    That’s a slick old tractor! I used to have a 1977 4630. I think I bought it in 1999. I paid John Deere do a inspection on it for me prior to closing the deal, and right after getting it home and under 70 hours of use the transmission went south on it. My father and I totally rebuilt the quad range ourselves. I put over 6000 dollars worth of bearings, gears and such in it. Once I got inside it I discovered that the pinion was shot. So it also got a brand new ring gear and pinion. Mine was a thirsty girl! I ran Titan brand 18.4 x 38 radials on it.

    Beautiful 4630, one of the greats. Have two our own that we bought second hand, working on a third. Cant beat cheap dependable hp

      DieselFume1 yup cheap functional and if your use to them comfortable. Beats spending 100,000 on a tractor the same size . Best thing about having old outdated stuff is its paid for!

    Beautiful old 30 series. You, your dad, and your uncle must of taken really good care of her. This was a neat video. I hope to see more.

    Beautiful tractor, I have an old 4430 family heirloom doesn't get used much now but I'll never get rid of it, I'm kind of partial now to my 4955 on two of them just love them.

      Nice! my uncle owns a 4430 that i farm with too and was the first tractor i drove by myself. Hard to beat the older tractors. Lots of parts available, dependable and dont need a computer to fix

    That is one sexy and badass tractor! I know a guy who has a 4630 with 18.4.46's on the back 8 speed PS and it does 26 mph. Really nice looking tractor!

      My dad had a 4630 as well. As I recall, he had some minor mods done to the engine for more power and had the larger rear tires. On the road, I could catch up to tractors ahead of me, slowly but surely. I don't think his went 26, but definitely a fair bit faster than the 4430's that most area farmers had.

    I know this is an old video AJ, but I don’t think I’ve seen it. What a beautiful older tractor...and you’ve kept it so nice! We’ve got one in our line-up I can relate to with ya...a 4240 my grandfather bought new in 1981...it’s a few hours away from turning 7,000. I think we might turn this into our spraying tractor. Did you buy a special cab filter for your 4630 for spraying?

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  2 роки тому

      Thanks ed, its been used and abused but still going strong. For spraying insecticide i use a charcoal filter but otherwise i just use a regular one. Those charcoal filters are expensive

    My son and I recently picked up one of these classics. Where did you purchase the cab caddy from? Also like the shelf in the front and the buddy seat. Are those all direct from Deere?

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  6 років тому

      keithdilts the cab caddy and shelf I bought from the deere dealer. I believe distal grain systems is the manufacturer of them (not sure on the spelling). The buddy seat I bought at a trade show through Abilene machine. All are worth the money in my opinion

      Iafarmer We bought the cab caddy and monitor caddy from Distal. Very nice and easy to install. Thanks for the tip. Now we’re trying to figure out the correct routing for the heater hoses. The way we bought it they are on the right hand side of the tractor and are very loose hanging down by the oil filter. I don’t see them in your overview; are they on the left side?

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  6 років тому

      keithdilts they are on the right hand side of your sitting in the seat. They run behind the fuel filters then down across the top of the shift linkages. Glad to hear you found them

    going to look at one of these tomorrow. Anything you'd tell me to look for or signs to watch for? Thanks

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  4 роки тому +1

      I would say make sure it drives in all gears and check blowby and oils and antifreeze. Also look at the head to make sure nothing is leaking there. Under the front end at the pivot point look at the front bolt and washer, if the bushings are out you can tell if the washer looks higher than the where it was originally. Thats just a few things i would check other than the obvious leaks, air conditioning, 3 point stays up, pto starts and stops etc

      @@iafarmer Thank you very much. It never hurts to know just one more thing to keep and eye out for. I appreciate it

    Got the same one, how do I engage the PTO? Do I just push the lever up? What if it doesnt go up?

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  3 роки тому

      Yup just push it up. If it wont move maybe a linkage is froze up or something in the valve by the transmission isnt moving properly
