I find songs of today have more controversy surrounding them than anything Queen ever did! In my opinion, Bicycle Race and Fat-Bottomed Girls are tame in comparison. I love their music!!
Okay, so about 8 years ago, I would always arrive at work blasting my music. People from my shift at the picnic table would hear it. It was usually some ballad, like "Misty Blue" by Dorothy Moore. Well, one day I arrived playing "Fat Bottomed Girls." One of my co-workers came up to my car window & said "This is the first cool song I've heard you play!" 😅
My teenage daughter is into collecting original vinyl records, mostly Sabbath and Queen. She found an intact Jazz album a couple of months ago, complete with poster inside. My wife loved Fat Bottom Girls when it was out because she was overweight at this time when she was in high school... Queen really knew how to mix it up-- Their unpredictability and diversity is what made them awesome. Great 1 - 2 punch, Professor!
I find it hilarious how Fat Bottom Girls has gone from being considered sexist to being an anthem for body positivity. I far prefer the second interpretation, because at the bottom of it, (pun definitely intended!) a lot of women with bigger butts seem to love this song. And if Freddie Mercury can help you love your body, I'm all for it.
I would have taken it as a compliment also! Remember, that was the era of the model Twiggy. Boy am I aging myself here!!! I loved this song. I found it hilarious.
Queen were well known to be studio wizards who could do things in the recording studio that were difficult or impossible to play live... But with Fat Bottom Girls, you can clearly hear how the great live band puts the song together. The group vocals start, the guitar riffs, and then single notes on the kick drum establish the beat before it all takes off, and we get the first verse. Good fun? Hell yeah it is. At the time, every girl I knew who had a big bottom loved this song that praised her shape. They knew they made the rockin' world go round. Made a big man out of me.
Another one that hits home. Music today sorely needs Freddie. I still remember where I was when I heard he passed. Not ashamed to say I cried during the final Live Aid scene in Bohemian Rhapsody. You cannot explain the impact Queen (and well, Live Aid) had on society.
Live Aid was a seminal event for a number of reasons, the cause above all. But also the use of technology to create a global event on an unprecedented scale, the memorable performances ( and some less so) and the performance by Queen that stole the show but also restored the credibility of rock in the 20 minutes they graced the stage. It also went a long way to expunging the opprobrium sent their way, along with other artists, for playing Sun City in South Africa ( not surprising it attracted opposition). I can still remember the weather in the North West of England where I grew up near Liverpool on 13th July 1985 as I waited for the event to start at midday. It was an overcast morning with sunny intervals- I rode my bike to the library to take a book back and returned home to watch it. For once my parents let me watch the television all day given the import of the event. It was exciting although the long waits between appearances and technical glitches did spoil it a bit. Springsteen had appeared at Wembley in the previous month and left his stage for the concert, which I believe revolved so the turn around could be as efficient as possible. Nearly forty years later, the day is frozen in time as one of the most important of the last few decades.
Agreed. When the end credits rolled with "The Show Must Go On" song, I didn't know where to hide myself. I was surrounded by some younger friends of mine in the cinema and I didn’t want to show my tears to them. But to me that song was (and still is) very personal. I'll never forget that morning 25.11.1991 when I heard the news. And since then "The Show Must Go On" became a reminder of a very dark momet.
My husband sings ‘bicycle’ all the time-i had no idea it was queen until very recently. My husband is Belgian, and a transportation specialist, and he rides his bicycle every where. It’s definitely his song.
As a 76 year old grandmother who has loved Queen and particularly Freddie for nearly 50 years, Fat Bottomed Girls rocks. Having been to a good few Queen concerts, whenever Fat Bottomed Girls is played it gets the biggest cheer from the women and girls, we love it here in the UK.
because people in the UK aren't so dang sensitive and they have a better sense of humor than some where I am from in America in America its become the cool thing to be offended by almost anything
This old granny-lady is right up there with you, Joanne. I assumed everybody always knew that Killer Queen was NOT about a woman (the lyrics "Wanna try?" make it obvious) and that fat-bottomed girls (women) was a way to distinguish them from skinny-bottomed girls (men).
