbally abusive partner. Then I realized that I was talking to myself just like he used to talk to me. I quit doing that.

Really? Thats super interesting. I think its so much better for us!
Hi Sara, I came across your channel recently and became an instant subscriber. Love your outlook on life :)
As for me, I absolutely agree with all your points, plus during the pandemic I quit hairdressers (for obvious reasons) and then decided not to go back, when it was available again.
After initial horror ;) I learned to like my hair in their natural colour, as for wearing every day. And for holidays and parties, I bought myself a good quality wig, that looks always fresh and stunning, for the price of one visit into the professional hair salon #lifehack
Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate your support. And a wig! What a super fun idea! i think its a great idea!
I quit cooking every night too! I do cook extra most nights and freeze leftovers. Then on the nights I don't have energy to cook I'll heat up leftovers.
Yes!! Here’s to the people that quit cooking!!! 😂
When buying clothes, I do quality & comfort. Hair style is wash & wear.
I'm with you for so many of those things :)
I truly appreciate that. Thanks so much for watching!
That’s 200% true on washing your hair twice! That’s why the second time there’s an easier lather because less grime after the first wash. ❤
YES! That's it! I couldn't remember why there were more suds!
I love your outlook on life.
Thanks so much. I'm a work in progress - thanks for watching!
Oops! Off topic! 🤣
LOL!!! I don't have to lose 10 pounds to think about cupcakes! You made me laugh out loud! Thanks for watching!
😄
Hello🌻
You have some healthy looking 🪴 surrounding you in the background ❤
Thanks! I've grown to really love plants in the last 5 years. They fill our home with life!
Thank you Frozen Pennies! First time I came across your channel. Very simple and down to earth advice. And I work with people with special needs. Hats off to you👍❤️
Thanks so very much and thanks for watching. Our boy is pretty special ❤
I enjoy watching fugual videos and talk shows
We moved & had to get a new Refrigerator fast & with shortages locally we got a smaller one it's a down grade but holds enough food & helps cut back on wasting any food plus on power. We jokingly call it European sized but they have shorter small ones just like ours but bigger than a hotel or dorm room.
I know people who have done that on purpose. We have two refrigerators! LOL!
I just found you and love watching. So helpful and honest makes it fun to save money
Thanks so much. I appreciate you and thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the wonderful tips
Recently stopped getting acrylic nails done… having to go every other week for a fill … wasting time on a day off. Spending money that is just totally wasted. Doing my own nails .. just short and neutral colors. My nails still look nice and they are healthy! I still go get a pedi about once a month.
Pedicures are my one true self care splurge. But its more about the foot rub than anything else! I totally get it!
You have some Excellent tips 🌟Thank You so much
So nice of you! Thanks fro watching!
Hi, just found you this evening and thanks for some fab tips!
I've quit buying books and now go to a beautiful old library in my city. I love the architecture and the staff are so helpful and friendly and the resources are FREE! I don't have any cable or Netflix either, so I get DVD's at library for FREE to watch as well😊
I recommend Brant Hansen’s “Unoffendable” to go along with #9 and Gary Chapman’s “The Five Love Languages” for number #13.
Back in ‘70s I stopped buying paper towels, we use bar towels. Back in ‘80s stopped buying lunches out, we use leftovers or (break down a Costco chicken/ freeze for the week). Back ‘90 one meatless meal a week.
Love this 😂 Thanks for watching!
I shower every other day
I am 85. I quit being afraid of telling people “I can’t afford something”. I
I shower twice a week at the gym. I have a membership and try to use what I can of it. I work 12 to 16 hours of physical work so Epsom salt baths between showers work. Not everyday but when my body is sore.
We use cash back credit cards. We put everything we can on them. But we pay them in full every month. This is only good if you are disciplined .
My best friend does this. She LOVES to travel so she uses her points for that.
I do the same. And, I use different cards for different things. They don't give the same cash back on everything.
Having more than 1 card ensures that I don't run into trouble if something happens to one, especially if I'm traveling.
@@dizzysdoings yes I have three different cash back cards.
Thank you so much for this , it was the uplifting , inspiring advice I needed today . Best 15 mins of neighbourly like advice I have had all week :-))
