Also, I travel a lot because work, conferences, teaching. How would these machines stack up. Other than that, I think you are in the top 5 % of all the reviewers on YT, mainly because it feels honest...
Appreciate the feedback. I’m a software dev and it handles my current work no problem, mainly because most of the stuff I deal with is in the cloud. The most intensive stuff is running a full app of micro services on docker (up to 8 services, elastic search, databases, front-end, etc.) but doesn’t match what some data scientist do. Would love to get a real world test for various industries.
My friend, get the M1 Pro 14” refurb for around 1500 or lower, this is the “I need to spend my student dollar wisely but want this thing to last” choice here The 14” MBP dumps all over both generation Air and 13” MBP.

I just picked up a 14 inch M1 for $1500 refurbished from apple, which in my opinion is the best deal available. I definitely probably would have been fine with an air 95% of the time as I am by no means a professional but after upgrading the SSD to 512 and the memory to 16, the price difference was negligible so I figured I might as well get the 14 inch m1 and enjoy the ports, screen, and power lol.
Did you consider getting the 2023 version? You get Wi-Fi 6E. Also, just newer components, and who knows what little things they may have figured out manufacturing wise that make it better, and it’s not that much more expensive. If it’s something you’re gonna have for seven years.
Great video! I appreciate you stating that the m1 pro is such a value. I feel other reviewers are stating that the m2 pro is so superior when 99 percent of people would love the m1 pro and save quite a bit of money in the process.
There are some cases in which M1 pro 10 cores will be better than M2 pro 10 cores. The reason for that is that the M1 pro has 8 performance and 2 efficiency cores. M2 pro on the other hand has 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. There are some apps like Logic Pro that can only use the performance cores, so guess which one will be better there? Not to mention that you can get it for cheaper and it will perform better!
I just received my M1 Pro max 16 refurbished with a bump in specs with the money I saved. I’m a long time user and expect to run this Mac for at least 5 years so the micro improvements don’t play into my decision making. Thanks for the confirmation to buy backwards.
I used the macbook pro 14 with m1 pro base chip in my agency for months. Really incredible. But with the m2 pro 14 base (10-core 512 GB SSD) I've been working with for a couple of weeks, it's even more amazing!. Faster rendering and export of videos 4k/6k and photos. Faster in everything I have to do. And the fans almost always silent! Now that it's at lower prices, in my opinion it's better to focus on the m2 pro. You will not regret!
I agree with you man. Everyone who makes money with his laptop and has the budget for it, can easily take the m2 max 16 inches and save more working time . But everyone else who needs a good laptop for the next 4-5 years should get the M1 Pro base model 14 inches or 16 inches and don’t go after the flashing Apple advertising . Do you know that the base model m2 pro 14 inches costs 2400 € in Germany And the base m2 Pro 16 Inches costs 2999 € So the price jump is just to much for the improvements that you get .. Thanks
Totally agree. However, 4 months after this video, honestly, I don't know if in mid-2023 I would recommend buying a macbook pro with the m1 pro chip released a year and a half ago, even if they are perfectly identical. We're talking about people who want to upgrade from an Intel Mac or maybe a base macbook air m1. If I already have a macbook pro 14 with m1 pro chip, there is no doubt about switching to the equivalent with the new chip... It does not make sense! In any case, 3d render and video editing performance has improved even in the base model (with 512GB slower SSD) and this is demonstrated by the export tests of the Zone of Tech channel (from 1.3 to 1.5 times faster). Connectivity, battery... few things, but now they can be found with a "new m2pro - used m1pro" difference of around €250-300. If I had to spend that much money, I would spend it on something new, rather than one that will be 3 years old in 2024.