My cover band decided to add Fat Bottomed Girls to our setlist in 2017 after seeing what happened whenever someone played it on the jukebox while we were setting up at any bar anywhere. It was the anthem that empowered big women. They seemed to feel free to shake it without judgement. The same happened every time we played it live, even though my falsetto is pretty bad (I'm no Roger Taylor). I've never met a woman who was bothered by that song, and it packed the dance floor. We thought very carefully about it, and it was the right choice. Thanks to both of you naughty grannies! ♥♥
In the words of a Fat Bottom Girls-inspired tune, "The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'. That's what I said." ua-cam.com/video/7qDgCmzh5ao/v-deo.html @@charleshetrick3152
The first time that I saw Queen was them singing Bohemian Rhapsody on Don Kirchner’s Rock Concert which usually followed Midnight Special (Gawd, I’m old, LOL😀).
Loved the album cover, loved the songs! I actually thought Fat Bottom Girls would give a sense of pride to those girls who were in possession of said endowment. It was just stating a fact of life. They do "make the rockin' world go 'round". Certainly helps when it's such a catchy toon!
Especially now that having a "fat bottom" is what young women "influencers" want to achieve nowadays. In the 1970s, it was more stylish to be slender. It's all good and beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder. Be proud of what makes you unique.
You know that meme that says if you could bring back any lead singer to play again? I always pick Freddie Mercury. The way he could control the crowd and get the crowd to join in was amazing. There could never be another legend like Freddie. Thanks P.O.R for another awesome video. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Even when I know the stories behind certain songs, Adam’s takes on them always make recollecting them extend enjoyable and worthwhile. Thank you for that, man. 🤘✌🏼
I enjoy both songs musically, because Queen had talent that couldn't be ignored. When I first heard 'Bicycle Race' I thought it quite the odd subject for a song. 'Fat Bottom Girls' is one of my Queen favorites. I never found it offensive at all. I didn't even know about Freddie's sexuality at that time. In fact, I knew very little about the band aside from its name. I found the song humorous, and the nanny line is one of my favorites. Hey, everyone deserves to be loved and to each his or her own.
I was 20 when this album came out. The songs were played continuously on the radio. There was no negative feed back that I am aware of. People loved Queen and everything they did.
My older brother had left his record collection at my parents when he joined the navy. I remembered how creative record album covers were so I started exploring Alice Cooper's 'From the Inside' and then Queen's 'News of the World'. Then I picked up Jazz and noticed something inside - I slid it out...Bicycle Race poster! I never had any idea that groups were this controversial in the 70s, after all I was a headbanger and I knew controversy! I set up his old record player and had my first listen to 'Fat Bottom Girls' and have loved it ever since.
Fat Bottomed Girls is a top 3 song for me, and I've been waiting for the Professor to cover it! I never thought that the "Naughty Nanny" stanza was all that offensive. It's sung about memories from a boy's perspective, and I always assumed that it was an un-requited crush on a woman who didn't know her "generous" shape would have that effect on a kid. It's a confessional. I have, and will continue to think that stanza is hilarious.
I remember requesting bicycle race at my high school prom, it's one of my favorite memories. About 2 weeks ago my wife and i went to a grown up prom, it was really fun, had all the bells and whistles. I said it was fun, and it really was, right up to the point i requested bicycle race to be played by the dj and he asked me what it was. Totally ruined our night lol.
I remember buying Jazz, it was a surprise to find the picture inside... but the music was all great and was all in good fun. Never took their lyrics seriously, just great music
The opening a capella in "Fat Bottomed Girls"was awesome. Love Queen's harmonies. Funny that Freddy said they were just being cheeky. I was young when the song came out so I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. Looking back, Queen and "Fat Bottomed Girls" appear to be ahead of their time. 🤔😄
My wife and I went to her cousin's wedding, the song they walked out of the ceremony to was 'Fat bottomed girls', the bride and bridesmaids definitely paid tribute to the song. We weren't sure whether to laugh or not!
It's not my favorite Queen album, but it does have a lot of diversity in it, as you mentioned. I love Mustapha and Jealousy, and of course Don't Stop Me Now. Luckily, Queen took a snapshot of the live show during this time with "Live Killers" from 1979. Apparently the parties they had in New Orleans during this time were the epitome of excess and decadence. Right up Freddie's alley!
