Molly, you were the first person I pulled up on YT when I felt I needed to start getting creative. Since then I have made some ridiculous items, but I’ve also made some pretty special ones too for cancer patients or for fund raisers for them. As a retired soldier, crafting or painting was never within my time constraints or abilities. I just want you to know that your painting not only inspires others but it helps those with PTSD, anxiety, etc. Thank you. 🙏🏻
You are just awesome Molly!! So willing to share all your knowledge so us newbies can learn. I love the way you present your videos, they are clear, precise and easy to follow. I appreciate you so much! ♥️♥️🇦🇺
That’s so cool! I have used Liquitex varnish gloss since I started painting 6 years ago. I recently started resin mine. I use a 1.1 ratio quick dry resin.
Molly, you've done it again!!! Thank you for revolutionizing my life. This is so much easier than resin. I usually use resin on the paint pours and the liquitex varnish on my landscapes. Wow, now I will use the liquitex varnish on both. This may sound silly, but it sure helps me out because I have ruined a few paint pours with the resin. Whew...
Thank you so much, Molly. I used to do paintings of animals and sceneries in Acrylic colors. I used Liquitex or Modpodge. I love the pantyhose over the sponge. I used to use sponge brushes, which took a lot of time. I love this hint. I will use it. Huggles always. 👩🎨🎨💖🍀🌷🦓🇺🇸 Liz in California.
Thank you for sharing. I bought the polycrylic for my topcoat now I need to rethink my finish. Glad you told me about the cracks I don't want that since I am just starting out.
I'm so glad I found this on your channel. Thank you so much for this. I had no idea where to start with varnish. Now I'm getting down to it. I'm new to fluid art and have actually produced some lovely pieces
Thanks Molly. I’m a big fan of yours. My friend sent me this video. I am doing a larger than usual canvas 30x 40 inch. I have done two coats so far. The cross hatching is evident and so are ridges probably from a foam brush. The largest I could find at Lowe’s. I’m glad you said you can pour directly onto the canvas. I’m hoping to get those ridges out. Do you think the sponge 🧽 will work, or do you think I should spread it with gloved hands like I did with epoxy? I heard Liquitex gloss is self leveling. So I’m thinking that maybe the gloved hands may cover the ridges? They get larger with each coat so far 😳
I'm in the process rn of getting set up 2 do this in my basement this winter........long story- I need something besides daily YMCA to do and we live in our bedroom and I'm going stir crazy and am seriously getting depressed and unhappy..........so its something for ME..........fingers crossed it works out like I'm hoping............I totally LOVE Molly's work AND that she always explains everything .............
Thank you Molly, this is video I was looking for, I haven’t poured my first canvas yet, but getting closer everyday, with the info all you artists are willing to share.❤️❤️❤️
Molly, it is interesting that you use the varnish after your painting is dry. I use the acrylic high gloss varnish as my medium, when mixing my acrylic paints, and they all come out perfectly, looking like they have been varnished. Maybe you could try it one time and see what you think. I used to use Flotrol with my acrylic paints, but ended up with matte finish, and I wanted more of a glossy finish, so I just experimented and am now not wasting so much money! 😁 Good luck! Love you and your videos! Mari
Thank you! I use gloss medium and varnish in most of my pouring mediums. But it still doesnt offer the full UV protection that adding the full varnish as the finishing layer does. So I do both!
I want to do a pour for outside. I will use green board(it is concrete). What would I prep the board with, and what would I use to seal it. I have a 2 broken mosaic tile pieces in my back yard and they have been there for years. Thanks for being such a good teacher and sharing all your knowledge. Becky
Thank you for this. I have been trying your technique but I am still getting streaks. What do I need to change? Also, Have you ever done a video on how you package your art to ship or where you get your floating frames?
How do you finish the backs of your paintings, do you clean them up, paint them or cover them with paper and do you install a hanging wire or leave them as they are? thank you for your videos, I love every one of them. Very helpful and so inspirational
Love your work and thank you for sharing your beautiful paintings. Questions... 1. Do you rinse the sponge once done varnishing or is the wetness from the varnish? 2. How do you keep the backs of your artwork clean? Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Hi! I do not It rents out the sponge I keep it in a plastic bag and reuse it multiple times I do not do much to the backs of my paintings if it's a commission piece then I will tape off the backs but if not I leave them be
Thank you so much Molly. This is s question I've had for a while. This really helped. You are such a sweet person and I appreciate everything you do. Your a great teacher and you are fun to watch. 😊💜
Hi Molly… For my varnish I use RUST-OLEUM ULTRA COVER GLOSE CLEAR SPRAY FROM HOME DEPOT which is very good and dries in half an hour and costs around $6. As for the silicone I also use Mont Marte Silicone which is very good and I have never had to clean any of my paintings before varnishing them. Try both together… Regards
What do think of spray varnish? Will more coats of varnish make the painting more shiny? I need something that is not difficult to use as I’m in a wheelchair. Thank you for your advice and for your videos. I enjoy them and learn a lot.
Molly, Love your work and how you explain what your doing! I'm new at pour painting and have a couple questions. How long should a painting cure before varnishing and do you use the same sponge for the Liquitex gloss and the Liquitex high gloss varnish?
Hi Angel, I have the same question about how long till the painting is cured. I was wondering is you found an answer. If you have and you feel like sharing I would surely appreciate it! 😊
Hi Molly ... your work is amazing... As this video is for some years ago I want to know, "Are you still using this method for varnishing? Using sponge and stocking? Have you tried diluted high gloss varnish with water?" If yes. Which method do you prefer , diluted or not diluted? Thank you so much ❤
I have been doing paint pouring for about 4 months but had not found a good varnish method until I saw your video for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I varnished a bunch yesterday. Question- how do I avoid the foam like bubbles you can get from the sponge? Or avoid bubbles at all? Thanks.
I'm sorry to hear it... Make sure the paints are level and thin on the canvas. If they are too thick they will crack. If they are mixed with too much water they will crack. If they have air flow over them they may crack. It has to do with the evaporation of water and a thing called crazing. You want good drying conditions for the work to dry and cure properly.
I found you a few months ago and I am in love with what you do. So much inspiration. I'm still new so thanks for showing me how you vanish your paintings. I know you don't use silicone but I have and would love to know how you clean it off? I'm in Australia so finding some things you use is a little harder but super happy with the few paintings I have done, I just need to clean and vanish them. 😍
Molly, I had a question...how do you clean dust off of a painted canvas? I had poured a painting a month ago and it dried fully in my "studio" (garage). But the contractor working on my house started cutting tile in there and it's a dust ball now. I don't want to smear or liquefy the paint. I need to varnish it and know it needs to be cleaned first...I wasn't sure if lysol wipes would make mud with the dust
Thank you Molly for this information. As per your instruction femme another video explaining pouring mediums, I have had good results with using a combination of 1:1 Floetrol and Liquitex Gloss Varnish. The dried canvas has good results and is glossy. My question is that do I still need to varnish over top using the same Liquitex Gloss Varnish even though it is in the pouring medium. Also, how much time should be given to cure before putting varnish. Thanks so much Molly.
Hi Molly! I have recently started paint pouring and I definitely appreciate your videos! I also live in FL and have seen different dry times for acrylic pour paintings, but what is a general time frame or ways to tell if the painting is completely dried?
So glad I've found this video, I've tried vanishing in different methods and didn't like it, so I started using spray because it doesn't leave marks, but now I'm trying your method with the sponge, I hope to get better results with it! Thank you for this video! Btw do you water your varnish a little? Or you use it without anything in it?
Hi Molly, this is the first time I have watched one of your videos. I liked the idea of using a sponge with tights. I use a dense foam roller and rap it in cling film between application. However, I was surprised to see you apply varnish to a painting that had not fully dried. Could it mislead new artits still trying to fĵind their way around a canvas I'm now going to be told that acrylic drying time has been the main subject of a previous video😊😊
Have you used aerosol cans of varnish? Thoughts? I used it on a few paintings. I haven't used varnish liquids yet on other paintings to compare results...

