I like Teleman, particularly because he gave a voice to less popular instruments and wrote beautiful music that was fit for each instrument, he wrote around 6 sonatas for the oboe, and two for the bassoon, which are both instruments which don't get a lot of pieces written especially for them
However, we all know that the viola is actually the crumb of Oreo that gets swept away. That was a viola joke. But in all seriousness, violas aren’t bad.
Bruh, listen to the Stamitz Concertos, Hoffmeister Concerto, Mendelssohn Sonata, Reger Suites, J.S Bach Gamba Sonatas, C.Ph.E Bach Gamba Sonatas, Glazunov Elegie, Bruch Romance, Hummel Potpourri Fantasy and Sonata, Schubert Arpeggione Sonata, Schumann Fairy-Tale Pictures op.113, Vieuxtemps Elegie and Sonata and a Concerto soon to be posted by me.
That comment made me sad :( I know that it's been many years since you wrote that comment. You may not even remember writing it. But it sill made me very sad :(
Brian Swanson however it's useful to note that in the baroque period vibrato was not a thing yet and strictly speaking, vibrato is not allowed in pieces composed before 1760.
@@theresabw5530 absolutely right, for anyone interested in learning about baroque vibrato see Leopold Mozart's "Versuch einer gründlichen Violinschule"
The talent level of Rose and the orchestra is absolutely amazing. I'm 61 years old, and this may be the best performance of this piece I've ever heard. Intonation, dynamics, etc. are perfect!!!
I am a violinist. The Telemann Viola Concerto in G Major is one of my favorite concertos. We played it in 1973 when I was a part of the Dora Short Youth Orchestra. We used to rehearse at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Virginia. Her brother Mr. Ronald Marshall worked with her in training our orchestra.
I remember this so vividly! It's what earned me second chair, and an invite to play with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra! That's pretty intimidating when you're in 8th grade.
I was a little older than a year old when this was posted, now i sit on my floor with my viola next to me reading this piece for the first time while listening to this. I'll be amazed if i can play this anywhere near as well as this women did
YOU are a most remarkable viola player!!! You tone and dynamics come so natural and beautiful and you bowing is also very natural and flowing but also strong and bold. What a wonderful performance to you all! Thank you for posting.
This is such a gorgeous concerto! The first movement is full of stately grandeur with moving hints of melancholy. The second movement is brilliant, the third thoughtful, and the fourth unforgettably delightful. This is a fine performance.
Absolutely stunning. Love the warmth and velvet sound of the viola. No wonder I play it myself....fond memories when I used to play this concerto many many years ago as an adolescent guy
I've always thought the viola sounded much nicer than the violin. The sound of the viola is soothing, gentle, and velvety, but at the same time full-bodied and powerful. I mean no disrespect to violin players, but the violin sounds relatively thin and weak in comparison to the viola.
It depends on the director of the Orchestra. He treats me like a firefighter, he puts me wherever the greatest need is, sometimes in 1st, sometimes in 2nd and now as the only Viola (as a support for the 3rd violins). I have to say that at one stage of my life I used to play and teach viola/violin professionally but I stopped doing that many years ago. Now I sit in with a young student orchestra in our local school of music - (I am older than the combined ages of the 3rd violins!) but it is fun for me. Once a musician, always a musician.
E io voglio con Telemann tornare - alla gioia di vivere contenti - di pace e di serenità e gustare - la musica di belle e intraprendenti - suonatrici di violino a sorte - di grazia di dolcezza e mano forte.
This has always been my ultimate happy music. Marvelous performance. There are only a few things that will always give a wonderful skip in my step. This concerto and any of the Mozart horn concertos. Pure undiluted joy and happiness. The Telemann concerto got me through some of the toughest times of my life.
The way I describe it to people is that a violin is like an soprano in the choir while the viola is an alto. Although there is just one string difference, the body of the viola is bigger giving it a more mellow sound.
the largo is so nicely done. A beautiful bright fall day for the Allegro I can actually feel the crispness. Like the warm sun on the cooling earth touching and feeling with a wonderful smile still hopeful. I love how the violist kinda wiggles to the rythem..
* VIOLA * Violin sound like violin cello, When I think it sounds like a violin, I have feelings of violin cello. Oh ..!..... What a wonderful sound .!..!...!.....
Now listen here Rose. I studied with who may be the most famous violist of all time, the great Paul Doktor. if he heard you, he would have LOVED your playing and bow arm. your tone is lovely. who made your viola? and why can't we violists get famous like a Joshua Bell?
musiccheryl There aren’t enough pieces for the viola, unfortunately. I’m a violinist, but I feel bad for you violists; however, there are quite a few Baroque pieces featuring the viola d’amour, including concerti by Vivaldi.
I've found a list of classical pieces on youtube, and among all those pieces this is the one that caught my heart. The viola sounds like it has gone through so much ups and downs, sad but calm at the same time. So glad I found this concerto :)
+AuraSavior Gaming Sorry! Her name is Tatyana Stepanova. She is a chamber music coach, private piano teacher, and accompanist at our school! I will add her to the credits.

