Nephew, I lived and survived the 90s. I was like you back then. I had a old soul and listened to ALL Hip Hop from ALL regions. These dudes were the youngest members in the Gang Starr crew. You don’t hear about them because they were unpolished and raw. Extremely underground, which in the 90s meant you had to know somebody that knew somebody that put you on to the music. Today you’d say: “IYKYK”. There was no social media so we had to do our homework. They were featured on the Gang Starr albums and the market for rap music was not as flooded at that time. So whoever released music back then, we as a Hip Hop Community, supported it. At that time, DJ Premier was ascending and becoming extremely intricate with his production techniques. With each project he worked on, his skill and style was elevating. Getting better and better. By the time Group Home’s album was released, his production was at an all time high. When you saw his name on a song, you knew it was going to be quality music! People from my era consider this album a COMPLETE CLASSIC. Every song is its own vibe. Even the interludes. If you need another song from the album to listen and vibe to, check out the last cut on the album called “The Realness “. They go back and forth with another rap group featured on the track called “The Brain Sick Mob”. On the hook, DJ Premier is cutting up Mobb Deep saying: “ The Realness” and “Comes Equipped”. If you dig deeper, you just may find a song or two from Brain Sick Mobb as well…. But you gotta do your HOMEWORK. If you got questions about any old school, reach out, I’ll be around.✌🏾 PEACE.✌🏾
The second guy rapper's voice is so unique I still ain't heard no one sound like him. This video is refreshing I see a lot of groups that group home influenced, they deserve their acknowledgement FRFR.
Found a cd in a house i was renovating throwing everything out, i had the dvd cd player in the car, i cleaned the cd real good an went to put that bitch in an the sound been stuck in my head every since dope shit
This song, when it first came out I played the vinyl over and over and over again. Honestly, this song still hurts my soul soo much! In a good way!Now 47 year old woman from London. The whole album is a vibe! Peace!
Premier did the whole album as a favor cuz if i remember correctly the judge wanted to lock up one of the members for a while and then premier made a deal with the judge that he'll keep em out of trouble by having them be in the studio and be rappers. So the judge told Preemo it's all him and to have them make an album and as long as they we're working on music, that he'd drop the case. Crazy story but that's how the album came about, preemo looking out for his people. Literally blessed them with his best beats of his career. Only reason anyone never really mentions them is cuz they weren't really "rappers". Premo a real one.
Group Home - Livin' Proof is their best song. They were that classic underground nyc hip hop group we were listening to in the 90s. They didn't get too much airplay but the streets loved them
I just subscribed recently and I’m surprised nobody requested Group Home to you. Although they were highly underrated. When it came out I played it for anyone I could find.
GROUP HOME- "LIVIN PROOF", THE WHOLE ALBUM IS A CERTIFIED "CLASSIC" FO SHO! WITH PRIMO (PREMIERE) ON THE PRODUCTION, CONSIDERED SOME OF HIS BEST WORK, YOU GOT TO CHECK OUT THE ENTIRE BODY OF WORK FROM FRONT TO BACK!✊🏾
