Would I like to have one... yes. Would I have one... no. 🙂It would really increase the speed of me sliding down my front hill though.
I think in the heat of the summer this would be good if you are mowing a lot of open area. Also, as you age the heat is tougher to deal with as well as those who like to mow but the dust is an issue with your body. Like a lot of things in life, you have tradeoffs.
Florida lawn companies definitely need a few of these. I used to mow semi-pro with my father and it's not the high temps that get you, it's the humidity. I used to walk outside at 8 am and start sweating immediately, not even working yet. The humidity in Florida will take your breath away!! 🥵
Yes it will but you get used to it after a few summers and springs
Brother I grew up in the south and move to California for 3 years with my wife. Now it's seems like the humidity is ridiculous here now. I literally can't do she after 8am and before 8pm...maybe California made me soft lol
@OmegaRabbit82 lol California is different from the south I lived in Georgia and California...they are so different it feels like another country ..California is nice but I think it's nicer in places like smaller towns or during holidays in big cities where it's slightly less traffic but I loved san diego ..hope you and wife enjoy California!!!
💥 Just when I thought you couldn’t get any cooler. 🥶 Great video Tim and Christy.
*Keep on tractoring!*
COOLER 😆
Looks like a wonderful option for operators in the desert. For myself, no! What I'd really like is an air conditioned cab, with stereo, for my chain saw. Maybe on tracks, with room for a small size grand piano! That'd be a surefire way to save resources, and at the same time, toughen up the hard working population! I think the cab on Z-turn is a great idea, and cheap at half the price!! Should take the world by storm! Factories won't be able to keep up, but we can outsource and do China a solid! The whole scenario is so fantastic!! Thanks, Tim, for the 'heads up'!
Here in Texas, if your land is mostly flat and if you have really bad allergies….it’s definitely worth it! I’m looking at acreage now and I’ll definitely be getting this. Cut grass and dust makes my eyes swell shut and lungs to close up fast! This is exactly what I’ve needed. Getting a cooled tractor and UTV also!
being a lifetime small engine mechanic as auto and marine I love the noise and sound of my engines period
just think you the wife and I could go out to the finest steak house and get wagu and bison and the drinks and still have enough let over for another you know anther tractor or others toys of course the wife has to have her full length rabbit fur coat and that exquisite 1 of a king guitar collection and a dragster tractor for the local Indiana state star tractor pull hee haw
Great idea for some, most people use them around low trees and shrubs so it wouldn’t work unless mowing big open areas, with opening I could see the dirt and grass getting inside, my neck freezing while my feet are sweating
My Ferris was just shy of $11g, and I LOVE mowing with it! I'm 62 and live in the middle of Missouri, so upper 90s and lower 100s are the norm. Once day a week, I mow for 7 hours, so more than doubling the cost of my mowing investment wouldn't work for me. It might be worth it for a lawn company that mows 5 or 6 days a week, but not me.
Great video, you guys! 😆
I think this is a great idea. I've worked for small, medium and corporate landscape companies. You have a very valid and strong point about employee retention. But from my experience dealing with equipment management, bigger companies like to replace their mowers 3 to 5 years. So they would have to think it's worth it for that much money for 3 to 5 years. Now golf courses, large estate, schools, colleges, parks, etc might be would be a good investment for sure.
For me to little use and to much use (the more you use and hard on the machine the quicker replacement) isn't worth it, but if the equipment in that medium use range, they want to keep it more than 5 years, less abusive environment and they have a good maintenance program, it would be well worth it. I'm like you, I would like to try it as well! You did a very good job pointing everything out.
Most companies replace with the same mower models so it would all transfer over at that point
I recently got the Kubota zd1211 with the cab enclosure, I've had a chance to use it once so far, and I REALLY USED IT, 4 acre lot, with vegetation in some areas 4-5 feet tall. Didn't cool very well in vegetation that tall, but once I got it knocked down, I was comfortable, and not getting all of the excess grass and dust was a plus. I'll keep you posted. DeSoto Texas
This is an amazing solution to those with allergies or for us that use our strong for leaf collection which is incredibly dusty with the material collection system. Would be a game changer.
