I broke my ankle bone about 4 years ago. The year after I broke it I was getting pain on and off. Now for the past 2 years, I have had pain all the time, but it has now spread up my leg. At the hospital, I was told it was Arthritis due to breaking my ankle. Would these injections help me, I just feel that I am taking painkillers for nothing
I have athik tendonon the left side of my right leg after operating on the left ankle join it is strethced. It is stretchd to walk. Can I take this injection

Nicholas Granados difficult to predict. Depends on my factors- diagnosis, injection technique etc. In some cases a single injection is curative. In other the effect lasts for 3-6 months
does the ankle make an 100% recovery? Also ive had my ankle sprained now for the past 6 months and still struggle with pain, swelling, and a lost range of motion is this an option i should look into?
Hi Dr! I have had an MRI which shows a low grade partial thickness sprain injury in the deep deltoid fibres. My form says it shows increased fluid signal intensity and ill-definitiom. Superficial fibres are in tact. I recently saw a foot specialist and she believes I have anterior impingement. I can't bend my left foot back as far towards me as the other. I'm waiting to see an orthopedic surgeon in the next few months. Do you think a cortisone shot would help in my case? I have an event I'm trying to train for in August. But I'm worried I'll get hours into this event and start limping.
@@haylz3578 Honestly, as someone with absolutely no medical experience at all, I have no idea. I do know for a fact cortisone is great for inflammation and pain relief. I have had a couple of cortisone shots injected into my affected ankle, and for those with chronic pain, a cortisone shot every couple of years really does keep the doctor away, at least for a bit. I can also tell you that my ankle itself is capable of doing everything it used to be able to do, but it still gives me massive issues and occasionally a decent amount of pain, as cortisone is not a good long-term fix (to my knowledge). From what I understand, cortisone shots could even further damage your injured ligament in the long run if taken too frequently, and I'm not sure, but it may impact your anterior impingement as well. In my personal experience, I'd say try to expedite the meeting with an orthopedic surgeon and go to multiple if possible, just to get multiple opinions on whether a cortisone shot makes sense for you. If surgery is a viable option, though, go with that because, in the long run, it'll probably be the better choice. Again, I am not a doctor and don't know anything, please take everything I'm saying with a grain of salt. But also, as someone that rushed back into my sport of choice, definitely try to hold off if you can, especially if you know you won't be ready because if you reinjure yourself the same way, it will likely just cause more headache in the future and definitely a lot more pain.
I had mine done today and I didn't have any type of discomfort. I'm walking perfectly fine. The doctor used the thinnest needle. I guess that's the trick.

I was sent 75 miles for an ankle injection. Was told these could be done in office. Doctor refused to do it himself, and is making me be seen by a radiologist under fluoroscope. I am allergic to iodine, and do not want gadolinium unless it's necessary for life threatening reasons. Told the doctor I would just live with it. Since he is less that a year out of med school told him to go back since he's too big of a wuss to do an injection.

The range of movement lost due to mechanical impingement won’t improve but that due to pain should improve

Arthritis is common after ankle fractures. Injection is helpful in wary arthritis

This a good option to start with. An MRI scan should be done however before any invasive treatment is performed

Swelling can sometimes appear after any steroid injection. It usually settles within a week

MMA HIGHLIGHTS I would suggest avoiding impact for 2 weeks. Crutches are not usually required.
