The suicide topic was on point. I think the priest could have stated it delicately but honestly. My husband committed suicide 30 years ago and left 3 children. I won't go into the circumstances. I still have mass said and still pray for his soul and have finally forgiven him. However, I don't kid myself to be confident that he made it. I will also continue prayers and hope that he can still make it to heaven. I believe prayers are never wasted.

2:36:00 Biggest piece of advice I have is be available and approachable. What I mean is don't misinterpret the man needing to make the first move as meaning that you can't ever initiate conversation. You even see this on Catholic "dating" sites where women won't send the first message (the equivalent of saying "Hi" in the vestibule after Mass) because it's not "traditional." Also, don't run to your car right after Mass and expect a guy you've had you eye on to ever make a move. Hang out in the vestibule/parking lot/etc. stop in to the coffee hour.

I got through the remaining 2 hours whilst I put my vanity dresser together today. Lol. It was interesting to hear Seamus mention the part about not being so outwardly expressive about his faith at times. I often struggle with that too and I would think "Am I a bad Catholic?" for not being so that way about my faith but it does put me at ease to know that I'm not the only one who deals with those feelings. So thank you.

As far as a conservative Catholic woman letting a man know that she likes him… find out what one of his favorite foods is and bring it to him, desserts are easy to transport so maybe cookies or brownies at first. To be clear, this will work with just about ANY man, not just a conservative Catholic. While it’s not exactly subtle, there’s also absolutely nothing that’s inappropriate or sexually suggestive about it.

On the issue of Libertarianism and Catholicism, I used to be a die-hard Libertarian and I'd still call myself libertarian, but not A Libertarian. My big post-libertarian moment was realising that while the market provides, and supply meets demand in a free market, this says nothing about what the demand is for. Free markets aren't a moral good, they're morally neutral. In terms of efficiency, unregulated markets are inassailable. But they provide negative products as well as positive ones: pornography and medicine, drugs and food.
A free market is the most efficient way to run an economy, but a healthy society needs someone to use force to protect it from subversion and corruption.

I’ve got to pints with aquinas via a small clip from the last time Michael knowles was on. I then wanted to watch the entire episode and I was sold. Now i listen them mostly on spotify while at work (in their entirety) and sometimes I’ll watch via UA-cam, then I watch the entire thing, although mostly not in one go.

"they will repeat 'love your nieghbor' but they won't repeat 'love the lord your God with all your heart soul and mind'"
this has become super obvious to me. I keep seeing people say things like "you cannot hold to the traditional interpretation, because it violates the great commandment, whicxh is to love your neighbor"
and I keep just thinking, you forgot an important part of that.

"Could I ask an AI to produce a conversation between Matt and Seamus?"
Of course, but you would only get a rehash of what they'd talked about before. Imagine if every Jordan Peterson video you ever watched was 100% a rehash of his psychology lectures. (Instead of 20-40%.)

I've been watching him, crowder, and rekeita on there for a couple months now and have yet to make it through one entire video without it pausing to load every 2 seconds or just stopping and restarting or just stop working all together.

As Christians, we are called to rejoice but also, we know we are on a battlefield day in and day out while we are here. Therefore, our love for Christ expresses itself through respect, reverence and honour. Just as people would their king. He is our King of Kings and we are called to fight for His kingdom. This looks different each day. It looks like spiritual discipline, it looks like healing our own hearts through and with Christ, so we can be strong, it looks like showing up in our vocations and our relationships. To base our relationship with Him on good feelings is dangerous and automatically fatal. He is our refuge, in which He restores our hope and joy, He blesses us with these deep, sincere emotions, but it doesn’t always look like we imagine it in our finite, fleshly minds. It also is a process in getting to those moments because He is continually strengthening and refining us, which, is very challenging.

I found it very interesting that Seamus used to think before that if he doesn’t manage to get to confession before he dies, Jesus would know his intentions and his heart and that he would be forgiven. That’s my view too and so it was very interesting to hear that he learned that it’s not given or guaranteed & since then changed his attitude. I know it’s a personal story but it would be so interesting to hear more about it. Very valid point that made me think about it all.
