I didn't even know there was a way to "beat" the sims 1? Maybe in storymode but in freeplay mode isn't it literally just like a real life SIMulation game? play however you want as long as you don't starve or burn to death because i think in the original game your character doesn't age so you can't die from old age.

The reason Sims 1 was so hard was because it didn't have any days of the week. Every single day was a work/school day, so you didn't have a weekend to use to catch your breath and socialize. No calling out of work, either. I remember as a kid hating that if I wanted my Sim family to have a family outing at a community lot, I had to take the grades/work performance hit of skipping a day.

Oml... Now that I think of it this is exactly why after I got frustrated by the harsh grind I just resorted to start my game with the Tutorial couple every now and then just to feel like I accomplished something; by bypassing the normal game runtime in the Tutorial stages by ignoring the steps and making the couple loop some days leveling up their skills and social needs lol... And when they got tired (this was when they already got a job while still in Tutorial mode) I just let them sleep the looping day off until they're well again, and let them go to work in normal hours, then repeat the looping madness again until every skill was maxed out, and only then I let the Tutorial finish and the couple could immediately live as the elites right out of Tutorial... Not to mention the cheat codes I often used... I was the complete opposite of my sister who did the grind very earnestly lol.

    • @SurprisinglyDeep

I'd just liks to add to what you said.
Most people can be okay even if they endure a financial catastrophe so long as they adjust their living standards and expectations at least temporarily.
Even a homeless broke person can do unskilled temp jobs and just like take taxis, bicycle or walk to and from work.
Most temp jobs are honestly not that hard.
(Countless poor people in South America literally just have to walk to and from work everyday, no joke.)
If you go to a temp job and it's a temp job from hell, remember that if you arrived there on time and sober but the job is dangerous and you either have to leave or risk your life (I'm talking like ridiculously dangerous here) remember that in many places the temp job site or temp agency still legally needs to pay you for 4 hours.
You can use a homeless shelter, a post office or get the help of several charities to get a " personal address" for the temp agencies sign up sheets.
Many will lend you the stuff you need to do the jobs like loose fitting steel toed rubber boots, a safety vest and/or a hard hat you need to do most temp jobs.
At many if not most temp agencies it's always possible to get work even if you don't have a cellphone to accept temp jobs the nest day. Just show up early each morning to the temp agency and take whatever job is offered.
Even if someone cannot wash themselves, it's always possible to just use wet wipes to clean your armpits and "where the sun don't shine" as well as just wear a different pair of clothes each day so that it limits the stench. Also many temp job people smell terrible, so you will not stand out too bad even if you stink so long as it's just a "too much sweat" type of stink and not a "rotting melons" type of stink.
Like push comes to shove you can buy a new $10 3 pack of shirts and a new $10 to $20 pair of wal mart jeans every week if need be.
Then you could get a job at like a warehouse by regularly temping for them or use the temp agency as a job resume reference to get a low paid job at like Mickey D's or Wally's World.
Many temp agencies will let you just pick up your daily and/or weekly cheque at the temp agency each week. No need to mail it out.
Also this does not include the option of crashing with a friend for a short period of time until you find an apartment or basement suite to rent.
My main point of all this was that so long as someone is mentally and physically healthy enough, they can work their way back up even from what seems like a bottomless pit.

    • @CoralCopperHead
      @CoralCopperHead Рік тому +1

@@SurprisinglyDeep "My main point of all this was that so long as someone is mentally and physically healthy enough, they can work their way back up even from what seems like a bottomless pit."
So, it's impossible to pull it off due to the overwhelming circumstances naturally taking a toll on their mental and physical health, gotcha.

