Jack, first I want to say, Thank you for caring enough to put on a jacket and tie for this video!! Call me old fashion, but I think it shows total class and increases the perceived value of you and BSS. Appearance makes a huge difference in how one is perceived! About the content - great stuff. I am not terribly knowledgeable about Mark VIs, but always curious. Been playing several decades and have never played one. One of these days I will get my hands on one and probably become a believer. In the meantime, I will dream of the perfect horn. 😊
Great video on so many points! I totally agree on transcription. Had the same experience with transcribing when I was in high school where I'd write them out getting them by ear (great for my ears) and never actually practice them (not so great for my technique). It really made a difference when I learned and memorized one before actually writing it out. I can play that one to this day. I do think writing them out after is great for the ability to see the bigger picture of what a player is doing.
Has the Mark VI market dragged up the prices , values of Buescher Big B’s, TH&C’s and CONN 10m’s for example. Seems like the entire vintage market is competing price wise with new Pro horns(?). Even exceeded new in the case of Mark VI’s…..yes?
So I play classical saxophone. I freakin' love your black box reeds. Do you find many folks that play classical using them or us your clientele mostly jazz?
I don't know if this is the right place to ask questions but does the mouthpiece material make a discernable difference in the sound? Would you hear the difference if you had two mouthpieces with the same dimensions (chamber, rails, baffle, opening, etc,) but made of different materials? or is it another "psychosomatic tendency"? Thank you!
An icon! Thanks for this Jack, what a cool way to reach out to your fan base.
Thank YOU!! More to come ;)
