YT Jeffsy Review - 2020 Bible of Bike Tests
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- The most mild-mannered little-wheeled bike at this year’s Bible, the YT Jeffsy combines versatility, flickability and, for good measure, affordability. It’s everything a 27.5 trail bike should be. Find the full review and much, much more at BikeMag.com.
Love my 2019 Jeffsy CF Pro 29er. Yes the E13 dropper stopped working after 3 rides. And it has a lot play already after a year. I’ll be switching out to a fox transfer once I come across a good deal. E13 support has been excellent though. The faulty dropper was replaced immediately and after I broke a spoke a few weeks back they sent a whole set over including nipples.
I put on Bontrager XR4 front and XR3 rear which have been excellent.
It’s a really playful bike, very competent in climbing and solid as a rock descending. Next nearest alternative was 25% more expensive. I was considering a Specialized Stumpjumper or Trek Fuel Ex. Haven’t regretted this one for a second.
Totally agree. My next bike of choice was the Ripmo, but I would have had to pay $1000 more for a similar spec. Even if they were similarly priced, I still would have gone with the YT for how it looks. If I'm going to pay thousanda on a bike at least make it look good.
The LTDs came with the fox transfer dropper and there's a fair amount of reported failures on that as well, more than what seems to be normal I think.
So amusing to hear reviewers all of a sudden remembering that 27.5s are awesome after all the “gee it would be so much better if it were a 29er” bs we heard for the last 2-3 years. I bought a Bronson V3 for all the exact reasons you all mentioned- cause 150/160 travel 27.5 bikes with relatively slack HTAs feel like a grown-up’s bmx allrounder. Aggressive trail riding, bike parks, skate parks and just general goofing around and having fun- and don’t think that doesn’t mean going fast- bc they still bomb the gnarliest downs too. More rider input- yes please. Especially for people who grew up bmxing, or freestyling, or riding mountain bikes at a young age, this type of bike can be so much more rewarding and fit your riding style so well. And ironic what you said about more sag, cause I ride my Bronson way lower psi and with more sag than recommended and love it. Long live those of us who don’t wear heart rate monitors or give a rat’s ass about KOMs up.
Order my 2020 jeffsy comp and the still have to wait a few months to get it but have recently been contemplating on canceling my order for the ibis ripmo af with coil. Hearing the reviewers talk about the bmx like playfulness and having a bmx background makes me want to suck it up and wait for the YT
@@savageferria505 You wouldn't be disappointed if you went for the Ripmo
Y is this the 2019 jeffsy
the reality is, bike shops aren't actually good to deal with. 1 in 20 bike shops aren't shit. even then, any warranty claim takes FOR EVER assuming they will warrant it at all instead of blaming you for everything under the sun. buying from a bike shop is not actually that good.
All the bearings serviceable from the same side of the bike, classic German engineering, I like it!
Nice review and sharp look'n bike. Looks like this bike has good kinematics if it can run more sag and yet still not bottom out. Not surprising this bike bobs when standing, it is a Horst Link bike after all. I prefer 27.5 bikes for the fun factor, and I would seriously consider this bike due to price if I did not already own a Bronson V3.
ANY 150mm MTB on up, is going to bob when you pedal out of the saddle.
Not a DW LINK
Very similar to my 27.5 Stumpy Expert... little more reach... little more upright, but the rest of the numbers are near identical. Always makes me smile when riders say "I had so much fun... I could ride this all day... " in an industry that insists on 29ers. Fun.. playful.. control.. is where it's at.
With regards to the Bike Shop vs Direct Sales thing, it really depends on the bike shop you are buying from. Some might be gems but others can be very poor in their service department leaving you thinking it is safer to tool the bike yourself. Sure if there is a warranty issue, the bike shop[ will respond quicker but, at the end of the day, when riding - the service of your bike stops with you, the rider and it is best to learn how to look after your ride.
Piers B. , you assume the average biker is competent. At least half of all people are really incompetent and not capable of putting together a bike for that last 10% on a bike that comes shipped to them 90% assembled. They need a bike shop to whine to and to fix for them every little thing that goes wrong. They are not capable of watching tutorials on Youutube to learn how to work on bikes. YT, Canyon, and Commencal are NOT made for these people!
