Lovely old school representation. Thank you very much for posting this!
Was lucky enough to be a pupil of john d. A fantastic piper and teacher. One of the finest men I ever met. Looked after me. Miss him
Great.
I was also a student of John D Burgess along with Iain Macfadyen. What Wonder men they are.
I was a student of Capt. Bruce Heinline USAF Crow Creek Pipes and Drums Alaska. I quit piping after high-school but play them again nearly 20 years later. I'm always breaking my bagpipes: 1 set of James Anderson shuttle pipes, 2 sets of j.w. shuttle pipes, 1 ceilidh smallpipes, 1 twist trap bagpipe. All tragic ends. After putting my last set in the port-a-potty, I don't trust myself to own anything nice. If I won the lottery I could really see myself lighting the winnings afire and dump the lot over into the Grand Canyon. My apologies...
A favourite piper and a favourite piobaireachd beautifully played and placed. 👍❤️🎶
Thank you Sir Wallner for this great upload! So deep, humble and noble feelings arises here all together in a timeless dimension! True music and graet heritage! Merçi beaucoup!
One of my favorite piper ever!
beautifully meditative....he is one with his surrounding ....really fascinating
Nice video Karl the video & audio quality is excellent for being so old .
Favorite piobaireachd!
The great John. D. How did he get vibrato on his chanter? Unique.
Past his prime in this video for certain, but a true legend all the same, and taken from us too early. My late teacher greatly admired John Burgess, and played alongside him in the Edinburgh Police Pipe Band.
This was recorded in 1992/1993 and he was nearly 60 - not sure some of today’s “greats” could match him even at that age
Personally never past his prime Gold Medal winner at 16 .For many the greatest Piobaireachd tune of all time.
huh.. sounds like great piping to me
When and where was this?
Loch Maree, north of Scotland, 1994 (I think)
From memory it’s Loch Morie :)
@@margaretaburn2092 Correct...Loch Morie.
What is the story behind this pibroch? Who were "the children"?
Composed by Padraig Mor MacCrimmon in response to the death of 7 out of 8 of the piper’s sons. The children died of smallpox, allegedly brought to the island by a seafarer returning home to the island.
