I, too, live alone in the Appalachian Mountains with my border collie.. I came here after my husband of thirty years died suddenly. I'm almost 70 years old and many ask me the same question, why? Because I have developed such a strong connection with the earth, I would not want to ever lose it. Yes, the winters are harsh and dangerous. But being out in the cold, carrying firewood, sometimes water when the power goes out, is so good for me. I practice qi gong which keeps my body balanced. I source my food from local farmers markets and preserve for winter. I make dolls and work wood and beadwork and knitting. People don't realize how modern life detaches them from nature. I choose to remain here and flourish as best I can. In the last few years, I went to paramedic school so I could better understand the body and help those who are lost and injured on the mountain and the ill elderly folks up here. Don't give up. Don't be so hard on yourself as we can bring ourselves down being overly self-critical. Thank you, Precious Teacher is what I always say. Much love from Virginia.
I'm so sorry about your husbands passing. But I'm also so happy that it sounds like you've found yourself in a position in life you're so happy with! I couldn't agree more about modern life detaches us from nature. Wishing you the best! 🥰
I also live quietly in the mountains of Montana. I love my quiet life. At 72 and lived my whole life in the busy city as a firefighter, I now enjoy the solitude. Spiritually I grow with the Lord everyday.
My grandfather use to say when life gets tough pull yourself up by your boot straps and keep on going. You're a tough lady, you got this. You have a beautiful house and a gorgeous view. Love your dog, too.
You’ve given me so much courage and confidence, I’m not up in the mountains but I’ve lost my best friend- my husband of 43 years and I’m trying to come back to life living without him. I’m inspired by your stories. I only found you a couple of months ago but I’ve binged all your episodes! We all have hard times but don’t give up you will turn the corner and after every winter remember Spring will still come!! Love ❤️ Rio! Mine is named buster a great rescue dog!
Hello stranger. My condolences on your loss. My sis went through similar few years back. Bereavement counseling helped her a lot. She landed a group hosted by the funeral home and that's how she sprung back. May better days find you soon. Remember to eat shower sleep etc..and take cate. [Lost my dad many years back...but seems just like last week...not easy.]
You don't need to rip out the trim. Give it a sanding then hit it with a good blocking primer. The primer will highlight the spots you need to fill. I wouldn't worry about making it perfect. That old of a cottage will look fine with some character on the trim. 😉
Absolutely. Keep the trim for now. Move on to something else and in a couple of years if it still bugs you-address it at that time. You have a good chance that the trim will grow on you.
I don't live in the mountains but for the last 2 years I've lived alone and I love it.. I'm focusing on myself for the 1st time in years 🦋 Your doing amazing ❤️ you've got this x
My wife passed away in 2009 and I have been alone ever since. I have had several "relationships" over these past 10 years or so, but I have discovered that I honestly thrive when I'm alone. If I hade a friend who stayed for a while and I was always so happy when they went home! So, I get it, Lyss!
Alyssa, I'm sure I speak for a LOT of your followers/viewers when I say, we are not here for renovation stories or your adventures, we're here for YOU (and Rio). Many of us have been with you for quite a while and have grown a true attachment to you and care about you more than you know. You are truly an inspiration, so if you get tired, take a break. We will still be here for you. And as far as why you live alone in the mountains... We all know that you're still hoping that Rio is going to learn how to cut firewood and bring it in. 🤣 As always, BIG HUGS and lots of ❤from Tennessee!
I'm going through really tough time, I'm trying really hard to dive deep into my soul and mind to figure out who I am and what I want in life. Since my previous version of the life I created betrayed me and hurt me deeply, I am terrified to continue searching and sometimes just want to give up and go back to my comfort zone, with unsatisfactory, shitty, hurtful, but well known life I used to have. But there is a part of me that screams for strength to change. Your courage helps me a lot in that uneven fight. Thank you!
This. The predominant culture is insane. Just look at Sam Smith's satanic worship on Grammys, openly paying homage to a child abusing corporation. Mainstream anything is tragic.
I’m not here for home improvement updates. So you’re not letting me down in any way. I’m here because you possess the ability to bring us along on your journeys. Your videos are like a post card from a friend who is updating you on their travels. I’m old enough to remember the excitement of getting a letter you’ve been wanting on from someone special. The notifications that your video will premiere feels special. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I don’t care if your videos are about you and Rio running around that mountain. I will watch…. Tell us about the truck too. Tell us the highs and lows. It’s life and it’s ok that it’s not always smooth or perfect. Honestly can’t wait for the next video ❤️
Your videos show the vulnerabilities we all have facing life. They remind me of how sacred and precious life is. Your soothing approach is like a storybook filled with excitement at each turned page warming the inside. Even in your struggles, it warms the soul knowing that your time will come, or maybe it already has. Can’t wait to turn the next page. The backdrop of your surroundings makes it all the more beautiful. Hang in there, you’re doing awesome.
you know its staged right? Did you really thing that lonely woman grown own avocados in mountains so she can have avocado wrap? She lives probably 5 min from Tesco superstore. How people get that stupid
One of the reasons I love your channel so much is because of how vulnerable, open and honest you are with yourself and your audience. Thank you for all of your inspiration and entertainment 🫶🏻
Thank you for this. I've always struggled articulating to people why, I too, live alone on a mountain with just my dog. I even struggle answering that question to myself at times. You nailed it.
