Ayaan is one of the bravest people alive today and is a personal hero. Every time I hear her I am thrilled but deeply saddened that such a brave person is so viciously persecuted and under constant mortal threat. I hope she lives an extremely long and healthy life and never stops speaking out.
What is shocking to me is how hard it is for a man even as open and interested as Mr. Jordan - to even START to see the issue from a woman's perspective!! Ayaan Hirsi Ali.. thank you for speaking out for all women.
It is so soothing to hear someone to talk about serious topics without condemning and insulting... But just sharing the knowledge, experiences, facts and ideas about it. Thank you very much! I wish you both all the best! I really hope that our western society will stop hating itself and will find a way to be fair to itself and to others.
Listening to JP evokes the greatest sense of gratitude everytime. As a 22 yr old I feel so lucky to be able to have such a great individual, a role model, a aim, to strive for and with all that's happening to him understand that no one is superman no matter how they appear to be, and to never take them for granted. Can't say this enough, I'm so fucking happy to have you back Jordan thank you for all the sauce you've provided.
I'm also grateful you are so young to have this wisdom. Thank god. And yes, thank god Jordan gets to pursue meaningful dialogue again. I am grateful to know his words.
As an Arab woman who has also been outspoken about the hypocrisy in my community, I feel so encouraged that some of us are brave enough to bring this conversation forward. The only way out of this is through free speech. Thank you for sharing this with your audience.
As a dutch person I have the utmost respect for Ayaan. It's a shame she needs protection just for speaking her mind and most probably speaking a large dose of truth. Thanks for this interview Jordan. Being 39 years old its weird to speak about hero's but if there is anything like a hero, you fit the description pretty well.
@@talmadhoun I appreciate every comment but if you make statements like this in reply to me don't forget to elaborate. What has she been lying about? Who did she deceive and how?
She’s well known to have lied in the past to get what she wants and then come up with excuses to defend them. Besides that, I really would consider listening to what she she has to say but just because she comes from a predominantly Muslim country doesn’t mean she has any kind of scholarly knowledge about the religion and she really doesn’t have any background in Islamic knowledge. The only reason she is given a voice is because she’s a black Somali woman and thus she will get away with that white old men wouldn’t be allowed to say. You have to do yourself justice and make sure you get your information from someone who genuinely knows what they’re talking about and not someone who gives a few interviews in order to sell her books. And that’s honestly a sincere request. Always take the time to verify what you hear and are told. Then after that it’s up to you to believe what you want to believe. But just remember to be true to yourself. Sorry if this sounded a bit like a lecture :)) Peace.
@@hggh4867 No problem, i don't take it as an insult. And i 100% agree that information needs to be verified before you take them as truth. She did indeed lie about her origins and i can't think of any excuse for that. She has given some reasons but those are pretty weak. You might be right she doesn't have any scholarly knowledge about the religion. That could be true, i don't know. I do know she is pointing out a problem that I can see in daily life around me (I can only speak for the Netherlands of course as this is where I live). And that's not something we just observe but it's also something statistics point out. We can't deny there is a problem. I think this is where Jordan comes in as he asks very good questions about causation and correlation. And i think we can have a whole debate about that, and maybe that's a debate we -should- have. I won't dare to blame the Islamic religion for this, maybe its misinterpretation by groups of individuals, maybe its a result of a clash between islamic religion and western culture, there are so many variables which makes it very difficult to get to the bottom of the problem. But i do think it is time to get to the bottom of this problem, and i can't help but to respect Ayaan for putting this on the agenda as she is risking her life by doing so as this issue has been swept under the carpet for way too long.
My parents were both soldiers, both were deployed to Bosnia, Somalia, and Afghanistan. The things they've seen have left them mentally scarred, to the point I have had to take emergency triage training for PTSD attacks. One of the worst was my dad having to watch a woman be stoned to death in Kabul by her family because she made the mistake of accepting a ride from Canadian soldiers who offered to help carry her groceries home. He also had to deal with people throwing their young girls in from of the tanks as they drove by. They were hoping the girls would be run over because when a child was hit by a tank the year before the Canadian Army gave the family a cow. They were hoping they could get a cow too. My mother had to shower in water that tested positive for human DNA. It was from the bodies of hundreds of Muslim people who were taken up to the lake nearby, shot, and then their bodies were fed into the lake through a woodchipper by the Serbian army to hide their war crimes. And there is a perfectly logical explanation for that: WWI and WWII (WWII being a consequence of WWI). After all the blood, death and destruction of the 2 wars, westerners don't believe in their culture anymore. They don't believe it can bring anything good. They lost faith. They stand and scratch their heads as to why foreigners don't integrate into their culture. But the truth is, they don't want to integrate in their own culture themselves...
