Oh Dios!!

Me encanto!

I was born in Puerto Rico. Left it. In 1980. Last time I visited was 2006. I thank you for picking up the garbage. I do the same when I visit parks, beaches, and forests in the USA. I also married a Caucasian man. We've been married 37 years. One child only. We are planning a trip to Puerto Rico in a year. I just found your channel and I'm subscribing to see the places we will visit. . Thanks for sharing
My beautiful Island, my father was from Cabo Rojo, thank you for being pro ecology, and cleaning up what you find, it is so sad that people don't appreciate the privilege it is to live in such a beautiful place. God Bless You.
Love the video! Thanks for helping spread the word about the special and beautiful parts of Puerto Rico. BTW That beach isn't call "Playa Sucia"; the real name is "Playuela" or "Media Luna". The actual "Playa Sucia" is on the other side of that bay and is call like that because all the thrash of the boats and cruise ships, that pass close by, ends there.
Been there a few times. It's the dryer part of the island. Guanica has a dry forest reserve area well worth visiting. Going there in Sept will be staying a few nights in Combate for the first time. Thanks for the video!
Jim and May, you’re the best. I wish there were more people like you, helping by cleaning up after others is almost unheard of. Being Puerto Rican, I feel embarrassed to see that there’s people that just don’t care about keeping Puerto Rico beautiful. It’s not that hard. I thank you and appreciate you so much.🙏🏽❤️
I'm so glad I found your channel, it's my dream to go to PR, I even have a couple of friends over there, in San Juan and Dorado, even tho I'm from Europe, another side of the Earth, and I think I'll visit PR in max 2 or 3 years.
mmm i took Geology a while back, never completed studied (yea yea) but still got a few classes. One professor told us its called playa Sucia because the currents from the north and south merge there and all the sediments accumulate in that corner of PR.
@@xNemesiSxPRthe name is Playuela, your professor was wrong. I worked at the lighthouse next to. The reason why the Bay next to Playuela is called Bahía Sucia, could be what he told u. 👍🏻
The beach is actually Playuella, Playa Sucia is the shoreline at the pink lakes. The ocean current there brings all of the sea trash there and dumps it. Plastic bottles, bags, tires, lots of trash end up on the shoreline at Playa Sucia beside the pink lakes. I have a home there. In one of the 3 story yellow condo buildings across the street from the pink lakes. Great video. Thank you for posting
Thanks for sharing, Greg! We appreciate your support. Cool! We probably saw your place as we drove by then. We have much more to come soon. ¡Un saludo! -Jim
@@SpanishandGo I've posted several videos from the area, we have our home on Airbnb when we arent there. Look for Las palmas villa at playa del caribe On You Tube
You should also visit "El Yunque" in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. It's a natural rainforest but careful, it's too dangerous if you go during rain periods because the rivers can overflown and many tourist have died in the past because they underestimates the El Yunke's rivers...
Wow this is beautiful! May and Jim, you are a great couple and I love how you share the culture and language of the areas you are in. I also like how you respect the environment and animals and have a meatless diet. 🇲🇽🇵🇷🌊🐟🦀
From what I read, Cabo Rojo was named for that reason. Among the nicknames are "La Cuna de Cofresi" and "Los Mata Con Hacha." This video makes me want to visit my father in Cabo Rojo.
Thank you for showing all the beautiful places of my Homeland Puerto Rico also known as La Isla del Encanto! I am from Río Grande, but currently reside in Dallas Texas! Love seen my Island in your videos. May thank you for cleaning up after the lazy people that couldn't take their trash to the trashcan. Muchas gracias por sus videos!!!!
You guys are awesome , the story take us to March 18 of 1973 went a Greek tanker Zoe Colocotronis spilled 37,000 of venezuelan crude barrels of oil in to the costal waters of southern PR , about 24,000 barrels of oil washed ashore at Cabo Rojo contaminating the beaches and the rocky shore, that is where the name of playa sucia is coming from, 48 years later this is a great and clean destination to enjoy beautiful waters and great wildlife. I love your videos ...