You are such a strong force Alyssa. You show that you are all woman, heart, and soul. What you are doing for yourself speaks completely to who you really are. You're on your own path and you're doing it your way; and that my darling is beautiful! You are writing a beautiful love story to yourself just by living life your way. Let the winter wrap you in her arms and hold you close...and keep going...spring is almost here! Much love sent to you.
I love the inner silence of being alone! Shutting out the world of distractions and far too much mindless chatter, and neediness of others. Although, we have to appear in the world, again, we're wearing the "armor and shields up, Scotty."😊
One of my oldest friends lives in Colorado.... he used to love the high-paced life. Now he's loving having a farm. I think your new place is giving you the ability to not have to worry about being on the road and giving you time to slowly figure things out. Enjoy the journey.
I too live alone in the mountains and for the exact same reasons you describe in this video. I value peace, solitude, and a special connectedness with nature when I’m home. It’s where I belong. Like you, this is necessary for my mental health. The “inconvenience” of not having a grocery store 5 minutes down the road is a small sacrifice. It really makes me appreciate what’s directly in front of my face. The mountains make me feel more present than anywhere I’ve ever been. For what it’s worth, I think you’ve made the right decision living where you do, Alyssa. You’re being true to yourself despite it not being everyone else’s desired lifestyle. This is YOUR life. Winter, especially at this point, definitely starts to wear on me too, but spring is on its way! Keep enjoying that wood stove 😊. August will come around and you’ll have a day of missing that wood heat warming your bones. Thank you for your videos. They’re really helping a lot of people, me especially.
Spring will be here soon, Lyss! It’s what makes living in the mountains all the more worthwhile. You really do come to appreciate the seasons and all the unique beauty they bring. And before you know it, you’ll be looking forward to next winter…And you’re not alone, you have the wonderful Rio as company…🐶
My daughter moved with, her 2 boys , to a rustic & rural part of Montanna... She was the kid that went hiking , fishing , camping & exploring with me.. She always loved winter & snow , but she loved summer , sun & beaches as well... Last year she decided to move into the mountains with her family in the north of Mt. It has been challenging for her... I live 1000 miles away , so she , although capable , has had to sort things out for herself... Frozen water line, busted water line , stuck in the snow , power outages , ect... I decided to go there & sort things out ... I installed a wood burner & cut firewood in knee deep snow. I wrapped water lines & insultated & repaired things ... I showed her how to put chains on her truck , & loaded the bed with a few hundred pounds of sandbags for weight... Its a challenge to live in that environment & she was discouraged... But I reminded her why she moved there... She wants her boys to grow up seeing the beauty of mtns , lakes , wildlife , ect.. I told her , nxt yr you can better prepare ... She loves living away from it all... She spent 25 yrs living in the grit & grind of city life.. Her relaxation was getting away from it all & spending time in places where she now lives.... Her dream has some hardships , but I reminded her , you are living your dream... Life will always have its peaks & valleys . But you get thru these low points by the promise happy times that are for sure to come.. A good network of friends (and family) can be extremely helpful when buying a truck or installing a wood burner , or repairing a truck... Good luck young lady ... Life is a balance... Not too many highs & not too many lows can bring an overall balance ...and peace.
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing this family story! And ur daughter is so lucky to get your help. It reminds me of my father. When I got divorced more than 30 years ago and I moved with my little son into a big city to study a new profession..my father holds always my back and came to us to fix practical things to support my new life. And also that my son could be with his grandfather. Forever I will be grateful for receiving sooo much love.
You can seclude yourself but the reality of follows us everywhere. It’s awesome to see the courage you show and willingness to seek self reflection . I applaud what you’ve chosen. So awesome
We're the steward of nature for me nature is my doctor to cure my psychological stress to live alone for how many days that's why now I prefer my self working in the middle of the mountains
Ty. Everyone has a story. You've given me strength to move forward. It's hard when you lose everything. I've lived through it 3x now. Camper/ gypsy life now with my soulmate man. Every day is filled with love, challenges and more. Material items mean nothing. Ty for being You!!!
I think most of your subscribers follow you because your life is fascinating and you seem very sweet, but also incredibly bold, adventurous and independent. You are what a lot of us wish we could be or wish we could have been in our younger years. So, we watch because even when you're sitting in front of a wood burning stove talking to the camera, this is interesting to most of us. Oh, and for dog lovers like me, we like following Rio too!
