You just picked up another 'scriber. I built my own camper from a quality cargo trailer. Of the MANY benefits, was the roof being galvanized steel completely removing any concern of leakage. Purchased in 2003 and have put thousands of Texas miles on it since. We use it all the time.
im sorry but i love you, you are the cutest thing ever. i love the energy. i am a 29 year old man and I wish i had this drive and energy. hopefully watching your videos push me to do it
You inspire me with your willingness to jump in with both feet, nicely done. I’ve spent the last two years chipping away at a 2003 30’. ( ms lazy ) sadly lazy daze closed their doors for good in July 2022. Thanks for the video.
I know! I was so sad to hear that they closed! But I'm glad you were able to get one before they did and that you are still working on yours. I hope you're able to get it out on the road so you can see the country. Thanks for watching and for your kind words!
Beautiful job. The only thing I would suggest is that before you put down any eternabond tape the roof should be cleaned very well and then some use rubbing alcohol to clean up just before laying the tape. That way it will stick for years.
Great job! Did you keep the existing escape hatch at the overhead bunk? My biggest fear is needing to replace that on our 2000 LD. Looking forward to your next project! :)
Thank you! Yes, I kept the existing hatch because it was the only thing that was still in great shape with no leaks! I looked into a replacement but it’s hard to find that size so I can relate to you fearing to replace it someday. Hopefully ours will last :)
LazyDaze does not recommend using any silicone or rubber products on an aluminum roof. These products trap water under under the coating and cause rust and damage to aluminum roofs. Most likely this coating will have to be removed within the next 3-5 years.
IMMPPRREESSIVE !!! It's refreshing to see a hard working person making it happen. Such gems aren't dangling from a tree, and applying oneself is a character trait ( a welcomed one at that ). I was wondering if you went with the original BTU AC, upgraded, or added an AC with a " Soft-Start functionality " ? Also, did the AC area appear to be solid ( not mushy or rotted ), or any of the other openings appear suspect ? Just curious how impactful the many years of weathering had on this 26 yrs. old rig ? Finally, approximate cost for replacing the AC, Vents, Skylights, etc. ??? How many total coats did you apply, did you say the warrantee was for 50 yrs, that should about do it until your Space Ship is ready ??? You can be discrete on the $$$, just getting a cumulative ballpark, but you saved tons on the labor ( my back is hurting just watching, I have to lay down afterwards ...... will need therapy ). You Go Gurl, learning the lessons first-hand, and applying them forever. Always, Syn Silver.
Thank you very much! Hopefully showing others, especially women that you can do a lot of this stuff yourself and save money. To answer your questions - I am not sure what the original BTU size was for the AC. I got the Furrion Chill 14.5K and I'm pretty sure it is larger than the original. No soft start option on that one. None of the areas seem mushy, but the wood was discolored. I listed all of the products in the description so you will be able to see the prices of all of those items. I was really interested in going with RV Armor as they come out to you and do all that work for you, but it would have cost me almost $4000. The Crazy Seal was about $1000 with my size roof, so it was a lot of work but worth saving $3000 to me. I applied two coats. Thanks for watching and having so much interest. I appreciate it!
Thank you! From what I’ve read, Lazy Daze doesn’t fasten or adhere the aluminum skin to the roof except at the edges, so it basically “floats” on top of the substrate. So, yes, the skin was separated but I believe that is by design.
@@edriley1516 It seems to be doing well. Even though I think I did a good job of installing and the product is good, I still always feel a little paranoid about leaks and keep checking. But I’ve had it uncovered for several weeks during typical Washington rainy and cold season and haven’t seen any leaks! I will still try to keep it covered as much as possible, but I feel good knowing it is holding up.
Great job on that Linda, I am in the process of buying some of that crazy seal, and I need to know if you bought a kit or how many gallons you used and if you used caulking it all around anything on the windows.
Thank you! I didn’t buy the kit because I didn’t need the caulking. I calculated how much I needed and bought the products individually. So I ended up buying 2 cans of crazy clean, 1 can of crazy patch, and 3 gallons of crazy seal. Hope that helps!
Linda, hi it’s Tim Ira, if you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for your Krazy Seal stuff,? Because I was quoted over $900 for the same things you got.
@@TimIra-z9q Yes, it’s definitely an investment. That’s about what I paid as well. But it was less than having someone else do it and I am comforted by their 50 year warranty.
It did come with a new gasket. Unfortunately, I don't know where to find replacement gaskets. I would think since it is a pretty standard US size that you could find something easily. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
I own a 2005 26 1/2’ Island Queen LD…same color scheme. Just wondering if you knew what the original clear/yellowing sealant was…brand or whatever. Need to redo mine but my paint is still good so I really don’t need to go as far as you. Appreciate the video btw.
@@LindaYoshi no, I’m talking about the amber lap sealant Lazy Daze originally used on the seams. Yours had some white repair sealant on top of the original amber sealant.
@@Metalhart1 I’m sorry, I don’t know the name of the original product they used. I ended up scraping a lot of that off and resealed all the seams with Eternabond tape.
Congrats on your LD! So far so good on the roof. I haven't had any leaks. I do usually keep it covered now when I can, but I've also had it uncovered during many rainy days, and it has held up perfectly. It has been 2 years since I put it on, but I don't see any signs of damage or wear yet.
I removed all of the old lap sealant and put a tan colored Eternabond tape around all the edges. Since the body of the RV is a beige color, I thought it would look better to have a tan edge tape instead of the standard white. It doesn't match exactly, but I think it looks better than having a white border around the roof that you can see from the ground.
At 5min 17sec you tape off your escape hatch. It looks brand new. Can you provide a part number and source for that item? Have you replaced any of the curverd corner cap. A lot of mine is cracked and I'm struggling to find it. Do you have a source?

After 65 years in business Lazy Daze (the Airstream of class C's) just closed up operations June 2022.
The value of your rig just sky rocketed!
I know!! I just heard that. I'm so sad! But like you said, maybe it will make the value of Mr. Green better :)
Not sure how I ended up on you channel but I’m glad I did. Your doing a great job with your renovations. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
