- Excell Auto Group and Fineworks Automotive recently took on the challenge of installing a K40 RL 360i radar/laser system into a Porsche 918 Spyder which is not an easy task on a million plus dollar hybrid hypercar. The carbon fiber front and rear bumpers had to be meticulously disassembled, headlamp assemblys removed, carbon fiber undertrays and even pedal assembly in order to make this K40 installtion as seamless and factory looking as possible. Excell Auto Group and Fineworks Automotive were not daunted by this request and executed it to perfection. Contact Excell Auto Group for all your luxury and exotic automotive needs, and a big thank you to NueVue photography for capturing a possible world first!

If I owned a 918 Porsche, there's no way on earth, or anywhere else for that matter, that I'd allow anyone other than a certified Porsche mechanic to touch this car. Absolutely terrifying. And as K40 is not been proven all that effective against LIDAR, this would end of being a incredible waste of time and patience. If so anyone other than the certified mechanic touched this car of mine, I'd probably drop dead from fear and shock.
Barry Taff True dat !!! shit is scary
Barry Taff When you buy a 918 Spyder, you can choose to not do the K40 install and go with a cheap alternative. No irreversible changes were made to the car. Heres a link v LIDAR for reference lol www.dailymotion.com/video/x85fni_k40-defuser-vs-stlaker-lidar-gun_news
aj45 Yes, I am well aware of that, and I totally agree with what you're saying here. It was just very unnerving watching those guys partially dismantle the car, that's all. I'm also aware of superior anti-LIDAR tech that really works.
Barry Taff the techs ARE certified not just with Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari... and so on. They are the ones who the dealers send these cars to have this type of work done.
Just because you own a supercar, exotic or a toyota... doesn't mean the dealers will do all the work in house.
Its not terrifying at all when you have all of the tools and knowledge, shops like this need to buy the same tools and scanners that the dealers have and can do the same training. how do I know this? I've been in this industry for 15 years. :)
Nue Vue Very happy to hear that you guys really know what you're doing and how to do it. Thank you for clarifying this matter.
That car will never be the same again.
This is what real car guys do to thier already perfect rides!
I'm very impress with the work from the guys at E.A.G.!!!
I'm glad you are actually intend to use the car, man! Thanx for doing this to my dream car! :)
Beautiful shots. That carbon fiber looks so sick.
thanks
If that was my porsche, i would cry watching them work. hahahahahah
It'll never be the same.
Dope!!!
I had every Escort radar detector from 1979-1995 and gave up on them. With all of the false alarms they became more of an annoyance than they were worth. Speed smartly. :-)
Nice Porsche!! /envious
"purpose of this installation"
...Some people who own cars like this like to drive fast lol
Systems like this give them a chance to reduce their speed in time so they do not get a expensive speeding ticket. ;)
Nue Vue Because when you own a million dollar car, a $200 speeding ticket is a big deal...
Phyde4ux No it's not, but losing your license is.
PrezDub That's what lawyers are for. Just don't let them add up, otherwise the judge/prosecutor won't be as willing to "deal."
Phyde4ux And the amount of time you waste dealing with it ...
Phyde4ux you could possibly loose your car. especially doing 212 in a porsche
Nice Video
F..in MASTERPIECE of a car!
Wow lol nice!
Demais!!!!
Great clean install. However, I prefer the Escort 9500ci + Quad Laser Interceptors for jamming lasers. I rock that setup on my M5 and have yet to get a ticket or end up in jail!
+Mothegamer Rock it, Rocket. ;)
El deportivo de mis sueños!!!
None of these guys will ever take apart my car like this.
How do these guys know how to take apart this car?
These guys are very experienced with supercars, they do a walk-through to find out the best way of executing the installation properly first.
Nathan Osbourne they call porsche to figure it out and probally sent a electronic diagram to take the car apart properly.
Wonder how nervous and excited these guys were...good for the business portfolio though.
Nice matching painters tape
Yea lol
I've been on that road so many times and I've never seen any exotic cars riding around
Top video!
Thank you very much
$5k plus for the install is nothing if you can afford a 918 spider! Heck the full body clear bra on this beauty is probably $20k plus!!!
What is the purpose of this installation exactly?
Look at the top 10 of nurburgringlaptimes website..... nuff said xD
Porsche is king.
Impressive install- can someone please tell me what a K40 is?
It's a system that deflects lasers, from radar guns or something else, it's used to prevent police from detecting them going really fast.
radar/laser? for what?
Song?
but what do you do in the car
What shop?
If you listen carefully you can hear the face palms of the Porsche engineers
There was this k40 installation package, or the clip it on the visor and plug it into the cigarette lighter package.
