34:27 - matpat tearing up over the idea of not being able to say goodbye to steph/ not being able to find her after death is SO SWEET. like this couple makes me believe in love because it’s so obvious that everything he does is with her in kind.

I tell my husband constantly… he is not allowed to die. I will be 40 in June, he is 5 years younger than I. I still feel very young, and he is of the opposite mindset age-wise… but we are so very much deeply in love and see fully eye to eye on every other aspect of life. We are each others forever… I can not imagine my life without him.💘♾️
I think Matpat also won life, Steph is great and she is perfect for him, also she opened him up to a lot of things he might've not experienced otherwise
I can't even think about me or my husband dying without crying. I want to live a long life with him and see our daughter grow old with whatever she chooses
Except Sans is Ness 😂😂 or the time he gave the pope undertale and people lost their minds. Come to think of it Undertale is responsible for so many of his "controversies" 😂😂

matpat ONLY tearing up about death when he thinks about not being able to see his wife again is truly heartbreaking but so so sweet. he is such a good lover
Watching Matpat choke up so heavily about his wife was just... I know people who are married, people who've been married fifty years, who don't feel that level of intensity or love for another person. He really is something special.
I would genuinely love to see an episode of this with Stephanie. She's a massive part of Game theory and the whole brand, but we only see a fraction of her presence on the surface. It would be amazing to see her perspective and her story in addition to Mat's. He's talked before about how she's so integral to the channel but often doesn't get enough credit, and it would be really cool to see her get a spotlight like this. And I know she'd super appreciate the food too, haha

It got me too. I was literally having the same thoughts about my husband last week cept I kinda sent myself into a spiral about being afraid of dying. I feel like once you get to your 30s, you start thinking about death a lot more and sometimes it's overwhelming. I feel too young to be having an existential crisis 😅
This may be the best episode yet. All of them have been amazing, but MatPat just has such a presence that really meshes amazingly with Josh. They kept playing off each other, but still got super deep and introspective, which was just beautiful. I didn't get to watch MatPat for very long before he retired, but I'm definitely going back to his older stuff because he's just such a great guy.
You can just tell how much Mat loves Steph. Throughout the episode he’s just building her up, making sure people know it was the two of them building up all the theory channels. Him getting emotional at the end made me tear up
0:13 "You might recognize today's guest from Game Theory, or perhaps Film Theory, or perhaps Style Theory, or pehaps Food Theory, or perhaps from your local retirement home" I recognize him from GTLive, actually (which MatPat's still the host of, btw) 🏆
I guess I can't complain if not having the guests say their Last Meal in the intro helps the vid perform better, but I really did love hearing the guests "spell it all out" of some of their favorite foods for us. People like Ben Schwartz and Gabriel Iglesias had a lot of fun reading off _just how much they were going to be eating_ that day, and it opens up a beginning convo of all that they asked for (and then delves into the specifics as the dishes are presented to them.) Regardless, i'm so happy to see MatPat on here! Even though I never watched a whole lot of his stuff, the few videos and collaborations I did see showed me his great charisma, intelligence, and humble nature. He seems like a loving, happy guy who cares about a lot of "how's" & "why's" in the world, but enjoys delving into the "what if's?" Hope he enjoys the most out of his retirement and has ample time to relax with his family!
I will never shut up about how much I truly adore MatPat. He will always be someone I look up to. His explanation of what he thinks happens after death and the reusing of matter genuinely made me feel a bit less anxious. And the way he loves Steph is so deeply impactful. He's not some crazy man shouting about his wife, but the way he talks about her, the way he reacts with her, his fear of death simply because he may never see Steph and his family again(and obviously vice versa to him), it's so excruciatingly beautiful and it is truly admirable
MatPat is one of the YTers that haven't let the YT game get to their head. He still managed to keep his personality the same wholesome over the years, and that's one of the things I loved about watching MatPat, both as a teen and up to now.
aw that part at the end where MatPat gets emotional about dying without Stephanie... it made me tear up as well. I appreciate him being so vulnerable, you can see just how much he really truly loves his wife and of course Ollie as well. absolutely precious
Yeah I personally don’t like it. I don’t think it will make it as special. It worked back when marvel was a small ip for Chris Evans but I don’t think it will make it work the same now
Mat's words about how he wants to die next to Steph in his sleep, and how he worries about not finding her in whatever comes next makes me think so much of my own wife and man who's cutting onions in here?
The empathy this man has for his wife is the purest show of love I have ever seen. Literally brought a tear to my eye seeing him cry over just the thought that he could live a day without Steph, protect this man
Man I teared up when Mat and Josh started to talk about the birth of Olly and the death of Ronnie. That was when I watched every ep as they came out, and joined every live stream of GT Live. It hit hard when they announced that Ronnie was gone. "I digress." RIP Ronnie Oni Edwards.