I had fallen out of love with rock at the time and was heavily into Outlaw Country. Then, I heard these two songs at my brothers. Controversial or not, I was instantly a Queen fan. I always took them as just fun songs.
I was in high school when this came out and I loved it. I'm having a hard time finding words to describe it, the vocal harmony of the "Bicycle, bicycle, bicycle", Brian May's guitar work, Freddy Mercury's character vocals. It's one of those songs that really blew me away. Fat Bottom Girls was great too.
I'm a life long fan of Queen! My husband and I have gotten our kids 19, 17, and 14 hooked on their music too! We see nothing wrong with their music. My daughter and I, who happen to be big and beautiful, will proudly and loudly sing "Fat Bottom Girls " in the kitchen while we cook!!❤
Hey Adam, great story as always. My dad had Jazz on vinyl and this record was kind of the introduction to rock music for my brother and I. We must have been 10 and 12 at the time. Unfortunately our copy didn’t have the poster. I think my dad bought the record for the “Mustafa” track. Queen had since become my brother’s favorite band. They really “hit the nail on the head” of controversy 6 years later in the US with the “I want to break free” video. They didn’t really recover well from that. Freddie was an amazing individual: rest in peace.
America lost out on allot of Queen songs because of the video I Want To Break Free at the time, unfortunately. America was a bunch of prudes back then. Apparently we still are!!!!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
As a curvy gal, I’ll put my vote in for “all in good fun” for F.B.G., but Bicycle Race has a special place in my heart because of my dad. When I was little, he worked as a bicycle mechanic in a shop owned by his friend. I have a lot of fond memories of the shop. He also did some racing in his youth. And, of course, my dad has always been a Queen fan. … Yes, I must say that anyone offended by these songs and their videos needs to lighten up and loosen the grip on their pearls. There are so many things more worthy of protest, both then and now.
All in good fun to be sure. My favorite band and one of my favorite songs. Who else could sing an anthem for all of us heavy a&&ed gals and and make it so entertaining? Fat bottomed girls unite!! I remember the first time I played the song in front of my kids, they gave me questioning looks like, "Is this really appropriate and why does mom like it?" I got to see Queen last fall with Adam and this song was a highlight!! Love Queen forever!
I’d always thought that Queen’s chief hook beyond their undeniable talent was their versatility to adapt to the changing evolution of rock and even delve into different genres. “Fat Bottom Girls”? That song is without a doubt Brian Mays homage to American Southern Rock. Another great episode, Professor.
❤🎉 Love the dynamic inside Queen....... quiet, cerebral Brian May paired with the flamboyant Freddie Mercury. I love to ride my bicycle with a fat bottomed girl! 😅 Thanks for this deep dive! Great shirt too!
The first time I heard this song on the radio I was just a kid, and I laughed my butt off (pun absolutely intended!) at the idea of a song about big butts! Then I went through my teenage, easily offended politically correct days, and dropped Queen for grunge, but I'm glad that I've rediscovered them and my sense of humour. Watching so many women I know struggle with their weight, and how they hate their beautiful bodies, I love this song again for how it makes women with booty feel good. And it's just a damn fun song - those harmonies, that rhythm! Such a classic!
@@ProfessorofRock My 8 yr old niece laughed too when I played this song for her, and it made her an instant Queen fan! Because to 8 yr olds, songs about big butts are the peak of entertainment.
The Big One That Got Away In 1974 I tried to talk my high school principal into letting me book Queen for a high school dance. The cost would've been $2,000. This was after Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack were released, so those of us who followed rock knew Queen would become a huge success. A year later "A Night at the Opera" was released and leading rock magazines proclaimed Queen "The Kings of Rock". My request was turned down out😢 of concern that receipts wouldn't cover the contract cost. 😱 Instead I booked a band called "Mister Moose" that played warmup for big name bands in the early 70s. A band member was related to a girl at our school and helped me book them for $500. We charged $5 for admission and cleared $2,000 profit. Naturally I went back to the principal again, but a couple of pot-smoking incidents during the Mister Moose concert led him to ban rock concerts on school property.
