Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin
Mateusz Molęda - conductor

I played this in front of my youth orchestra about a month ago because I won a competition with this piece! It's so fun!
Congratulations my boy. Keep it playing Viola, You will be the best. ;)
Congratulation!!from Buenos Aires Argentina...
Omg i have a competition in Jan
Congratulation for you!!! From Buenos Aires Argentina
I’m working on this piece too with my youth orchestra for concerto competition, but for cello
Now I know joke against violas is nonsense. Viola is as beauty as violin but bit deeper ton. Thanks for posting.

@Ron watch twoset uwu
@Ron they violonists jokes with violists as if violin was superior than viola
viola jokes r funny
Same with joke about bassists. I actually like the more mellow timbre of a viola.
Played this piece for my competition last month.

What tips would you give a fellow violist?

viola is my dad
-Viola is the instrument that reigns above
I remember when I was in college we played this at our concert. I realized that in some ways, viola is harder than violin. It's harder to find a good tone and keeping it that way when playing in higher positions.
this 🙌🏼🙌🏼 I wish more violinists understood this about us and respected us more, I don't get why they see us as a lower specimen or something 😂
Yes exactly, viola is more difficult to get good tone than either cello or violin, and when it is getting good tone, it sounds better than either cello or violin.... And here, this gentleman is good, but he a bit of sizzle going on the top A string... Hmmmm❤😢
@@MisterBarr I've played all of the usual bowed string instruments (barely any Bass but that doesn't prevent me from being able to rank the difficulty) and Bass is easily the hardest, with Viola being a little bit easier. Cello is easier than Viola by a fair bit, then Violin is by far the easiest.
The best instruments would be Viola/Cello (I can't decide between the two, they're both so good!) with Bass being almost as good as them and then Violin being the worst (not BAD, just not as good. It's still better than most non-keyboard instruments)
Absolutely right. I played violin, but I couldn’t stand the E string. Eek -the Viola is much harder than the violin for me, but it’s worth it every painful minute.
Our concert master said the viola would not interest him implying. It was too easy for his great skill. Ha.
I play violin and viola and I find violin much easier to play compared to viola. Tone is harder to achieve on viola but also when played well it sounds better.

a wonderful rendition for an great piece, writen for an underrated instrument.
the violas are beautiful 💙
And sadly underrated
My goal is to master the first movement by February because I'm playing this for regionals solo and ensemble😭😭. ILL COME BACK
gl
Eyou. Cómo vienes con tu preparación?
Good luck I’m doing the second movement in January 🥹 hopefully it will sound as musical as him.
How'd it go??? have you played it yet? I'm thinking about mastering the first movement for next year's S&E; I know the notes and rhythms and can play it at a passable level but I make mistakes and it's very unrefined expression-wise.
I don’t care about the fact that this piece is not by JC Bach, I simply just love this piece! Henri Casadesus did a great job recreating and presenting the old style to the people of 20th century! While added more repertoires for the viola! He SHOULD NOT be called a fraudster of the classical music world, he is a gifted composer and a virtuoso!
Do people actually call him that?
Seems insane. I don't know his other music, but this is gorgeous.
Superb.....BRAVO Maestro.....from Mexico City!
@@thefisherking78 yes it was fraud. The casadesus brothers published it as a newly found bach piece but it turns out they wrote it. Its great work and still an important part of viola repertoire just overshadowed by a pretty big lie in the music world. It goes to show, however, how people will call something a masterpiece if it has an important name attached to it like Jackson Pollock and others who the CIA funded during the cold war.
@@miguelmarquez4192 This is not a scam. Many 20th-century composers who wrote in a classical or romantic style had to use other people's names to avoid being bullied by music critics. And only after their composition became widely known, the musical community became aware of their authorship.
@@miguelmarquez4192 For example, Fritz Kreisler:
Viola power
Came here for some damn good viola! For all the flak us violinists give them, they can sound pretty good in the hands of a master like Mr. Kim!
That third movement just came out of nowhere
Bravo! This is the piece that sealed the deal for me to become a violist.
Finally, someone who knows how to play this concert properly.
Congratulations
I’m former violinist switched to viola. I fell in love in this instrument when I’ve heard Hoffmeister’s viola concerto. And then I’ve recognised how many beautiful compositions were written for viola, including this one. Viola one love❤️🎻
There are 6 beautiful viola pieces by Sitt for viola and piano available for free on IMSLP. I am an amateur violist who just finished the Sitt pieces and am now working on this.
I’m working on this concerto. It’s pretty difficult. I’m not even confident with treble clef lol. But I think studying this video could help a lot.
I'm in 8th grade and I used this for my all state audition :)
@@peelysl Omg. How was your audition experience like? I want to audition to a symphony orchestra, but I'm not familiar with what challenges I'd have to expect. You must be so talented at such a young age. I'm 21 and I can't be play fast on my instrument or ever auditioned somewhere.
@@peelyslhave you ever tried Telemann viola concerto in g mag?
@@Apple-ld3yc I love the Telemann concerto! it's so energetic and flowy, the first movement is so pretty. I also love the fourth movement, something about the eighth notes is encapsulating.
Cuando yo era niño el primer y segundo movimiento era un objetivo lejano, hoy es una meta posible y tu interpretación es una referencia importante para mi.
I won a concerto competition with the third movement of this piece recently!!!! I’m 14 years old and can’t wait to play the whole piece sometime
This piece is so great man you’ll definitely enjoy it. I’m working on the 2nd and 3rd movements rn. Any tips for the 3rd movement?
This interpretacion is amazing! really! Great musicians and a wonderful soloist! Bravo to the musicians! and thank you Mateuz Moleda!
Amado Dominguez Amaro Thank you very much for your compliments! I feel very honored!
This blows my mind now. Cant even begin to imagine the emotions of those people back then when it was first played.
I direct a small chamber orchestra and would like to play this. Does anyone know where we could get hold of the version for strings only? The music hire company only have the full orchestral version, and deny all knowledge of a version for viola plus strings. Thank you!
I'm looking for the same version. Did you have luck with it? 🙏
maybe check on imslp?
I'm playing this for a Beethoven competition this month
Probably should have practiced a bit more 'cause I don't exactly sound like LingLing