We love that whole place! The foam thing happens in pretty much every beach in the world. I don't know what it is, but I've seen it too. ¡Un abrazo, Candy!
I went there four years ago while taking an Ecology course. We walked for three hours and didn't even notice. We were lucky enough to see a couple flamingos, it was very cool. My sister and I have planned to see all of the lighthouses. We already went to the lighthouse ruins in Guanica, now we're going to hopefully travel along the west coast to see all of them. Thank you for keeping our places clean. We've been trying to get people to be more conscious (we have university student associations, mostly science, that have made educational signs about keeping Puerto Rico clean), but some people are stubborn. We share your frustration with non tidy and irresponsible people. I have no idea why it's called Playa Sucia, but the sargazo has been a growing problem all over the coasts. The scientific community is still trying to figure out what's going on. We call hermit crabs "cobitos". Speaking of Salinas, have you heard of the reserve Bahia de Jobos that is in the municipality called Salinas? If you're lucky, you can see manatíes feeding on the coast :)
Isn't it an incredible area?! That's so cool that you got to see flamingos there! We saw them once too, but they weren't there when we filmed this. We haven't heard of Bahia de Jobos, but it'd be incredible to see manatees feeding there! Thanks for your support. We have much more to come soon. Un saludo. -Jim
So glad you enjoyed Cabo Rojo. The Drone shots definitely made those flats look extra pink and beautiful. Excellent! I think our beaches are pretty clean for the most part. The wind blows a lot away. And the strays get into many things. I see locals (us as well) always travel witulh bags picking up garbage. Even before it became a challenge. Also we are accustomed to bringing food and water for the strays :( it has become a habit sadly.
Thanks, Vida! We loved our time in Cabo Rojo and miss it already. We’ll be back though. Yes, it is quite windy up there, so I can see how trash could get blown around. We always have extra dog food in our trunk too to help strays as we see them. Good for you for making PR a better place! Un saludo. -Jim
Of course...it is also hit bad during the holidays. But still grateful that people like you and others clean up. Again, I am really excited for those drone shots. People can really see how impressive the flats are. Gracias.
Ohh that’s my favorite place in Cabo Rojo! Beautiful! Answering your questions, Indeed, the beach it’s called “playa sucia” , because of the “Salgazo”. A few years ago the name of the beach was changed to “Playuela” . The salgazo is temporarily, the beach is absolutely amazing when there is no salgazo. Another thing, you can visit the faro, go inside, they have pictures and the history of the place and you can climb to the top of it which is really beautiful, the view and the wind is so amazing and ITS FREE, you don’t have to pay for it. Finally thanks for the cleaning and picking up the trash. I did the same every time I visit the beaches. As responsible PuertoRican I fell ashamed, that some people don’t take care about our precious resources 😢. Hope we can make a difference! Thanks for pointing it out!
After Boquerón, we went there for the sundown, and it was amazingly beautiful, the sun coming down, the sound of the waves hitting the cliffs, the nice breeze, and the light of the lighthouse going around (yes it does work), got great pics.
LOVE THE VID & DAMN ITS SOOO BEAUTIFUL THERE & WILL DEFINITELY BE THE VERY 1ST PLACE I VISIT WHEN I FINALLY MAKE MY TRIP THERE.. FUN FACT:MY 4TH GREAT GRANDFATHER FOUNDED THE CITY OF CABO ROJO & ALSO MY PIRATE ANCESTOR ROBERTO COFRESI SUPPOSEDLY HAS LEGIT BURIED TREASURE THERE & ALSO SOMEWHERE IN THE DOMINICAN REP BUT THE BIG STASH HAS NEVER BEEN FOUND SO FAR...