Queen really defied convention and went their own way. Isn't that what rock n roll is all about? This is our art and no one can tell us it's not! Ultimately it boils down to what has always mattered, is it good music? I think over a billion streams screams YES, Queens music was not just good, but great!
Great video! I'm old enough to remember when Jazz hit the stores. I couldn't wait to get my copy and it became one of my favorite albums. I never thought it was controversial, because I've always had a sense of humor. It still puts a smile on my face today!
I was 11 when this album came out. My younger brother and I went to the record store to buy it in the small town where we lived. The owner of the record store was our neighbor and a friend of our dad and he did not want to sell us the album because it had a “dirty” picture in it. We eventually compromised and he took the album into his office, broke the seal and removed the “dirty” picture and then sold the album to us without the picture.
This is what's sorely missing from missing from music today...testing the limits in a fun, playful way instead of being sleazy and intelligence-insulting. I miss the days of controversial lyrics and album art.
Great video. So crazy after all these years Fat Bottomed Girls is still played on radio just as much as We Will Rock You/ We are the Champions and Bohemian Rhapsody . Love the channel 👍✌️
In 1978,astrophysisist Brian May,assisted by Freddy Mercury, postulated that the earths rotation was due to fat bottomed girls. After 45 years without being disproven, refuted or even being seriously questioned, this now must be considered scientific fact.
Being a Queen fan , I bought the album before I even heard one song . Loved it from the first play 😊 and I still have the poster . Never displayed it , always tucked away in the album sleeve like a time capsule.
was telling orher viewer we had the original record in scool poster was still.in the sleeve when sold 07 another viewer said the reissue has one also i think.we my brother and i had the pi ture disc novety 80s could get for a few dollars we had a bunch if those from.budget bin wirh cut outs also i think we had news picture disc also plus 3 or 4 bowies stones majesty rush pictures just junk.then now collectible
I saw Queen in concert at the time this single was released, so I saw them perform both songs, along with other songs from the Jazz album. It was my first time hearing it before I had ever heard it on the radio. The show was fantastic, possibly the best one I've ever seen in my life! And of course the album was fantastic as well. But, I was still living at home and didn't care to let my parents hear some of it.
My parents had this album, complete with poster. Apparently my siblings and I were really horrible children and we played frisbee with their record collection. 😳 They threw them all away including anything that came with the records. To his dying day my dad talked about how he regretted throwing away that poster because it became a valuable collectors item. I don’t think he ever forgave us. 😢
Growing up in the 70s and 80s where most famous women had no butts at all I think it was actually beneficial for us, knowing that being curvier was more appealing. I also think they will always be people who are more playful in their belief systems, and people who are a little more conservative. 🎉
Omg, FBG has got to be my favorite song from one of my favorite bands. I think Jazz was the first Queen album I bought in high school. And I’m proud to say my wife today makes the rocking world go round.
I am a woman and Fat Bottomed Girls is one if my favorite of Queen's songs. It's just good fun. But, I am also 5'2" and laughed at the song Short People by Randy Newman. People today take everything so serious and get so offended way too easy. No sense of humor and. lacking a sense of fun. The constant negativity of people today is stifling. People need to stop taking themselves and everything so serious and learn to kick back and not get their feathers all ruffled over a little fun. Losen up
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980Has become.....just louder. When Rolling Stones released " Some Girls" in ' 78 plenty of "girls" were protesting, they are still protesting.....
When I passed away, my best friend knows to take my ashes to the first baseball field she finds and spread my ashes around first base while playing "Fat Bottomed Girls". She must scream "Get on your bikes and ride!"
Fat Bottomed Girls / Bicycle Race was one of the best singles in history because the latter namechecked the former in the lyrics. Queen success came from a whole lot of radio play which makes 45's important.
@proffesorofRock, I love the way you conduct every interview. You give each guest an uplifting respect and honor that some of them have not experienced in many years. You are a great one Adam. I love this channel.
I remember hearing Bicycle Race being covered by the band on the kids show The Great Space Coaster when I was younger.....loved then, love the song now, and how can anyone get angry over Fat Bottomed Girls? Great songs by a great group.