Hi Molly. Didn’t see this question asked in comments. When you use the sponge for the first time should you wet it first or just use it dry and let the varnish soak up?
Hi Molly...you mentioned a couple of products at the beginning. One was a smell issue. Another cracking. Regardless of product when there's a problem vanishing I'm guessing the piece is ruined?
Hi know the smell I was talking about was from golden varnish and that was also the one that cracked but the piece I ended up furnishing over about 5 layers with liquitex gloss varnish and the pieces textured but it was not ruined it actually turned out nice I only use liquitex gloss or high gloss varnish now poly acrylic also has cracked on me in the past the liquid text gloss varnish is my favorite by far
Bonjour Molly, very helpful video. Have a question. When you use the sponge for the very first time, do you water the sponge so it will be humid to proceed with the varnishing? Merci. Love your art.
Hi! I started by not wetting at all, but I have found i get more air bubbles that way so yes I spritz with water and wing it really well. Damp at most to start.
@@MOLLYSARTISTRY - I'm not sure that I understand the steps. Do you spritz the sponge with water first? Then wring it out? Then apply the varnish? Is that the sequence of steps you use? Do you spritz with water each time or just the first time you use a new sponge - before it's saturated with varnish from previous uses? Thank you, Molly! You ROCK! Really appreciate you, your heart for teaching, and your beautiful art!
Hello Molly, I do hope you see this message. I’ve been watching how u varnish as I’m going to start using varnish rather than resin because I always manage to miss a tiny spot !!!! Thank you for this. I have been trying your technique but I am still getting streaks. What do I need to change? Also, Have you ever done a video on how you package your art to ship or where you get your floating frames?
that was helpful to know re: minwax as I also live in FL.
Thank you for this video. I’m trying to learn to use the varnish before I try it on a piece.
Glad it was helpful!
Great to know how do you finish your back of your beautiful work.
I take off the tape, sign and place hanging hardware!