This is so inspiring. The true, genuine love Mat has for Steph. His insight on everything - especially life as a whole and always wanting to learn. Truly, this is one of my favorite videos on youtube. He really has become one of my favorite youtubers. I feel changed from this and that I need to thank MatPat for just being him.
Matt crying about Stephanie at the end...good lord it hurt. Such an amazing creator, even if you are retired Matt. You will continue to change the world
Find yourself a partner who loves you as much as MatPat loves Steph. Hearing him and seeing him tear up during the lightning round was so heartfelt, and I can only hope that I get to experience that one day.
God seeing Mathew near the end talking about his partner was moving; I can only hope to find someone who feels the same someday. I'm so glad you have each other and your son. Honestly this entire episode was super inspiring; I laughed and cried and learnt something. Definitely my favorite of this series.
this was beyond what I was hoping for, I am so glad I got to see this wonderfully delightful get together. I’ve enjoyed both these energies for so so long (especially on sadder or tougher days) this was so genuinely warming to watch. thanks so so much to you guys, and everyone who made this possible. ❤
MatPat talking about losing Steph hit hard. That's exactly how I feel. The thing that scares me the most in this world is the thought of losing my husband and never seeing him again. Whether that's because he's gone or I am. I wasn't trying to cry into my coffee today Mat jeez!
One of my favorite things: Matt always introduces her as “My wife and partner Stephanie”. It doesnt matter if the discussion is about their relationship, their child, or their company, he introduces her as his partner. She isn’t just someone he stood across from in a church, or the mother of his child. She is his partner, his equal, his counterpart and his anchor. He loves her for everything, and truly appreciates her. It’s so beautiful
it's weird that this is my favorite last meal yet, it feels so much personable and full of life. don't get me wrong, the gordon ramsay one was incredible and i'm glad you were able to get him on and cook for him, but matpat was probably the best guest yet. and it's strange because i think i like matpat more when he's off gametheory, i used to watch the pre-fnaf vids like ness = sans or all the weird mario theories but i fell off of it as i grew older. but it's cool to see him now just a guy living his life with his wife and his kid. matthew if you're for some reason reading the comments of this, live your best life man, i wish nothing but love and prosperity for you. also it's not too late to go back into theater even if it's for fun, upload the entirety of beetlejuice on a personal channel or something lmao
Sometimes I eat peanut butter and it kind of tastes like rocks. I woke up yesterday and realized I wasn’t eating rice I was eating a 1990 unknown sidcon starring Danny Devito. Then I told this to my dog and he transported me to California.
I can’t get over just how much this show is like the antimatter of Hot Ones. The food being anti-torture and having the kind of people I’m interested in like Mat Pat are only two of the thing’s done differently and it works so vary well. Bravo 👏 👏 👏 👏
It's also much more open-ended questions that allow guests to rant and delve into details they find important, rather than sweatily rush through their words
Ngl, I really liked hearing the interviewee list off the foods for their last meals at the beginning. I always felt they were the first and foremost personal pieces of information they shared about themselves. So happy for MatPat rn. I never really got into any of the Theory stuff, but he always came across as a very genuine, kind guy, and I have nothing but respect and good wishes to his future!
34:31 This is my exact fear, too. I had no real thoughts or feelings about death until I met my husband. Now, I could never get enough time with him. One of my favourite lyrics is “I find it bittersweet because you gave me something to lose”. I feel lucky enough to have found a great love, but it also hurts to think about the time we will have to say goodbye.
Ronnie will always be remembered! I grew up with Ronnie and our whole school class was devastated hearing the tragic news. Truly a unique one of a kind human being. Had a beautiful memorial for him at our 10 Year class reunion.
I love MatPat's genuine excitement over the mystery sampler platter! You can tell he's like a kid discovering a new flavor for the first time with each bite
The truest joy to see Matpat on Last Meals. Truly the highlight of my day. Also, of course Matpat wanted a sampler of something that can teach him, and JOSH WAS THE PERFECT PERSON TO DO IT
Love you MatPat! Thank you for your service and sharing your life! Been watching you since early 2010's and I'm so happy for you and your family! Josh and crew are awesome too thank you!

AND I love these Last Meals videos!!! they're genuinely so interesting and get so deep. plus the food looks insanely good always
30:39 we had this with my great grandma, my father remembered eating meatballs that were amazing, but there isn't any recipe, so my granpa had to use my father's memory/description and his cooking ability to re create them, it's like a 2 year project but he has done it
My oldest niece was born the same day my uncle passed 13 years ago next month. She looks so much like my mother who passed a year prior. So what MatPat said about the recycling of atoms I have always thought about it since my niece's birth. She has alot of my mother's traits and my other uncle when he visits always looks at her to be the spitting image of my mother when she was younger, she's just as creative. She has the same cheeky side, she works hard, is protective of her friends and family. It's an amazing thing to witness, to see that she has the same traits as my uncle and mother who passed, she has had no exposure to either of them. She is just living her life doing what she enjoys and tells us how it is.