I'd be curious to hear a comparison of the 27.5 vs 29er of this bike.
Pete Fairhurst I’ve ridden both and went with the 27.5 pro race and love it but can’t go wrong with either bike
Deets 29MTB Thanks! I'm currently on a 27.5 Ibis HD3 and I need to try some of these 29ers to see what this craze is all about.
I ride a 29er xc and I totally understand the benefits there but for playing with gravity 27.5 is definitely where it's at. I think the 29er enduro/DH craze is race focused not for having fun.
Just road a demo Pro model, for 160/140 travel bike it pedaled up hill incredibly well. On the bobbing side, my shock and fork were set up proper so no issues there other than slight bon in front, but hell its a 160. Laying it down in tight corners felt real quick, longer open burms okay...29er always smoother. Next Test Canyon Spectral
Hopefully in 2020 YT sell their bikes with frame only option,..
Decent set of Maxxis tires came on my Canyon Neuron AL 7.0 ($2500) as well as Fox suspension. Took me 45 minutes to build it, swap stem and bars then convert to tubeless. If you have half a brain mechanically speaking, consumer direct is a great deal. Neuron is a great all day bike. Climbs well, nice out of the saddle power transfer and floats well over moderate single track but nowhere near as poppy as my previous generation Tallboy.
I hope you guys review the YT IZZO
I just bought a Surly Ice Cream Truck and had it set up tubeless, huge difference. The Surly tires are tubeless ready. I did a review of it on my channel as well.
Thanks for doing these videos
The only thing im missing on the frame is the posibility to put angle set in the head tube, that would make the bike more future proof and more customizable for the end user. I would love it to have 160mm fork with 65 HA for example, which it almost have, but not quite. :)
Get some offset bushings. Would also lower the BB (looks like 344mm in low). One bushing might fit the bill very nicely actually, 8mm would slacken .5 degree and lower 5mm.
Nukeproof reactor please 🍻
This isnt even the 2020 model wtf
Ben Janske you’re making me swear in my mind when you don’t spell out WTF.
It has to be the 2019 was only 140mm rear
2020 not available until 10-2020
Rai Flores really? October?😪
Dies&Das not until January 10th, 2020
Guerrilla gravity sent out my trail pistol tubeless. Also a very responisve team.
My Trail Pistol was also set up tubeless as well.
Doesn’t really make sense to send out bikes set up tubeless, bikes shouldn’t be left sitting with sealant in them
@@Gabeis36 They don't really sit. They build the bikes up and ship them out.
Takes all of 15 minutes and in the process you’ll get two spare tubes. You’re also given the choice to run some puncture protection without breaking the bead and making a giant mess. Just for those reasons I’d be a little bummed to get a bike shipped to me with sealant in the tires.
Did she really get offended that they size the bike small to xxl rather than XS - large? Lol
She didn't seem to care as much as Man Bun. He seemed pretty outraged for her.
it's really XXL, not KL. I am 6'5 (1,96m) and I if I was like one inch smaller, my bike (Jeffsy 29 in XXL) would be too big for me. The bike comes with a 170mm dropper post and I pull the post 1 cm out of the frame (like 3/8 of an inch). If you are two or three cm smaller than me, you can't get the dropper post extended, even at it's lowest setting. Germans are tall people, XXL is really bigger than XL. The Ibis Ripmo XL and the JYT Jeffsy XL have very similar dimensions. XXL is one step up from there
Stefan Schmitz Love that they offer an xxl size. At 6’7 with 37” inseam I’m excited to find a bike that could fit me better. Now just have to wait till October.
YT has so many variants of this bike and they would all need to get its own review to know what each goes for! Take the top model that has ten millimeters longer travel front and back for instance, also with a burlier was 36 fork. And then take the 29er of that. It surely is a different bike.
Niklas Du Rietz I have the race and it pedals great!!! With 35% sag and the bike can do anything on descents
Deets I have the 29 race and it sure is capable! What I’m looking for is a comparison to all these others from BikeMags perspective.