Im not here for busslife or home renovations. Im here for your energy. Been watching you for a long time now and its your energy that got me hooked. Your honest and you show us when your happy and when your sad and you feel so relatable. I also really feel connected to you when you reflect on your life or ideas. And the beautiful videos you put together that most of the time have a story to tell and often its of a mental state or the video starts of just abit sad and then builds towards something beautiful by the end. You motivate us and show us what a strong person you are. Your creative side is so beatiful. your very poetic and just simply have a beautiful soul :) Even tho you have had it rough for awhile now i really relate to this video. Ive also been having a not so good start to 2023 started with low energy and not really feeling in the mood for anything.. Then in february i just crashed.. been slowly building my energy and motivation back up and im on the right track and i know i get these dips but it does not make it easier when they come to visit. One thing that i do know is that im ready for more adventure and to also find the person to take with me on those adventures but until then i will continue to work hard and take care of my furry friend. Thanks again for another one of your amazing vids, take care and if you ever need someone to chat with let me know. id love to pick your brain on afew topics. Cheers from Sweden and say hi to Rio.
I live in the mountains alone also. The winters in Idaho are bad. I have 5 feet of snow right now and I am expecting more snow this weekend. Me and my dog. Love the outdoors and living in the mountains. Just wish I could find that special woman to enjoy living off Grid as I do. I live in a treehouse 15 feet off the ground, with 2 walk ways going to other trees with other tree houses. The main tree house is for cooking and sleeping. The other 2 are mainly a bath / shower room and a sitting room to watch the sun rises and sunsets.
Living one day at a time is how I go through each day. A beautiful location you have . You will make it be persistent and patient . Your lifestyle was a dream I had when I was younger . Wishing you best !!!
I'm 66 yrs old and I'm amazed at the places you've visited and the things you have done. I've chosen to travel and live through your vlogs. I would like to live like you do but medical and grocery needs need to be closer. Good luck with your home renovation and your adventures.
As someone who has never had an opportunity to be alone, live alone, made decisions on my own, travel on my own, ect, I truly wish I had had that chance and I totally respect and partially envy your choice to live alone as you are right now. I dont want to abandon those I love, of course, but I wish I had some time in my past to get to know myself and gain the self confidence and self love being alone can give you. I wish you the best.
I believe I can relate to everything you've talked about in this video. I'm trying to find myself and purpose by living alone in a truck camper traveling after the passing of my wife and best friend of 27 years. Her name was Melanie and she was a wonderful women. She treated me like a king. She was my princess. 😢. God bless you beyond measure and thank you for sharing.
@@hamrobert1469 👑 Your words have power and the stars themselves cry out for the death of princes. More so for princesses. May the heavens move mountains to grant every wish your heart desires. (Makes no difference who you are.)
I've been following for a couple years now... it is so nice to be able to follow your journey. You have shared such insight and life experience that I would have been lucky to have at such a young age. I'm 53 years old now and still learning. .. I wish you nothing but success! You've taught this old dog some new tricks for sure. When I came up we were told just to suck it up... you put it out there mentally and emotionally. You will do well in this life. Thanks again for sharing! You are helping way more than you know!
I almost had a nervous breakdown trying to strip woodwork in 1978-1979. My advice is 1) wait for warm weather, carefully remove the existing boards one window/door at a time, cutting with a knife where the trim and wall meet and slowly use a good pry bar. Take them outside on saw horses to strip and sand. It is much easier when flat and you use less stripper plus you aren't breathing that stuff. Once you have them clean even if they don't look good you can putty holes and prime them to re-install and paint. 2) Remove only the boards you tried to strip and finish them to put back and paint and leave the rest alone, just paint. FYI, some old houses they used not great boards to mill the woodwork because they intended to paint it and it's always been painted. Mine was like that and yours might be too. Mine actually had three different types of wood, even in one window frame. I hope you see this.
That is way too much work and risk at splitting the trim. She needs to finish stripping at least one room there are some ways to fix some spots like steaming out the dents. But all those flaws in the trim are characteristic. Some fear friends of mine did the same to an old farm house and all did and done. It was beautiful !
I am so very proud of you girl...keep going...I am alone 2 and it's liberating but also hard...some days I am dancing in the rain...some I cry with the clouds..and it's OK...we are human...and have so much to be grateful for...dream your dreams...find your rainbows...embrace your storms and at the end of the day...just be beautiful YOU !!!
I have so many of my own problems and I don't really have any friends and it times I am so extremely lonely, so listening to your videos and hearing you also have problems makes me feel a little bit better that I am not alone :) Thank you for that and good luck to you xxx
You have not let anyone down. And I am not here for the home renovation or your buslife. I actually follow you and watch your videos because I find comfort in your voice and your words. You are an inspiration, please know that you are such a help for me especially when my world seems to be closing in around me.