You brought up a good point about hearing protection. My wife has a 1996 John Deere 425 and you can mow with it without hearing protection. I use a 2009 Ferris zero turn and definitely need hearing protection!
Spending a fair amount of time in a ztr on the farm, I've thought a bunch of times that a cab would be really nice, especially because I'm not getting fine grass clippings pushed into me, but poison ivy and ticks, and don't forget the yellow jackets! However, the answer to that has been to just use the ztr in the yard and around the fence, and do everything else with the tractor and bush hog. Even without a cab, it's a MUCH cleaner experience that will last many more hours. That's the other thing about a ZTR, the chassis last longer, but you're replacing hydro motors, pumps and the engine at around 1000 hours, so doubling the price of a machine is already expensive per hour to run would give me pause.
My moms got a 2004 Ferris. That ac would be great here in humid Alabama.
That cost more than the factory installed mouser cab I got with my 2022 JD 1025r. Almost double the cost. I wouldn’t pay that for something you only use seasonal, where I can and will mine on my tractor year round. Thanks Tim.
Such a great idea, would love to run one with it. Tint the windows really dark and that thing will probably be an ice box.
Have a heater in it also & change out the deck over to a snow thrower or sweeper that will make me purchase.
I would love to have a A/C cab on my ZTR I mow a airport about 350 acres a big part is with the ZTR around the edge of the runways and around all the runway lights I live in central OK and it's gets very hot here in the summer time
Not for small yards but for big fields and houses in 100 ° heat with 98 % humidity yes sir!!! Keep you from dropping your performance from exhaustion.
Thanks for the look at the cabs. I think for some this will be a great blessing. Hope you have a great day enjoy watching your videos
I instantly thought it'd be good for someone with allergies or a problem with dust.
I think it's a great idea only problem I see is when you get up around trees and things like that but for big wade areas, I think it would be an absolute awesome thing to have
If you cutting everyday for a living yes it will be great . I can see myself buying one I’will look into finding a apartment or nursing home
Now that would be amazing to try!
I bought the Kubota, air is so cold it makes my nose run. Has not been very hot in Alabama yet this year. (Yet) great video!
I can see this working for a commercial landscape company. I can visualize lawnmower maintenance getting more complicated too.
It is a great Idea and it looks good on the machines.
I am prone to summer colds (Going from cold to hot air) so i'd prefer to just have a cover from the sun and a fan...or two.
Tim, I have a zero turn. I guess if I could afford a cab. It would be nice but I want to see demo of one in Arkansas heat and humidity.
Nice job Tim and I would most definitely would like a cabbed Ferris. I will be replacing my current IS2000Z for the 2024 mowing season and I will be exploring the Curtis option.
Tough call. Love the idea. Even asked about it for Deere at last year's Equip show. At $22k for the mower and $13K for the cab, you are approaching 1575 and 1585 territory. With a 1575 0r 1585 you also have the capability to use a mower, snow blower, broom or blade. Also have the option for a stereo. Would this be available through Deer? (Able to be financed with mower)
I live in the dusty hot south. So, yes. Especially Ferris.
YES !!!!!!!!! Just show me where to sign !!!!
I would need to see one my self to . & theres a modle that I need to know about to .
Thanks for showing us the Curtis Cabs! They add a unique look to the zero turns! I like the idea of keeping the heat and dust away. The price makes for a BIG obstacle however! The cab is potentially in the way near objects and so it may depend on how and where you use it or if you can modify the area for its use. However my approach to mowing my theoretical estate (I am thinking of a real house that I can't afford) is to use an old IH Cub tractor on the flat area between the fence and the sand road. This area cannot be kept as nice lawn and putting the abuse on an old Woods belly mower will be best. The main part of the lawn would be done by multiple Husqvarna robot mowers. The main tractor for the estate would be a John Deere 4066R with cab and all the attachments I can think of! Many of the attachments can also be run by an old 4020 John Deere which I would have for when two tractors are needed and/or just horse power for the chipper and the like. ON a different lawn and location I have been telling the owner to get a USED Toro 5910 (cab version) because it would mow the lawn vary fast and not cost much more than new zero turns! It would last a life time! Use a Ventrac with the MT720 offset mower to trim under trees where the Toro is too wide to go on this particular estate. So I guess my real problem is that my plans do not include Zero Turn mowers! I have thought that the Country Clipper Avenue 42 inch zero turn would be good in a small area or as a trim mower. I like the joystick steering on it!
