From Brunei myself, there are many cars that we still don't know. Many gifted to friends, many passed down. The entire royal family also has many other cars, especially 1st and 2nd cousins.

@@tots4 from the outside it may seem like batshit but in reality for us Bruneians I think we're pretty lucky as we're well taken care for from our medical, education and etc as most of them are given to us for free also our fuel prices are cheap AF as it is probably around $0.35 per liter along with we don't have any kinds of tax including income tax and etc

Forget a valuation, this is the only collection that would create a flux in the global exotic car market if it was ever sold off. Just think about Enzo values when another 65 enter the market at once.
As a Bruneian myself, I can assure that all the cars are taken care of besides only a few and I've seen other magnificent cars that is not known to the public

It's not illegal to own cars, just a lot of import cost due to the local dealers not bringing in high spec cars and not a lot of manufacturers make right hand drive cars. The princes also drives around Pagani Huayras and Laferrari's to work or events lol
@@youneszreika specific cars like rr. Many supercars are also very hard to import (there are no lambo,ferrari... dealers). If you have connections and run a big business then itll be easier. It is even harder if you're not a local (i.e. a native). Holding Bruneian passport but having 'Chinese' blood won't do you any good either.
Mark my words, a close friend outfitted this guys 747 private jet with interiors, furnishings, plates, solid gold flatware…you name it. This was in the late 90’s. They deliver the jet after it’s finished on a private island of his, and he isn’t there isn’t on the runway. An hour late, the Sultan rolls up on a Harley wearing cut off jean shorts and a dirty t-shirt that says “I’m the boss” on it. He loved the finish out on the 747, said thank you, then blasted off up the trail on his Harley leaving all who worked years on his plane standing there in awe.

@@shermanator87 yea the sad part is tho many of the cars have been converted back to left hand drive as there starting to make there way to ferrari collectors that dont care about there history funny enough im pretty shure theres a white f40 that belonged to the sultan that was in Australia for a bit before bring sold to tokyo i beleve but not shure because i really dont remember it accurately enough to say forshure it is on vinwiki tho. And it still has its 512tr intirior and is lhd verry cool there is prety detailed photos of it since its now out of the collection

There was an appraiser that was called to Brunei a couple years ago, that called a portion of this collection “the reef” because they were stored outside and so badly destroyed be the elements that the only life they have left is to be pushed into the ocean and made into an artificial reef
There's also a rumour of an actual reef made up discards from a fleetwide wheel&tyre upgrade, I think for the Rolls and Bentley, but maybe it was the jags. Several hundred sets of the originals were just dumped in a big pile offshore.

A friend of mine worked maintaining the collection for the Sultan. Was like painting the forth bridge apparently by the time they serviced the last one in the garage they went straight back to the first one again.. Bought his whole family open around the world plane tickets when he left as a parting gift.

I worked in Brunei in the mid 90’s and lived there as a child in the 70’s. I remember like it was yesterday sitting on his knee in a Ferrari 308/328 playing with the steering wheel whilst he talked to my dad. The sights I saw in the 90’s were incredible! McLaren F1’s, Ferrari F50’s, Ferrari testarossa FX to name but a few. Brilliant country, brilliant people. And the amount of cars left to rot outside was unreal!
I hope someday we all get to see all the cars documented, one of the greatest automotive mysteries would be solved

@@johnsonsl944 no it would not as he physically doesn't have quantities high enough to sell that many as he bought the cars but not all of them are his in fact most are owned by other members of the royal family so to sell all the cars all the members of the faimly who own them would have to agree to sell them at the same time and with a faimly so large its not going to happen lol
The cars have not been maintained and no climate controls turned on. Basically, sitting in the heat for decades.

I've loved the Sultan's collection since discovering it through car magazine articles. This just scratches the surface of his absolutely crazy and emence collection. Several mechanics and technicians from Ferrari, Bentley, Mercedes ect, have gone to Bruni and commented on the craziness of it. Thank you.

One of close friends brother is part of the personal doctors team of the Sultan and he says that the cars are kept in mint conditions a couple of huge facilities and apparently sultan and few others drive some of the vast cars quite regularly on private roads

Based on a trusted source from Malaysia who has personally visited several of the Sultan's garage mansions (unverified) has estimated the collection to be worth more than 800 millions. I still can't get my head around this!