At first watching your channel I thought you were a bit of a flake . But I realized what you say is true. You share your life with others and that takes a lot of guts and strength . I’m a renovation carpenter with over 30 years experience . I would love to get my hands on that cottage
Just paint the trim for now. It will be fine. No worse than it was, you have more important things to do than to replace all that trim now. It will look good. Plus, unless I'm missing something, I think it is savable. Maybe just not by you at this exact time. It's a minor detail in life. The house looks fantastic. You're doing a great job.
as an artist, living alone has been just natural for me. I can create, feel free and can act on the inspirations i feel at any moment. My time is for me right now. And as you said, getting to truly know myself on a very deep level. Daddy issues too here! lol...heyyyyyyy.....but I've come a lonnng way on being completely happy on my own. when the time is right the right person will also be ready...the mutual attraction will be healthy and happy :) new subscriber..love your story. It's good to know people that see beyond the surface and are willing to get dirty for something other than instant gratification.
Thanks for sharing your journey. I worked so hard to get past the stigma that I feel is placed on single people. From eating dinner to everyday life. I'm glad you're sharing your walk. I live in Aspin. No one should ever be without a four-wheel drive truck up here. I would be willing to pay for your truck to be fixed. Im sure everyone on this would be willing to help. I myself enjoy your post on just knowing that we all fall down and we all work each day to make ourselves and the people around us. Life's just a little bit better.
Listen.. you are doing great! We just love to see your content.. period! Either if you’re doing home renovations or you’re in your bus. We envy you as a person and the life you live. I personally live through you in all of your free willed adventures. I want your life so baddd! So don’t get down on yourself when you don’t meet a goal that you set. Their goals weather you get it done in the time you expected to finish.. or it takes you double. When you finish you conquered a goal. We love you no matter what!
I’m living in a cabin in the mountains on Vancouver island. Lots of challenges of things I’m not experienced in like roofing, plumbing, chopping wood but I’m doing it!Just me and my dog like you:) Spring is coming and easier times. Keep going beautiful lady.
I feel the same way about living alone. It allows you time and space to be the person you want to be without distractions taking you off course. I also love the way I feel whole in the mountains. Being grounded in who you are, being true to your soul is so important. It could even be priceless to me. I am still figuring life out as we all are, but it's nice to hear of your similarities. I know our groundedness can come at a true financial burden, but at least we are being true to at least a part of our soul. It keeps us headed towards our true-North life...that we each deserve.
New to the channel and born and raised in SW Colorado. Not sure why I haven't seen your channel but I can honestly say it stirs many emotions for me. I miss Colorado very much and what you are doing has always been my dream. Its a magical part of the world and I'm happy for you. You have a beautiful, peaceful soul and you will thrive where you are.
I did wilderness survival for 10 years……appreciating and be grateful for the most simple things is the greatest feeling in life. When I would be gone 16 days in the wilderness the softness of the seat when I would sit in the car to go home was so great.
I live in Big Bear and I feel like you do sometimes, far removed in a small mountain town. Your story is beautiful and it’s hard sometimes for a lady, like yourself. You are inspiring, adventure girl. I always say, I want my life to be extraordinary. I don’t wanna get to the end of the road and say, I had NO ADVENTURE in my life. That would be a shame. You are right, problems and solving them are a good thing. Look forward to reading more about you. You will live longer than most.
I always love your videos! Nothing wrong with being alone. I've been alone for several years. I have to believe that self-work in the short term is going to pay dividends in the long term! Many people just never seek to learn more or improve themselves in any way! I'm not down with that. I'm always trying to get better. Not always successful, but always trying! Here's to new adventures!
I love how much you love your pup. Shes so beautiful and lucky to have you. I have 4 wolves and I love them more than life itself. It's hard trying to distribute SO much love and affection. I wish there were 4 of me , so I could give them as much as they all deserve.
Your experience in your remote home resonates with me so much, Lyss! I live on similarly isolated acreage in California’s Central Sierras. A grocery run is a half day’s excursion. No mail delivery is available. No garbage pickup at the house. Our dirt road is private, and thus we have to maintain it ourselves. It runs next to a creek and sometimes gets flooded out. That’s all on us to manage. Friends, even the ones who live closest, are not easy to get to. The hardships and inconveniences are many, sometimes enough to make me wonder if it’s worth it. Then I remember the many reasons why it is absolutely worth it: I breathe fresh, sweetly scented air every day. My brain is not assaulted by the incessant sounds of human activity, vehicles, or industry. A noisy day here is when the wrens are building their nests and gettin’ all rowdy, chirping like maniacs. The night sky is a miracle, splashed with the dazzling pageant of stars against deep black, unmarred by light pollution. The phases of the moon are inescapable; we always know how full the moon is because the nights are so free of city lights. There are good sources of local, organic food available, with a little effort. The pace of life is gentle, with plenty of time for watching birds, picking blackberries, wading in the creek, or just sitting and staring at the forest doing its thing. Having lived many years in cities, dashing up to the mountains on weekends to have outdoor adventures all in a rush, I feel so wonderfully blessed to live here now, where the adventures are. When we first moved here, I remember being amazed that I actually got to stay! I didn’t have to take a last glance at the beauty then rush back to my car at the trailhead and back down to the city. The challenges are indeed often daunting. Fire danger is intense in summer. Storms can take out trees, block the road, flood the road, and do all sorts of damage. Recovery from the crises is all on my partner and me. I am glad we have each other, and I hope you’ll find an ideal partner when you’re ready! I love it out here, knowing my health is supported and nurtured by nature and peace. And, hey, the resiliency required to live in a remote area is good for the soul, I’d say. And yes, winter is hibernation time. I think that when we live close to nature it’s really hard to buck the body and mind’s natural tendency to slow down, stay cozy, eat good food, read books, and tend the fire. Here’s to cozy times! Wishing you and the pupper the best on your journey.