+Conrad Serrano yeah those are the portable kits a lot cheaper than this one.
K40..., 😂... Proof that money does not increase intelligence 😂😂😂😂😂
cassinovashalo Agree
What's the soundtrack used in the beginning of the video
whatever the song through the video is annoying as fuck!
I just don't think I could have done it. I'll bet the owner is going to experience rattles, squeaks, and whistling sounds that are gonna piss him off so damn badly, after undoing so much of what was factory done. I would have talked to Porsche. I know of several car makes that come complete with radar from the factory. Will they not install the radar system of your choice on a special order like a 918?! Just a thought.
whats the intro song??????
new law: own an ultra car vehicle? drive as fast as you want buddy
In Spain those type of detectors are illegal :(
shineclot With so much instant-on laser in use they've become worthless IMO. Hell, it was bad enough when they had instant-on X and K bands, where you might have a prayer at slowing down before they get a lock on you. With laser, it's pretty much an immediate bust.
ian konrad
No, I don't know that. I would presume radar jamming is illegal.
In America if you have money...it's all legal...even Barely Legal...lol.
from what i observed, only one guy doing real work and 4-5 others were just standing around. wouldn't trust my investment with these guys.
Music?
Someone please explain to me what this system is all about?
It deflects detection from radar guns, etc so the police doesn't see you going over the speed limit.
someone knows what type of tape is the one that they are using?
+Luis torres it's just green painters tape
Ok, thanks!
Whats the song ??
Hang_Ups_(Want_You) its a youtube song
where in florida is this?
Boca or Ft. Lauderdale area.
Ducati Drew Yeah its definitely south florida.
Paul walker thought it was cool to to go 180 mph on a public road
They most definitely weren't doing 180 miles an hour
How fast?
Sad
Pimp!!!
Why??? I would've just take it to a track.
A useless when a lot but not all of the troopers on the interstate use Vascar radar which makes a radar detector useless
I predict north of $5k for installation?
Unfortunately I can't disclose the cost, but yes it's a pretty expensive process. :)
$5K? I bet it's much more than that.....
F4STizBACK Not too much more :)
More than $12,500. System alone is $3k to $5k.
Except that the K40 doesn't really work that well compared to its competition. There are several cheaper alternatives that would do a far better job than the K40, especially against LIDAR.
I thought K40 was outdated.
What is k40?
Radar detection and jammers
I will never let anybody touch my car over even $200k
Exactly what I was thinking, only the dealership.
***** the dealership might not be as good as u think it is
***** but if the dealership messes up the car they have to fix it. Anybody else touches it and the warranty's voided.
Goodbye Porsche warranty
nice but this k40 i think this can only use int he usa but in Germany nope ^^
Not in every state though, some states you can get a fine just for having them.
Don't bring this setup to Virginia, cops will push your shit in...
Ah, if you got the money for a car like this, you can afford the speeding tickets!!!... Or to go to a track and drive your car fast there.
So, what the hell do they install in the car? In my opinion a Porsche 918 needs no alterations, they are perfect, came out of the factory in absolute perfection, they need that instalion as much as a men need a 3 niple.
Radar Detector, for speeding
Rather have a vette!
only if its a ZR1
All this for a radar detector?! What does this radar detector do that it needs all this work and that the one stuck on the dash won't do?!
+Saif A This is fully integrated and has laser jamming capability.
it detects ignorants like you.
***** to be honest, I don't even care what you think mate. First, one does not simply ask what a radar detector do because that's just plain stupid. Secondly, haven't you read the video description? They want the car to be factory looking as possible.
Norm I didn't JUST ask what a radar detector does. I asked "what does it do THAT it needs all this work"............I have a radar detector attached to my windshield. I wanted to know what this does to justify tearing apart a million dollar car.
I don't get it, you buy a $1 million car and you put a K40 in it? So many better options out there -- way, way better.
The people who are saying why get a Radar just because somebody has money are damn fool's. Here in Toronto for over 50 the speed limit it's called stunt driving you can lose your license and get your car impounded regardless how much money you have and 100 over the posted speed limit they can crush your car if they wanted to. All this can be avoided by a simple installation that could save you time and money , why would you wanna waste time in court and pay heavy fines? Do you think it's fun to be pulled over or something, for fuck sakes
+codeblak4 Or you could avoid it by not going 50-100 over the speed limit..
+tmasse11 that's what your Priuses are for my friend
Tyler Cooper Yeah well if you crash 100 mph above a speed limit, being in a 918 spyder or a prius wouldn't make a difference, because you will be a vegetable or dead lol.