If I could afford it I would totally buy this assuming it’s a quality product and not a gimmick. A/C and shelter from sun and dust, heck yeah man.
Having a zero turn and very little shade while mowing, yes ! Cooler environment while mowing would be welcome.
Even a municipality that is in a warm climate. It would make it much easier to deal with the dust, and other road noise. Also if you are mowing in a rain condition.
Another great informative video Tim! Appreciate your time!
To answer the question about "would I buy one?"... No sir. The cab height would be an issue, but the price is too high for me as a homeowner. Would I use one if giving one to try free of charge? Absolutely! But it's simply not practical for us at this time.
Keep up the good work Tim & Christy! STAY SAFE!
Tim - appreciate you sharing this information. Your no-nonsense technical approach to discussing topics like this is top notch. You and Christy make a great team! One thing I would have liked to have seen is the controls used to operate the air conditioning system. What controls are available and are they conveniently located?
If I had more money than I knew what to do with I would buy one in a heart beat. We live in south central Missouri and in the heat of summer when it's windy it is never fun mowing. It take me 4 hours to mow all of our lawn area with a 60 inch zero turn so an air conditioned cab would be wonderfull.
To use, We run almost all John Deere Mowers & Tractors. We live in Central PA, Very hilly, the John Deere Z994 at 25 HP does not have enough HP to run the mower deck & pull a hill. So not sure how much power an A/C Compress will take away.
They say 1-2hp.
Certainly a market and I think they would be great to protect from everything you mentioned and additionally the sun, the sun shad and tint I feel would make a big difference.
Not cheap but what is these days...
We mow 25 acres per week, in 2 days. Ac would be great for about a week in August but a heated cab would be nice for April-June and Sept-Dec. But 13k is too expensive for the average landscaper. I imagine they're target market is municipalities.
Probably mostly going to be municipalities that will use those I think. Pretty darn cool though!!
Grass, wind blown dirt and of course noise is why I sold my zero turn. Use a cab mower now and a trimmer.
Yes
Homeowner of a Deere 997, that's a heavy hit money wise for AC, but those 90* +, humid days in
south Louisiana causes me to think.
Right now have it rigged with 10,000 Lumens of forward facing LED lights and mow mostly at night
when it's really bad (can still be 90* at sundown).
If they would have a unit to fit that really works, would be tempted.
Thanks Tim.
Love it Tim!!! Good stuff. Would love to see it at your place review
For ac and mowing yea but they make down plow for zero turn to so cab would work in both but supposed to come out with a snowblower for zero turn grass hopper has one . But would be cool if they added heat in the cab to in Wyoming plowing drops -0 at night we plow when no one is in parking lots or side walks on property’s but in mowing it’s not that way but I think it’s a really cool idea or if they made a heater add on for it
I do see how this can be good in the dog days of summer and the frigidness of winter. However, I'd like to see them develop this for Grasshopper's front mount ZTR.
For me , we have a JD 930M 54" deck, with 13 bushel dump from the seat material collection system, think I would have to trim all my trees and bushes, think the scratch resistance windows and doors after a few mowings would show lots of wear and tear.
Make one for a scag, m and I'm all in.
I wish Deere would give us air conditioned cabs in the 1 & 2 series tractors
Amen to that!
That’s why I went with kioti, glad I did
@@aaronrroy what model do you have ??
Gerat video. Excellent information. I mow my grass using a tractor with cab and air. When I started farming, combines were all open station. I doubt any farmer would want to go back to them. Beside if one can afford 20 grand plus for just a lawnmower, 13 grand extra for health and comfort doesn't seem unreasonable.
Just wait until you grab the low hanging branch to the top of that cab. Ooofff! That would be an expensive hazard
Cut the branch before you drive the mower into it won’t cost you anything .
It will be a great addition for the lawn care people to stay cool in the HOT 🔥 summers don't think it would be something a home owner could use only once a week, and say say it pays to have it.... not for a one acre homestead... GREAT video Tim, try to get one in your area... cost might be to high....
