a lot of people complain about the big voids on the sides of the disney worlds, but imo, having those there serves as a really good reminder that you arent actually in those worlds and instead youre in the oppressive environment of the castle
Note that all the event rooms are ported from KH 1 or 2. This is proven by how in the Bizarre Room, the keyhole texture still exists behind the doorknob.
Great video as always! Castle Oblivion is such a cool concept. It reminds me of Mickey’s Castle of Illusions for Sega Genesis, one of my old favorites. I’ve always loved the white marble aesthetic, a stark contrast from Hollow Bastion. This and the rose motif established Marluxia as an elegant yet imposing villain, similar to Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh. There was a vampiric, otherworldly quality to the Organization in CoM. Of all the “missing pieces” in KH3 (Twilight Town, Radiant Garden, etc) I feel Castle Oblivion was the most egregious missed opportunity. It should have been a proper dungeon, even if it was just a string of hallways with strong Heartless and Unversed. KH3’s story had frequently referenced the fact that Sora could not remember Chain of Memories-why would there not be a moment where Sora finally revisits the castle and gets his memories back? Gameplay-wise, it would have been a perfect opportunity to fight alongside Aqua (and actually see her struggling, setting up her loss to Vanitas). Most importantly, it would have improved the pacing of the Aqua/Ven rescues and provided a strong mid-game section. I’m astounded to this day that Nomura did nothing with the castle or the Chamber of Awakening/Repose, and now that the Land of Departure is back that potential is lost forever.
I can't help but focus on that Soldier in the background of Traverse Town's unknown room, pacing back and forth with it's arms flapping about like it's had too much to drink Hahaha.
Ah kay, you put in the other room features that you didn't cover in the stream, like the scallop creature in Monstro and and the third clock. Nice. That scallop creature that attacks you originates from KH1 concept art of one of Monstro's chambers, but didn't show up in the final game. I liked how that got recycled.
I like how the rooms are smaller or bigger in some cases, or how some rooms look barely like the rooms they're based on. Here's why: think back, when you were around Sora's age, 6-8ish I think, can you remember the scale of all the places you went? I personally know my bedroom seems enormous in my head when I think back taht far, when in all actuality, it's probably the same size as the current ont I have. It really makes Sora feel like he's remember I the bare minimum of the places he went, much like a dream about a place you've been. Chain if Memories may have accidentally done something awesome. Knowing Numora though, it was probably on purpose.
FYI, while exploring the rooms in the GBA version, you watch Sora from the "southern" (down) part - the same side where the walls lack and the abyssal cliffs are - so maybe they decided to pay homage to the fact that this came from a version where you don't have the walls there :)
Castle Oblivion was always one of my favorite worlds to visit in the series. It immediately pulls you in with its somber and almost uneasy presence as though something tragic or terrible had happened there (which we all know did). The aesthetic and white gothic tones throughout the castle make it such a memorable place. It’s a shame Nomura didn’t feel compelled to have us traverse the castle in 3 before Aqua restored it. It would have been a great opportunity for us to see the Chamber of Awakening or perhaps a peek into Vexens experiments.
Chain of Memories GBA is one of my favorite games ever, played the crap out of it as a kid but Deep Jungle not being in the game never even occurred to me until now. Damnit, that’s wasted potential 😭
@@NovayonKH seems like the creators forgot:/ definitely one of the best worlds in the whole series. I’ll never forget being stuck forever on Clayton and stealth sneak either 😂
@@nickyl3884 It’s because Disney lost the rights to Tarzan and couldn’t regain them from the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate. That’s also why Deep Jungle isn’t in the manga. Deep Jungle was probably only cleared for 1.5 on the condition no new content was added.
@@tripoint23x I didn’t even realize it til basically just now 😂 that sucks they lost the rights because Deep Jungle with GBA style graphics is such a missed opportunity 😫
So for twilight time and guessing it’s mostly going to be when sora Exploring the world also for hollow bastion/radiant garden are you going to Include the caverns from remix
Personally, I think the GBA version had some aspects that make it worth playing through, for example the OST really shows what the system used to be able to pull off despite the hardware, especially the end credits theme (Simple and Clean obviously). That, and some scenes are done differently obviously, such as Axel being "more personal about it" when he kills Vexen.
I still have no idea why that stupid card system was implemented. I mean, Sword of Mana was released more than a year before this game, and it does Action RPG really well.
Warning; do not actually go into castle oblivion, yet alone dive into it. Castle oblivion and it's owners are not responsible for any damages, mental or otherwise.
Correction for 100 Acre Wood: you actually CAN go into Pooh's house, you just have to hit Triangle / Y on the door

Was about to go to sleep but I gotta watch this banger first

I think what's interesting is the Heartbeat in castle oblivions theme like it's the Heart of the castle.

Namine must have really hated the Deep Jungle.
Glad you did this in just 1 vid. As somewhat interesting as Castle Oblivion is, everything feels fundamentally similar

Soras 14 in kh1
@@rectalprolapse697 It would be pretty good if it was true, it is still something at least.
...Sora is a teenager.
I’ve always wondered what might have changed in this game if Deep Jungle had been an option and not removed due to copyright issues.
Maybe would have taken the place of 100 acre wood

The word you're looking for at 3:30 is "isometric" btw.
I can't believe Terra Aqua and Ventus used to live here.
Nice breakdown. The floating jar things with the red jewel look like the End of the World angel type Heartless.
Can tell a ton of work went into this one, awesome job dude!
I Absolutely Love The Mystery of This Place!

The bushes in the moogle room in the destiny islands segment look like they're forming a hidden mickey, but upsidedown from our perspective
Mfw when I forgot KH 1.5 was a collection and was trying to remember when could you visit CO in KH 1
wonder if you'll do 358/2 days, BBS, Re:coded and/or Dream Drop Distance?

if you got absolutely baked in Castle Oblivion you would get lost and paranoid
Especially if the rooms changed according to your memory - WHILE under influence. Imagine the horror and distortion!

Are you the guy from Final Fantasy Union?

I'm not but you're not the first person to compare us haha
i don't remember watching this video...but the red bar underneath the video thumbnail would say otherwise.
It appears that there's a Missing Link in your Chain of Memories
Neat
Why am I watching this
