I did with my last sale of my OTG Gm Jungle! She was just too big to carry as a purse as I hoped for. I paid over retail but got a few hundred more than I paid so I was happy 😊
@@Tristin57 I had good luck this year with selling my bags - during co-vid I really thought about the Chanel bags that were not working for me - the boy bag due to the chain always getting stuck and 2 coco handles that's the straps would not stay up on my shoulder and couldn’t wear crossbody - they were in excellent condition and made a couple of hundred dollars on each.
I made profit on two Chanel bags from 2009/10 in excellent condition with all accoutrements and receipts etc which went straight into the hands of Vestiaire Collective as commission :-/ Lost value on Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Chloe and Mulberry. Didn’t sell my Hermès bags…I’m not that crazy 😜
The only reason those brands don't hold their resale value because they don't play "hard to get" game. Anyone can go and buy a brand new one very easily. I am still loving my YSL and Givenchy bags. I don't buy with idea of selling. All my bags are forever bags.
No purse is an investment- my CPA told me to invest in stocks, IRAs, retirement accounts, real estate, CD etc ………but NEVER a purse. I owe several luxury bags and believe they are all overpriced to include my Chanels.
I just want to say that I very much appreciate you always putting chapters with time stamps in your videos. It makes them very organized and easy to find content, rewatch, or skip over sections. Thank you for the extra effort!
I view my designer bags as wardrobe investments, not financial ones. I mostly buy styles in flattering neutral colors that work with my outfits and lifestyle. Cost per wear is very much a consideration. I own several preloved Bottega Venetas, and they are a great value on the secondary market if you love luxurious designer quality with minimal branding. That said, if I think it will be a forever bag, I will buy new, preferably with a discount.
Number 1 rule is that if the designer brand has an outlet store then it is not an investment. These are gucci prada ysl givenchy balenciaga fendi miumiu celine dior. Those designers that do not have outlet stores like LV, chanel, hermes, goyard holds their value and is a good investment cause the bags dont go on sale.
I agree with everything in this video! I have a threshold that if it's less than $1,500 USD then I'll typically buy it brand new because it's generally worth the price difference, especially with LV Canvas and YSL.
I apply my own theory. First of all, I buy bags to use. To wear and enjoy. So I look at the cost per wear. Which is also why I only have a small collection of purposeful bags and not tons which end up sitting on the shelf. I don’t look at making a profit when I sell them. I’ve sold tons and I’m glad that (1) I got to use them and (2) I got SOME money back. Unlike many other types of items which you use and can’t make any money from them when you’re done using them. That’s my theory on why I consider a handbag is still somewhat an investment compared to many other types of fashion items. And, I have to say that buying many of these bags in retail in Europe is still way cheaper than buying them in Asia where I live. So that helps to save a lot. Even when I pay customs and duties on them, they’re cheaper than buying them in-store here in Asia. Pre-loved is great but again, like you suggested, we need to invest in getting them authenticated otherwise that’s totally money down the drain.
@@soksannkhem6961 if it's a classic handbag from Gucci or YSl then you definitely at least get most of your money back. For instance the Gucci Soho Disco or the YSL toy lou lou ... as they are classics and the price goes up every year ;)
Loved this video and I am a preloved bag shopper but let’s talk about how preloved is now selling for more than the new price even for purchases that you could buy from the store website.
I am not into the preloved market because of the hassle of having the bags authenticated. I actually just bought the small Lady Dior (my only Dior bag) and I feel it completed my collection. I agree with you that I will not buy more Gucci (have three), YSL (have 1), Dior and even Louis Vuitton bags. Don't own a Fendi, Givenchy and Bottega bags. Will definitely add more Chanel and Hermes bags.
Once again superb video. You are so real and make so much sense. I agree with everything you’ve said. Only problem is I don’t sell my purchases, so when I buy I make sure it’s exactly what I want. Thanks again Steph.
Not quite designer but I once bought a Radley bag brand new on Ebay. Used it, didn't like it. Then something broke on it. Seller replaced it. I left tags on & listed it on Ebay & sold it for more than I paid for it.