Good comparison 👍 Definitely for those who gonna be MacBooks owners for the first time….M1 Pro is better choice. But I wonder why Apple hid all brand new M1s right after the M2 was released and now only have refurbished units available. For instance , I want to buy a brand new M1 instead of a used M1…..I don't believe that with the release of the M2, all the brand new M1s suddenly ran out from the market. Can you explain this Apple policy a little bit more clearly?
Marketing policy where the brand can burn their own products at the cost of marketing their new products. Happens everytime in the pro max lineups of iphones
Can you start benchmarking world of Warcraft? It’s about the only game people consistently play on Macs and it’s free until level 20 so you wouldn’t have to buy it
Love the "real talk" breakdown. Subscribed today based on this video alone. Thank you for providing this. Own an "OG" as you call it MB 16" M1, and see NO reason to upgrade. It does everything I would do with my photo post-processing on my desktop I9 PC just as well, and in some cases notably better. The ONLY thing that bothers me about it is just how quickly my battery health indicator drops. (Which would be a concern for me in buying a USED M1, unless factory-refurbished with a NEW battery, if that's even an option.)
Thanks a lot, it's the best comparison between M1 Vs M2 MacBook Pro 14'' that I've ever heard. Definitive I will go for the M1. Excellent Video Dayo, you have a high level of pedagogic skills, you could work as a teacher if you want.

Hey, great video! I’d like to ask you re. my specific situation - I’m an English teacher living in Italy with quite a following on Instagram, so I’m thinking about setting up my own online business. I currently use my iPad Air 2022 model for literally everything (also online teaching 2/3 times a day max) and it does great, but I don’t think it will be able to handle what I’m planning to do in the future - design a course, a lot of video editing for Instagram and UA-cam, increased number of online lessons per day, etc. Would you recommend that I go for the M2 13 inch over a refurbished 14 inch M1? I would like the 14 inch M2, but it’s nearly €3k here in Italy and I don’t have that kind of cash .
Refurbished M14. It's a bit thicker, but if you are intending to run a business, I'd feel more comfortable recommending the Pro simply for its versatilely over the Air.

Hey How to get live wallpaper on mac?
Where do you get your live wallpapers? I like your videos 👍🏽
Can you start benchmarking world of Warcraft? It’s about the only game people consistently play on Macs and it’s free until level 20 so you wouldn’t have to buy it
Where do I get those wallpapers?
Great video! How can I make a video wallpaper like you did?

Hey g I like that wallpaper on the left mac. Would it be possible for you to tell me where you got it?
Dynamic Wallpaper Engine on the macOS store. Should be #1 in utilities
Thank you so much, this actually just gave me a new video idea on battery life
Thanks a lot, it's the best comparison between M1 Vs M2 MacBook Pro 14'' that I've ever heard. Definitive I will go for the M1. Excellent Video Dayo, you have a high level of pedagogic skills, you could work as a teacher if you want.
Thanks man, I learned a new word today too. Pedagogic!
Great video
Are these base models?
These are base models
I like the design!!!PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THE DESIGN!!!I also love Touch ID. I just wish that they will improve the cooling of the chip. My Mac book 14 2021 gets a little bit warmer while using zoom, or FaceTime :(.
How come you didn’t compare the right side??
The webcam on the M2 Pro does look alot better IMO. Look at the difference in detail in your hair
It's a bit thicker, but if you are intending to run a business, I'd feel more comfortable recommending the Pro simply for its versatilely over the Air.
great Job thank you for making my decision easier, you got new subscriber
I love your sarcasm!
Can someone help me decide if It’s better to buy the m1 pro with 1tb or the m2 pro with 512gb
I mainly use it for Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Premiere Pro
I can get them for the same price, so money isn’t the problem
M2 pro for sure. If you’re trying to have it last longer
I like your reviews a lot. But what I like even more is your personality. If you increase your production value gradually in the next few years you could become the next MKBHD. Mark my words. 😊
All the best for you. Greetings from Germany.
Subscribed!
THANK U
is it true that the MacBook 2019 (16) had better sound than the new MacBook 2023 (14)?
I don't have the 2019 model on me, but rewatching my unboxing, those speakers really were something I've never heard coming from a laptop (spectacular). That being said, a 16 inch machine versus 14 inch, I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded better, but I'd be happy with both
good work. greetings from Germany
good comment. greetings from USA
Even greater video👍