Gosh, I’m sharing the same experiences after moving from a big city to the mountains of New York State last year. Thank you for reminding me of all things I cherish as winter lasts a very long time here.
@@jluecking5596 Oh my gosh, you're welcome! Being where you are, the winters must be really something. This year in California's Sierra Mountains it has been much colder and snowier than usual, but I'm sure our winter will be shorter than yours. Being from Seattle, I well remember those endless short Northern days of gloomy winter dragging on and on! I hope you stay cozy and get to enjoy hibernation time. :)
Thank you for sharing your journey and the degree of honesty you are comfortable bringing. Mountains are part of elevating our awareness at so many levels. In a season of "aloneness" I learned so much about my life and who I am. The harshness brings revelation and breakthrough. I found understanding, sadness, but especially thankfulness that goes beyond the circumstances. Be blessed and move with your heart.
Lyss, you will never let us down, you are doing the best you can and the way you want to live. You go, get things done and we will be there beside you all the way!!!
I just come here for the avocado wrap. :) Really, the true thought is your always going forward even when you have set backs. Most get down and stuck over things. Just keep going and you will get there. Ya Colorado does have it's moments when things look gray, I lived in Pagosa Springs for 9 years before moving to Montana. Mountain living is not an easy thing to do, so it's nice to find someone that has and get knowledge from them. Made a world of difference for my family. LOL now they call us prepers and the mountain family. Be safe, take a deep breath, and go read a book. It will come to you.
You don't have to apologize to anyone. You can't jump into a relationship just because someone thinks it's the norm. Take care pretty girl and we'll see you soon. 🥰💗
@@johnhenry3536 seriously?! And just what gives you the authority to decide what's appropriate and what isn't?! This is exactly what's wrong with our society. Everyone has to have something to be offended or butthurt about😓
I'm here for your story... Whether that includes renovations or not. ❤️❤️ Also, I can totally empathize with winter being hard. We'll make it through! You're doing great!!
I'm sorry you're having a rough time. If it makes you feel better, know that a lot of us are here for the journey of you renovating your home. If there's mistakes or setbacks, don't be afraid to document it. DIY renovation is tough but an inspiring process, owning a home is tough too. I'm here simply for you and your cute home in the country, I love the warmth and coziness of wood stove fires and the slow pace to life. 🧡💛 document whatever inspires you!
Like the mountains life is full of peaks and valleys no matter what path we take. I've found that whether you're up on the mountain top or down in the valley each place offers us a perspective on life and helps us grow into who we are...the product of our experiences. I find your experiences to be amazing and that you're definitely the richer for having confronted them the way you do.
You are inspirational! Don't ever apologize to those who would question you. Thank you for having the courage to be vulnerable in front of your audience, it made a difference in my life.
Great episode. I also live alone in the mountains at high altitude and knowing it's not just me that feels these negative things at times makes it more tolerable.
I love the courage you show , doing things on your own with just your dog. Take heart, winter is so tough for all of us. Bad things happen and we all have se backs You got this!!!
Hi there girl. We are all hoping that you are doing alright. Winter in the Colorado mountains can be a real test of our resolve and strength. ( I grew up there). We wish you all the best as you adapt and grow. And wish there was a way to speak with you. Peace, and looking forward to more from you soon. Your spirit shines through and serves as a reminder that life is a process and not always easy to deal with. God bless.
Dear Lyss. Your video has- as always- highly value and really good thoughts. I was also living my first 50 years in a country with winter in europe...and I feel you- with cold, grey, exhausting lonely days. We moved to asia- bali- and also here you have to deal with the same emotions..everywhere in all life's there are ups and downs. I very much appreciate how you deal with your life and am sure things will work out step by step. You are a very strong woman. Love from Bali.
I'm thinking of moving to Sumatra! Do you feel safe in Bali? I know it's changed alot, from what a friend said! She left after her dad passed! Said it was getting very dangerous.Shes a strong person too!