    • @SurprisinglyDeep
      @SurprisinglyDeep Рік тому

@@CoralCopperHead Nothing that's physically doable is impossible. Also when someone hits rock bottom the only 2 things to do are either to die or climb back up.
Should governments help poor people more? Yes. Is it very hard to climb back up from the bottom? Yes. Are some people literally incapable of working? Yes? Is it impossible for most people? No.
The main issue facing developed countries is that it's very hard to go from working class to middle class or to stay middle class, not that's it impossible for most people to go from homeless to working class.
If someone lives a bare bones existence for a few years like they just spend the minimum necessary on food, do not eat out, make their only entertainment the free books and films from the public library, just have like jogging and/or bicycling as a hobby, make their only phone a flip phone that uses minutes card, just use the wifi at the public library and a cheap old laptop for internet use, use a bicycle and/or the bus instead of a car (or only drive when necessary if biking or bussing is not possible), only buy new clothes when necessary, etc then after years of savings its possible to save up money even if someone's not paid well so long as someone can get a full time job or is at least able to work enough hours 5 days a week.
(While part-time only jobs are indeed trash, there are thankfully many employers out there who NEED full time workers even if the workers have few if any special skills.)
Countless people across this planet in poor countries like Mexico, India and Bangladesh as well as in America itself literally need to walk hours to and from work each day. They do and have done so successfully for decades to care for themselves and their family members.
Many illegal immigrants from Mexico and South America living and working in Long Beach California buy themselves $100 bicycles from Walmart to bicycle to and from a park each day so that they can accept under the table work from shady employers.
Bicycling.com How Low-Income Cyclists Go Unnoticed
Both TV Tropes and Wikipedia have articles entitled Rags to Riches. (TV Tropes has the real life section at the bottom.) If some person can go from dirt poor to rich then many people are capable of going from dirt poor back to middle class.
There is so much temp work in big communities and most of it is so simple and easy to do that if God forbid someone lost their job one night that the next morning they could walk into a temp agency and get a temp job so long as they had a $10 hardhat, a $20 safety vest and a pair of like $70 steel-toed safety shoes from walmart. They could then get temp work for each work day until they found a replacement job.
Most people who hire out temp workers from the temp agencies are grateful to have temp workers there at their job sites to do the work that needs doing since it means their full time workers don't need to spend time or manpower doing it.
Most of the time temp work is incredibly simple work that's not too physically demanding.
I know the stuff I said above about temp work is true from personal experience. I temped full time for a year. Before that I worked 5 years in a car parts warehouse where like 2/3rds of the staff was full-time temps. (I was a full-time temp myself there my first year.) Also I used someone from a temp agency as a job reference to later get employed at a full-time job somewhere else.
While I'd say I'm fairly liberal in terms of politics those experiences changed my previously bleeding heart liberal views somewhat.
(I'd said I'm more politically moderate or so called radical centrist then anything, although I know full well political views are like butts and everyone's got one.)
Those 2 experiences made me realise that while some people literally cannot work or need help before they can work, many others literally just don't want to work even if that means always being homeless or poor.
Also I realised many people don't know WTF "working your way up", "having a plan" and "reaching different steps on a multi-step plan" are and/or just couldn't be bothered to do simple temp work for short periods of time. Like temps jobs are just one part of a plan, they don't have to be forever.
I worked temp jobs with loads of literal ex-cons recently released from prison, drug addicts, ex-drug addicts, old men and women over the age of 50, teenagers, ESL immigrants, homeless people, low functioning special needs people, teenagers, Native Americans who just moved to the big city from the rez, etc at different temp jobs. They all worked each day and got paid each day. They all did temping part-time or full-time for a living.
Also even if someone loses everything they own so long as they can eventually save up enough money to get an apartment or basement suite (maybe alongside a roommate) then they can start their life over again. Even if they move into an empty apartment at first they can eventually furnish it over time.

I just resubscribed!!! I had been a subscriber way back when you did all your sims videos as they were sooo hilarious. I had just been diagnosed with cancer and not much could make me laugh, but man, did your videos see me through some very hard times. Maybe weird to your regular subscribers but I'm in my 50's. My kids got me hooked on sims due to being bedridden and they knew that as an artis, how much I LOVE interior decorating and designing houses so they showed me how to play and oh, sooo much fun! Then, sadly (tragic for me, actually), my laptop died. I've never had a means of replacing it. It really sucks. Anyways, using my phone and going on youtube, I found you, callmekevin, and a couple other creators who made funny sims videos and I watch them all the time. I was so disappointed when you stopped making yours!! So, just to let you know, you've made me so happy!! (I know it seems like such a little thing, mabey, to most people, but for me, who can't do alot, it really does make me happy. ). THANK YOU!! Crystal

There's a way to play the game using a newer computer.
If you got a new laptop or desktop computer you could use a free virtual emulator computer program like VMWare or Virtual Box to run an older version of Windows (or any operating system) on your Window 10/11/whatever version computer as though it's a computer program running on your modern computer as a "virtual box", then run the Sims 1 computer prgram INSIDE OF that virtual box.

The Sims was for some reason a really hard game to play. The juggling act of friends, work hours, meals, happiness is truly challenging and rather cynical. My first and last sim was supposed to be my alternate virtual persona and the guy went mad because of his insane work hours, lack of friends and daily routine, not even a nicely decorated house and a dog could make him happy enough. It was a sorry situation.

As someone who also suffers from that, I wanted to add that one factor (out of many) is that we likely evolved the trait of excessive worrying in social situations, because exile in our past meant death. It's not really the case anymore. This is also true for paranoia, like being terrified there is a tiger in the bush whenever you hear something. 99% of the time it's nothing, but the person who wasn't being paranoid is now dead and thus these traits live on, vestigial but powerful.

In the Sims 1 friends required are linked to friends to the family. I always have at least 2 adults. One only for job, one only for taking care of the house and make friends. Also, in the Sims 1 the decor needed for the job is decided by the nearest decoration to were the car disappears. Since your SIM is kept out of the map during work time, but close enough decorations improves environment mood.