That's a "cool" option, great for a mowing business or a homeowner with a large lawn.
If I had to mow, I'd definitely own this. Who can resist AC when doing an endless mindless task in the beat down sun?
I would love it.
I think these are great, but vertical integration would be ideal. John Deere, Kubota, Ferris, etc should start building the machines with Cabs in mind and offer a solution from the factory. This is where a partnership with Curtis would help save money to the consumer. All in All, I think they did an excellent job with the Form, Fit, and Function.
Cabs on these mowers must take a beating being pulled down the road at 60 mph. These cabs would be great for large estates or golf courses. Hope you can get one to try out next summer.
Good point! Until I moved to my farm recently, I towed my Ferris 3 hours each way at 70mph. I seriously doubt that cab could take that, but even if it could, it would just kill the fuel mileage of my truck.
This cab has been tested at 80mph. I think it would be fine, as there is no way for air to get ‘under’ it like a similar canopy.
@@TractorTimewithTim Good to know! Thanks, Tim! 😆
Hi Tim & Christy
I’ve been watching your videos since you had your first tractor and find them entertaining and informative. A little off topic but I have a 1026r that I bought new in 2012 without a backhoe, but recently got a good deal on a used/unused 260b and put it on. The question is if you know of a fix for the brake linkage on the right side as the subframe bracket interferes with it. I had to butcher it in order to fit the subframe on, so I currently have no brakes but I will either cobble something up to make it work or buy parts if they are available.
I have pictures of what I’m talking about but I don’t see a way to post them on here.
If I can buy more trucks and trailers for the cost a cab with A/C...gonna have to tough it out in the heat.
I think you are right...in certain applications and with the right budget it would be a no-brainer. I don't think I could ever justify (or afford) one, but if money was no object....see ya' later deerflies!!! (One day I DO hope to upgrade my tractor to the cab model!)
I think that's a neat idea if you got a big farm you're out there all day wonder if you can tint the windows thanks from Gary
The windows are already tinted. I failed to mention that.
Ok that's super cool!
It's pretty cool. A pro lawn care company in the South might really appreciate that creature comfort.
Me personally... nah, not justifiable unless I was excessively wealthy.
I would love a cab on my zero turn mower I hate getting dirt all over me when mowing plus I live in Florida and the heat is terrible
I wish they could make that for my JD Z950M .
Turning into the wind is going to have dust blow at you no matter if it's a zero turn or a traditional mower.
I live in SE TX and mow with a Ferris zero turn. The ride comfort on a zero-turn is so much better than on a traditional mower. Then add the shocks that the Ferris has and it's almost like riding on a could. Anyway, in the heat of summer here if I could afford it I would love to have an AC cab for my Ferris mower.
With a tractor, one sits higher, so the clippings don’t bother as much. That was my thinking. Of course a smaller lawn tractor would be same as ztr. You are correct.
1.5t ac is an 18,000 btu unit. 12k per ton of refrigeration. About the same output as your average window shaker ac in a home.
I have been asking for this since 2017
Better late than never!
For a commercial operator, I think it would be an excellent investment. For a homeowner like myself who only uses my mower for half a day once every two weeks, it makes less sense. I think the deciding factor would be how much time you actually spend on the mower.
Well, that looks like a perfect 1st world solution to a 1st world problem. :) Great review!
I watch the new kubota dealer meeting and it was really not impressive at all I was hoping something new would come out but nothing but lx3520 and lx4020 were great though
Expensive but I would consider it. Keep in mind for the Ferris there are also Kawasaki powered 3000 series machines not just Vanguard.
The a/c is currently only fitted to the vanguard.
As a owner of a mowing company it would be nice. Problem is you can’t fit under trees and I would say you couldn’t mow the slopes we come across with that cab.
Interesting would like to try one I just a zero trun mower it's a bad boy zt avenger and I love it really cut down my mowing time price would be my nimice
Hey Tim!! This would be nice for someone that had a large acreage like yours. Flat, easy to mow, not a lot of trees to deal with. Me not so much. I'd have to clear and clearance cut a lot of trees. Also I would worry about it being too tippy in some areas.