Great video. What SAG you liked the most?
how is the linkage on this bike
HD5 GX build is $5499 vs $4000 for the 27 CF Pro. 27% seems like a worthy difference.
simple and very attractive design
In regards to the e13 tires I had the exact same problem when I got jeffsy. Converted it to tubeless right out of the box and noticed all the sealant coming out of the side walls. Air seamed to be holding so I went for a ride. Later on that night the tires were completely flat...Ended up purchasing new tires day one of owning the bike which is pretty frustrating.
Jason Hipolito funny mine held air fine
With stans notubes sealant no problem..
A friend says to run tubes for a few days, and then pull them out. By then the tires are shaped. Might work?
Yeah when running tubeless tyres you will notice small sealant leaks as well as loss of air, run the tyres for 2-3 days and pump them back up a few times and they will be fine, i had the same problem when doing both my bikes, after a few days of running the tyres and inflating them the tyres where fine 👍
Why to release a review at the end of the year?
I guess YT is not gonna bring the market a new Capra on 2020
The jeffsy 27.5 is great but you have to increase the front and rear shock to 160/160
I took it to Morzine it is great .
It is also very doable bike for any jump !
They do, it's the Jeffsy cf pro race
Ricardo Juarez MTB
The one on the review is not the pro race.
The pro race jeffsy is from the beginning of 2019..
@@bennyhop9162 well yeah I can tell by the color. I have the pro race and man it's a hell of a bike. No need for the capra at all. But a Tues is looking good for the future for those park days, but even at that the jeffsy pro race handles great in parks.
Ricardo Juarez MTB
Yea I got the the pro and increased it to 160 mm
Took it too bike park it was a blast!
But to the steep black ones I think I would have somethin Capra or Patrol🧐
Never rode a DH ☝🏻
Is it possible to swap the rear from 150 to 160 on the non pro-race frames? I wasn’t sure if they tweaked the frame at all to accommodate. I will upgrade my 19’ jeffsy cf comp to 160 front eventually, the stock elite performance fox shock (150) is super nice though.
Thanks for video.. I'm trying to decide a bike too and this is a top choice
Did you buy yet?
@@ηοτιη bought a transition scout
@@brandonpaul06 Oh, good choice. How much did it cost?
@@ηοτιη got it for a gooood deal. 2300
Is the 26 inch bike good
Like I said on the other tests. Why no Guerilla Gravity bikes in the test. BM really dropped the ball. One frame, four or so different bikes. Made in The USA, and a brand new carbon process.
Too heavy.
@@gweflj Agreed ..especially given the travel.
overall great review. One quibble, I just bought a Fezzari and it's coming to me consumer direct with tubeless setup for me. out of the box it will already be frame wrapped as well... So while YT may not provide a bike fully set up that's not necessarily true for every company.

can you do a 2020 model review
I really have a crush on this chick. Glad they put her in the middle on this one.
I definitely have to agree with you she is super cute
Sexist pigs.
@@gweflj Cmon now admit it.. You like her too!
@@gweflj Ha! You like Justin's Bohner.....Don't lie....
I get support of a good shop but you also have to consider that they are there to make money too and not every shop is good. I have purchased from shops that have great service and some that seemed like they would be good but ended up being very deceiving. Would quote me certain prices and charge me more then just lie to my face and state they never said what had been discussed previously. Become self sufficient when it comes to service. Invest in some tools and learn to work on your bike. Then by from companies that have good warranty support and you are set.
I didn't know that Matthew Modine is an MTB fanatic, and he is also an MTB reviewer here ???....:))
The 2020 27.5 is 👌
What an ignorant comment about XS it doesn’t make a bit of difference
"Just like Jeffsy and I"
Where’s the Kona?
We missed it as much as you do! We couldn't get a production model in time for start of testing. We've got Palmer on a long-term review, of it.
Yeah the new 134 looks sweet!!!
@@Bikemagazine Did Travis move to a different review format? Where do I find his reviews now?
Wait how do you already have the 2020?! There is no way lily tues in coming in March wtf
Dying breed lmao !! Yeah ok
My thoughts exactly. I love 27.5, it's a lot more fun than a 29er. Noticed most of the editors are 29er fans but that doesn't mean 27.5 is dead
@@307mtb I went 27.5 on my build of an Evil The Offering and love it. More playful and jumping is just that much fun. If I was racing I may look at the 29er, but I'm concerned more with having fun than setting records on the downs.