@Med AYT18 I watched Mohammed's response and I found a lot insults, not many arguments. I do not pretend to know Islam, but however, I do know Europe, America and the West, very very well. Mohammed is promoting and defending Islam. I respect that. He should defend his people and he is right to do so. The point is, the west has lost the will of standing-up for itself. A westerner is incapable of defending his people in the way that Mohammed did. If you cannot defend the legacy of your ancestors, you are not a worthy individual in my opinion. That is my point. And you know what? I think that Mohammed Hijab would totally agree with that.
@Med AYT18 I think that objectivity is very hard to achieve for humans. That's why we turn to God or Allah. The egocentricity of the West, the arrogance, their fake liberalism and feminism makes me want to puke. But... not all is bad. The West, like many other cultures, has also brought us some good things. I'll just give you 2: Social security snd healthcare. We take care of the sick and the old. True in a very unpersonal and systematic way, but we try not to leave anyone behind. A second one is that we try to not be at each others neck. Not in a physical sense. Even if we get into heated debates, we don't go to war. Maybe that's the good that came out of the 2 wars: we know that working together, even if we disagree, is better than fighting. Now, some 10-15 years later, we're seeing the fruits of not acting accordingly back then manifest in western society...and it's not good. @@omarromo5293 lmao when did I say being "critical" of Islam or "rejecting" sharia is Islamophobia ..... it's mostly ignorance because both Peterson and his western audience are not religious experts and fall to "criticizing" Islam based on orientalist troupes (the Prophet pbuh being a warmonger is not some new conception, it's been spread among christian europe for centuries, it's just used now to justify military imperialism on the basis of islam being a supposedly violent religion). and I don't see what any of that even has to do with what I originally stated, his audience is still Islamophobic and Peterson panders to them which is why he's had a joke of person like Ayaan on his show, someone who knows nothing about religion largely or Islam. and the false dichotomy is very nonsensical, criticizing a religion is not the same thing as criticizing a country's actions, especially one illegally occupying and committing genocide against another population while receiving billions of military funding by so called freedom loving and human rights defending countries. Lastly, given that Muslim are fundamentally oppressed all over the world whether it's through state oppression in france, china, india or palestine, western imperialism in iraq, syria or yemen, it comes off as extremely bizarre to me that the same people that reside in these countries that perpetuate, defend or whose tax dollars even fund these actions are jumping at the chance to "criticize islam". criticizing islam in the West is not some zero sum game and is mostly used to advance western interests, sorry to break it to you LOL but I mean you're subscribed to a white supremacist network like Breitbart so you're clearly not very critical of your sources or understandings.
This is, unfortunately, the problem. Hirsi speaks about free speech as if it is an absolute right. Which I think I don't think is a good idea. For example, if free speech is as important and shouldn't be restricted and curtailed, then what about verbal or written sexual harrassment, in the form of words? 'Cat-calling' as Hirsi describes is a form, or can be a form, of harrassment. So if free speech is an absolute right, then why should cat-calling not fall into the same category? If your answer is that it should, you are condoning sexual harrassment in the name of free speech. If you say, that it comes with the expectation of further harm, then you have to consider that this is not always true. Many a time, women and men do not believe that the cat-calling will lead to anything. It's just done to have fun and make women feel uncomfortable. Is this free speech? If you are answer yes, then you are using free speech to justify harrassment. If the answer is no then you acknowledge that free speech that makes others feel uncomfortable or victimized can be unacceptable. You could argue that speech that causes harm, directly or indirectly should not be included under the label free speech, but then you have admitted that free speech has its limits. So why should Ayaan Hirsi have the right to come on a platform, to use conjecture, to accuse the poor, dispossessed or even derelict, of rape or sexual misconduct, thereby possibly influencing whether or not they actually receive help, while they are in desperate need, but a man cannot cat-call? Why is it only free speech when she speaks about things important to her, possibly doing a lot of harm globally, using what is essentially conjecture, but it is not acceptable when religious figures speak negatively about modernity? Bear in mind, that everything she says is based on conjecture or subjective experience. So if free speech is such an important right, that justifies giving a woman who avoids using data and statistics, as a point, a platform then Jordan Peterson shouldn't have a problem with challenging her directly or having a moderate, liberal muslim voice on his pod cast?
Then why not say 'this is real feminism?' Feminism has been so appropriated by men to suggest that it means anything they want it to mean ('porn is good for women, hookup culture is good for women, men can become women and lesbians have to sleep with us') that we disagree with third wave feminism for all these reasons so why not take it back and say that it means whatever you're referring to exactly.

