    I lost 100 lb simply by cutting the carbs out of my diet and focusing on protein and fat. This was before I even started working out. Fat burning is a much better way to live than the roller coaster of carbs.

      The only reason you lost weight is because by cutting out carbs, you eat less, thus consuming less calories. Eating carbs are much easier than eating protein or fat - try eating 500 grams of chicken breast and then try eating 500 grams of rice, much more difficult. A more sustainable way would be to eat everything as you do just in smaller portions. The only physically possible way to loose fat is to eat less calories than you burn (TDEE). If you want to get into the topic of weight loss vs fat loss then be my guest. If you weren't resistance training next to cutting carbs, out of those 100lbs, I would say at least 20lbs were muscle and another 20lbs from water weight loss.

      Don't worry about everyone who tells you your doing anything wrong. I lost 52 pounds while increasing muscle mass significantly but people told me it's not possible. I was and still am resistance training. Upper day, lower day, day off for 3 years. I think everyone is different and that something that works for you may not work for me. I'm still on a 18:6 IF schedule on ketovore with protein at 1 gram per pound. In addition, once every 2 months i do a 4 day fast. I've been told how stupid I am on several posts but I don't care. OBTW, I'm 63 so it's never too late. good luck!

    The Keto diet is the best for my cutting cycles. I found calories get reduced naturally from less consumption of added sugar and carbs. The only thing that is added is some minor cardio through walking on my regular workouts/cardio. The easiest way to go Keto is to just start reading labels for zero sugars and eat when hungry. Periodic fasting is a nice way to kick things into gear if you can manage.
    For me I use a biometric scale and app. I am very high BMI at 50 but because of my higher than average skeletal/muscle mass (the scales are hilarious for me to read on the attached app), but I am within normal bodyfat. To counteract muscle loss is to just eat more proteins and fat. Creatine will help if you feel like you are getting dehydrated.

    Tldr version here. Youre welcome:
    In this comprehensive discussion on ketosis and the ketogenic diet, the speaker provides a deep dive into the biochemistry of metabolism, particularly focusing on how the body transitions between burning glucose and fat as fuel sources. The conversation emphasizes the pivotal role of insulin in determining which fuel source the body utilizes, explaining that high insulin levels promote glucose burning, while low insulin levels encourage fat burning. As the liver metabolizes fat, it eventually produces ketones, which serve as an alternate fuel source, especially beneficial for the brain. The speaker cites numerous studies demonstrating the advantages of ketones, including their ability to enhance cognitive function, increase the metabolic rate of fat tissues, and protect muscle cells from injury. Furthermore, anecdotal experiences are shared regarding the effectiveness of a ketogenic diet in promoting fat loss and maintaining cognitive clarity.

    Really like this interview and Dr Bikman. But my confidence in him was shaken a bit by his blanket assertion that Zero drinks are bad and Diet drinks are okay because Zero drinks have Sucralose and Diet Drinks have Aspartame only. Coke Zero actually has aspartame and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K) in the US formula, not Sucralose. Same with Pepsi Zero. I agree Sucralose is good to avoid, but going by Zero vs Diet is not an accurate answer for avoiding. The acesulfame potassium in some Diet drinks (not Diet Coke) and Zero drinks has been shown to increase insulin, so there’s that to watch out for. Probably best plan is avoid all artificial sweeteners as much as possible. Natural rare sugars like Allulose appear to be a great alternative.

    I cannot agree with the idea that we do not need carbs at all, because for example fruits tend to be very balancing and even decongesting after a heavy fatty meat meal for many people. This occurs in people who have a hard time digesting meat and animal fats, and there are many of them. So, what do you do in those cases? How would they get balanced without the fruits?

    • @nedhill1242
      @nedhill1242 20 годин тому +2

      You do not need to eat carbs. The body actually manufactures carbs if needed. And I don’t know anyone that can’t eat meat. You would need to provide actual verifiable credible data to support that. Also, fruit today has been grossly modified to be bigger and sweeter. Depending on what it is fruit is not good. But some berries are.

    • @orchidmuse

      It is known that a human doesn't need carbs in order to exist. Opposite to that, a human cannot exist without protein and fat. We eat fruits etc. because we want vitamins, but meat and eggs contain more vitamins and minerals by the same product density. I don't agree with carnivore diet which excludes all carbs, I am pro Keto with ca. 20g carbs from vegetables a day to the protein and fat - which is roughly 500g of zucchini or broccoli or green salad. It's fiber, it's vitamins and it's minerals in addition to those in meat. And those vegetables don't contain much sugar and fructose. Fructose in fruits is known to destroy our liver, cause inflammation in the gut and make us hungry and carb addicted. Like anything which is sweet.