Looks nice, but it is a hard pass for me. I have trees. Would be great in an open field though, but I think it would make more sense to have a single door on the front.
I love cabs with removable doors but the cost is just impractical found a 755 john deere compact with heat a cozy cab had to have it nice cab hard to find because of the cost.
Be great on concern is around trees
Trim them trees.
Help us lawn companies in FL make these for Hustlers, Scags and Wrights!
tell Curtis to make a AC kit for the 1025r mouser cab.
I like AC for tractors and mowers as you’re often on them for hours, and here in zone 9B, it gets very hot. But, for the cost of a John Deere Z994R plus the Curtis cab, your in the range of the John Deere 1585 front mower which has an AC cab, and has other attachments for the front PTO. I love your videos: you are so calm and seems like you’re just talking to a friend…nice
No, not really. $31,000 list for the combo 994R vs either $43,000 or $53,000 for 1585 with deck. I asked…but can’t remember which (43 or 53).
@@TractorTimewithTim - yeah, the ZTR option is definitely cheaper, but it’s getting up there in the front mower range, is all I was saying . The ZTR is always going to be more compact and more maneuverable as well.
I dunno. Front mower is quite maneuverable, and provides great visibility. I’d love to have a 1585….or maybe even a 16xx with the wider deck :-)
@@TractorTimewithTim - those front mowers can take attachments too, like a snow blower, though here in central Florida 9B, a snow blower isn’t adding any value for me, lol.
@@TractorTimewithTim The 1600 with a cab and 128 inch deck talks my kind of language! A home owner with say five acres to mow should find a used one at about the same price as a new zero turn without a cab. It would mow the five acres vary fast and therefor use less hours of run time per year putting less wear and tear on the machine so it would last longer. The metal parts would last more than 30 years but the rubber parts would get old in that time and need replacing.
Negatory there tractor rider! Our temp varies between 60° and 86° F. AC not needed
You're telling me they can make a cab for a zero turn but not the 2038r. I bet the sell alot of them
They (Curtis) make a cab for a 2038r. …but not with a/c.
@@TractorTimewithTim I've seen that one on rockhillfarms but it sure is ugly and without ac doesn't have much appeal.
I’m not gonna lie Tim, I’m still pretty dead set on a Ventrac. I just hope they can get something figured out for an A/C cab. Even though we have the Fanopy!
If they made one for a scag turf tiger I would order it right now.
Any chance you could put snow plows snow blowers or brooms on those pieces of equipment????
An accessory I added to my zero turn that I think everyone with a ROPS should have, is a canopy. I added one to mine and it makes a huge difference in the sunshine. If you could find one with a fan, like you demonstrated on your Ventrac, I think, it would be perfect.
Yea, the fan does help keep the grass away from your face.
Curtis does offer a nice fan attachment for a canopy. It really moves a lot of air.
Tim, I couldn’t take that cold air blowing on the back of my neck. Also I wouldn’t think it would be great on hillside’s with a possible higher rate of rolling over.
Now I'm interested in a zero turn! Lol
I would think they would definitely need a auto reversing fan on the unit to keep from building up clippings and dust on the unit in back. Also how's the cab effects servicing the mower..
Probably not for me. I have too many trees to mow around. I even have to put the ROPS down. I do have a canopy that I use for my open mowing and when the sun is beating down on me that canopy is a life saver. So pass for me but I enjoy that you take the time to show your viewers products that are out there. Thanks for filming and sharing.
Trim your trees!
@@TractorTimewithTim LOL... I guess I could do that.
I bet you ready have to kept the condenser cleaned as well as the radiator do they have some kind of filter for the condenser as well as the cabin ?
Hey oh yes I think it’s a great idea. Kind of like if you’ve never had a four-wheel-drive pick up. When you get one you’ll never buy another 2 Wheel Dr. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Sounds like a lot of potential problems with grass clippings clogging the condenser. It's a niche market that doesn't include me anyway. I shall soldier on in the heat and not mow when it's too hot! :)
Insane price ,is it made of gold ?
Includes $700 shipping and installation at dealer. They say $12,000-$13,000. I’m always skeptical, so I just relayed the larger end of the range :-)
