- How I varnish my paintings, acrylic pouring basics. I use a car sponge, and panty hose (got that from watching you tube, gina deluca ty!). I use liquitex gloss and high gloss varnish. I sometimes use a spray acrylic gloss varnish as well, but I have been loving the look of liquitex lately!

I love coming back to your "older" videos and just appreciating how far you've come on this journey.
Molly, you were the first person I pulled up on YT when I felt I needed to start getting creative. Since then I have made some ridiculous items, but I’ve also made some pretty special ones too for cancer patients or for fund raisers for them. As a retired soldier, crafting or painting was never within my time constraints or abilities. I just want you to know that your painting not only inspires others but it helps those with PTSD, anxiety, etc. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Love this video Molly. You are such a kind person to share all your experiences with us. You are a natural teacher.
Thank you for all the info, you have no idea how much it helps us beginners❤️❤️
I am so glad!!!
Agreed! Super helpful!
You are just awesome Molly!! So willing to share all your knowledge so us newbies can learn. I love the way you present your videos, they are clear, precise and easy to follow. I appreciate you so much! ♥️♥️🇦🇺
Thank You for all that you share Molly!! You pave the way for many of us.
Thank you for this. I’m so happy it came up as a suggestion. This method looks so easy and I can’t wait to use it. 👍🏻🌹
I love learning from you! Everyday I enjoy happy painting!!! Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. I bought the polycrylic for my topcoat now I need to rethink my finish. Glad you told me about the cracks I don't want that since I am just starting out.
I ADORE the black & neon colour swipe!
Thanks for explaining this process so well. Both you n your paintings are amazing.
Thank you Molly for sharing this info! I love your work and your thorough explanation!
I haven’t done a pour yet, but am planning to do one soon. Your videos are the BEST I have seen! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, Molly. I used to do paintings of animals and sceneries in Acrylic colors. I used Liquitex or Modpodge. I love the pantyhose over the sponge. I used to use sponge brushes, which took a lot of time. I love this hint.
I will use it.
Huggles always. 👩🎨🎨💖🍀🌷🦓🇺🇸

Thank you!!! I love watching your videos they are so helpful
Thank you for sharing! I needed a good technique for varnishing.
Molly, you are amazing. Thank you so much for your valuable Wave Tutorials.
Thank you so much. Your videos are extremely helpful and informative. I love them!
Thank you so much telling us about your sponge thingy.. What a great idea. I use my hands and this sound so much better!!! thanks again!!!
I loved this. So helpful. Thank you Molly!!!
So very helpfull, Thanks Molly
I'm so glad I found this on your channel. Thank you so much for this. I had no idea where to start with varnish. Now I'm getting down to it. I'm new to fluid art and have actually produced some lovely pieces
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Molly, this is video I was looking for, I haven’t poured my first canvas yet, but getting closer everyday, with the info all you artists are willing to share.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for all you share!
Molly, you've done it again!!! Thank you for revolutionizing my life. This is so much easier than resin. I usually use resin on the paint pours and the liquitex varnish on my landscapes. Wow, now I will use the liquitex varnish on both. This may sound silly, but it sure helps me out because I have ruined a few paint pours with the resin. Whew...
Awesome, thanks for showing this
You are a great teacher Molly! Thank you for the tips!!
That is so sweet! Thank you so much!
Thanks Molly. I’m a big fan of yours. My friend sent me this video. I am doing a larger than usual canvas 30x 40 inch. I have done two coats so far. The cross hatching is evident and so are ridges probably from a foam brush. The largest I could find at Lowe’s. I’m glad you said you can pour directly onto the canvas. I’m hoping to get those ridges out. Do you think the sponge 🧽 will work, or do you think I should spread it with gloved hands like I did with epoxy? I heard Liquitex gloss is self leveling. So I’m thinking that maybe the gloved hands may cover the ridges? They get larger with each coat so far 😳
This is the best I've seen. Thank you for sharing! I love your paintings and now I can varnish them.
You are so welcome
Hi Molly I would be more than happy to keep watching you x Australia x
Thank you!
Molly I love your videos! So helpful for beginners and your work is great!

Thank you! Yay, this is awesome shannon! Yes, this can def take your mind off of things and can be so freeing! So excited for you!
Thx for sharing, I would love to see how you painted the black canvas bc I love the way it turned out.
Thank you for sharing. I used a sponge stick on my first pour and did get lines.
Molly- thanks for the tips. Do you wet the sponge before the first application?
that was helpful to know re: minwax as I also live in FL.
Thank you for all the info!!
Thank you for showing us how to add the varnish. 😊
Yes thank you so much!
Thank you so much!,info is wonderful!,
Thank you for sharing!!
Molly, it is interesting that you use the varnish after your painting is dry. I use the acrylic high gloss varnish as my medium, when mixing my acrylic paints, and they all come out perfectly, looking like they have been varnished.