This is probably my favorite episode so far. What a wonderful moment shared between two amazing people. I really felt MatPat’s unabashed joy going through the taco plate and nearly brought to tears by how much he loves Steph. Just wow. Great job team!
He seriously loves his wife so much. It brought me to tears. I could only hope one day to find someone who loves me this much. Steph I’m sure you but you are truly very blessed and lucky to find someone like this.Bless you matpat❤ miss you
Mat made himself cry in .5 seconds when playing out how death may keep him apart from Steph... I have never seen a more expressive and intense display of love ever...
Wow!! MatPat's Last meal's episode was definitely one of The Best!! It had me filled with a mix of emotions. I laughed, I cried, I laughed, & broke completely down, then I laughed. Aww. My heart. Wow!! Great interview Josh, & Mat. You both truly are two Amazing Humans!! 💜💜
I have to comment this!! The way he EXPLAINED the different types of birrias and the origins of the style of meals AMAZES me. He put so much time and effort into not only asking good interview questions and learning about the interviewee but also about the food. One of THE BEST interviewers
Mat is in the incredibly unique grey space of being both someone who doesnt shutup, but also someone ill always listen to, zero ego when he talks, top dude!
Going to be honest here, I’m old AF. I’ve heard of MatPat, but I didn’t know who he was…I absolutely loved this episode. Josh is such a talented interviewer. Thanks so much for serving me this content!

0:13 "You might recognize today's guest from Game Theory, or perhaps Film Theory, or perhaps Style Theory, or pehaps Food Theory, or perhaps from your local retirement home" I recognize him from GTLive, actually (which MatPat's still the host of, btw) 🏆
And that's just a meal! A last meal!
Thanks for eating.
I can’t watch any game theory thing without this man
This is the comment I live for
*The* last meal!
That’s just a theory…a DEATH THEORY
Absolutely obsessed with the fact that Mat Pats Last meal includes “Learning” as an ingredient 😂
It checks out 😂
I am genuinely shocked by how amazing this interview is. The depth of knowledge that is being shown and the care for both parties.
I guess I can't complain if not having the guests say their Last Meal in the intro helps the vid perform better, but I really did love hearing the guests "spell it all out" of some of their favorite foods for us. People like Ben Schwartz and Gabriel Iglesias had a lot of fun reading off _just how much they were going to be eating_ that day, and it opens up a beginning convo of all that they asked for (and then delves into the specifics as the dishes are presented to them.)
Regardless, i'm so happy to see MatPat on here! Even though I never watched a whole lot of his stuff, the few videos and collaborations I did see showed me his great charisma, intelligence, and humble nature. He seems like a loving, happy guy who cares about a lot of "how's" & "why's" in the world, but enjoys delving into the "what if's?"
Hope he enjoys the most out of his retirement and has ample time to relax with his family!
That choke up of MatPat being sad to never see Steph again. I feel that so deeply and really related to it. They are so sweet.
aw that part at the end where MatPat gets emotional about dying without Stephanie... it made me tear up as well. I appreciate him being so vulnerable, you can see just how much he really truly loves his wife and of course Ollie as well. absolutely precious
3:25 MatPat sharing his story of his fear of beans, and then knowing now that he calls his son “bean” 🥹
MatPat with the best relationship advice: If you want to impress a girl, eat the bean 😂😂😂
Well the hard part for most guys is finding it 😂
@@danieldonovan106 - how freaking difficult is, front... and center?
@@DismemberTheAlamoapparently very 🥲
And knowing MatPat he probably didn’t realize what he said until after 😂
[Be willing to step outside your comfort zone and try new things, even if you think it won’t be something you like.]
22:24 at this point you can see Matt’s facial expression drop, like he was experiencing all of the emotion all over again.
14:32 This is so interesting to hear after the announcement of rdj's return
Yeah I personally don’t like it. I don’t think it will make it as special. It worked back when marvel was a small ip for Chris Evans but I don’t think it will make it work the same now
Mat Pat's little speech about Steph at the end was so heart warming. You can tell just how much he loves and adores her, it's wonderful.
"I digress." RIP Ronnie Oni Edwards.
the way MatPat talks about Steph will ALWAYS make me sob 🥺😭😭
This is so inspiring. The true, genuine love Mat has for Steph. His insight on everything - especially life as a whole and always wanting to learn. Truly, this is one of my favorite videos on youtube. He really has become one of my favorite youtubers. I feel changed from this and that I need to thank MatPat for just being him.
