We had a 4630 PS.....no way I want one ever again. It was nothing compared to our 1586 either power or starting ease .

Takes a while to get the over fuel pulled back on that Bosch pump when it's that cold.

It blows my mind to see people with a 50 to $100,000 dollar machine that can’t or won’t spend a couple of bucks for hydro to warm the engine before starting. The most damage to the internal moving parts of an engine happen in the first 20 seconds before the cold oil reaches all of the critical areas.

I had a first year, 1973, 4230. That pos tractor would act this way at anything below 50 degrees. Then I got a 1976? 4430 which was much better. Kept that and bought a 4240.
The 42 would start down to 0 degrees every time.

.better yet, drill a 3/8 hole in the air intake pipe 3 inches above the hood, spray vary minimum either in the hole as you turn it over. You can still reach the key and do both at the same time. Much safer

My 4620 would start at 10°F with no assist. Below that, I could plug the Block Heater in for about 15 minutes and be fine. I hate using Cosby Sauce.

The majority of the transmission still spins in neutral. Cold oil adds drag.

@@corriesdailyfun. The input shaft and countershaft are still dragging thru the heavy oil. Pushing in on the Clutch stops all action from there on.
