When listening to your descriptions of CHANEL‘s peeling leather, the word „timeless“ receives quite a new meaning. The bag wouldn‘t live up to its name, because peeling leather is the proof that it doesn‘t pass the test of time. So it‘s anything but timeless after all… such a pity for this truly iconic and timeless (!) design though.

Shame. Chanel used to be known for selling handmade bags (meaning, made via a sewing machine but not on an assembly line, mass produced) with the highest quality. That is why you can buy a bag made forty years ago. Now, people are questioning wtf they make their bags from. Where are they really made? There is something very shady with Chanel these days.

Fifteen years ago, it was commonly understood in economics that demand for luxury goods is relatively inelastic, meaning it is less affected by recessions compared to other goods. This explains why Chanel’s pricing strategy seemed justified. However, they failed when they compromised on quality, because that undermined the value proposition of luxury, turning off even their price-insensitive clientele.

Chanel doesn't want the masses buying their products. They don't do "drops." In fact, it's annoying and inconvenient to their target customer when the spring makeup is sold out instantly, and the sunglasses have been handled and tried on, covered with fingerprints. Someone said they have queues, well the boutique will look like Claire's in 15 minutes if they let everyone in. They are getting rid of the queues by pricing out middle market buyers.

I heard the craziest thing from someone who visited Paris. They went on a trip there to of course visit all the famous boutiques, one of which was Chanel. And they saw the factory which Chanel items are made. Just across the street and down the block (think same block, diagonally opposite ends) there is a location/factory that produces Chanel fakes. And guess who owns it? Chanel themselves. They own the original/authentic and the fake producing one. I fucking cannot. Why even buy luxury when you can buy a “fake” for a tenth of the price? Apparently it’s rumored they want both ends of the stick in their pocket. 🤦‍♀️

The Bertheimer family has so much money they could afford to completely change the business model of Chanel. To return it to its pre-eminence they should revert back to being a purely bespoke company, making clothes to order. They should reduce their ten shows to two haute couture runways per year only. On the side stay making accessories for ready-to-wear customers but up the quality considerably. The core of the business should be the prestige of their haute couture-only clothing line. And this would put Chanel's reputation back on top. Mass manufacture for Chanel has resulted in a reputation death spiral. The Bertheimers have enough income from their other luxury houses, they can afford to do this.

Designs really bad, all popular models are discontinued, but new micro bags for sky high prices are ridiculous. Chanel needs to change designer and focus on quality of their products. Good thing-at least it’s available for purchase in the store and customers don’t depend on salespeople mercy, like Hermes customers. Yes, Hermes charges just as much, but it’s never available.

Why can’t they cut their ridiculous prices in half..
They would still be making a HUGHE PROFIT.
They’re all SO GREEDY, even though they have way too much!

People have to be more careful with their money right now and Chanel's reaction to this economic climate is unreal. People are asleep at the wheel at that company.

I have several double flaps I want to sell. I’m wondering if I should take the offers I received from Fashionphile, since the value may decrease? Or will the value of older bags go up as people prefer to buy quality? I got $5k for a new sage green caviar medium flap and $3300 for a pre-2000 jumbo caviar beige.

I dont think that prices Go up soon. People cannot Afford and wont buy. I also Dont think that luxury will last because we have overconsumped lets say and new Trend will follow. Less luxury more travelling i think. More meaningful things, less overpriced bags. More Value in our lives not in our shelves.

It’s about time, …their latest designs are repetitive , most die hard Chanel fans already have one similar from previous seasons. Everything is getting expensive now , at the end , who will need 30-50 bags in their closet unless u are celebrities or public figures. 😢

Dacob you truly have figured this out for Chanel for some time now and to their detriment they have decided that they are above ALL of us. Shame, instead of looking at us as mere consumers they should be looking at us as a culture that is aware and also discriminate with what they value. As always, a cogent analysis. ✌🏽

The current owners of the brand, which was created by a woman who grew up in an orphanage and worked hard, are busy shitting on it 🤬maybe the Chanel fashion house should no longer belong to the Wertheimer family 🤔

It’s sad because I love Chanel, the bags, the history. I’ve never experienced any quality issues with classic flaps, I think the issues were with the seasonal bags.
Now they are a victim of their own demise. Once the bags reached 10K (and even before) people stopped buying. Including myself. It’s is just ridiculous. If they were not so greedy with their approach things would have been better. However, other brands are suffering too, Dior, YSL, Celine. Their price increases also hurt them.

Love Chanel and used to work in their beauty dept. The makeup creativity is not there anymore, the makeup brushes look cheap now. I still love the Fashion portion of and always will, but the price increase ridiculous and they allow all of the employees buy all the accessories before the consumers can't get to them and alot of the employees especially Neiman Marcus have always been snobby whether you buy or not. Customer service sucks.