Matpat is always such a profound human being. I just enjoy him talking about his passions.
Matt crying about Stephanie at the end...good lord it hurt. Such an amazing creator, even if you are retired Matt. You will continue to change the world
9:56 I love that MatPat knows his stuff so well
Now we need Josh as a guest on Food Theory!
man he'd be a perfect gues. brother knows so much about food
Santi and Josh would be a powerhouse duo if they ever collab for a food theory vid
He out-food theoried the OG Food Theorist in this vid lmao
That is a GREAT idea
The only thing that would make that better, would be the surprise return of Matpat for the episode
Find yourself a partner who loves you as much as MatPat loves Steph. Hearing him and seeing him tear up during the lightning round was so heartfelt, and I can only hope that I get to experience that one day.
Same. Steph really won the partner lottery (goes both ways) I genuinely hope they live a happy long life together 🥹
GOSH it’s always so refreshing to see a man so I love with his wife and willing to express it to anyone that will listen.
Them casually name dropping other famous youtubers makes me so nostalgic for that time and realize wow all of their sets are in close proximity
This is both completely unexpected and completely expected and paradox baffles me
as is the nature of a paradox😅
MatPat talking about losing Steph hit hard. That's exactly how I feel. The thing that scares me the most in this world is the thought of losing my husband and never seeing him again. Whether that's because he's gone or I am. I wasn't trying to cry into my coffee today Mat jeez!
Yeah, it's a terrifying thought. But the fact that you have someone who makes you feel like that means that you are lucky!
@@KokosNaSnehu2 I am very lucky to have him that’s for sure 💙
4:24 “but sometimes they find them in um the uh… like the flint river aswell”
The internet needs more MatPats. What a wonderful and genuine dude who has helped so many in so many different ways through his work.
AND he seems very smart.
The /world/ needs more MatPats.
32:00 mat’s outlook really makes every single little thing in this world beautiful and I am really happy to hear him talk in this way
i admire Matpat for being so real and genuine and for not fearing being vulnerable, really enjoyed this one :)
Now THAT is a wife guy.
Not like that other “wife guy” 🫢
I feel like he shows the difference between "my wife" and actually saying their name and caring about them beyond their relationship with you.
@@sweetwater156 nah the other "wife guy" wasn't even loyal to his wife lol mat actually loves the person he married
@@elizacarrie7433 that's true love right there,and it's wonderful
it's weird that this is my favorite last meal yet, it feels so much personable and full of life. don't get me wrong, the gordon ramsay one was incredible and i'm glad you were able to get him on and cook for him, but matpat was probably the best guest yet. and it's strange because i think i like matpat more when he's off gametheory, i used to watch the pre-fnaf vids like ness = sans or all the weird mario theories but i fell off of it as i grew older. but it's cool to see him now just a guy living his life with his wife and his kid. matthew if you're for some reason reading the comments of this, live your best life man, i wish nothing but love and prosperity for you. also it's not too late to go back into theater even if it's for fun, upload the entirety of beetlejuice on a personal channel or something lmao
he's like that on gtlive
Mat is so sweet when it comes to his friends, fans and family. I hope he really has the best time now doing the things he loves
I prefer the intro where the guest tells you what they are eating. It feels much more personal and I feel like that is a good touch.
I think the guest opening up with saying their last meal is an iconic piece of the show. I think it needs to come back
This is a collab that I didn't realize I needed, but I love it.
I love Matpat and this made me cry since it kind of IS his “Last Meal” on UA-cam. He has given me hours and hours of entertainment. Thank you MatPat!
Josh and MatPat in the same room, I couldn't dream for better scenario
They really have fantastic chemistry!
i need somebody to love me the way mat loves steph😭 their relationship is absolutely amazing
He’s so well spoken, especially about his relationship to his viewers! I loved this video it was so heartwarming
Josh and crew are awesome too thank you!
matpat will always be such a joy on the internet. I love how unapologetically himself he is. it's seriously inspiring for me personally. also his love for Steph is so beautiful.
Started for the love of MatPat, stayed for the emotional roller-coaster that ended up being a love letter to Steph
People we need to see eat their last meals: guy fierie, Emily flemming, Joshua weissman, Sean Evans,.
Having Sean Evans on here would be amazing.
Guga Foods...
Going to be honest here, I’m old AF. I’ve heard of MatPat, but I didn’t know who he was…I absolutely loved this episode. Josh is such a talented interviewer. Thanks so much for serving me this content!
MatPat is genuinely a good soul. Love his mindset.
I feel more confused without introducing the meal ahead of time. I promise I’m not watching just to see what the guest will eat, but to watch the interview. Please bring back the old format! Love the show