Maybe you could try it one time and see what you think. I used to use Flotrol with my acrylic paints, but ended up with matte finish, and I wanted more of a glossy finish, so I just experimented and am now not wasting so much money! 😁 Good luck! Love you and your videos! Mari
Thank you! I use gloss medium and varnish in most of my pouring mediums. But it still doesnt offer the full UV protection that adding the full varnish as the finishing layer does. So I do both!
I also have used the Clorox wipes and they work perfectly.
Thank you for your expertise
I found you a few months ago and I am in love with what you do. So much inspiration. I'm still new so thanks for showing me how you vanish your paintings. I know you don't use silicone but I have and would love to know how you clean it off?
I'm in Australia so finding some things you use is a little harder but super happy with the few paintings I have done, I just need to clean and vanish them. 😍
❤️ it
Many thanks for that Molly.
Liquitex is definitely my favourite 😃
Thank you for this video. I’m trying to learn to use the varnish before I try it on a piece.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for sharing 😊😊
Thank You 💛
GOOD JOB SISTER!!!
I want to do a pour for outside. I will use green board(it is concrete). What would I prep the board with, and what would I use to seal it.
I have a 2 broken mosaic tile pieces in my back yard and they have been there for years. Thanks for being such a good teacher and sharing all your knowledge. Becky
Thank you so much Molly. This is s question I've had for a while. This really helped. You are such a sweet person and I appreciate everything you do. Your a great teacher and you are fun to watch. 😊💜
Hi Molly ... your work is amazing... As this video is for some years ago I want to know,
"Are you still using this method for varnishing? Using sponge and stocking? Have you tried diluted high gloss varnish with water?" If yes. Which method do you prefer , diluted or not diluted? Thank you so much ❤
I agree with Beth alverson, how true and I thank you too♓👍👏
Love your work and thank you for sharing your beautiful paintings. Questions...
1. Do you rinse the sponge once done varnishing or is the wetness from the varnish?
2. How do you keep the backs of your artwork clean?
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Hi! I do not It rents out the sponge I keep it in a plastic bag and reuse it multiple times I do not do much to the backs of my paintings if it's a commission piece then I will tape off the backs but if not I leave them be
Hi Molly you are so sweet and beautiful and your paintings are so amazing to.😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much!
Cool thx
Thank you
Im glad you showed that Golden polymer cause i use Golden Gloss med in my pour mixture and i do like that but i dont think id like the polymer? And ive been wanting to try Liquitex varnish and gloss so thankyou hun?
How do you finish the backs of your paintings, do you clean them up, paint them or cover them with paper and do you install a hanging wire or leave them as they are? thank you for your videos, I love every one of them. Very helpful and so inspirational
this is a great video! thank you! question: I used some house paint (latex paint) for my first pour and I'm loving the results! I would like to apply a gloss varnish using liquitex. Will is still work, or will it cause cracking etc? any advice you can give, would be appreciated!
Molly, Love your work and how you explain what your doing! I'm new at pour painting and have a couple questions. How long should a painting cure before varnishing and do you use the same sponge for the Liquitex gloss and the Liquitex high gloss varnish?
Hi Angel, I have the same question about how long till the painting is cured. I was wondering is you found an answer. If you have and you feel like sharing I would surely appreciate it! 😊
Thanks
First of all, let me say I love your videos! I'm just a beginner. My granddaughter wanted to start doing this, so I began researching, and you have been so helpful with everything. We are enjoying ourselves so much trying new ideas. But, I have 2 questions. First, why not use a spray on gloss finish? I have a Valspar Gloss Spray here, I use for other craft projects that we were thinking of using. Also, we live in Pennsylvania. Would you expect the Minwax to have the same issues here, where we have 4 seasons as opposed to Florida where it is so warm all the time? Thanks in advance for your advice!
Thank you SO much. I get so nervous trying to finish my pours.
Thanks, Molly for this informative video. Do you wet the sponge before varnishing?
Thank you! I will try this technique on the canvas!!! I am covering an acrylic pour table. Have you ever used Epoxy resin? Any videos ?
Thanks for this, how often do you change out the nylon.
Gamblin Gamvar Varnish Gloss is the best and easiest varnish out there. You use a tiny amount and I mean tiny as in dime size or less brush it on and no streaks or lines just a shiney coating. I have not even had to do a second coat yet. Don't let the price scare you a bottle will last forever!
Thank you for the info! I will have to check that out!
So glad I've found this video, I've tried vanishing in different methods and didn't like it, so I started using spray because it doesn't leave marks, but now I'm trying your method with the sponge, I hope to get better results with it! Thank you for this video! Btw do you water your varnish a little? Or you use it without anything in it?
Hi Molly. I absolutely love your art and your videos! Do you have a video on how you finish the back of your canvas to sell?
Yes it is in my basics Playlist from a long time ago
thank you for sharing your expertise! I messed up my one and only piece I varnished and this looks simpler than what I attempted. Do you prefer the Liquetex high gloss or gloss? Is there a big difference?
Thank you!! I use them both, I do a few layers of gloss and if I want it glossing, then I do a another layer of high gloss. Not too much difference. Just depemds on the look you are going for
thanks for sharing.