Guy my dad knows used to be employed by the sultan to look after his cars at his home in Scotland. He’s an ex Bentley mechanic, one of the best mechanics I’ve ever met.

He had a MEGA mansion here in Las Vegas, on Tomiyasu (where Wayne Newton and Mike Tyson lived). 65,000 square feet. Bought for 60 mill and aold it for 38 mil. Absolutely insane money
Think I'd take one of the F-1's and a couple AC's. Absolutely sick collection. And I agree with Ed. Unfortunately, they most likely are sitting in a field or maybe garaged with zero climate control. And have never been started in years. All those cars were built to be driven. I love my 986 even more. :O

I worked for a family a few yrs back that has a fine car collection...Bentley's, Morgan's, Porsche's to name a few.
One of which was a Ferrari F355 that my employer boasted that he purchased/traded with the Sultan and from the said deal gained the dream Ferrari for the collection... Was never to sure if it was true but hey...
Stunning example though, black on black on black.. Was definitely a special one thats for sure.
Personally I was more into the white 1985 Porsche 911 turbo parked next to the F355 at the time.

@@N00bira pretty often. A lot of them were auctioned off in Brunei. Some others end up leaving in private sales. But every now and then one pops up, like most recently that silver 456 estate is in Denver iirc.
There was word going around he purchased 80 new Mercs (one each) for his concubines back in early 2000’s. One who had left the herim lived nearby and earned $100k a year for the rest of her life. Very interesting guy. He is also exceptionally generous on trips with massive tips given.

They’re not in a jungle as you can see, but some are kept outside. Some have never been driven but he has mechanics on the payroll to look after all the cars. The bespoke 456’s are all known as the Venice, and he had plenty of other one off Ferraris including the Bolide which is based on the F50. A lot of the old Rolls Royces had twin turbo conversions and I read that he didn’t purchase anymore Rollers after the BMW takeover in 1998 but that’s not a great loss as he had 300 of the things at that point! Bespoke Astons built by Pininfarina were made (these are called the AM2/3/4), and loads of other things including bikes and ex f1 cars.
He also has Mercedes make reproduction Mercedes Pullmans with all the trimmings
I was at the Bentley factory many years ago. In the special vehicle workshop there was a Continental R under a cover. It started up and was loud. It was also low on black wheels with low profile rubber. The guy got out of a race seat and clambered over a full cage. I asked what the hell was that .., he looked around and said the Sultans brother wants to go racing..😂

You have missed an original GT3, an entire collection of original F1 cars that were literally as the driver got out after the last race. I was lucky enough to have a few minutes to look at some and they were entirely unrestored. Ages ran from mid 80's to the end of the 90's. There was a warehouse full....... At one stage the Antonov heavy lift plane was taking 7 or 8 Rolls Royces a month out there.

I worked on the interior design of the Sultan’s Gulfstream jet back in the 1980’s. My role was minor. I was modifying the electrical diagrams and harnesses based on the customization requirements. I recall that he had a bulkhead door that was split in the middle and had hand carved jade handles that slid open and down. He also had sconces on the walls that had verses from the Koran. Gulfstream in Long Beach did beautiful interiors.
i was talking about this collection with someone i went to school with a few years ago , he works in oil and gas thats why he was there . supposeedly he was shown some of the less valuable cars in storage and said they were in bad shape as the storage buildings were not built to deal with the humidity .

Unless he has a team of about 100 master technicians there is absolutely no possible way that the vast majority of those cars are being cared for at all which is heart breaking.