    • @nedhill1242
      @nedhill1242 19 годин тому

      @
      Keto & Carnivore are basically the same. Keto focuses more on ratios & macros especially in regards to fat & protein. In the beginning you should be 70/30 fat to protein.
      We do not need to eat carbs. Keto doesn’t require carbs. The 20g/day is not a rule but more a rule of thumb to ensure ketosis but some people actually need to eat even less carbs to get into ketosis which is why it’s important to test your blood & ketones with a meter at home.
      It’s also helpful to know your ratio by dividing your blood glucose by your ketones. 80 or less you should be burning body fat. 40 or less is autophagy which is when you really start repairing your health. 20 or less is therapeutic ketosis and can stop cancer and other diseases,

    • @orchidmuse
      @orchidmuse 19 годин тому +1

      @ don't say that in a carnivore community though 🤣😂 Keto and carnivore are both ketogenic, but not "the same", as their aim is different and carnivore doesn't require being in ketosis, as does keto. It's basically an elimination diet in order to reduce inflammation caused by carbs intolerance. Whereas keto has - like you have mentioned - therapeutical and non-therapeutical forms. The rest is interpretation, the balance between the macros is individual.

      I am not claiming you did something wrong, but on my own experience, low carb started with a wrong coach or based on self-research on youtube can cause lots of health problems.
      Of course we have to start from somewhere, but really, when we want a nice haircut, we go to a professional hairdresser. But when we try to solve important health issues we trust youtube... I know, I was one of those who "knows it all better ", only to find out a few years later I know very little and every day it is more to learn.
      Most health problems on keto/ carnivore, for example, come from too little fat, and our gallbladder isn't fat adapted for the required fat for beginners. Lots of butter causes problems with digestion, reducing butter kicks you out of ketosis.
      Apropos ketosis - if one doesn't know how to help oneself, keto flu can make one feel weak, having headaches, muscle cramps and joint pain, like a real flu. There are methods to reduce that period or at least to explain it.
      The other problem is magnesium and potassium deficiencies. Vitamin E. and D, etc. But we have to figure out our balance individually, which takes time.

    but didn’t you say calories doesn’t count?? 🤔
    our brain thrieves on ketones; they are our body preferred source of fuel. But… why then ohr body always ALWAYS ALWAYS prefer to use glucose, and also produce glucose as its first choice, if ketones are a way better source of energy??
    why when all sudies compare high carb with low carb, when calories and protein are equated, all the study ALL THE STUDY find no difference in fat loss??
    i don’t think this doctor to be stupid or ignorant; so it’s just the other option left behing his bullshit: you are a lying villain!!!😤

    • @orchidmuse
      @orchidmuse 19 годин тому +2

      it is not wrong about calories, but let's say Energy for a moment instead.
      Our organism makes glucose for energy. It can have it either easy - from carbohydrates (the simplest and quickest one from sugar) or from fat, which is a very complex process in our organism - that'll be ketones.
      If you eat high carb diet (diet here being just a way of eating, not reducing anything), you either have to burn calories in excess eg. with sport and exercise, or reduce your caloric impact to maintain your weight. Why? In short, because glucose goes straight into you cells and if the cell is full it stores the excess as fat around your torso or where it likes. Actually, a healthy cell should not be big and able to make new cells. From too much glucose it gets bigger, lazier and just stores fat.
      There are of course people who are just able to absorb lots of carbs - lucky them!
      Now on Keto or on a zero carb diet, you don't have to burn the excess of glucose, because there's no as such. If you get your energy from fat, using ketones, the organism makes glucose in a complex way and very few, so there isn't an excess of glucose. Moreover, ketosis enables the cells to give up an excess of fat bcs. our organism searches for glucose and takes it from our storages. This means it burns "calories" which are stored in our cells and tissues.
      A calorie from fat isn't the same as a calorie from carbs. That's the hack. The one makes easy glucose and too much, the other makes just a few, only for our needs. We don't have another term for energy yet, it's calorie either way.
      For more scientific details please visit Dr. Bikmann's metabolic classroom.