Jim, May. Awesome work. Outstanding. As a Caborrojeño (native of Cabo Rojo) I welcome you both to our beloved town. Enjoy your stay in La Guarida del Pirata Cofresí(Pirate Cofresí's Cove), however short or long it may be... A couple of things: The official & real name of the beach is Playuela. The thing is(to the best of my knowledge) that since the Bay is called Bahia Sucia everyone has erroneously called it Playa Sucia... Cabo Rojo gets his name from, again, to the best of my knowledge, those Redstone Cliffs by the Faro(Lighthouse) Los Morrillos. "Red sun" & "red sky"🌞Sunsets, Las Salinas/Pink Flats(you can argue red-ish) also helps the argument for the town to get its name, Cabo Rojo (Red Cape or Cape Red). And, thank you endlessly for thinking of helping 🇵🇷's economy in your decision to move & in helping clean up Cabo Rojo. I admire you both for that. I wish there were more Caborrojeños & Puerto Ricans that were as respectful of our Island's natural resources & were as humble as you too, to be conscious not to trash our beautiful land. P.S. Just came back from my annual 2-week vacation at my parents' home in Cabo Rojo. Maybe next time I visit, I can get to meet you both. I would be a pleasure. Till next time. Stay safe!
Beautiful. Oh broke my heart seeing the kitty how would it be fed there ? Seems like a secluded area for this baby to be and find food. The one thing I dislike so much about P.R., so many abandoned fur babies.😢💔🐈Praying someone picks this baby up and give a it a loving home.❤🐈
I know! It’s so sad. She looked like maybe she just had kittens too. Fortunately, there are many crabs in the area, so hopefully she is able to hunt a bit there. I wish we could save them all! -Jim
The rangers at the site feed many cats that will very likely found very near the trash cans at the end of the dirt road, just next to the entrance to Playa Sucia. Oh and by the way, agree with the excessive seaweed accumulation on that beach, however, the complete reason is because it is the most southwest point in the island, where many currents converge. This leads to many flowing things, not just seaweed to find its way into the small bay. In fact, the long stretch of beach on the east of Playa Sucia is called Bahia Sucia (Dirty Bay), for the same reason. Other names include Playuela, which is what most locals are calling it nowadays. Also, I’ve missed you several times on the local hiking Group (FB closed channel hikes) several times. Hopefully we will meet soon. Thank you for treating Puerto Rico with such respect. Nos vemos pronto!!
Great video! I've taken a few of my friends precisely to those places when they come to visit from the US. Although PR has an incredible amount of places to see and things to do, I always take my visitors to Cabo Rojo, Old San Juan, and El Yunque. If time permits, we'll go other places (Arecibo Observatory, Culebra, Bioluminescent Bay, etc.).
Thanks, Juan! All of those places are beautiful. We really enjoyed our time in Vieques. We made a video at the biobay too. ua-cam.com/video/6bp-nzOaK7Q/v-deo.html ¡Un saludo! -Jim
Hi Jim and May! I love your videos, they have definitely given me inspiration for my trip to PR. I am visiting Puerto Rico in 2 weeks and was hoping to rent a car and visit Cabo Rojo however I know that there was an earthquake in PR yesterday. I hope you are both okay from the earthquake and wanted to know whether you'd still recommend visiting (I've never driven in another country before and don't know how the roads will be) ? Thanks!
Cute hermit crabs! I love them too,. If you put an empty shell in their way and stay really still, you'll see them inspect it and if you're lucky, they'll change shells!
We totally saw that same cat when we went there the other day! I even gave it some pets as well! That cat is famous! Lol I put pics of it in my Fb too! Lol
Actually, small sharks do venture into Playa Sucia. It's not advised to go far into deep water. You'll know there are sharks or other predators, like the Barracuda (Picúa en Puerto Rico), when you see small fish jumping. You won't see many people venturing into deep waters because of it. Last time I saw fish jumping, the beach was full of people and everyone was excited to witness such a nice spectacle. A while later, someone from the Recursos Naturales showed up on a jet ski. I was later told that he came around to make sure there was no one in deep water and to make sure the shark wasn't close to the beach. The iguana has, sadly, become a pest in Puerto Rico. It's replacing the local iguana and even eating the Coquí away.