I always told my students that the viola is like the cream in an oreo cookie; sweet and creamy while holding the top and the bottom together. :-)
Darlene Abbate That’s a sweet metaphor, literally! :)
Nice one!
However, we all know that the viola is actually the crumb of Oreo that gets swept away. That was a viola joke.
But in all seriousness, violas aren’t bad.
whenever i hear an oreo metaphors i think of 3somes... (white in the middle with blacks on top and bottom) >.
Wtf creamy
Violas don't get enough attention...
they really should play a bigger part in orchestras for their beautiful sound.
+Leviathan Zid I played viola when I was in school... we used to call ourselves the Orchestra Trash Can; we'd get all the notes no one else wanted. :)
thanks
I play viola, I agree! #violadabest 😊😊
Cellos too! They always force me to play the background parts becuase I play cello, I feel bad for both viola and cello.
Soul Apple1031 cello and base are literally the foundation of the orchestra, shutcho bitchass up
Violas sound like they've been through stuff and are much more wiser than the violin imo
U must be a violist
viola was made before the violin!

Luis Muñoz yes,but I mean, there are more people composing for viola too,so there will be more music
viola? what the fuck is that shit lmao
mpo admin the instrument your watching right now
I am now 37, and though some work disabilities have made it impossible to play, I love it still. I still have my Viola. Though she sits alone.... :(
I'm sorry for you friend :(
That comment made me sad :(

But it sill made me very sad :(
BLOBS I do remember and she still sits. But I have my memories of her and the Fort Worth symphony :)
Sad 😞
Never give up music. Try singing or other instrument. Lots of luck, my friend
Much better. She knows how to hold a viola. Excellent vibrato, clean shifts into 3rd and 4th positions. Excellent bowing.
Brian Swanson however it's useful to note that in the baroque period vibrato was not a thing yet and strictly speaking, vibrato is not allowed in pieces composed before 1760.

This is such a gorgeous concerto! The first movement is full of stately grandeur with moving hints of melancholy. The second movement is brilliant, the third thoughtful, and the fourth unforgettably delightful. This is a fine performance.
Beautiful concerto, excellent violist, amazing performance!
Rose Armbrust Griffin, you go girl! It's always more enjoyable when musicians look like they actually enjoy making music.
Absolutely stunning. Love the warmth and velvet sound of the viola. No wonder I play it myself....fond memories when I used to play this concerto many many years ago as an adolescent guy
Why does baroque music have such a calming effect?
In chamber orchestra we are playing the 2nd movement and we don't have a harpsichord
We need a harpsichord
cat not katniss same
I can’t even imagine a baroque orchestral piece without a Harpsichord
We have one in our music college but we need it for a concert which we will be playing bach's mass in b minor
My absolute favorite solo. Marvelously done.
music right from heaven thank you.
I enjoyed your performance. I love this concerto.
There is much wounded spirit in this music of Telemann's, and I get the feeling he is arguing with his own fate throughout this well-played piece.
Beautiful !!!
Great young Artists !!!
Great youth culture forever.!..!...!.....
I like music of Telemann because it is so peaceful, so gentle, like beautiful classic architecture.
I've been watching and practicing along to this video for five years now and I feel so old
such a charming viola concerto, and very polished beautiful performance. Thanks for posting.

AaronApanui1990 I play both violin and viola and viola is wayyyy more fun to play too
As someone who plays both instruments, I have to agree with you. If I have to choose which one I will play for fun, the Viola wins every time.

The viola is an underrated instrument, there should have been more concerti and solo pieces for it.
yeah man
What's the difference between a violin and a viola?
A violin looks small compared to its owner's big head.
Yes!
egs1505 : doesn’t diss viola
egotistic violinists: No! This isn’t how you’re supposed to play the game!
The way I describe it to people is that a violin is like an soprano in the choir while the viola is an alto. Although there is just one string difference, the body of the viola is bigger giving it a more mellow sound.
This video proves that violas do in fact sound good in the hands of a professional🙌