I remember when "Jazz" was released in 1978. There was controversy regarding these two songs but Queen fans I knew took them as a harmless joke. Maybe a bit much for some in 1978, but tame by the graphic junk recorded now. If you knew Queen, you would recognize these songs were tongue in cheek. These two songs are still played by Queen in their 2023 tour and tribute bands play them as well. They are well received by men and women fans. RnR and controversy once again. No big deal.
I have the album and it had the full poster included. In Canada we aren't such prudes. Also will be seeing the IMAX presentation of Queen Live in Montreal '81 at the same venue I saw the original concert at. It is going to be a crazy time warp
I think Queen was amazing. Freddie McCurry was the perfect front man and showman. Brian May is one of the best guitar players in Rock. Fat bottom Girls and Bicycle will forever be classics.
I bought this album in March 1980, when I was 14. I was visiting a friend who lived in another town for a few days. We did a day-trip to Toronto, which included my first ever time going to Sam the Record Man, and A&A records stores on Yonge St. At one of the shops they had Jazz on sale for a crazy low price, like $5. My friend and I both bought copies, and they included the poster. I just about wore out the grooves playing the album. I must have drive my parents crazy because I always played it really loud.
What was advertised and hinted at in the 70’s and 80’s are now considered “illegal” thanks to cancel culture…. Maybe I’m showing my age, but I miss the tongue in cheek humor!
You haven't listened to today's "music." F this and that. Women are regularly called witches with a B. Let alone the calls for violence. And of course the one that is a mystery, the "N" word being used constantly. I know most can handle the language, I'm just avoiding being censored.
Hey Professor, love your videos and appreciate the meticulous research that you do. That being said, your last few videos have all been covering 1970s songs (and one from the 1960s). Are you going to start doing 1980s music again? Thanks!
In the record I worked at in the 80's had this HUGE (had to have been 5' long) poster, a promotional poster for Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls / Bicycle Race and it was like 30 girls all on bicycles with their butts exposed. No faces, just the backside of the women. Eveyone (except me, my Mom would have killed me) fought for the chance to take that poster home but only my manager got it.
In college when this album dropped, both of these songs helped me with many dates, surprising enough. I still have both of these songs on my Favorites playlist.
I have been DJing for going on the last four decades and every night I always play just the song We Will Rock You and then right after that song ends abruptly with Brian May's fantastic guitar, I choose a major Non- Queen Hard Rock tune and kick you in the nuts instead of the lame We Are The Champions. Nobody wants to hear those two back-to-back in a DJ Gig. When I do this, it just blows people's minds and sometimes I don't know what song I'm going to play right after We Will Rock you but it always takes the crowd by surprise! Success, success, success!
Finally!!! This has been my favorite song since I was thirteen I have listened to it every day for six years and it never gets old!! I absolutely love this song and it means so much to me! Thank you professor!
I have a bit of an uncouth story with this song an an ex gf. Won’t go into too much detail but it involved a rest area, her needing the toilet, some bushes, shining my headlight on her and blasting this song out of my car speakers. After a few profanities she did see the funny side.
Personally I love the early Queen stuff, Queen, QueenII,Shear Heart Atttack, A night at the Opera, A day at the races. I think bicycle race/Fat Bottom Girls is a push back to the older stuff. But for me the best song was written by Roger Taylor I'm in Love with my Car
These songs were so totaly in tune with the fun of the '70s, wasn't insulted then & definitely not now! Totally in line with some of the funniest & explicit jazz & early rock songs that have struck a chord with the public. And the visual of the bike seats needing replaced...😂😂😂
Always love Queen because they travelled their own path and these two songs just highlight that fact and their irreverence to what others thought at the time of their careers.
I still consider this my favorite Queen album. Got it the day it was released and quickly made a cassette of it for my car. To this day Jazz and the other monumental Nov 1978 release "Totally Hot" are up there as my favorites. Even back then in college I knew this was all in good fun and still see nothing wrong, even my kids find both of these songs not only well made but funny.
LOL!!! People need to stop clutching their pearls and have some serious fun in life! Freddie was all out there for having fun! We need more people like him in this world!
