They style of playing they use throughout gives a percussion sound from the strings. It's similar to using an acoustic to keep timing if you don't have drums
I can also 'hear' the lyrics, where their brilliant finger-picking techniques echo the intonation of Mark's voice and reflect his timbre and accent; outstanding!
Actually, that wonderful fill-in the rest of the song effect appears to be working with only 3 guitars. From about 3:00 onward, it appears and sounds like 4 guitars minus 1. The mic for the guy on the far right (audience viewpoint, far left on-stage setup) with the red jacket and red-finish guitar seems to have dropped out. His solo is barely audible, being picked up only by his fellow musicians' mics. Yes?
But Knopler doesn’t mind If they don’t Make the scene.... He got a night time job He’s doing all right.... Doing better than them with just one guitar and a voice.
OKAY! I started playing guitar in 1964 at eight years old. I thought by now, I had seen, or heard, or any combination of the two, when it comes to excellent guitar work, of every style, then I FOUND THIS!! Four guys, four different styles, four different guitar makers, and four TOP LEVEL TALENTS, combined into one...PERFECTION!! They chemistry between them, the smiles and nod's for each one's turn, the attention they pay to the other one playing, there is NO leader here, all equal in their ability. Most of all, you can tell that they REALLY ENJOY what they are doing! I can't help but SMILE through the entire performance.... over and over again! BRAVO 40 FINGERS!! I am SO GLAD I found you!!

When it came out in 1978, we were blown away. Especially the beautiful and complex guitar playing . And the song still sends goose bumps down my arms, so many years later.
I love classic rock I happen to be 20 and I've only known the song and band for like 6 years, but when i heard sultans of swing for the first time it sold me, and dire straits instantly became my favorite band ever, I started listening to all their songs & buying their CDs, and I can thank Mark knopfler for getting me hooked on playing flamenco style guitar for the past 5 years, still learning new things of course, but when i heard that this song was released as a demo in the UK in 1977 and released officially in the US in 1978. I was mainly mind blown by the clarity of the mix, all the guitars sounded so clean and bright, (which literally made me buy a strat) and the band was so tight with how they played in perfect syncopation. I was surprised cause most other classic rock bands and their songs from that time didn't sound nearly that clean and articulate to me. That was something unique about the band dire straits, I noticed every song of theirs I listen to was never boring in terms of musicality. And this cover of this band in my opinion is a beautiful tribute. I never get tired of these guys
The song was such a masterpiece in my opinion that it was way ahead of its time. Of course Mark Knopfler is a genius for using finger style guitar playing on electric guitars, in my opinion they sound cooler. More articulate, more punchy, more smooth tone as opposed to using a hard pick.

It’s amazing that 4 dudes who can play this well can play together! Gunslingers are not known to travel in packs after all. Great cover of a great song!
So true! My first thought at the end of the song was 'wow, what a patient audience it is to only start applauding when all 24 strings rang out...' My heart got torn apart due to the absence of applause 😞
I was thinking the same thing. All through the video I kept looking for an audience in the wide shots. Must have been a strange feeling to play in front of so many empty seats. Hopefully, with the world slowly opening up that will change.
You should watch the professor of rocks interview and video on that song! Mark Knopfler wrote it When he was a young musician hanging out in a dive bar in London town and there was a lowly jazz band playing Who called themselves the sultans of swing!! And The story of money for nothing is hilarious because Mark Knopfler was shopping for a TV and a tech store and basically just wrote down verbatim what two gentlemen were having a conversation about as they watched MTV play on the multiple TVs that were displayed! That’s why The unedited version has a bunch of Seemingly offensive language, because it was just a Verbatim transcribe of a conversation Between two regular people!
I’m not able to relate to the negative comments. This reimagining is the opposite of soulless. The love and respect for the original is joyfully obvious. Timeless melodies should be replayed and reinvented over and over again forever. If I were Mark Knoepfler this video would make me smile pretty big.
They also play with 20 fingers and four picks. And so fast you would think they have to catch a train after they are done and are already running late 😬