My pleasure
I used the polyacrylic and it bubbled between coats and peeled even though the previous coat was dry. Do you recommend sanding lightly before applying the varnish?
Thank you so much! I Will try to do this. Afther 3/4 layers did iT dry without stripes?
Yes, it did!
Merci beaucoup pour vos informations.
Bonjour Molly, very helpful video. Have a question. When you use the sponge for the very first time, do you water the sponge so it will be humid to proceed with the varnishing? Merci. Love your art.
I have trouble with lines showing in my liquitex high gloss varnish. I’ve tried different applicators and the big sponge is best, but not good enough. Spray varnish and polycrylic varnish seems to work best.
Every so often, I have lines that show up, but for the most part, with mulitple coats, that goes away for me. If spray varnish works fir you, I would stick with that! There is BP right or wrong with that
Thank you for this. I have been trying your technique but I am still getting streaks. What do I need to change? Also, Have you ever done a video on how you package your art to ship or where you get your floating frames?
Hi Molly. Love your tutorials! I would need to buy a sponge. Before using should it be soaked with water and squeezed until it is just damp?
You can do either, damp or dry
Hi Molly! I have recently started paint pouring and I definitely appreciate your videos! I also live in FL and have seen different dry times for acrylic pour paintings, but what is a general time frame or ways to tell if the painting is completely dried?
Hi! Dry to the touch in 1 to 3 days, cord in 2 to 4 weeks
What do think of spray varnish? Will more coats of varnish make the painting more shiny? I need something that is not difficult to use as I’m in a wheelchair. Thank you for your advice and for your videos. I enjoy them and learn a lot.
Thank you so much. Do you are the air bubble after your application? Regards osi
Have you used aerosol cans of varnish? Thoughts? I used it on a few paintings. I haven't used varnish liquids yet on other paintings to compare results...
Thank you Molly for this information. As per your instruction femme another video explaining pouring mediums, I have had good results with using a combination of 1:1 Floetrol and Liquitex Gloss Varnish. The dried canvas has good results and is glossy. My question is that do I still need to varnish over top using the same Liquitex Gloss Varnish even though it is in the pouring medium. Also, how much time should be given to cure before putting varnish. Thanks so much Molly.
Thats great auburn!
Love your work and love your chanel!! We meet a few weeks ago on Christina's live Monday night class. I see you using liquitex, have you tried the GAC 800? Is that the one you said smells ugly?
I have been doing paint pouring for about 4 months but had not found a good varnish method until I saw your video for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I varnished a bunch yesterday.
Question- how do I avoid the foam like bubbles you can get from the sponge? Or avoid bubbles at all?
Thanks.
Rub on with a tshirt or add the pantyhose over the sponge
Hey Molly, quick question. I created a black and white painting and it has been dry for weeks so I thought it was plenty of time to go ahead and varnish. When I started to wipe the black started to smear into the white! Oh my goodnessss what did I do wrong? 🙁
Thank you so much ! What about varnish in spray ? It works ok? Have you ever tried it?
Thank you, so helpful. Do you varnish all your paintings?
Yes, I do
Have you ever tried the spray varnish. I'm curious how it works, or not? Love your videos ❤️
Yes it does!
Hi, Molly! Always so excited to see each of your new videos! I have a question please, what do you use to "varnish" or "resin" over the ColourArte Primary Elements? I've tried TriArt LiquiGlass and it dissolved the pigments and they melded all together! :-(. Appreciate all of your advice! Thanks much.
I used liquitex high gloss varnish and while a little cane off on the sponge, it didnt smear at all
Thanks much for your advice. I’m going for that resin/glass high shine look...haven’t tried the Liquitex high gloss varnish in this manner. Perhaps I can achieve this look via numerous coats. Again, many thanks and grateful for all of your inspiration! Hugs!
Hi Molly! You are wonderful! Your videos motivated me to paint again. After you finish your paintings, how long do you wait to varnish it? I heard some people wait two to three weeks.
Ty! 2 to 4 weeks, the paint has to cure by evaporation of water. Otherwise it may cloud your varnish
MOLLY'S ARTISTRY Thank you so much!!! I can’t wait to see what will
you paint next ☺️
Hi Molly, this was a great video and was able to varnish my piece perfectly. However afterwards I covered my painting in bubble wrap and it left some imprints. I was wonder if you had any tips on fixing this? Do you think adding a new coat of varnish would help?
Oh no! Always place paper in between the painting and bubble wrap and wait a few days before wrapping it at all. You can try to re varnish or try to reset and tighten the canvas again
Molly, I love watching your videos. I need to varnish a few pieces that are going to a gallery. Is it possible to varnish if they haven't cured for a full 2 weeks? Mine are 10 days since I painted them.
I wait 3 to 4 weeks for fear of clouding beneath the varnish.
Molly- I live in south Florida also. I love the Liquitex high gloss varnish but everyone seems to be sold out with no predicted re-stock date. Have you found a source for it and if not, what are you using instead? Many thanks..
