They are all of what makes The Who...The Who! Fantastic view with this one. Calling Keith Moon an Animal. He is who Animal from the Muppets was created after. Pretty Perfect! Thanks for sharing this one!
The Who actually did 2 different shows at Shepperton. The first one lasted about 90 minutes. The director didn’t think the energy level was high enough, so he had them come back weeks later and just do “Won’t get fooled again” and “Baba O’Reilly” because those were the two tracks they wanted for the film. Townsend’s hyperactivity was a response to the criticism of the first show.
1978 shepperton was where Ridley Scott was filming Alien next door and he borrowed The Whos rare expensive blue laser for the egg chamber sceen. also Animal from the muppets was based on Keith Moon
The only downside to watching this performance is that, if you've never heard the song, you are too distracted to listen to the lyrics, which are phenomenal and prophetic. This song is even more relevant today than ever. IMHO, the greatest rock political anthem ever! Not to downplay the performance and the music, which are obviously spectacular.

Lasers were a relatively new stage effect at the time, and The WHO used them here, because they were in a real film studio, and it was a good environment to do it in. Love John Entwistle's Bass, with the spider web on it, a reference to his song "Boris The Spider", which I don't think you have reacted to yet. It is a fun, "novelty" tune, and John sings it. Another good one is "The Quiet One".
Yeah, CSI loves WHO! ... There are several CSI shows on TV (like CSI Miami, CSI New York, CSI Las Vegas, ...) and they all use WHO songs as their intro / theme song. "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Who Are You?", "I Can See For Miles", "Baba O'Riley", ... I guess that some guy at the "CSI studio" is a WHO fan!? o_O XD
Why Pete is rarely mentioned in the top ten of rock guitarists is beyond me. FWIW, I always heard that this take was the second take they did that day because the director told them after the first take was not the definitive take that he wanted. So they went back out and produced this masterpiece. Their prime? I'd say 1969-1976.
Compelling laser display for 1978. I remember when lasers were first developed c.1961. The first ones produced "coherent" light by wrapping a flash tube around a ruby rod so the light produced was red. These were blue so probably ionic argon. FWIW. Keith was showing the effects of chronic alcohol abuse and looking unhealthy. He died shortly after this I believe. Pete experimented with psychedelics - everybody did - but quickly became disillusioned and would say that drugs were the "worst things on the planet." This was the last of the REAL Who IMO. They carried on minus Keith and his manic energy. But there was only one Keith

Hope the music you're discovering is a salve for some of the trials of life. I wonder if the widespread mental health issues in young people is partly caused by the dearth of great music. In my young days, there was always great new music to get lost in and to get lifted by. Seeing you and other reactors discover the 'old' stuff makes me realise how lucky a generation we were...
Awesome, they rock like Fire.
Saw them many times in the 60s and 70s - at festivals no band ever wanted to follow The Who. It just couldn’t be done.
Only Jimi Hendrix could do it, and did, I think, at the Monterey Pop Festival 1967 ?
NOT TO BE TAKEN AWAY
Like Pink Floyd the Who were some of the 1st to use ;laser;light shows and synthesizer That scream at the end is one of the most iconic moments in rock They held the Guinness book of records for being the loudest live band for decades Ive seen hundreds of concerts but to this day the Whos 10th anniversary concert in 74 at Madison Square Garden The highlight for me was when they did Listening to you from the Tommy album They turn all the lights on the stage and then spots come oin from allover on the crowd as they sing listening to you I get the music Yes Pete does the keyboards and back in the day when they played in concert the keyboard was on a tape playing while they played the rest live. Pete said there was no room for error because the tape was gonna play what it was gonna play no matter what they did The famous Marshal stack was invented by request from the Who and is a staple to this day
I've never seen a drummer with his headphones duct taped to his head so they don't fall off!
Keith was one of the best drummers in rock history. It's a good profession for someone with ADHD.
The Who were the first band to use lasers in their concerts
Wonder how Pete’s knees are doing these days? Keith😊😍Thank you for sharing. I love these guys! Early Emerson, Lake, and Palmer were pretty flamboyant and did lots of cool stuff w light etc too.
He wore knee pads as shown in a photo shoot, but there IS only so much a human body can take.
@@jonathanroberts8981 as somebody who has had six surgeries on my knees, I definitely can tell when things cause a lot of stress on somebody’s knees. I love watching Pete dance, though
Great performance.. miss John and moonie. BTW lee, Roger was ripped well into his 60s, he took great care of himself. He put men half his age to shame. Still does.
Welcome to classic rock and roll Sir!
I guess that some guy at the "CSI studio" is a WHO fan!? o_O XD
You must checkout the isolated footage of John Entwistle for this performance. Absolutely insane skills!
Saw them play this live + Tommy
Why Pete is rarely mentioned in the top ten of rock guitarists is beyond me. FWIW, I always heard that this take was the second take they did that day because the director told them after the first take was not the definitive take that he wanted. So they went back out and produced this masterpiece. Their prime? I'd say 1969-1976.
See me feel me from isle of wight is must
Woodstock is also really good.
Great vid as usual. Thank you. That fucking Les Paul. He put it over his head and I FROZE. I knew what he was gonna do. Smash that Beautiful piece of work. That Lester Paul still finished the fucking show.
Fantastic energi great song
Love your channel. Love The Who!
You think that's "WOW" you should have seen some of the Pink Floyd Laser Shows. Those were WOW!
Roger lived in a huge mansion in the UK and they filmed a horror movie there.
Interesting to hear you talk about how different the four of them are. That's the whole idea of Quadraphenia (about a kid who is recognizes that he's comprised of four completely different personalities.).