@Pam Spencer hi Pam. Leandra here. Yes we feel safe in Bali. We are here since 8 years. And we are coming to Bali since 25 years. We lived in the south with a lot of traffic jams...and now in the north..much more quiet and relaxed. In the south there can be some robbery, yes.. they try to catch ur things from the motorbike. But it depends how you act. If you have ur bag and phone visible and looking like a young unconcerned girl, without helmet..they will think you are easy to catch. And yes..heard also from robbery in private homes. Always close your door with safety lock. And put ur money at home into a safe. We never had any issues. Many young people live specially in the south..you can travel around safe as a woman. This is my observation still and what I hear from young people. And it's good if you are conscious about ur surrounding and in generally if you have a clear mind. It depends also on your inner maturity and awareness what you generally experience in your life. If you feel safe and relaxed depends primarily on yourself. How you act, how you think and feel. And how you present yourself in the outside world. And what is your goal...what kind of work you do...what kind of people you meet, your surrounding, your social contacts. So many aspects, you know. So...what attracts you in Sumatra? I'm interested why this island? Lovely greetings. Leandra
I loved it. My body gave out and I can't anymore but mountain living alone was the best. I still miss the quiet. Yes, it is hard work, there is always something to do and then some but it is so satisfying. Mornings, looking out at the world, listening to the breeze, watching the critters, sipping a hot cup of coffee, that is such bliss. Hard times always pass. Spring will fill you back up again, I promise.
You might live alone, but you have all of us right here with you. Some people will never understand why someone would want to live alone. I guess it's easier when you can lean on someone right next to you. 11 years ago my girlfriend passed away, been together almost 23 years. And I've been alone since then. The love we shared will last me forever. My friends think iam crazy for thinking that way. And I really don't care what they think. I am me ,I am aware, I am alive, and most importantly I am in love with the world around me. Like the end of your video with the clouds clearing so will the hard days of winter. Anyway I talk to much sorry. You are your pup have a great wonderful time and the very best of life to you both. Peace out
Knowing yourself is more important than many may think as living alone is therapeutic because you fill time doing what you love! It is SO beautiful where you are, the countryside is amazing no wonder why you love it Lyss!! 😍😄
I moved from metro Detroit to northern Michigan in a forest at Lake Huron.I drive 30 minutes to the grocery store. W0 minutes to the hospital, and have never been happier. Lower stress etc. I love it.
Content still magical. Also love the internal product placement sponsors over the random, generic advertisement interruptions previously experienced. The combination of obvious cuteness factors with the stunning vista views some of us are unable at present to experience goes a long way. Happy to have checked back in here.
I think you are doing just fine. That is one of my dreams to live off in the mountains somewhere. Never let anyone choose your narrative of your life, you decide what it is supposed to be like not them. If you need advise on the trim work let me know. Keep your head cause you got this and I think you know that.
I love your spirit! I wish I was able to travel and see the beautiful sights that you've seen, and just feel like im truly living life. Not just going through the normal motions of every week. I'm so glad I came across your videos! They never disappoint, and they inspire the rest of us that there is more to life than just waking up to go to work, come home, and repeat.
I am so jealous. The best time of my life was when I lived alone. And such an absolutely gorgeous place to live! I 100% agree with everything you said. You are learning who you are, and growing. Don’t listen to anyone other than what your heart tells you.
So many people are afraid of solitude these days. They don't understand that the best way to learn to love yourself is to spend time with you. I am the type of person that can easily feel lonely in a group of hundreds, but fully content alone. There is immense possibility for growth when you spend time alone. In solitude you find your strength, your worth and your personal balance.
Renovations, hiking, road trips, playing in the snow with Rio, I’m enjoying all of it. You and a couple of other UA-camrs are my winter therapy! ✌️from Massachusetts
You definitely must be an old soul. Your insights for someone so young are pretty remarkable. Today's message about choosing your problems, (because there's no such thing as having a problem free life), and how they will help you grow is pretty incredible. I admire not only your introspection but your bravery as well.
Cooool to see a person inspiring other people with peace. My situation is similar with love of the outdoors, well being, cooking for my self care, and overall motivation to live free. Thank you for your energetic spirit. The world is far out. TY, Rob
The changes you've made in your life are fascinating!! You have made some gutsy moves and adaptations to your lifestyle and it has been a privilege to be able to watch your transformation to a home owner. I am not a full-time RVer, but thoroughly enjoy my travels (especially in the summer months to avoid the heat of the Desert Southwest). I would treasure the opportunity to meet you personally over a warm cup of coffee, but I know that isn't probable. In the meantime I will continue to enjoy your videos and watch as your life changes through time.
keep the trim, sand it down as much as reasonable and oil it.. it will be fine.. and later when the weather is better you can reassess. Am in the mountains too, spending winter in the cold and deal with the elements is healthy. You are doing the right thing.. Almost no-one understand why anyone would want to be alone, don't worry about what people think, stay true to your heart
You are one brave, strong young woman. I do enjoy ALL of your content not just the remodel. Even your food inspires me to eat better. Just keep your chin up, these bad weather days will pass!!💖
You are right about living alone forcing you to introspect. If more people did this it would heal wounds, build confidence as you said, know what you want in life and ultimately knowing those things makes you a better person all around. Also so when things like pandemics happen you aren't left reeling like most extroverts.