Hi, I’ve been watching your videos and LOVE Them. My Fiancé is currently living in Ponce and Im in New York. We are doing LDR right now but I’m planning on settling there. I’ve been to PR like 20x already. My only concern is, I’m Filipino and only know some words in Spanish. I don’t know if I’ll be able to find a job while learning Spanish:(
It's true they don't play when it comes to giving out tickets when you park where you're not suppose to but I'm glad I got to enjoy my day in Playa Sucia & see the lighthouse 🤍

After Boquerón, we went there for the sundown, and it was amazingly beautiful, the sun coming down, the sound of the waves hitting the cliffs, the nice breeze, and the light of the lighthouse going around (yes it does work), got great pics.
Dang dude...you are in Shape!!!! Keep up the vids...Que bueno!!
Another good video! Tks guys.
I love my town!
We do too!
Stay safe!
Love your videos guys keep it up 😉👍
Was just there a few week back. Love the place and your island.
-Jim
Please take her home or bring her some food! She is hungry, and thirsty, she was asking you for help! 😢
Watching your videos makes feel closer to my island...
That’s awesome! Thanks for watching. We appreciate that. Where should we go for a future video? Un saludo. -Jim
@@SpanishandGo you guys should go to Flamenco Beach in Culebra PR or las aguas termales de Coamo, look it up on Google.

@@SpanishandGo thanks YOU'RE welcome you guys are Kool as You guys💥🙏✌❤☝
Great video! I've taken a few of my friends precisely to those places when they come to visit from the US. Although PR has an incredible amount of places to see and things to do, I always take my visitors to Cabo Rojo, Old San Juan, and El Yunque. If time permits, we'll go other places (Arecibo Observatory, Culebra, Bioluminescent Bay, etc.).
Thanks, Juan! All of those places are beautiful. We really enjoyed our time in Vieques. We made a video at the biobay too. ua-cam.com/video/6bp-nzOaK7Q/v-deo.html

My play grounds as a kid!
Thanks!
Thank u for helping keeping the island clean! I’m so sick of seeing lazy people polluting our earth!
Brutal
Thank you
Cute hermit crabs! I love them too,. If you put an empty shell in their way and stay really still, you'll see them inspect it and if you're lucky, they'll change shells!
Such cool creatures, aren’t they!? Thanks for watching! We’ve got much more to come soon. -Jim
Beautiful
Thanks for watching! Have you been to Puerto Rico before? Un saludo. -Jim
We totally saw that same cat when we went there the other day! I even gave it some pets as well! That cat is famous! Lol I put pics of it in my Fb too! Lol
That’s awesome! Hopefully she’s doing well then. Who knows if the grounds keepers there take care of her. Thanks for watching! -Jim
You need to wait for the sunset to know why is called like that. Whats of the amazing thing of my town.
Im from Puerto Rico saludos
the name is related to the redish pink color of the salt mines, so Ive heard! I grew up in Boqueron, one street away from "El Pirata"
Awesome! We used to lived right by El Pirata. Thanks for watching! Un saludo. -Jim
Hi,
I’ve been watching your videos and LOVE Them. My Fiancé is currently living in Ponce and Im in New York. We are doing LDR right now but I’m planning on settling there. I’ve been to PR like 20x already. My only concern is, I’m Filipino and only know some words in Spanish. I don’t know if I’ll be able to find a job while learning Spanish:(
You need to go to Monte del Estado (Sabana Grande) is beutiful .
It's true they don't play when it comes to giving out tickets when you park where you're not suppose to but I'm glad I got to enjoy my day in Playa Sucia & see the lighthouse 🤍
Nice. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! -Jim
