    The Stealth definitely sounds better to my ears. Tighter and more articulate. Great video man, really enjoyed it

    I’d like the OG because it’s a little warmer and a little more saturated sounding not so clean and tight but they’re both awesome

    • @joshbarnes6759
      @joshbarnes6759 3 роки тому +2

      Really? I’m hearing the opposite. I’m getting more saturation and warmth from the Stealth. I have both these same amps at home. Same versions and all.

      Agree, the regular EVH 5150 50w has a nice growl in the blue channel.

      Stealth red channel has more saturation than any amp on the planet LOL

  • @sqlb3rn

    I have the 100w Stealth, you captured the tone really well... your 50w basically sounds identical to it. The difference is small (my wife couldn't hear any difference) but I prefer the higher gain and compressed tone from the Stealth, the white one sounds slightly less gain, more dynamics, a little more raw, a little more mids. I've been playing the Stealth on red channel no boost for death metal rhythm tone, blue channel is cool, but I find red channel better for my tastes. Also running it in stereo with a 90w Mesa Mark V (with OD808), which I know you didn't like, but mine sounds so crushing articulate and defined once I dialed in the preamp.

    Everything at 1 o'clock is pretty underrated and works so well for modern metal. Everyone wants to 'scoop the mids' but everything at level 6 is perfect in my book (I call it the 6-6-6 EQ pattern). Great for getting plenty of everything in this mix🤘

    • @vincescotti2254
      @vincescotti2254 11 місяців тому +1

      Lol know this comment is 2 yrs old but I do the same thing and then i flick the mid knob gently a couple times to make the mids sightly slightly more present

  • @sb632

    Something special about the stealth blue channel with the boost engaged. Can't describe it. Just a pleasant high gain tone to my ear. Also love the demo tune in Drop D. Would love to listen to a full length version of that.

    First things first: this is the exact comparison video I would have loved to watch BEFORE buying my 5150III, not two years after 😅. Great, great work.
    Because I, like you, used to love the 6L6, but man, the blue channel on the stealth is simply ridiculous!!

  • @DrProgNerd
    @DrProgNerd 3 роки тому +7

    The Stealth was noticeably better on the drive channels. Not massively better - but better nonetheless. I felt that the O.G. on clean was a bit better - chimey and better note separation. I'm sure that could be remedied with some small tweaks of the eq on the Stealth though. I just ordered my Stealth a couple of days ago - so I'm just whetting my appetite with videos until it gets here. Great job.

  • @thehoppo

    Thought the differences were more noticeable in the A tuning than in the D

  • @jacee8094
    @jacee8094 3 роки тому +43

    But in all honesty, idk if the difference is big enough for the extra price of the stealth. Literally boost the mids a little more and they’re practically identical

      Now the Stealth is 50€ cheaper than standard 6L6 in Europe O.o

    • @officialmetalwill
      @officialmetalwill 2 роки тому +1

      You're either deaf or listening through shitty speakers. Yes, the two amps sound similar, but there are drastic differences. They are very easy to tell apart from each other.

    • @jacee8094
      @jacee8094 2 роки тому +6

      @@officialmetalwill I’m not saying there isn’t a difference. I’m saying who cares about a difference that small when the price difference is so drastic? If you want to change your tone for a lot cheaper and much more effectively, use different mics or speakers. If you can afford to throw all that extra money for maybe a slight difference in the mids, have at it. But if you think that you have to get the stealth to sound good, the point is don’t waste your money.

    • @realtruenorth
      @realtruenorth День тому

      Why do you think that's the point of the video? I think the point was for people like me that were deciding which to buy. I ended up going with the Stealth and I'm super happy with it. That was my first 5150 type amp. Before that I had just a Mesa tremoverb.

    I think the red channels sounded almost exactly the same. I have a 5153 6l6 and love it but I would take a stealth too. That sounded just a little better I think in the blue channel but when the blue channel is boosted on the regular one it sounds almost exactly like the stealth imo. I've also noticed they've raised the price on these amps a few hundred dollars since I've gotten mine.

Guys in Europe would go nuts to get the Stealth at this price point so I think instead of the Engl Savage...I'll be blessed to be an American and get the Stealth. Long live EVH! You got screwed by not having the extra volume contol knobs on your white 5150! They add a lot more control of tone.And I just bought an MXR phaser pedal,a Nux Metal Core distortion and a flanger and now I get Ed's sound on the red channel!I haven't even had the chance to add the delay ,equalizer and chorus and reverb pedals to refine it even more! I plan to make a wood striped pedal board to put them all on.

I have a white 50w, & I love it, but Ive also tubed it differently. This is an amp that tubes make a marked difference in. Try plain ol Tung-Sol 12ax7's if you get a chance, with a Mullard long plate 12ax7 in V1! Then Sovtek 6L6 WXT+ power tubes (all tubes are new manufacture)

Though I miss the more bedroom friendly 50 watt, I can’t argue with the headroom that the 100 watt offers. Plus the reshaped blue channel is ridiculous! No OD needed. And the iiis blue channel needs a boost but in comparison to the ivory its too thin sounding. I dont like the iiis unless you’ve got a 7 or 8 string to make the thicker strings sound clearer. Had the white. Loved it, apart from the shared volume and gain.
    Upgraded to the concentric pots version and two days later the Stealth was announced, so I sent it back.
    Have had the stealth for a while now and love it.
    Green is lovely and clean pedal platform.
    Blue is my "metal" sound, with a boost in the loop for volume increase.
    Red is lead channel.
    That said, I can't say I experienced an enormous difference between the concentric pot white one and the Stealth as I never had them in the same room.
    I wouldn't upgrade from one to the other given the choice again but from scratch I'd go with the Stealth for that extra clarity in the blue channel. (external bias will also be useful in the future no doubt)

    Awesome riffs Metal Ray! They are so close it probably depends on the style of music and taste? I've found the 6L6 was a little more appropriate for classic VH stuff, and the Stealth was more appropriate for Metal and Heavy Rock (which I love and play all of that). But overall, either head works well for so many applications it's a no brainier for any guitarist looking for a versatile amp. Both heads rule...the EVH line rules.

    I thought these amps were identical except for the colour? What's the difference in specs? Because they're tube amps (where the tubes will obviously vary slightly) would you not get a slight difference in sound between identical amps anyway?

    Close, but the Stealth sounds a little bit fuller (darker?) to me, which I prefer.

    Like you, I have the older 50 watt head with the shared volume and gain for channels one and two. I am a huge fan of this amp. I haven’t experienced the muddiness you were talking about. When I use this amp, it has only been at drop D at the lowest. Do you think the tuning may have played in to it?... Either way, I love both of these amps, thanks for the review!!

      I've had both versions of the white one without the fender logo. I never experienced any mud. Ray can you tell us what preamp tubes are in there?

      @@patcolucci Good question... Perhaps this plays a bigger role in what he heard than my comment about tuning.

      @@rodreyes8436 definitely possible or it may just sound muddy to him which is fine. Everybody hears things differently. 🤘🏼

      @@patcolucci Completely agree! Another thing to note is that resonance control. I have a cab that is a little on the bass heavy side and one the is one treble heavy side. The use of the resonance control almost solely makes it so that this head can be used on both of my cabs.