I wouldn’t say that you have made no progress, failure is just part of the process. I’d say that you’re a huge inspiration, to myself included. I currently live down the mountain in Arvada and just got the opportunity to work full time remote and started toying with the idea of moving more remote up into the mountains to get more land and connect back with my small town roots.
Hi lyss, I've been watching your channel for over a year now I don't usually comment on channels at all so I thought I'd write a wee update from my perspective on your journey as I've seen it, seeing how you've progressed over time from you travelling alone as a female out in your van going from town to town to witnessing just how hard it really must be being on your own as a female and all that comes with it like when you were being whistled at an just how uncomfortable it made you, having to disguise the fact you were living in the van at all, it made me stop for a moment because I seen the look in your eyes I didn't know if it was fear or stress but what it did do was show me in that moment just how strong you are, solo female out there in a strange area having to find somewhere safe to park every night not knowing if it really is a safe place as its unknown to you. I suppose this is where intuition kicks in or instinct I for one am a firm believer and to trust what your gut is saying to you coz when I've thought about it your intuition kicks in before there is any thought process at all, It's built in it's our alarm system and overrides everything. Ye so what I suppose I'm saying is that I've witnessed your growth as its been happening an that's a really cool thing to witness an awakening. Also when there's no choice in the matter you've had to face situations when left to our own devices we'd run or hide from them, Build things we don't know how to build but persevered through it, cook things for ourselves then bang we're flinging dishes together we never thought possible lol. All these what we think at the time are small but they're not we're building character. Nothing good ever happens within our comfort zone. Look at you now, you're in your house killin it... Stop being hard on yourself look how far you've come... So I guess I'll just stay around and see the rest of the show, never know maybe even pick up a few tips along the way 🙏 🏴...
Give yourself time. You don’t have to work every day to fulfill your self worth. This is something I struggle with. It’s ok to just be. Everything will come in time. Enjoy and be proud of what you have accomplished in your young life! It’s a lot! Your beautiful inside and out. Don’t worry about what we want , video what you want and we will follow along. ❤
I live at 8,000 feet in Colorado as well...and it has been a long, cold, snowy hard winter. But that just makes the blue sky days all the more special. On a side note, I had a blown head gasket on an older 4runner I had years ago, and there are companies that sell mid-mileage Toyota engines you can plug and play, sorry to hear you had that set back. And lastly, I have to say that would have been an quite a cold plunge...Wim Hof would have been impressed ;-) Keep on, keeping on!
Hi Lyss. You are as beautiful as you can be. So don´t even bother about negative opinions on your life style. I kind of relate to you in as much that I as well live by myself in a cottage at an altitud of 8.500 feet in the Andes mountains in the country of Colombia. Who cares about the "advantages" of urban life these days. After all life is just a mist that vanishes before we even realize it. I hope you are doing well this winter up in the mountains of Colorado, I wish you the best for the upcoming. ❤❤❤
Nice comment. Good luck up there👍
I'm so sorry about your husbands passing. But I'm also so happy that it sounds like you've found yourself in a position in life you're so happy with! I couldn't agree more about modern life detaches us from nature. Wishing you the best! 🥰
Yes, the next indicated thing
All respect 🙏.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Hugs!
Sorry for your loss 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Spirit is eternal 💯🤙
Karen, I’m so sorry, but I see you reaching out. You’re a strong person.
I'm focusing on myself for the 1st time in years 🦋
Your doing amazing ❤️ you've got this x
My wife passed away in 2009 and I have been alone ever since. I have had several "relationships" over these past 10 years or so, but I have discovered that I honestly thrive when I'm alone. If I hade a friend who stayed for a while and I was always so happy when they went home! So, I get it, Lyss!
I agree! My wife died in 2008. People don’t understand why I need to be alone. I know you get it.
In Christ we have the best friend ever
Alyssa, I'm sure I speak for a LOT of your followers/viewers when I say, we are not here for renovation stories or your adventures, we're here for YOU (and Rio). Many of us have been with you for quite a while and have grown a true attachment to you and care about you more than you know. You are truly an inspiration, so if you get tired, take a break. We will still be here for you. And as far as why you live alone in the mountains... We all know that you're still hoping that Rio is going to learn how to cut firewood and bring it in. 🤣 As always, BIG HUGS and lots of ❤from Tennessee!
“…it gives me all of the right problems..”
Very well said.
Same reason I left the lower 48 and came to Alaska.
Thank you!
