The song dates back at least to the mid-1800s. As with many old folk songs, the lyrics change over time, but the fiddle tune is something I've known for as long as I can remember (I'm 64).
No no and no !
There are better versions
Early 80s for sure, cause we were dancing to it when I was dating. Got married in 1982. 😂
Yeah, if you've ever been to a wedding or basketball/hockey game, you've heard it. Some would say...unfortunately.
Old, old song. There is a version of this with Jerry Garcia on one of his side ventures that I've always been fond of.
In Australia around 1995/96 this was huge and was a great song to dance to, everyone got up for this one and we all got a real workout. Loved it!!
They zydeco’d this up for sure! This is an old 19th century traditional song…
I went to college in 96 - and remember dancing around the bar to this in my cowboy boots with my friends. It is SO much fun - and SUCH a huge workout. We'd all be exhausted by the end of it. If you want to hear our CANADIAN, super fun drinking song - please check out Home for a Rest - by Spirit of the West. It's a total banger - gets you dancing right out of your chair. Would LOVE to see your reaction to it. Cheers from Ontario, Canada! :)
you need to hear the original version because that is NOT how I have ever heard it
Tommy, not only can he do everything (but the violin) but he's hilarious.
This song is the equivalent to The Chicken Dance and Hokey Pokey, at wedding dances.
Bob Wills and Texas Playboys do a version from the 30s-40s. Asleep At The Wheel’s version is the version I remember dancing to…
Have never seen this group's version of this song. The origins of the song go back to pre-Civil War days and has been heard in traditional American country music in various forms for a long time. While acknowledging that these current musicians are talented, I don't think I'm one to appreciate this new spin.
Don't mix meth and moonshine kids!! 😅😅
Love Tommy's covers, he has so much energy and they are so fun to watch. Great reaction
I want him to sing with Floor Jansen. I don't think Hannes would mind.
Hilarious, both - original and cover.
I was hoping you'd get a chuckle. He can do everything except play the violin. Thanks Sebs
welcome to the world of tommy johansson my friend. enjoy!