been facinated by this collection for years. You guys missed one major point, that most of the cars are according to many sources online at least, owned by the Sultan's Brother, Prince Jeffri - the Brunei Playboy. I'll leave you search online about his 90s antics. Few other bits - One of the silver Ferrari 456 wagons (we call them estates in the uk) lives in London and is regularly spotted. The Grey Ferrari F40 with the red pin stripe was imported into the UK and sold by DK Engineering. It was repainted back in its original Rossa Corsa, and then in 2019, it was restored back to the Brunei spec satin grey and red pin stripe finish. It has electric windows and a raised headliner for taller drivers. A car buyer travelled over there years ago and commented on the 'sea of Mercedes' where many of the more vanilla cars of the collection were left outside In the extremely humid conditions, and commented on the leather of steering wheels melting off into the footwells, the article is still available on Jalopnik. The cars were housed in 5 multi story style car parks, and the exotic counter parts (i.e the F1's, 962's, F40's, XJ220s, Several ex 80/90's F1 cars etc) were housed in a glass showroom style building which was air conditioned to preserve them. in the 90s when the money was still flowing, there was a full time team of servicemen looking after the collection before the money dried and lots of cars were sold off or simply left. According to the car buyer who went there, many of the collection are difficult to purchase because accessing the collecting is near impossible, but many cars don't come with official log books (or ownership titles in the US) rendering them unsellable insome cases. There was also a rumour that during the 90s, a Rolls Royce Silver Seraph was left running full time, 24/7 within the set up, to allow the Sultan or the royal family a quick escape in the event of any emergencies. I could go on all day so il stop here but... the collection absolutely boggles the mind.
Try to do the Sultan of Johor (A state of Malaysia) - He also is supposed to have a massive collection. I’ve seen all sorts of exotica drive past where I used to live. I’m not sure it’s a big as this, but it is supposed to be huge.

Thought he had some crazy concept cars like the Ferrari Mythos, Lamborghini Cala, and the Bentley hunaudières, etc. Also some crazy mods of Jag XJ220s. For me: wish I could have one of the McLaren F1LMs in that factory Papaya Orange. 😅
He never had Cala or Hunaudieres (Cala is owned by Factory I believe)
He owns all the Ferrari Mythos. Iirc, these are all the Sultan’s cars and are kept at the Brunei palace.

I once went to Dynasty 2, a restaurant in Chelsea Wharf, London. The sultan was also there that evening. He arrived in a purple Bentley.
My favorite absolutely has to be the Ferrari F50 Bolide. Even though not much is known about it, the design is just so incredibly unique that it’s hard not for it to peak your interest

This collection reminds me of when you would get to the point in one of those mobile games or early Facebook games like Mafia Wars when you were taking in so much currency every day that you ended up just buying armored Benzes in bulk to spend the money fast enough.
I remember reading an article about his cars and there were huge fields filled with cars rotting in the tropical heat, rolls Royce’s with moss growing on the leather seats. It said that there are cars that were delivered and parked and never drive again or were once and never driven again. I’m sure most of the cars are worthless because they have been rotting in the tropical heat for decades.
Three of the five publicly owned F1 LM's. So the two which he doesn't own can likely set records if they ever hit auction. The six (prototype) which is in McLaren's headquarters will never be sold as long as McLaren is in business. Anyone know who owns the other two? I know one sat at the McLaren Philly dealership years ago and there's video here of someone driving away from a car meet.

He has at least one and probably more than one of the Jag XJ220s too! I remember reading a British Car Magazine as a kid in 1992 stating he and Elton John had one of the first XJ220s.

I have a good contact who has a bunch of factory parts removed from the Sultans (Ed’s estimate) 15.4 m $ worth modified Ferrari 456’s, he has a stack of as unused brake discs & calliper’s, and exhaust parts and some other bits and pieces. The guy that removed them was part of a team converting cars for TSoB back in the day. Just seeing all the brakes layed out makes you realise the kind of money he was throwing at these cars 😮

I can say 10000% for sure that in the early 2000's most of the cars were in very poor condition. At the time most were stored by colour in massive hangers that did NOT have humidity control systems. Bruni is a tropical climate and humidity is a issue. As such the interiors of almost all of them were mouldy and had much more rust than you would expect.
I have seen images from then and can tell you it is an over the top collection and he also had a Batmobile that shot a flame thrower like in the movies along with others but being a kid at the time that's the one I remember the most.
Not to say he has not fixed his collection now and storing them better but I can say this for the early 2000's for sure no doubt. So I can only guess what they would be like by now but I feel not very good still so have to say I think the value would be a lot less than the very fair and reasonable guesstimate by you guys. The thumbnail is from a ferrari tour years ago and its not owned by someone in brunei, would be glad if you changed it to cars that he actually own....Seen people use that photo way to many times talking about the collection of brunei.