+tmasse11 lol first off I'd love to see a Prius go 165+ or whatever that translates into km/h, but I think you're missing the point, the person who bought the car is going to actually use it, let the car stretch its legs. Whoever it is enjoys going fast and having that adrenalin rush and would like to keep the car for a while lol. And now they probably will
Yeah, an adrenaline rush that you could easily get on the track, where you can really push this vehicle to its limits. The fact of the matter is, no matter what vehicle you have, going 135+mph on an open road is not smart at all. Sure you may be able to do it once or twice, but it only takes one time for you to screw up. Public roads are a completely different environment than being on a track. I understand people want to test out the vehicle's performance, and even I speed in my sports car to about 120 on the highway at times. But anything higher is just asking for it. So getting the radar system specifically to gain the ability to go at insane speeds will put your life in danger as well as the traffic.
if it's not broken don't mess it up. you'll destroy a million dollar car. you'll ended up trading that car anyway.
immediate i think why would someone who can purchase a $1,000,000 car care about speeding tickets?
mainlymusicman its not about the price of the ticket, its the points.
+mainlymusicman Some states impound cars for excessive speeding and reckless driving
Is an american speeding ticket so expensive that they keep people that can afford a 918 spyder from sleeping at night? here in europe tickets will rarely exceed 4/500 euro and it "used" to be impossible to get tickets from abroad. Nice commercial though ;)
t. overijssel well you could easily get it impounded if your going fast and have warrants or w/e. but the fee of something like that including speed could be 800 right off the bat owning a porsche. chump change to most but not to me!
I rather get a ticket
Too bad they spent that much money on the car and ended up installing a K40. Much better RD/jammers on the market.
Take a look here: www.raletc.com/2014/09/2014-raletc-lidar-shootout-live/
James Huegli what did they do to this car and for what purpose?
The funny thing is that it's just a quite conventional car with a V8 and a moderate electric motor that's priced at a cool million. It's not light weight, it's not aerodynamic, it just looks pretty good and you all buy it hook line and sinker..
Look past the superficial illusions. Look at the weight, the engine size and power and the electric motor spec and battery size and do a little napkin math on what that would cost in a kit car. Hint: it's less than a million and a lot of garage freaks could put it together.
Emperor's new clothes.
Dan Frederiksen This guy seems to think the 918 people who can buy this car would care about cost... or kit cars... lol
***** don't underestimate me. they might well prefer that the car is expensive. but they will care when a cheap kitcar whoops their overpriced asses on the track and the drag strip. they like the price as long as the illusion is not burst. and it easily can be
Dan Frederiksen Yeah, what cheap kit car whoops the 918 on the sub 7 minute Nurburgring lap time? Someone is definitely delusional here, and it's not the 918 owners.
***** Well let's just keep it simple. Say a first gen lotus elise (or equiv light kitcar) with a Tesla Model S P85 rear axle and around 25kWh A123 battery.
Ideally the body should have better aero for the fast parts but it has a decent chance as is. Might need to add a little more battery.
Dan Frederiksen So you know this simple car does a faster lap around the ring? Because something like that beating a 918 should be a huge sensation and be all over the motojournals. Where have you seen, heard or read that such a car did a sub 7 minute lap around the ring?
This is sacrilege! A flagship car of this calibre should never be tinkered about like this, and for what? The rich owner would be far better off investing in learning awareness, smart and safe driving techniques instead of being a lazy outlaw looking for ways to fool the Police.
You ruins it...
dumm
Clueless. You can't get close to the cars ability on the road so why bother.
+gweflj it's for when the diarrhea strike and you're 15miles from home.
i would rather drive a Lamborghini aventador Roadster before this crap. i absolutely hate porsches. i think they are ugly and slow. and i think they should not be in the same class as the greats like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti and Koenigsegg. Porsche is more in the same class as Aston Martin, Mclaren, Maserati, and Lotus. which is at the low end of exotic super cars.
Loïc Martel lol why would you say that?
tee duke You couldn t have more effectively shown that you no nothing about cars.
mrNks97 how so? i know i am right in what i said. and i think you do too.
Well whilst u can say that a porsche is ugly (that s a matter of taste) you can t say that it s slow. This porsche is quicker than any lambo out there that isn t overly tuned and it also shows a possible future of sports cars.
mrNks97 not the Lambo Aventador Roadster? the thing is i really don't care about speed. i don't know why i said anything about speed. but i do care about looks and this Porsche ( and all the others ) is ugly. the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, 458 Italia & spider, Lambo aventador roadster + Huracan are so much prettier then this ugly million dollar bullshit lol. i would even take a Aston Martin Rapide over this.