I am playing the first movement as a solo at the end of this month, and it is really fun to play!
How did it go?
Simply the best rendition I've ever heard! I love how especially in the third movement the soloist doesn't stick to the same tempo but takes slow and fast parts!
+Harpistry Thank you very much, I think I can speak for all of us: we are delighted you like our performance!
Very much so, thank you! I would love a copy of the score if it is available to buy or download!
Unfortunately we had to lend out ourselves the score, as it is not available in the internet...

What a great piece to start the morning with
Love the mellow small deep sound of the instrument as the viola sits between the violin and cello
Adoro la viola , una belleza !!
Bach (el padre) aprueba esto.
なんて美しい音色なんだろう!
The greatest music and the most beautifull playing!

Mr. Kim deserves a medal for the last movement! Very difficult! Well done! I love his beautiful intimate sound.

beautiful music!
It is not in the style of J.C.Bach. Casadesus wanted people to think it was by J.C.Bach but later admitted that he wrote it.
Intriguing that is indeed
Ohhhh that's why it is "by Bach/Casadesus, that's pretty cool
Ok so JC Bach is different Johann Sebastian right? Then who is this other Bach
@@Halo-lg7rq one of his maaaaaany children
I learning this piece currently. And although im not as good as him. I believe that he might need to check 12:23 because it was out of tune
@Ivy Kelly No he has a point though. Hundreds of thousands of people are hearing this piece and this person is a professional violist. If he makes a mistake, he should be criticized for it. Don't forget that many of the viewers are listening to this piece to learn from it. Also he wasn't insulting the player, merely giving him constructive criticism.
@@j-quizzle6161 Although you're right, it's more so about being understanding of these mistakes. No musician is perfect, and we shouldn't expect them to be, even if they're professionals. Imagine the nerves he's going through plus the million thing he's thinking about: phrasing, intonation, and plus he's playing a lot from memory. Criticism is useful, but focusing on minor mistakes in the grand scheme of the thing comes off as nitpicking. No need to point them out when the musician themselves is probably the most conscientious about their mistakes and will kick themselves the most for messing up; I'm speaking as a musician myself. This is just my opinion 👌
@Peripatetic Mind I totally agree with you, no musician is perfect. @Lydia Roh, please look at the positive side Kim has produced also the 12:23 is not an easy part. Kim must have noticed and not necessary for you to point out. Musician lives with mistakes and they will rectify it during the next performance.
He simply missed the shift. No big deal. We saw him nail it in the beginning. No performance is completely flawless because we are human. Total respect for this performance!
@@DannielleElliott agreed with everything you said, although I don't think anyone was insulting Mr.Kim's performance here, I mean why would they, this was amazing! And the shift miss wasn't as bad as it could have been so yeah even his mistakes are good
I like this piece. I want to practice it
So nice 👍👍👍👍👍❤️
Wonderful playing!
I’m confused…I thought Robert Casadesus was a pianist. Is this a different Casadesus what does this Casadesus have to with Bach.
Not Robert, but Henri Casadesus: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_Casadesus
It was a short-lived fashion to write music "in style of " and then put that composers name on the piece. Henri Casadesus did exactly that. Which later has resulted in many thinking his music is fake, and doesn't deserve to be played or even mentioned. (At least among musicians I have met).
But if we look beyond the name Casadesus put on his work, and think of it as a work of Casadesus I think they are worth a little attention. So I am glad to find this on UA-cam. Maybe the taboo will go away!
4:30 2nd movement "Adagio molto espressivo"
10:29 3rd movement "Allegro molto energico"

Bravo!
He does this without a shoulder rest!! An amazing but, isn't it painful???
It's just a very different way of approaching the instrument. It's not painful if done properly.
Rosa Ortiz As violist and violinist, I'm constantly changing my setup, sometimes I like to play my viola without shoulder rest, sometimes I like yo play with a different chinrest, so I'm always searching for new combinations of both violin and viola
Most likely it’s a baroque viola
I have the idea to learn playing the viola but there is a great problem because my left biceps have a broken tendon and so I cannot high with violin or viola. So i have to stand the viola on my upper leg.
Please, do any, any viola-player for my have advises how to do the studying with results ? ? many thanks for your thinking !
@@c.g.marseille4510 the viola doesn't need to be held as high aloft as violin. Perhaps try a centre chinrest and having your scroll more in front of you and lower so that your bicep isn't as activated. Good luck. ❤