@@Peanutdenver friends of mine bought new 29ers. another friend of mine has a 26 and he's faster than all of us
@@sultanabran1 Totally understand that...rider is 90% of speed and skill.
im never EVER going to ride a 29. nowhere near as fun .
Don’t think this is a 2020 YT Jeffsy... looks exactly like 2019 model
There is no 2020, the 2019 came in spring, nothing changed.
Jensen the 2020 line will be released in the new year, YT follows calendar year not the normal cycling September to August schedule.
bikerfilmerboy I know, i have the 2019 Jeffsy, thank you for proving my point 😂
@@flemming_j_ the 2020 is most definitely out now.
Colter Williams i Know, the comment is 2 months old 😂😂
5:32 Giant Bicycles wants to: know your location
Santa Cruz ships you the bike tubeless. Comes with Stan's fluid ready to fill.
LCNismo So how does that work, are the tires pumped up tubeless without sealant? Do they keep air? Should deflate quite fast without sealant I would guess. Or do the tires come deflated? Or are the tires not on the bike and you have to put them on when you get the bike?
Yeah this doesn't sound exactly like tubeless out of the box.
@@BrickBike yeah it does you make it tubeless.... out of the box 😂
I had no issues with 29er eThirteen tires on my 2018 YT. They sealed right up with a shitty floor pump. They did wear out fast and were heavy, though.
nabooska sounds like you and TWO issues lol
g496r500t I guess. They were pretty bitchin when riding at the park tho
Nice man bun
Why would you not review a POLE!?
This is a weird beer ad
Just go on pinkbike and buy a used bike for a third the cost(which is what they should actually retail for)
@OutdoorDarren Then I'd be stuck with an outdated used bike..Rode hard and put away wet pb style!
This girl in video, who is discussing with guys, reminds me on Jennifer Aniston.
Yeah, this whole video is like an episode of Friends.

Why do you care so much about his hair?
Santa cruz comes out of the box tubeless. Just sayin'.
Just get an Ibis DW LINK

E13 🤦♂️. Let’s just see when the 2020 is released.
My brother's 2018 Jeffsy 29'er w e13 cassette has been miserable. That two piece cassette has required a lot of work to keep it tight and right.
John Martinez funny, that’s one of the best bits on my Jeffsy.
Less standing talking and show more actual riding. These reviews are snooze-fests.
Please beware YT Bikes Customer service. See PB Manufacturer forums
I didn’t know about old dude man bunn
Giant sells all of their bikes upwards from around 1000 bucks tubeless out of the box. Since it's the largest premium bike brand in the world, i wouldn't say that classifies as "no one"
Just out of curiosity are you saying Giant bicycles are shipped to the dealer, tires mounted with Stans inside, or are the shops setting them up tubeless before handing them over to the customer?
@@BrickBike They are shipped to the dealer with the tyres set up tubeless without sealant. There will always be two or three small 60ml bottles coming with the bike.
A good Shop would then add the sealant before turning them over to the customer.
max denger Interesting 👍 I never minded switching it over myself and pocketing the 2 spare tubes, but I guess 2 tubeless valve stems and sealant is actually the better deal.
@@BrickBike Not that that really makes a difference when the bike itself is already 2000 bucks or so. Most brands have their rims pretaped from the factory and that makes the whole process a hell of a lot quicker. Just pop one side of the tyre off the rim, pull out the tube, put in the valve and sealant, reassemble, wet the bead that isn't seated and most times you'll get it inflated with a floor pump.
Hi

I can’t handle the man bun! Dude it’s time to find a another look you seem like SNL skit where they make fun of it’s just Pat🤣
Man buns are the Millennial mullets. Same mentality.

It seems that YT is far behind it´s competitors in terms of geometry, but also in terms of quality components. E thirteen makes pretty draggy types, and their dropper post starts to wobble after only used a while. Just bad.
I agree about the dropper post however their geometry is really dialed
how?
