The optics of the OEM's were better. The clones were not as crisp bright and clear. The focusing mechanism of the clones was crap. The 2 sides didn't foxus together, you had to do each side separately. That being said, the clones were worth the money charged for them, the real ones were not. Or I just don't like Binocs this small. The clones would be great if they had "cloned" the focusing mechanism.
I don't think that would be a market. The cloners look at a market with some demand, usually a lot of demand and go after that. They still have to setup to do mass production of product.
I bought a pair of 8x20 classics I've never owned any binoculars prior to buying them...i was lucky enough to get them for $500nz ..it takes a while to get used to them but once u do your away....i noticed they don't say "made in Germany" but it does say made by Carl Zeiss.. so I guess that's as good as anything
When it comes to buying high end optics/goods with a flourishing counterfeit market, it is always best to just pay the dealer's premium. You know what you have is real...and the way many optics/electronic companies are now, you have to have the receipt.
A good, imformal review. I wonder how many have paid premium prices for what is essentially a piece of junk. With optics, and most other items, you get what you pay for. Or in this case you don't get what you pay for.
It's amazing how close they get. I have had a few clone knives that were done real well. They could stand on their own for sure. They would have done "OK" here with some sub standard optics, but failing to clone the focus was a FAIL.
Les Garten One would have thought that the focusing wouldn't have presented too much trouble. You stated in your review you felt the Zeiss were not worth the money yet the fakes were. I have owned a pair of Zeiss conquest 10x30 bt since 2003-4 and they are still as good as new and optically they are superb; prior to that I had a pair of Hawke Frontier 10x42 which for the price were superb (less than half that of Zeiss). So, are Zeiss twice as good as Hawke? No. But they are better and the fact they still perform like new is testament to the old adage: you get what you pay for. I am, as American chaps would say, an "average joe." So my opinion is just that--an opinion!
Let me clarify. The clones are good for what they are, but the lack of coordinated Focus makes them a FAIL. But the optics for someone who can't afford better are pretty good. The Zeiss are much better, but IMO over priced. These are the only 25mm optics I've handled so that has to be kept in mind. I have 10x40B's that I bought back in 1990 and they are just awesome. I send them back to Zeiss to be cleaned and gone over and they were first rate and didn't cost a dime to clean and service. I like Zeiss optics but was unimpressed with the 10x25's but that may be just inherent to that small an optic. The reason why the fakes were worth the cash is that they are real good for the outlay of cash. Does that make sense? If the clones had the focusing correct they would be awesome for the cash.
Les Garten, I have just re-read my earlier reply and have to say I come across as being a little terse. That was not meant. You did a brilliant comparison. Now, what I meant to have said was that the Chinese shouldn't have had any trouble in replicating the focusing/dioptre adjustment found on the originals. Of course I see exactly how the counterfaits are worth the money. As you say, Lee, for some one who cannot spend a lot of money the copies represent very good value. Please accept my apologies if I caused any offence.
I didn't take it that way. I thought maybe I wasn't clear. You're right, why they cut a corner on such an important feature is totally beyond me. I was mystified when I saw that.
can you tell me a little about the quality difference and what exactly you think?

Are there - on the market - clone/counterfeits of vintage (zeiss) binoculars? Could that really be profitable for the counterfeiters?
I don't think that would be a market. The cloners look at a market with some demand, usually a lot of demand and go after that. They still have to setup to do mass production of product.
What about the 8x32 Conquests - are they often faked?

I have a question. If tento 20×60 binoculars don't have "made in ussr".then Is that fake?

Interesting, thanx! It would be interesting to see them against my Zeiss 10x40B.
Binoculars are my hobby, and I can realise fake or real by checking them.
Congratulations, I'm happy for you...