Never give up 💪 💚
❤
We stand alone because most people are nuts. God Bless You Lyss. Can't wait for ur show. 💞.
Ken, this might be one of the most heartwarming comments I've ever received. Thank you. Truly, thank you.
🌼
you know its staged right? Did you really thing that lonely woman grown own avocados in mountains so she can have avocado wrap? She lives probably 5 min from Tesco superstore. How people get that stupid
One of the reasons I love your channel so much is because of how vulnerable, open and honest you are with yourself and your audience. Thank you for all of your inspiration and entertainment 🫶🏻
Thank you for this. I've always struggled articulating to people why, I too, live alone on a mountain with just my dog. I even struggle answering that question to myself at times. You nailed it.
I thought the exact same thing!
Thank you for putting words to my feeling. Grateful to you for the videos! Keep telling us like it is.
I cant believe many are watching for renovation tips. Think most are looking at your remarkable story.
It's so wonderful to appreciate every season in its own way! 😊
She is blessed...having a father like you ♥ I hope she knows....but I'm sure she does. Not all of us had that.
I live north in an old all wood house, sometime winter storm are just a great feeling, watching fire in wood stove, and listening the sound ❤
You can seclude yourself but the reality of follows us everywhere. It’s awesome to see the courage you show and willingness to seek self reflection . I applaud what you’ve chosen. So awesome
We're the steward of nature for me nature is my doctor to cure my psychological stress to live alone for how many days that's why now I prefer my self working in the middle of the mountains
i live alone in the mountains too! may we all lift each other! love to all
Sorry for your loss. I am living the same thing now but 39 years of happiness for us. Wish you strength and blessings.
💔🧡🦋🕊️
@@lastmason5491 Thank you so much. I wish you the best of healing.🙏
@@evelynzlon9492 Thank you.🙏👍
@@hamrobert1469 👑 Your words have power and the stars themselves cry out for the death of princes. More so for princesses. May the heavens move mountains to grant every wish your heart desires. (Makes no difference who you are.)
I’m one state west of you and more snow is headed your way this week! Get the supplies ready, food, wood, etc. and stay safe. ☃️
Beautiful you and the mountains, hang-on and never give up GOD is with you.
You have not let anyone down. And I am not here for the home renovation or your buslife. I actually follow you and watch your videos because I find comfort in your voice and your words. You are an inspiration, please know that you are such a help for me especially when my world seems to be closing in around me.
You have never let us down..we enjoy following your life...the ups and the downs..it reflects reality! THANK YOU.
At first watching your channel I thought you were a bit of a flake .
But I realized what you say is true. You share your life with others and that takes a lot of guts and strength .
I’m a renovation carpenter with over 30 years experience .
I would love to get my hands on that cottage
Dave, this means a lot to me. Thank you for taking the time to come on this journey with me.
@@REGRETLYSS1 thanks keep letting me know how you’re doing
You're not alone. You have your dog . Spiritually, you have God. Living out in the mountains, what a blessing.
Love your videos.
What a nice area to live and be able to walk, hike. Love your channel and content.
Spring is just around the corner 🙋♂️🐈🐈
Keep going beautiful lady.
thats awesome! musta been rough the last few days with all the snow
Least you won't be in the great flood. Every where in Canada is going to flood does flood
Rio is so fun to watch! She loves being outside with you.
Wow! I've lived in the mountains for years. Wish I could find a woman like this. Their far and few in between. Keep the faith girl!
We're here for you Lyss and your honest and beautiful take on life, whatever that brings, we're not here for home renovations.
@REGRETLYSS2... Fake user. Reporting.
Whenever I watch your uploads, I always think that I want to take care of you, not that you need that, but it’s just my thoughts 💭 🤗
@@marvellousmarvin Inappropriate dude.
@@marvellousmarvin probably more like you want to be taken care of, if you want to be completely honest about it...
@@johnhenry3536 seriously?! And just what gives you the authority to decide what's appropriate and what isn't?! This is exactly what's wrong with our society. Everyone has to have something to be offended or butthurt about😓
I'm here for your story... Whether that includes renovations or not. ❤️❤️
Also, I can totally empathize with winter being hard.
How is so much wisdom stored in such a youthful package? You're a rare person. Peace. ~Sonny
Lyss, remember you are never alone. You have us always! 🥰🥰😘
I think that you are the healthiest person on UA-cam. Really impressed with your thoughts, decisions and choices. Good luck!
It just has to be "Inconvenient enough, uncomfortable enough"
No truer words!
Exactly!
Sounds idyllic...With you in spirit lyss..ALWAYS..Sending Love to the world, wherever its needed ❤
No worries about what others think about your renovations and when you get to a time you can get to it!!
Live alone ? No ! Alyssa, God and Rio are BOTH with you ! 😇🐶........😉
exactly!
Living in the mountains has always been a dream of mine. Good luck to you with your journey. It’s very brave to live life on your own terms.