Molly- thanks for the tips. Do you wet the sponge before the first application?

Hi Molly. I absolutely love your art and your videos! Do you have a video on how you finish the back of your canvas to sell?
Yes it is in my basics Playlist from a long time ago
Molly, do you have a video how you finish with resin? Like your coasters...
Thanks for this, how often do you change out the nylon.
Hi Molly ... your work is amazing... As this video is for some years ago I want to know,

Rub on with a tshirt or add the pantyhose over the sponge

Hi Molly,
Thank you for the varnish tips but can you tell me if you have a video on resin products that you?
Yes I do its video 75
I found you a few months ago and I am in love with what you do. So much inspiration. I'm still new so thanks for showing me how you vanish your paintings. I know you don't use silicone but I have and would love to know how you clean it off?
I'm in Australia so finding some things you use is a little harder but super happy with the few paintings I have done, I just need to clean and vanish them. 😍
Hi Molly. Love your tutorials! I would need to buy a sponge. Before using should it be soaked with water and squeezed until it is just damp?
You can do either, damp or dry
Molly, I had a question...how do you clean dust off of a painted canvas? I had poured a painting a month ago and it dried fully in my "studio" (garage). Yes you can wipe with cloth towel or lysol wipe should be fine!
thanks for sharing.
My pleasure
Thank you Molly for this information. Hi! Dry to the touch in 1 to 3 days, cord in 2 to 4 weeks
Thank you
So glad I've found this video, I've tried vanishing in different methods and didn't like it, so I started using spray because it doesn't leave marks, but now I'm trying your method with the sponge, I hope to get better results with it! I'm now going to be told that acrylic drying time has been the main subject of a previous video😊😊
The sponge is that a microfiber sponge or bone sponge? They have both on amazon and not certain which one you have?
I like the microfiber better, but I have used both
Have you used aerosol cans of varnish? Thoughts? I used it on a few paintings. I haven't used varnish liquids yet on other paintings to compare results...
Would you recommend spray varnish? Seems much easier. But is it good quality?
Hey...
Thank you for your great Videos.
I startet with pouring not long ago. Absolutely beginner.
I made a small canvas (12x12cm). I waited 2 weeks before i did the varnish with liquitex today. The hole surface is damaged, cracked. Do you have an advice for me for the next time?
I'm sorry to hear it...
Make sure the paints are level and thin on the canvas. If they are too thick they will crack. If they are mixed with too much water they will crack. If they have air flow over them they may crack. It has to do with the evaporation of water and a thing called crazing. You want good drying conditions for the work to dry and cure properly.
Thank you so much
Just started pouring.
With my other paintings (scenery) I seal them with clear glue or mod podge. Will that work with pour painting?
I would seal with an actual varnish as this provides UV protection against fading
Isolation coat? I'm trying to choose between Golden, and Liquitex varnishes. Only one, rather than multiple!
Hi Molly. Didn’t see this question asked in comments. When you use the sponge for the first time should you wet it first or just use it dry and let the varnish soak up?
I have mine dry, but you can wet and wring it out
Hi Molly...you mentioned a couple of products at the beginning.
Do you ever use spray gloss on the paintings by for example Rust-Oleum?
Have you ever tried the spray varnish. I'm curious how it works, or not? Love your videos ❤️
Yes it does!
Just starting out love your videos. How often do you change the pantyhose?😍
Will the sponge soak a lot of gloss on a brand new sponge and panty hose?
Is your sponge kept damp with plain water I love watching you teach you explain everything so clearly Thank you
Hello Molly, I do hope you see this message. I’ve been watching how u varnish as I’m going to start using varnish rather than resin because I always manage to miss a tiny spot !!!! When you say ur sponge is saturated is that with water or varnish ? Thanks from Jane in Bonnie but very cold Scotland…..
Hi! You can saturate with either, i just keep it a little damp!
Hi Molly, do you know if house/ furniture varnish gloss/matte can work? Thanks very much
Thank you, so helpful. Do you varnish all your paintings?
Yes, I do