Amazing rendition… a completely different perspective. Loved it.
Thumbs down people are just jealous. It takes talent dedication and practice. Great job guys.
HOLY GOD! That was incredible! WOW!!!!
You guys are AMAZING! Dire Straits holds a special place in my heart. I think Mark Knopfler is so tasteful. This is really special for me to find. Thank you!
It’s amazing that 4 dudes who can play this well can play together! Gunslingers are not known to travel in packs after all. Great cover of a great song!
AMAZING technique and so beautiful !!! You' re fabulous.
Just makes me smile. That's what a great musical performance does. So sad that there isn't an audience applauding at the end. But I was.
So true! My first thought at the end of the song was 'wow, what a patient audience it is to only start applauding when all 24 strings rang out...'
My heart got torn apart due to the absence of applause 😞
I was thinking the same thing. All through the video I kept looking for an audience in the wide shots. Must have been a strange feeling to play in front of so many empty seats. Hopefully, with the world slowly opening up that will change.
You guys are incredible!!! The world needs to hear you guys!!! Never stop! Much love! ❤
Man that was an amazing performance, Mark would be proud.
Good job on one of my favorite tunes!
Thanks!
You guys are not from this era AMAZING.
Fabulous version, well done chaps, amazing ending
Every guitar player loves the Sultans of Swing, and I have played it for decades and it’s still one of my All Time Favorites 😜🤷🏻♂️👏👏👏👏🤩
My grandson, 22, does a pretty good job of it.
@@blondbowler8776 Wholesome.
That is probably the best cover I’ve ever heard. Amazing
I've watched DS play this hundreds of times - GREAT COVER!
Absolut Weltklasse Gitarristen.
Vielen Dank für diesen musikalischen Vortrag.
Arte pura para quem ama Dire Straits !!
Absolutely amazing, guys!
Here's the thing... your music is amazing, yes, but watching you guys is so uplifting because you really seem to enjoy yourselves!
Totally agree.
Most reserved audience I ever seen!! Also, props to the camera and lighting operators.
Classic rock and roll with 40 Fingers is a jamming tune! You “knocked it out of the park”!!✌️🥰🥰
That song always put me in a good mood and make me remember great things about great days. It was perfect.
Some mighty fine guitar sounds coming out there gentlemen. 👏👏👏👏
Magnificent! Loved it!🙌🙌🙌🙌
indeed! instruments have feeling but how to gather them together as one. you guys have shown it is possible. masterpiece!
Harry doesn't mind, if he doesn't...make the scene. He's got a day time job, he's doing alright!
Sure he is
Whay not!
He can play the honky tonk like anything
Saving it up for Friday night
A lot of good flashing lights and moving camera angles.
I’m not able to relate to the negative comments.
This reimagining is the opposite of soulless. The love and respect for the original is joyfully obvious.
Timeless melodies should be replayed and reinvented over and over again forever.
If I were Mark Knoepfler this video would make me smile pretty big.
They are not trying to be Dire Straits just a version of the song it is very nice I agree
I completely agree with you
and imagine how Mark can generate the sound all on his own 🎉❤
Well done! It's not just a simple imitation.
Human metronomes. No in-ears. Yall know how hard it is to make 4 acoustic guitars sound this good? That was phenomenal.
Mark achieves the same with ten fingers
BETTER!!👍👍👍
lucas imbieri does the whole band with 10 fingers 😂
How was the meat factory today?"
"Great! I even already have my own nickname-- 'Ten Fingers'! The OLD Ten Fingers wasn't using it anymore!"
Mark, he's one of a kind
They also play with 20 fingers and four picks. And so fast you would think they have to catch a train after they are done and are already running late 😬
More coordination right there than most people can appreciate. Well done!
You guys deserve more attention. This was so incredible !
