This is 100% true. Every single one of my guy friends never once approached a girl. The girls that were interested would approach them. In high school not a single girl approached me, none were interested. After going to university I was approached (after I changed a lot of myself, began eating better, began looking and dressing better, started to get fitter and stronger, became more manly and masculine). The woman I ended up marrying, she approached me first. In fact every one of my male friends married a girl who approached them first. I still never approached a woman in my entire life.
Young guys need to learn this fact. If you arent getting approached it means they dont like you. There's no amount of BS or sweet talking or charm to make them like you. They either like you, or they dont. And they can tell instantly if they like you or dont. Accept it. If you arent getting approached at all it means something is wrong (too ugly, too sloppy looking, to weak looking, too creepy looking, etc). So you have to change yourself to be wanted and be craved.

I'm 6'3 and have always been told I'm handsome, but I have very little success picking up women. I never had much success in bars and clubs when I was in my 20s and 30s, probably due in large part to social anxiety and because I had terrible fashion sense (maybe a bit of a cope?).
Even so, there were a handful of times I remember a girl throwing herself at me, which surprised me because I was as passive and shy as ever. I recall one girl telling me all I needed was to "be more dominant".
Other times, I felt very strongly that some girls were sending out signals of interest, but I never had the nerve to act. So, I think having confidence and social skills are still critical if you're tall and good-looking, but not a 9 or 10, otherwise you'll miss out on or screw up opportunities that are actually available to you.
