  • Are small electronics kits from Wish any good? I bought a handful to test and assemble!

Old and obsolete android phone is good function generator, oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer. Audio frequency and low voltages, obviously

Which apps do you use for that? I presume you have some cable the feeds a signal in via the 3.5mm to the mic pins?

That's an interesting point. A bit like using a soundcard in a PC to do the same thing, only a lot smaller. Might look into that.

7:24 - Good to see that some things don't change 🙂 I bought my tester five to ten years ago and had exactly the same problem with tolerance around the button. I just left the button off and stick my little finger through the hole (this has the advantage that in my pile of junk, the power button doesn't get pressed and the battery doesn't drain as a result). I've still got the same battery in from when I first put the kit together and it's still working fine.

Here are a couple things I have run into on those kits. For the function generator run it at

I use one of those component testers all the time, when you get to my age reading component values isn't as easy as it was.

My main caliper nowadays is one of those carbon fiber infused polymer ones. They aren't super precise if what you're measuring requires a lot of pressure but for your day to day quick usage they are amazing and basically expendable. I love those little things.

Good when measuring magnets. Enough precise for 3D printing.

There is only one problem with the caliper. The cell (probably LR44) will last for a couple of weeks only and it doesn't matter if it is on or off. I always take out the cell when I'm not using it.

I believe it doesn't actually go right off. Just into a low power standby.

First time watching you, gonna stick together :).
The M-tester is mighty useful, almost indispensable - makes component identification and quick checking a breeze.

Thanks for watching! It really is a very handy tool especially when you can't see the tiny numbers on some of these components!

I assembled that little transparent tester too. I don't know if mine is defective but the battery wears out rather quickly even if I'm not using it. I have a suspicion that it doesn't actually turn off but instead goes into a sort stand-by mode where it still draws a little current.

Nice video. However while I purchase a lot of everything on line I gave up on wish I’m thinking over 6 years ago. Either because of dubious adverts where one had to read the fine print to find out one was getting just a single item and not say 4 pcs.
Then they started charging silly shipping
But final straw was my last order took over 3 months to arrive.

In Aust Wish arrives pretty quickly, although they are getting slower. Sadly I've found kits from Wish to be very inferior.

Try a Triac in the component tester. Mine IDs the MT1 and MT2 pins backwards. Has no problem with SCRs. I was wondering if they fixed that issue. THANX

    • @JazzyJane_uk
      @JazzyJane_uk  4 місяці тому

Yes, just tried it. You are correct it does ID the pins backwards on Triacs, same results on the T5 and the T7. I try a Thyristor just out of interest which it identified correctly.

@@JazzyJane_uk Thanx for testing. I won't buy a new one then. Mine is 7 years old so no reason to get new one with same problem. I just wrote a note on the case that Triacs pins are reversed.

I would pay double the price for a t7 if they put an original texttool in, not a TFXTTDOL.