Jazz is a fantastic Queen album and it has it all their signature hard rock in dead on time and fat bottomed girls, beautiful balladry in jealousy and in only seven days and everything else you'd expect from a classic Queen album and also an end of a classic 70s run of albums from Queen as well
George, I agree with you. Jazz is a great album. So is News of the World. They both have the double-A side hits and all the rock, ballad, and classic greats. I actually think of News of the World and Jazz as double A-side albums as they are awesome and are arranged very similarly in late-70's Queen greatness. I guess the double A-side album idea isn't new at all for Queen, as they did it with Night at the Opera and Day at the Races. And just like Day at the Races, Jazz is severely underrated. These four albums mark the best string of albums ever by anyone, maybe even surpassing the Beatles.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 that there is however this album has some of Roger Taylor's weakest songs and usually Roger's songs are my favourites on all of the 70s Queen albums he just brings that rambunctious rock and roll spirit to Queen and also doesn't queen on all of their albums especially the 70s albums have awesome deep album cuts
I still have my original vinyl of Jazz. I saw Queen on that 1980 tour and remember Freddy coming out on Darth Vader during we are the champions. Great group and great songs.
I was totally into Queen when this came out. I had all their albums to this point, and as soon as Jazz came out I got it, so I got one with the poster in it. I was a senior in High School at the time, so the theme and racy image (pun intended) were very appealing. I can understand if women find it offensive, although I know many who don’t think it is, but I loved it. I remember my first listen to the album thinking, “whoa, this is different.” But I played it multiple times and at some point realized I really liked it. I was the first in my group of friends to buy it (possibly first in my High School, this was northern Minnesota in the 70s). News of the World had been popular, so my friends were asking me about Jazz. I recall telling them that I thought it was great….but I wasn’t sure if they would think so. Ha! I had much more eclectic tastes than the rest. I think only one of them bought it.
I was in 10th grade when Jazz came out. That naked girl poster was right in my wheelhouse. Although I had many rock posters on my wall back in the day, I dared not put that one up. By the way Happy New Year to the greatest rock pundit out there.
Love the story, love the controversy. I’m a little bummed that you didn’t bring up the fact that Brian May has taken Fat Bottomed Girls off of the greatest hits re-release. He should be chastised for removing this song. Freddy would never have done this.
People are always too serious when it comes to stuff that doesn't matter. Yet they can't be bothered with important things because that requires effort.
Always share your videos on FB & GAB, hopefully some have joined from these two platforms to help y'all get to 1 MIL! I don't remember ever hearing FBG's on the radio at all.
Mom's the one purchasing this tape to take on our Road Trip to FL when I was a Sophamore in High School...WHAT A SHOCK...And, then all six of my siblings and she just cracked-up. Queen's still one of our favorite Albums making repeated presentations at Family Gatherings. Love Freddie's Acapella Voice...Naughty in a nice way and somehow, never gave a dang about the creepiness of it. After a lifetime of dealing with perversion and depravity in a professional manner...Sometimes, it's better to just laugh as it's wise to choose our battles wisely because life is filled with the bizarre and nightmarish.
Poll: What is your pick for the MOST CREATIVE guitar solo of the rock era?
I'm going to say "Like A Stone" by Audioslave. Is that still considered the rock era? 😁
Eruption -- Van Halen
Like A Stone -- Audioslave. Tom Morello is great.
House of Broken Love -- Great White.
Steve Vai's "For The Love of God"
Not sure if it's rock era, but it's killer.
For sure. @@BillGraper

Another one that hits home. Music today sorely needs Freddie. I still remember where I was when I heard he passed. Not ashamed to say I cried during the final Live Aid scene in Bohemian Rhapsody. You cannot explain the impact Queen (and well, Live Aid) had on society.
We need Freddie for sure.
It was such an emotional movie.
When I first heard Crazy Little Thing Called Love, I thought it was sung by Elvis!!! That’s how good Freddie was!!!!
This came out in college. This song was a huge joke all around the campus especially with the guys. Have loved Queen since the beginning. RIP Freddie.