There are issues with verification sites is you can not trust them to have quality experts. Even with a certificate of authenticity, that does not guarantee it’s a real bag. Had that issue with a Louis Vuitton bag. Took it to a LV store and found out it was an extremely well made fake. Had two certificates of authenticity for it from well known sites. Buyer beware!!!
I agree with this so much! I made the mistake in my earlier days of purchasing luxury handbags. Purchased the YSL Smoking Clutch. 1300 down the drain. Resale was pennies compared to what I paid. As of now I'm strictly LV.
I bought the YSL mini Lou camera bag in Hawaii which at the time was 20% cheaper than U.S. mainland. Then there was a slight price increase. I ended up selling it to help fund a Chanel purchase and I was actually able to break even.
Absolutely agree with your advice! I have been thinking of getting a Pochette Metis Reverse on the pre-loved market since I've never been able to score one in a store but I'm very reluctant because if it needs a repair (and a Metis quite often does), I doubt they'd take it on if the receipt is not in my name. Otherwise, full retail only for LV and for other brands it's the pre-loved route for me. The sole exception are my YSL Toy Loulous which I bought at full retail because I thought the price difference with pre-loved wasn't worth it.
Totally agree with all your points in the video! I also only own a limited edition Lady Dior (the gradient grey one) which I bought at full price, otherwise defo recommend the preloved market for more common colours like black gold. Also have bought all brands like Prada / Fendi / Celine from the 2nd hand market which helps make savings to buy LV / Chanel at full price. Thanks again for the awesome video x
Glad you enjoyed the video Kahing. Yes, if you love the bag go full price and 100% Prada, Fendi, Celine you can make HUGE savings pre-loved. Thanks for sharing x

I’ve bought Givenchy Antigona pre loved and the baby on sale. If I see something as a staple that I’ll never sell, I’ll buy full price. It would be helpful for you to include the ceiling prices you would be willing spend preloved on each brand. I’m interested in knowing .
Can you talk about Bvlgari bags? I bought one for 2700 and the quality/attention to detail is phenomenal. The gold is plated as well, and considering more popular brands that are 2x that price....and don't plate thier gold blows my mind. It's like a peice of jewlery.
I agree with your list that are all good to get via preloved! Though super loving ysl too😍. Still thinking hard if I should get the sunset or save more money to get the chanel flap😅
I total agree with this list, because I also purchase bags on preloved market. My latest video about my LV collection will show you my LV vintage treasures:)
I love it! I'm actually just looking at them now - however, I don't think the Fendi totes will hold their value was well as a Louis Vuitton for example
Hi Steph, great tips! 👍🏻 I’m looking to purchase my first luxury designer bag , and I don’t really like Chanel… and Hermes is over my budget so I’m left with LV. 😅 May I ask , what type of LV bag on your opinion does hold its value the best? Ideally I’d like to be able to wear it crossbody, so popular “speedy” bag I don’t really consider. Many thanks in advance for your kind reply.
@@komalsworld8608 I recently bought a brand new YSL small lou lou from Saks. I got a sign-up for an account online discount, a $475 gift card, and about $45 from Rakuten. I had checked the pre-loved market but they cost the same or more than new. What gives?
I agree about Givenchy. I am trying to sell my Givenchy Medium ID handbag (excellent condition) and I am having a hard time selling for a good price. Bought my Antigona in preloved tho, and even tho it was more worth every penny (since its less thn half original price!), I still feel its easier to let go than my first designer which I saved so much for.
I agree that only Hermes, Chanel and LV hold their values, but I don’t find other on-trend styles from other brands to be much cheaper on the pre-loved market either! For example, a brand new YSL small LouLou is about USD $2.2K, but it’s re-selling for USD $2K on the pre-loved market, such as Fashiophile, if it’s in an excellent condition. Where do you see on-trend bags that are in great condition that are selling for less than 50% of retail? Apparently I’m not looking at the right place! 😩