There are some issues that need to be addressed FIRMLY due to the lack of a serious justice system in countries where muslim are a majority (most of these countries are third world countries). The problem is that due to our own lack in justice, academic excellency, generalized literacy and rely less on a "new church" (eventhough islam insists on personal reflection) where we're given "ready to use" fatwas, it's difficult to answer without looking "defensive" : we need to tell the whole history of how islam evolved and how it was practiced (and NOT practiced), that lead to such issues.

She has spoken the truth for years. I grew up in a so called moderate/liberal muslim family and it was still so backward regarding women’s rights. The hypocrisy of so called liberal Muslims who enjoy all the freedoms of living in the West yet won’t clearly defend women’s rights against this clear threat is sickening. It’s so true - the non extreme versions of assault are still very negative - the leering stares and blaming girls and women for them for not “covering up” are common in Muslim areas in the UK. The Muslim girls experience it and the English girls walk around oblivious as often as the Muslim/brown girls get it worse and know to preemptively cover up in these areas.
It's sickening to you that Muslims have values and standards of modesty that you happen not to like? Why don't we all go nude then? Or is it that you've taken the West as your god and think Western values to be uncannily "just right"? Maybe, just maybe, you're a brainwashed hater like many others.

That old adage: "knowledge is power". This is true, in some sense, but perhaps not in a materialistic sense. Instead, one could say that knowledge leads to the power of truth. Not only that, but perhaps the truth of oneself. Truth can have a profound value and meaning, and what better value is there than aiming towards discovering one's value of existence in the world? Is that not, after all, the one truth and value that all people wish to discover no matter their race, religion, etc? She’s well known to have lied in the past to get what she wants and then come up with excuses to defend them. The only reason she is given a voice is because she’s a black Somali woman and thus she will get away with that white old men wouldn’t be allowed to say. @@thatguy1822 the West hates the west. According to westerners, everything the west does is racist, it's history is racist, colonial and hellbent on exploiting others. Nothing is worth keeping, not its statues, not its heroes... Nothing. Westerners only find one thing worth saving and fighting for: everything but their culture.
After all, if we were truly objective, we wouldn't need an all powerful being to show us the truth. We are all biased. I understand yours and Mohammed's points. I guess what I'm trying to say is: we should not through out the baby with the bath water.
@Med AYT18 yeah well maybe... I will not get into that debate because there really isn't a solution that doesn't diminish someone.
@@Rausque that's very true, and this constant atonement and self-despise is bringing western culture to its knees and could be its end. We're the only culture doing this right now.

She has spoken the truth for years. I grew up in a so called moderate/liberal muslim family and it was still so backward regarding women’s rights. The hypocrisy of so called liberal Muslims who enjoy all the freedoms of living in the West yet won’t clearly defend women’s rights against this clear threat is sickening. It’s so true - the non extreme versions of assault are still very negative - the leering stares and blaming girls and women for them for not “covering up” are common in Muslim areas in the UK. The Muslim girls experience it and the English girls walk around oblivious as often as the Muslim/brown girls get it worse and know to
preemptively cover up in these areas.
It's sickening to you that Muslims have values and standards of modesty that you happen not to like? Why don't we all go nude then? Or is it that you've taken the West as your god and think Western values to be uncannily "just right"? Maybe, just maybe, you're a brainwashed hater like many others.

The Dutch not feeling they have any cultural significance when they keep the ocean at bay is, to me, incredibly moving.
I agree. Some of the most talented artists like Vermeer, Rembrandt, VanGogh, and Bosch have called The Netherlands home. The Netherlands has a long history of religious tolerance and independence and has had a strong middle class for probably longer than any other country. Your point is quite right. It is sad to think they don't value at very least their engineering developments, which are not even on the top of their list of gifts to mankind.
Being Dutch, all I can say is that our Calvinistic culture is not about showing off, ego, sticking out, or boasting. The national saying is "act normal, because then you're already acting crazy enough". You're expected to do your best and it is nothing special if you do. And if you're lucky to be gifted with a special talent then good for you, but that's nothing to celebrate. The ability and importance of having these conversations about such difficult, complex and sensitive topics is utterly paramount to the continued positive progress of humanity, and it is why I absolutely believe in the necessity of freedom of speech without persecution. The outcome of such conducted conversations, in my estimation, can only ever yield to exploring, challenging and furthering our knowledge and understanding by investigating topics from different perspectives. They do more good than harm when framed and approached in an inquisitive and exploratory manner - just as this conversation was.
I've always preferred, quite drastically, speaking and listening to reading. Yet, the further down the intellectual journey I go, via watching interviews and discussions from several UA-cam channels, the more I start to feel that delving into some books could help flesh out some things.
I realise there's a lot to unpack and left unsaid there, but I will leave it there nonetheless. This is a UA-cam comment after all. :)