But there’s always some truth in every joke, you were in college you musta learned *the greater the mass, the greater the attraction”

The first time that I saw Queen was them singing Bohemian Rhapsody on Don Kirchner’s Rock Concert which usually followed Midnight Special (Gawd, I’m old, LOL😀).
We didn't know how lucky we were living when this music came out. We thought that's the way it would always be...
Loved the album cover, loved the songs! I actually thought Fat Bottom Girls would give a sense of pride to those girls who were in possession of said endowment. It was just stating a fact of life. They do "make the rockin' world go 'round". Certainly helps when it's such a catchy toon!
Agreed. Thanks Gabby!
I thought the same. That big bottomed girls would find it a compliment that they were being celebrated
Especially now that having a "fat bottom" is what young women "influencers" want to achieve nowadays. In the 1970s, it was more stylish to be slender.
It's all good and beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder. Be proud of what makes you unique.
@@ProfessorofRock Gabby? Is that a hint I'm hogging the comment section? Lol
Fat Bottom Girls turned into PAWGs.
Thanks for listening!
"With Queen, there's always one more (controversy) to go." Thank God!
Ha ha! Yep.
I know!
All that mattered was how good the music was.
This was exactly what I thought about the nanny part too.

Amen! Love them.
Just had to enjoy the ride.
Love what Freddy said about it. Thanks Ted.
They do sing it like they mean it.
They wanted to have a good time!
Bicycle Race is such a gem! It's one of my all-time favorites! Thanks for this shout-out. ❤
Of course a physicist like May would know what makes the world go around 😂
He knows the little intricate details.
In 1982, I took my 7 year old son to a Queen concert in Seattle. He really enjoyed the concert so much that he started dancing shirtless.
How does he feel about it years later?

Great Professor!
Thanks for asking.
2024 is off to a great start.
Brian was introspective, but also an astrophysicist.
I know what you mean. I laughed for a while. I was only 8
Best song about butts before Baby Got Back!
@@ProfessorofRock My 8 yr old niece laughed too when I played this song for her, and it made her an instant Queen fan! Because to 8 yr olds, songs about big butts are the peak of entertainment.
Crazy how booties are in today huh? 🤣🤣
You just replaced one political correct notion with another.
The Big One That Got Away
In 1974 I tried to talk my high school principal into letting me book Queen for a high school dance.
Instead I booked a band called "Mister Moose" that played warmup for big name bands in the early 70s.
No question. A band that made the world go round! WHat's your favorite song by them?
Their music was legendary.
@@ProfessorofRock One Vision or Flash Gordon The Hero.
Yeah, they'd freak if they found out Sir Mix-a-Lot liked big butts or about all these Khias and such popping their pu55ies like that.
And if musicians do try to push their song too far, people try to cancel them!!
Great video. So crazy after all these years Fat Bottomed Girls is still played on radio just as much as We Will Rock You/ We are the Champions and Bohemian Rhapsody . Love the channel 👍✌️
Thanks!

The bicycle shop missed out on a major cash cow. They should have sold the bikes, "used, as is" and promoted their Queen connection.
They were just prisses.
Hands down, Fat Bottom Girls is by far my favorite Queen song. There's something about that raunchy blues riff paired with their impeccable harmonies.

My brother would sing this to his wife and we all would giggle hysterically. He was a fan of a certain Sir Mixalot song too.
Our dog would perk up his ears and run to the window when the bell solo came on during Bicycle Race.
He can't - or ought not to blame you - he could have given you some spankings and/or put the records away.
Growing up in the 70s and 80s where most famous women had no butts at all I think it was actually beneficial for us, knowing that being curvier was more appealing. I also think they will always be people who are more playful in their belief systems, and people who are a little more conservative. 🎉
Trust me. It not only was, it still is more appealing.

Love both of those songs I guess I was oblivious to the fact that there was any controversy around them.

Good one!
Jazz is a fantastic Queen album and it has it all their signature hard rock in dead on time and fat bottomed girls, beautiful balladry in jealousy and in only seven days and everything else you'd expect from a classic Queen album and also an end of a classic 70s run of albums from Queen as well
Thanks George. Agreed.