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Wow! That was 15 mins long? Seemed much faster!
Capital district in NY orders Duke's on Amazon but available in Rochester and points west like Illinois and Indiana.
Walmart here did have it for a while during Pandemic.
Thanks Sara 😊
I agree with you on most things mentioned even though I live in another country in very different conditions. What you're saying sounds like perfect common sense (which is rather hard to come by now).
I was surprised to hear about the hair-washing tip though. Doesn't everyone apply the shampoo twice? It even says so on the bottle! There's even an anecdote about how adding one word "Repeate" on the bottle doubled the sales
Amen !! Love your channel !! Irene
I've already agreed with myself that I will only go out once a month. So I've put that money aside which is $30 bucks. I already am using my chicken I put away while using my food saver which has already paid for it self two fold...or three fold...😊
Yes i buy quality shies my last oair cost about $80 lasted be two years wearing every day
Showering everyday as a woman over 50 isn't a good idea anyway as our skin loses oil and becomes dry so every other or every 3 days is good, and in between days just wash the personal bits sponge bath style.
Perfect! I’m right where I should be!! Thanks for watching.
I think I agree with some things but I love how a quick shower refreshes me lol. Maybe I won't take a shower if I'm not feeling well, but I like to shower every day.
Whoops literally watching this on my phone in bed 😮
😂 Busted!!! Thanks for watching!
Holy cow! That’s crazy! So sorry you had to go through that.
@@saraconklinfrozenpennies thank you. I’m very lucky, because my bank caught it before I did, and refunded the $ back to my account. I’ve seen several news stories in which banks refused to refund anything. Not good PR, guys.
Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful tips with us. I just found your channel and I am so intrigued.
Thank you! And thanks so much for watching!
I totally get that!
I like your videos, but I especially loved this one!
Nothing goes on our credit card unless we have the money already in the bank, and when we come home with that purchase, I pay the credit card.
Yup. Once you understand and grow up, its not as hard as you once thought. It took me a long time to learn these lessons.
Wow, I really loved this video! Such good advice! Thanks.
So glad! And thanks for watching!!
Love these tips.thanks.
Great video. I like what you said about the mayonnaise. I feel the same way about Heinz Simply Ketchup. The other brands were such a let down. I'll save in other areas.
Yup! I totally get it!
I have and many others have switched from Hellman's mayonaise to Duke"s mayonaise. Not as oily but great flavor..
If you see it in your stores give it a try.
I've heard great things about Duke's. We don't have that around here - I think its a southern thing, right?
really like to try Dukes but it's not available in my state : (
New subscriber here and enjoying your channel. Blessings from Toronto ❤
Thanks for subbing! Happy to have you!
Really good video. I generally feel the sme way..
Do what's right for you.
There will always be those who are critical.
But I could care less.
Thank you . Subbed ❤
Absolutely! And thanks so much for watching!!
Good vibes❤
I limit social media for many reasons also and last time I was on there my favorite stores were coming after me.
Lol. Those third party cookies will get ya every time!
For my 50 birthday a good friend gifted me flowers other birthday it was a andles she sends a letter notes at christmas baked christmas cake
I love this!!!
I stopped eating three times a day. I find eating once or twice is sufficient. I try to eat a fruit or vegetable if I feel I need a snack.
Totally agree 👍 Thanks for sharing 🤗
I quit buying mayonnaise or salad dressing. Doing yourself improves the quality, it's healthier too. 😊😊 God bless you.
I’m with you on the salad dressing!!
Life is too short to read a terrible book hahahahaha
I stand firm on this! 😂😂😂
@@saraconklinfrozenpenniesI'll stand on top of that mountain with you!
I collect water from shower whilst waiting for shower water to heat up use thatcwater for flushing toilet i wont birrow money i will save use cash
I do this too but water my outside pots of plants and herbs.
I've been made fun of for being frugal or for paying my bills first, so many times in my life! Especially when I was young. But where am I, and where are they after decades of living their way?
Your beautiful just the way you are ❤
Awe Thanks Kerry! 🥰

Hi Sara, I tried to download the budget planning free download, but it never downloads. I was successful on downloading the meal planner. I was hoping I could get some help with this. Thank you!

I die my own hair i would rather go on holiday ro quest
